I had the great pleasure of spending a number of days in London this last week. My first opportunity came hand-in-hand with my very first trip to Handweaver’s Studio as well as an advanced doubleweave workshop with Jennifer Moore.
I have to say that I went to the workshop with expectations of having a really intense two days of double weave - from double-width cloth through more sculptural techniques. I was certainly not disappointed! Thirteen looms and lots of fabulous samples!
But, what I did not anticipate was the really thorough but very simplified approach to block design. I suppose given Jennifer’s background and current career path, I shouldn’t have been surprised by the technical background that was thrown into the round robin structure. It was extremely helpful for me to have block design laid out so clearly. I’m not sure I can effectively describe it here, but here’s a snapshot of the type of diagrams she provided in the explanation.
The rest is in her book, so you might just have to purchase it!
