Who are you?

Watch the official trailer for M. Night Shyamalan’s Split, a thriller that delves into the mysterious recesses of one man’s fractured, gifted mind, led by James McAvoy and The Witch’s Anya Taylor Joy, with Betty Buckley, Jessica Sula and Haley Lu Richardson.

While the mental divisions of those with dissociative identity disorder have long fascinated and eluded science, it is believed that some can also manifest unique physical attributes for each personality, a cognitive and physiological prism within a single being.

Though Kevin (McAvoy) has evidenced 23 personalities to his trusted psychiatrist, Dr. Fletcher (Buckley), there remains one still submerged who is set to materialize and dominate all the others. Compelled to abduct three teenage girls led by the willful, observant Casey (Taylor-Joy), Kevin reaches a war for survival among all of those contained within him—as well as everyone around him—as the walls between his compartments shatter apart.

i’m kind of really uncomfortable with the “it’s not that deep” meme.

it’s lived long past its prime, and always used as a way to act ~coolly distant while other people are trying to analyze something or have a nuanced conversation.

in the contexts i’ve seen it, it’s just a lazy domination technique. a tool to make others feel worse for being excited about something, or talking about it at length, while you get to sit back and feel good for ridiculing them.

it’s a good way to make with adhd or autism who have special interests feel bad for talking about them. or just anyone talking about things they really like.

if someone wants to analyze an episode of spongebob for 20 paragraphs, you can just let them. you don’t have to comment on how ridiculous it seems to you - and not everything is simple and straight-forward. it’s ok to analyze things.

i’d talk longer, but i’m already baiting people who love that meme to only comment with that, because nuanced conversations are Bad or s/t.

the hippie thinks that alienation is merely a matter of perception (“it’s all in your head”). He believes that the fetters on social life are ultimately the prevailing ideas and attitudes, that it is consciousness — abstracted from social practice — that needs to be transformed. Thus, in effect, he reinterprets reality so as to accept it by means of his interpretation. He “mellows out,” pacifies himself so as to be “in tune” with the (capitalist-dominated) environment. All negative feelings are a head problem solved by turning on the “good vibes.” Frustration and misery are attributed to “bad karma.” “Bum trips” are a consequence of not “flowing with things.” Psycho-moralizing about “ego trips” and “power trips,” he holds them responsible for the present social poverty and harbors millenarian expectations based on the abstract determination of everybody to “love one another.” Everything continues as it is factually while, by a dialectical deceit, he supplies a secret interpretation: that existing conditions will go away as soon as everyone acts as if they didn’t exist. This quasi-Christian elevation above the world exactly measures how far the hippie is beneath life and “destined” to be kept there by virtue of this interpretation. He accepts his fate in the spirit of holiness, of confident superiority (“don’t let things bring you down”). Like adolescents at a junior prom, everyone is encouraged to dance and have a good time. “Be free! Be natural!” A sneak preview of the psycho-humanist police force of the new order.

New Study Shows Reading Harry Potter Lowers Americans’ Opinions of Donald Trump

A new study to be published in a special 2016 election issue of PS: Political Science and Politics finds that reading Harry Potter books leads Americans to take a lower opinion of Donald Trump. In fact, the more books the participants read, the greater the effect.

Even when controlling for party identification, gender, education level, age, evangelical self-identification, and social dominance orientation — all factors known to predict Americans’ attitudes toward Donald Trump — the Harry Potter effect remained.

All right, fandom.  You know know what you have to do.

What happened in Turkey last night:Erdogan’s coup

Hello everybody, as a Turkish citizen I just wanted to explain the situation that took place last night in Turkey, because in social media and international news websites do not explain it all. They openly support AKP and Erdogan which is bloody irritating to me and other people who think like me. Firstly, as you know Erdogan was the head of AKP and prime minister between 2002-2015 and since 2015, he has been attempting and constantly trying to bring presidential governance in Turkey which would definitely make him even more powerful and dominant for all of Turkish citizens. So, how ‘coup’ started? Well, first a bridge was closed by military with tanks at 10:30 PM (local time), in first 30 minutes there was no announcements from either military or government itself. Then a few tanks were seen in Istanbul and Ankara, no other cities are damaged throughout 'coup’. Tanks were seen, more soldiers were seen in central locations in Istanbul and Ankara, for example in Taksim square in Turkey, and Kızılay square in Ankara. As these things happen, TSK makes an announcement in their official website , TSK stands for Turkish Military Forces. They announce that 'we seize the whole governance and power’, not a long text actually. And they also send this exact text to journalists. But, as this happened, pro-AKP journalists and other people are on TV programs, they 'deny’ the coup. Everything seems fine so far. I need to remind that there was a military coup in 1980 in Turkey, military seized control in every city in Turkey not just 2 cities, every street in the country was under control of military, not just some 2 cities, and there were tanks all over it, and before military announced the coup, prime ministers and ministers had been arrested. As TSK announced their intention, on TV programmes people denied them, supporting government even MORE and MORE, that was fucking unbelievable that it just looked like an election night, literally it was the same. After this, TSK seized TRT (Turkish Radio and Television), TRT is the only channel that is owned by the state, and TRT was seized, all programs were cut, and they said 'military gave another announcement to be read on live’, and some woman read it, it generally said that 'we are not contend with this problems, this government, and we deny this, and we seize the control, and there is a curfew’. Well, everything seems normal doesnt it? After this event, erdogan and prime minister and other minister got live on tv programmes as if it was an election night…. gosh… it was so fake. Of course over 100 ppl got killed in streets , there were bombings in Ankara, especially over parliament. But these bombings are not the main point, never. The real problem is, Erdogan and AKP planned a coup with 1000 soldiers maybe, and 10 tanks, with a few F-16 and helicopters…. You cannot seize control with a thousand soldiers, you need hundreds of thousands… today 5 prosecutors got arrested actually, and everything got in favour of Erdogan. There was a coup attemp, they blocked it, they prevailed, they defeated enemies, democracy won, Erdogan won. And in the next months , AKP will try to bring predisendial system with referandum, guess what, they will win again with a landslide, no doubt. AKP has changed Turkey since 2002, they made Turkey more islamists, more terrorist-friendly, more ISIS friendly… And I also wanted to point out that, I said there were 10 tanks, tanks were on streests, and there were pro-akp people and people protested the tank, and soldier left the tank and ran away, wtf, literally, this is what happened last night, they broadcasted live everything happened as if they knew there’d be tanks and people and all other stuff. They served us a 'coup’ and made them victorious, it was a well-played game.

Function Positions as The United States Government

Dominant Function: President.
The official head of state. Under most conditions, they are the final deciding factor over political actions, and holds signage or veto power over the senate. As the leader of the nation, they are representative of all government and the people it represents.

Auxiliary Function: Senate majority.
The dominant voice of legislation. All proposals are passed under their approval. If large enough, it can compete with and even override the president’s authority.

Tertiary Function: Senate minority.
Passage of legislation is reliant on the consent of the majority. Unfortunately, as the majority is their ideological opposite, agreement is likely out of reach. However, if they can take advantage of the political climate, they may be able to appeal to voters and gain ground in the senate chamber.

Inferior Function: Vice President.
This position is highly overshadowed by the president. Without many administrative powers, the Vice President is even deemed “the least powerful person in government”. However, they should very much be considered in elections, as they are to take office should the president suddenly be incapable of serving.
