The Dog Bite Iguana
I get a few questions every month about the iguana in this post.
So many that I am just going to make a post about it. Unfortunately this patient was lost to follow up and we never did hear back from the owners. This is actually very common in veterinary medicine but seems even more so with exotics. If the animals get better people don’t feel a need to come back or let us know, if the animal get worse they are generally upset and will go somewhere else or nowhere. Because exotic medicine is a specialty the examinations and all treatments/testing are more expensive and this can also be a deterrent.
In this case my opinion is that the owners were not happy that it was pointed out to them that the way they were “caring” for their iguana was cruel and instead of fixing their husbandry issues decided to just not come back.
