does that reference even make sense

anonymous asked:

Usually, how do you construct a face from different angles? Like 3/4, profile and front on?

Basically, I just set the position of eyes&middle of the face and then just draw the rest accordingly. Yeah… I suck at explaining so I made a gif with my usual process so you can see:

it kind of became a love triangle at the end lmao

The hairline-eyebrows, eyebrows-nose, nose-chin distances should be about equal. Ears are between eyes and nose. The rest of the head you can just draw however you want as long as it’s not too big i guess( you can check if it looks off by horizontally flipping the layer, and if it does then just transform it until it looks good from both sides lol). Personally, I like to make the edges of the head a bit more angular because I’m really bad at drawing circles haha.

More angles:

If you can’t figure out how to draw a certain angle I recommend posemaniacs or just look in the mirror (I have a mirror on my desk just for that purpose haha). The more you draw the better you’ll get so yeah go and draw your otp kissing from every single angle you can think of ‘cause that’s always fun. ヽ( ・∀・)ノ

I hope you don’t mind if I answer the ask about hair sometimes next week, cause I get the feeling it’s gonna get long

Greek Mythology Meme | Five Titans [ 4 / 5 ]

Crius: the Titan god of heavenly constellation, he was referred to as a starting season of the Greek year; along with three brothers, he was one of the pillars that separated heaven and earth; one of six Titan children of Uranus and Gaia; his consort was his half-sister Eurybia, and together they had three children; he sided with the Titans during the war with the Olympians, and was incarcerated in Tartarus by Zeus

There’s a continuity error in the FMA:B English dub.

While Ed and Al are searching for Mei, they ask around to see if people have seen Xiao Mei. They refer to her as a “weird cat.” Ed does this, Al does this, Mustang, Grumman, even Yoki. It makes sense considering most Amestrians have never seen a panda bear in their life. The closest animal Xiao Mei resembles then is a cat.

When Al first (accidentally) picks up Xiao Mei in episode 22, Ed’s reaction in the subs is:

He just calls it “that thing”, and then he and everyone else spend the rest of the series calling her a cat.

In the dub though

Ed recognizes her as a panda bear, then…seems to forget, and calls her a cat for the rest of the show.

Obviously it was just the result of a translator not realizing that, down the line, it was going to become an on-going joke that no one knows what Xiao Mei is. Easy, understandable mistake.

But in context, I like to believe it went down something like this

Al: By the way Brother, what did you call this little thing back in the car?
Ed: Huh? I called it a panda bear. Why?
Al: As in a Xingese panda bear?
Ed: …Yeah?
Al: As in those 7-foot tall creatures that live only in Xing?
Ed: What’s your point!
Al: My point is how the heck is a panda bear supposed to get all the way to Amestris from Xing?
Ed: I dunno! It has legs, doesn’t it?
Al: Yeah, tiny legs. The desert is enormous, Brother! Ling almost died crossing it! And he had supplies and body guards! So how exactly do you think a panda bear would pull that off?
Ed: Ling’s theatrical! Frankly considering that Ling could cross the desert I take that as evidence that anyone could!
Al: Okay, and what about the little detail that pandas are huge!?
Ed: And how do you know? You ever met a panda?
Al: No because I don’t live in Xing.
Ed: Fine, fine, it’s a cat! It’s a cat okay!? Whatever. Why are we fighting about this? Why do you even have that thing still?? I said get rid of it!

Post-Promised Day, in the hospital someone finally asks what type of cat Xiao Mei is. Mei blinks, and answers, “Oh, no, Xiao Mei is a panda bear.”

Four nurses come running into the room to make sure everything is alright after hearing Ed scream, “I GODDAMN KNEW IT” at the top of his lungs.

Theory: Mystery Man IS Eren

I know I’m not really the type to post Attack on Titan theories but I just can’t help myself with this one because I am 99.9999999% sure the “mystery man” we see in chapter 93 and 94 has to be EREN. The only reason why I’m not 100% sure is because I’m keeping in mind that there’s a chance Isayama might just pull a “here’s a new important character!” move, which honestly doesn’t make sense in this case for so many reasons… but you never know, right?

So with the latest chapter out, I knew that Isayama was going to bring this guy up again. Of course, I was hoping that the identity of this man would’ve been revealed already but it looks like he’s purposely keeping the identity secret to keep us readers on edge.

Now for those of you who wonder why I am so confident that this is Eren, I can first state the obvious point:

1. Appearance: Considering that there has been a three year time skip, it would be realistic to assume that Eren has grown out his hair even more by now. Aside from that, chapter 90 heavily implied that there was going to be a great change to Eren’s character. His tired eyes and lengthy hair was not only meant to be symbolic of his mental state, but also a new direction to his character.

I know quite a few people have already made these panel comparisons, but it’s important to keep in mind that in this panel above, the mysterious person is spying on Reiner (I will get into more detail about the importance of this later).

Now I know this one seems a bit of a stretch, because I’m going into the nitty gritty details but bear with me for a minute. We know that Isayama gives distinct facial features despite his inconsistencies (although that’s because he has improved on his art), and since we aren’t given much of the mystery man’s face to look at, I figured we can pay attention to his nose. So we know that Eren has grown out his hair since chapter 90, but we can also see here that the man’s nose shape looks very similar to Eren’s (scroll up to compare with the first panel of Eren). It’s not crooked, curved, or super round. It has just that shape that would fit within Eren’s facial profile. Had there been any other character with this hairstyle or someone who could possibly have grown this hairstyle as well, I wouldn’t have pointed this detail out because there are of course other characters with this similar nose shape. The mere fact that Isayama is only giving so little for us to look at makes me think he had to leave out some sort of hint, right? In fact, he could have completely cut out the mystery man’s face so that we only see his hair and then Falco’s face.

Aside from the nose, it’s hard to tell the eye shape but I can say that it appears to be a bigger eye (which Eren has) if you look at the distance from the eyebrow.

Furthermore, if you look closely at the man’s hair scalp area, it is in the same position as Eren’s is. The hair separates in the middle. The fact that this detail is added in this panel above further points out a clue as to who this person could be.

Also, side note but if this does end up being Eren then it seems that the guy has grown a bit of a stub (which honestly makes me so excited for some reason??? lol)

I also need to stress that if this were a “new” or “unknown” character, why would Isayama go through the effort of hiding the man’s face and showing as little as possible? Clearly this is someone we know and considering that he reappears in this chapter means this guy isn’t just some random dude we should feel sorry for, or??

Lastly, I just want to briefly point out that the armband being misplaced implies that this person clearly isn’t familiar with this environment, which is why most of us can at least agree that this is a spy.

2. Eren likes to “act” before he goes in for the kill:

I would like to remind you guys the times Eren has tried to “trick” his enemies by playing innocent before attacking them. Here are some examples:

I think these parallels are important to point out because they show an aspect of Eren’s character, that being that he likes to deceive his enemies (although in a bit of a childish way). For Eren to play as an injured soldier seems very fitting to his character. Of course, I get that he’s a spy and has to “fit in” with the crowd, but he could’ve skipped the effort of cutting his own leg off, right?? Well, I would say that Eren wants to portray himself as weak and vulnerable because that brings less suspicion. I doubt that the Marley soldiers are going to pick on a guy missing a leg, and through this Eren can easily win their sympathy as he did when he tried to rescue Mikasa from the kidnappers.

3. The mystery man was spying on Reiner:

If you were to ask yourself who Eren would look for if he were to spy on the Marley, wouldn’t the best candidate be Reiner? I mean, if this spy really isn’t Eren, why pay particular attention to Reiner out of all people?? It could have been someone on a much higher position if we’re talking about getting secret information. The fact that this man was watching Reiner heavily implies that he knows who Reiner is, and is using him to find the others. Sure, he could also have gone for Zeke since he has seen the guy before, but I’m sure Eren holds a bigger grudge against Reiner for the moment (he also only saw Zeke for a brief moment so there’s that too). That being said, I have a feeling that this foreshadows a reunion between Reiner and Eren. I wouldn’t be surprised if Eren still wanted to get rid of Reiner first before making any other move. This would make more sense as to why he would choose to spy on Reiner more.

EDIT 4. Eren being the spy fits with the narrative:

@featherpoet made a pretty good point about this so I’m just going to simply quote what they said:

“Since we’ve passed over to the Marley PoV, we’ve seen sooooo many parallels between the characters that grew up there and the ones we knew from Paradis. Gabi -> Eren, Reiner -> Armin, etc. So, it makes narrative sense that the infiltrator would also fit into some sort of mirrored position, since that’s the kind of story that Isayama is telling.

Eren Jaeger is named after Eren Kruger. You know. The spy who informed on the Marley and had a premonition about Mikasa and Armin. It makes soooo much sense that the second Eren would also sneak into the Marley camp. Like, the narrative framing is just too good to pass up. No other character could fit that well.”

EDIT 5. There are parallels seen between Reiner and Eren in the chapter:

@lady-bluebird-luv makes a case pointing out the similarities the two characters have, and I think this only strengthens my prediction that we’re going to see Eren take the role that Reiner had when he was infiltrating Paradis Island. To quote:

“Both of them have come face-to-face with what they consider to be monsters. We also learn in this chapter that Reiner’s father is Marleyian, and his mother is Eldian. Eren’s parents are both Eldians, but his mother is a Walldian while his father is from outside of the walls. In fact, both Eren and Reiner have fathers from the other side of the walls. for Reiner, it’s the wall between the true Marleyians and the Eldians. For Eren, it’s the wall between Paradise and the rest of the world. In a sense, they’re both hybrids.”

With the previous chapter where we had the mystery guy watching Reiner, I think this parallel we’re seeing only further strengthens my theory that that person is definitely Eren. It’s almost symbolic when you think about it because if this person is Eren, then there might be an implication that Eren might want to take away everything Reiner cherishes (hence making that panel feel more eerie because the danger is literally behind his back). Think about it, we see Reiner in that moment trying to guide the kids away from a place that he considers to be too dangerous, and coincidentally but not coincidentally we see that mystery guy in that direction. Now do I think Eren would do something that cruel? Well, considering the parallels we’re seeing now, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Eren doing it for sake of making Reiner feel the same pain as he did when he lost his mother.

Now I’ve noticed there are certain claims that have made people skeptical about this person being Eren, and there are a few I would like to argue against:

1. It’s too obvious!!

Okay, first of all, this isn’t the first time Isayama has been “obvious” in regards to the mysteries of AoT. Remember the Female Titan? It was pretty obvious that while all the characters were trying to figure out the identity, most of us knew it was Annie with all the screaming hints we were given. It’s true that sometimes Isayama likes to give as few hints as possible so that the reader doesn’t figure out too much but I think in this case Isayama wants to warn the reader that this person is someone we should watch closely rather than wonder who the hell this person could possibly be.

2. Why would the Survey Corps take such a risk with Eren??

My guess is that either this is actually part of the Survey Corps plan OR Eren decided to run off on his own due to disagreements. Besides, the Survey Corps HAS made risky decisions before. They always have, and it’s not sure whether Eren is the only spy right now. However, I’m gonna go with the latter because it really does make sense that Eren would go on an independent mission. Let’s refer to chapter 45, shall we?

Remember these pages? It’s pretty telling that this is a foreshadowing of what’s to come for Eren. So to say that Eren would be rash enough to charge against an entire country on his own isn’t too crazy to believe. This is exactly what the reader should expect Eren to do. It was him after all who brought up the idea of killing the enemies on the other side. When Eren has a new goal, he’ll charge after it even if everyone else disagrees with him.

3. Eren wouldn’t be stupid enough to wear the armband on the wrong side!

Ummmm… yes he would actually?? A hot-headed, emotional, acts-first-thinks-later-type-of-guy would do just that??? Sounds like the Eren I know, at least. This isn’t Armin we’re talking about here, you know?? I highly doubt Eren would pay attention to such a small detail. This is the guy who denied all the evidence that Annie was the Female Titan, despite how obvious it was (although be it that his emotions clouded his judgement). He’s never been the guy to come up with a brilliant plan, and I think we can all agree on that. Consider the fact that this guy likes to “look at the bigger picture”, I don’t think you should be surprised that he made such a simple mistake.

4. The mystery man has limbs cut off! Shouldn’t they have regenerated??

I know others have already explained this one, but I’d like to point out anyway that Reiner managed to control his bitten arm from healing. In this case, it’s very possible that Eren is doing the same and must’ve trained himself to hold back from healing. No need for further explanation.

5. It could be Jean since he has disguised himself as Eren before!

Okay, this one really doesn’t make any sense, considering that if this is true then the Survery Corps are allowing a man with a missing leg to for some reason disguise as Eren with longer hair which NO ONE from the Marley side (Reiner and Zeke) remember him having??? I mean, I highly doubt Jean became a Titan shifter unless he ate Annie which just makes my brain hurt because this theory just doesn’t add up whatsoever lol. Sorry, but I just don’t see a severely injured Jean to follow a plan like this.

6. Reiner and Zeke would recognise Eren if they saw him!

Actually, no I don’t think they would. Not at first glance, at least. With longer hair, a stub, and a missing leg, one could easily overlook Eren as just another injured soldier. Keep in mind that having longer hair makes it easier to hide his face from others. Eren’s change in his appearance makes all the more sense for him to go undercover.

7. How are the Survey Corps going to defend themselves if Eren is gone?

I think after the multiple ships sent to Paradis Island that ended up disappearing, I don’t think the Marley are stupid enough to continue sending more. After all, Zeke did mention that they needed a “proper” plan to retrieve the Titan powers. Also, they still have Armin, and maybe even Annie I mean ffs she better not still be in that crystal after all this time lol. I’m sure they are not completely helpless without Eren’s power.

8. How would Eren not be spotted when coming over to the Marley side?

Well, considering that we know this mysterious guy is all injured, it’s very possible that Eren used this injury to disguise himself as a soldier who was part of the 4 year war. Did he use a small boat to come over? Or did he hijack one of the ships that tried to invade Paradis Island? If he did the latter, then it would have been reported being seen arrive back. My guess is he used one of the Marley soldiers to help him navigate through Marley territory without being spotted. It’s very possible that he still used one of the ships that invaded Paradis Island but found a way to sink it before being seen (he is a Titan shifter so I’ll leave the rest to your imagination). Hell, maybe he even managed to find himself in the middle of a battle before the war ended and that’s how he came up with the idea of injuring himself so it could look like he was on the battlefield.

So those are my opinions on the Mystery Man as of now. I’m sure I’ve probably forgotten to add some other important points so I’ll be sure to do so if I feel the need to. Feel free to agree or disagree. I’d love to hear what other thoughts people have but for now I am definitely leaning towards this guy being Eren. All the clues seem to point to him.

Thomas has said before that he doesn’t have a secret fan account. Whether or not you believe that is up to you. Personally, though–and I’m not a conspiracy theorist in any sense–I feel like you kids are missing something. Sure, Thomas is the one who makes the references, since he does play all the characters.

However, he is not the only scriptwriter of the series.

So I hear your “What if Thomas has a secret account” and raise you a “What if Joan has a secret account so they can gush even more about their best friend?”

So I have been checking up discussions from last year about Santa Claus being Black and how much of an unnecessary controversy it caused and it got me thinking, does the public even know if Batman was white or do people just assume he is? cuz lets be real, the man is covered from head to toe and only appear at nights, that’s not enough to know someone ethnicity so what if every kid in Gotham believe that Batman is the same race as them and will not allow someone to tell them otherwise?

.

White kid: But why do you think Batman is black?!

Black kid: Why do you think he isn’t?

White kid: Why? have you see his chin skin? its white so how can he be black?

Black kid: Heelloo, black people with vitiligo exist so….

White kid: Bu- thats-….that’s just an unlikely to thing to be. Thats all.

Korean kid: Well if you’re so hang up on skin color then Batman might be Korean? we have fair skin too.

White kid: What?? how can he be Korean if he doesn’t have Asian eyes??

Korean kid: Ah, well not all of us have “Asian Eyes” and even if we do, Batman has his mask on him at all time, so how do you know he doesn’t have “asian eyes” under there?

White kid: Because I’m being logical and going by facts unlike you.

Arab kid: Well if you really wanna be “logical” wouldn’t it make the most sense if Batman was middle-eastern?

White kid: And how does THAT make any sense?!?

Arab kid: Well I mean the current Robin is obviously Arab and unlike all the other Robins he refer to Batman as “father” which would mean Batman is his father so it would make sense if Batman too was the same ethnicity as his son.

White kid: Okay all of you really need to stop attacking me right now because Batman is white just like Jesus is >:(

Arab kid: Oh boy if you think Jesus was white then I got some news for you…

Step 1! Get everyone’s attention. A powerful, majestic start. Maybe a battle horn of some kind?

Step 2! Drums! There has to be drums! It doesn’t hurt if the drums are played by gorgeous topless men. It’s proven very efficient throughout the years.

But, please feel free to try other alternatives. It’s proven very helpful to go the exact opposite way. Use a grandmother!

Step 3! Show the viewers your country’s ethnic background by using an old traditional folklore instrument that no-one’s heard of before
No, no - in this case, it’s proven much more efficient to not use a young model. Go with an old man instead. A beard helps!

This instrument is called a Swedish kvinnaböske - a small roundish piece from the horn family, inherited from the Vikings. Just make something up. No-one will know!

Step 4! In Eurovision, nothing says winner like a violin. Trust us - bring a violin

Step 5! The violin, the drums and the kvinnaböske might make it all feel a little bit old fashioned, but this can easily be fixed by adding a DJ who pretends to scratch.

In real life of course, this is thirty years old but in Eurovision, it will give your number a contemporary feel

Step 6 - costumes! You need to look memorable, something that the viewers will notice.

Oh! Perfect!

Step 7! The song. Everything else might be important, but the song is essential. Let it be about something everyone can connect to. Love works. Peace is also a popular way to go
Yes, peace is good. ABBA actually won the competition with a song about war with Waterloo, but this is not something we recommend
Now when you have everything you need and the pieces are gathered - go for it and don’t look back!

Let the song begin with passion
Let the wind begin to blow
You can break the rules of fashion
And your chance to win shall grow
Look into the TV camera
So the audience can see
That you’re lovable - not desperate
Smile and they will vote for me

Fill the stage with light
As dancers will join us
The expectations grow
It’s time for the chorus

Love love peace peace
Old women baking bread

Peace peace love love
And a man in a hamster wheel

Love peace peace love
Make it unforgettable
You will be the best
And win the Eurovision Song Contest

Now we’ll go down a notch
Our hands will touch
Pretending we’re in love

It’s you and me and when we change the key
We’ll give the world a show
It begins to snow

Love love peace peace
And a burning fake piano

Peace peace love love
And a Russian man on skates

Love peace peace love
It’ll be incredible
You will be the best

Love love peace peace
Party for everybody!

Peace peace love love
More tricks in a hamster wheel

Love peace peace love
And we can guarantee
That you will be the best

And win the Eurovision Song Contest
And win the Eurovision Song Contest

I actually have a question. Since Frisk is non-binary, I know Aidrian wouldn't refer to them as her little brother. Does she just call them her sibling or something of that nature then? Or does she just refer to them as Frisk, even in a situation where something akin to "little sibling" would make sense? It doesn't really matter that much in the long run I suppose, but I am kinda curious. Sibling is really the only gender neutral term I can think of here.

Yeah she says sibling. She used to trip up in the past but she’s pretty good about it now. And Frisk was always just happy that someone in the family understood and accepted them.

THIS MEME MAKES ME SO FUCKING MAD.

Ok so this meme is a remake of another, earlier meme where the text goes something like this:

“Bob Ross: *draws hammer*

Me: nice

Bob Ross: *draws sickle* because everybody needs a friend

Me: *holding back tears* nice”

This remake is terrible for a multitude of reasons and I will explain ALL OF THEM, here we go:

1. This remake is barely readable. It’s unclear what it is Bob Ross is doing in his second line cause the motherfucker who made this FORGOT THE DAMN ASTERISKS, so idk what is action and what is speech, unless it’s ALL speech or ALL action. The original was clear and easy to follow.

2. What the fuck is “an circle Anarchy A”? It’s called a circle-a. I would’ve even accepted “anarchy symbol”, but this shit is just redundant and stupid.

3. It says “Beautiful” in the end, which is so much less funny than the simple “nice” of the original. There’s no reason to escalate the dalogue because THAT’S ALREADY DONE IN THE ACTION OF HOLDING BACK YOUR TEARS! The repetition of the word “nice” makes it funnier cause you can imagine the person looking at the painting process and just repeating their words while trying to suppress their emotions but clearly failing.

4. THE CANVAS IS SO MUCH UGLIER! THE GRADIENT IS SO UGLY!

5. Why can’t this asshole just allow us that have ONE GOD DAMN MEME that appeals to all communists, instead of remaking it to be specifically ancom. The old one was already inclusive to anarchists, so why even make this?

EDIT: I forgot two point so:

6. Motherfucker, this makes no sense at all. In the original the “everybody needs a friend” can refer to how the HAMMER needs a friend, the sickle. What the fuck does this shit mean? That the circle-a is friends with the hammer and sickle?

7. Why change the word friend to comrade? That makes it less funny because (1) the hammer and sickle is enough of a reference to communism and (2) it sounds way less like something Bob Ross would say. The original stays in character.

Fairy Tail Chapter 527 Review

This Chapter my god.

Our cover page is… eh. I mean it’s not bad but it’s just kinda standard Natsu, Lucy, and Happy. Not much to say.

So we open on a crying Larcade. Oh man ever sense you showed up again it’s been really pathetic. Please someone put an end to this.

ouch. Brutal Zeref, very brutal. Also Natsu I think friends stop mattering after a hole has been blown in.

That. Was pretty badass.

We cut away to the fight with Gildarts and August.

August’s speech is really odd here. When he says born with a mighty power, is he talking about what he’s going to do now, because he says he’s neglected it. Also this barrier all living things meet, I guess he means death because he took Crash head on with no like defense or anything like that. Also, were going to see this magic that has the power to kill everyone right now, why didn’t you lead of with it? You called this ragnorak, the norse term for the end of the world, what took you so long?

Oh shit he’s going Vegeta, you know he means business.

Even when your trying to help, you are a pain to read Mavis. Seriously, defense mode, I didn’t know magic ran on a yugioh mechanics. Also yes this was kinda referenced that someone could shut them off, but it doesn’t really give who in the chapter did it. I guess it tries to imply it’s August but it’s not clear.

Okay Gildarts I don’t think you can stop the oxygen from leaving her body and now we get to the toughest thing about this chapter. (Okay first there seems to be a translation issue as August is talking down to Jellal and it seems like he’s saying that Jellal has a ruler who will have a child of light, but it’s just an error) and this is the reference of how the only one who can beat August is his mom.

He just gives up. Like what? Okay, first things first this does make more sense then Irene’s bullshit “I always loved you” but this doesn’t make sense as “only his mother could beat him”. Mavis did nothing. I want to assume that he meant he never felt love from his father so his mother finally showing it would cause him to stop but Mavis does nothing.

Well Gray and Lucy reunite with Mavis. Even though it makes no sense to leave him because you seem to be back there at the end of the chapter, oh forget it, here’s the big thing with this chapter.

Okay first Mavis has the book of END, you think zeref who loves his brother would want to keep an eye on his life force. Then, HOW THE FUCK DOES MAVIS KNOW ABOUT END? I don’t ever recall her knwing, let alone natsu is END. And then We have Mavis saying Natsu will beat Zeref which okay fine we know END is suppose to beat Zeref but then she goes on to say she’ll erase him, I want to assume that she got the idea of erasing from Jacob’s magic because later she will say something really stupid that almost makes it seem like there was no point to Jacob. Finally, Why the hell would you call away Gray and Lucy to save Natsu’s life if you are basically saying he’ll need them at his side, you inconsistent bitch.

We cut away to the Natsu vs Zeref fight.

Y’know Natsu is on point this chapter of putting Zeref in his place. However, this does fel lessened as this and the last 4 chapters have been really laying on the family message.

Again, thank you Natsu.

So after the both go super saiyan we get the part of the chapter that probably made me the angriest. And it’s Mavis saying she’s found a way to beat Zeref. Okay, Mavis you said the reason that you wanted out of the lumen histoire is because after the Jacob fight you said you found a way to beat Zeref, but you then go on to say that Natsu will definitely win but by the way this is written is implying that you only now have put all the pieces together to form a plan and for the rest of the time you’ve been bull shiting your way through this plan. That’s not a strategist that’s a not thought out gambler. But I’m not surprised as Mavis’s strategies are like this, no actual plan just have faith and see how it turns out, fuck you Mavis, fuck you.

And then we get our next chapter titled “Dragon Demon” Oh god i’ll mention this in the post chapter follow up.

Post chapter follow up: I genuinely wanted to like this chapter but god there is some problems. I’ve said everything about Mavis that I needed to and if your curious why I hate her so much this chapter is because it’s the typical Mavis shit. Mavis is an idiot, all of her plans don’t have actual strategy just hedging her bet that FT will somehow figure it out. Why this makes me so mad is look at Natsu, he is an idiot. But imagine he has a moment when he’s fighting villain with a tricky power and says he’s found a way around all of his attacks and I planned this whole thing out and just results in him punching hard. That sounds horrible and makes no sense as a strategy. That is Mavis. Someone built as this grand genius but always comes through because of not actual planning or tricking the opponent into a false sense of Security no she bull shits her way through and claims it’s smart. Another thing is this “she’s a mother”. She’s done nothing motherly, you Mavis haven’t raised or taught or stood beside these kids. In fact Makarov, who actually acts like a parent, mentions how she only saw them as soldiers not children. And in this moment with August where she needs to be a mom, she does nothing.

Another thing, I don’t know how to feel for this ending of the August fight. We know Mavis would be why he goes down but it doesn’t seem to add up as they don’t even exchange any dialogue whatsoever. But I guess saying Gildarts beat him with Absolute Heaven was okay, I wish it went longer but I’ll take it.

Dragon Demon. SO much for building “I’m human” because now it seems like it’s just going to be “yeah I need those powers to win” oh, I so hope he doesn’t turn into a demon dragon because that would make that big moment he had in his heart pointless.

On to the good stuff, Natsu is amazing this chapter. I’m serious he is handling this better than I thought it be, I expected standard “were fairy tail” or “I have friends” but bringing in the family thing is just great.

Zeref again is crazy but again it’s really entertaining  to see him lose it.

Also, THANK GOD, END is back. I’m so happy because if that thing did not make an appearance again I was going to groan in pain.

I also acknowledge a lot of my dislike is stemmed from Mavis and that some do like her  but I just can’t. I really wanted to like this chapter because ever since the “I choose human” thing, Hiro hasn’t put out a below average chapter or at worst average, it’s honestly great because he’s the end of the ending should be good.

Final Verdict: 5/10

  • It has some problems
  • It has quite questionable moments
  • Natsu is the best thing this chapter and carries the good quality

This might seem like a stupid question, and I apoligize if it is, but what was Papyrus referring to when he said Sans hadn't recalibrated his puzzles? Monsters make them, but I thought that was for fun, and Sans is at work (if resetting their own puzzle is what Papyrus is talking about). Yet, Papyrus acts like he's supposed to be doing that instead of watching...waiting for humans? That quote confuses me a lot.

(undertale spoilers)

Here is the first mention of puzzles in the game, made by Toriel.

Puzzles must be solved “to move from room to room.” While Toriel does not say it, these puzzles were originally designed to stop human attacks. This NPC gives the explanation for all the puzzles in the underground.

It makes sense that puzzles were used to thwart humans. Depending on their difficulty, humans could be stuck solving puzzles instead of attacking. Since few humans fall into the underground, however, building and solving puzzles has become an “awful tradition” instead. Even Papyrus makes a reference to this in the genocide route. (Although he calls it a “loving tradition.”)

While Sans only ever mentions that as a sentry he is supposed to “watch for humans,” Papyrus takes the puzzle tradition very seriously. However, Undyne mentions in one phone call that she “was supposed to build a puzzle for this room.”

This implies that building and maintaining puzzles is a job for the guards and sentries, considering Undyne still makes an attempt. Luckily, she is able to use puzzles as an excuse to place a piano in a room!

So it's not only that ks has a beautiful thighs and butt. He also cute without even trying, he likes to be pampered, and also he is clingy. Yet people complain when fic writers write ks this way. They want the "manly and buff daddy u.u" ks. Which is probably something ks isn't.

LOLz that’s why i’ve been calling them hypocrites. these people are too obsessed with ks masculinity to the point they would use arguments that contain bottom shaming or basically putting feminine boys in bad light. it’s ughlee and really detestable.

imo, ks has certain traits that can be considered to be ~traditionally feminine~ (mm bet some of y’all are triggered right after your brain decipher ks + ‘feminine’ being associated together, better read it ‘til the end) such as;

- he likes/is good at cooking* (remember when he cooked for the entire filming staffs in 2015? remember how he cooked in vlive?),

- good at cleaning* (ji said in radio interview ks folded his shirts before and jd admitted ks nags a lot about hygiene/cleanliness in their dorm),

*cooking and cleaning are basic requirements to stay alive tbh, don’t get why these stuffs are considered ~feminine~ but i include them here to match the current society standard™

- many people have said he’s caring, as in “mother-like” (remember he used to be referred as the “mom” of the group during 2012~2013? even ji called ks “mama” before. funny that thing suddenly stopped after some rumors surfaced… also, remember that japanese dance group talked about meeting exo backstage and how caring ks is cuz ks basically handed them lunch boxes?),

Q: “how does ji call you (ks)?”

A: “ks-hyung” and “mama*”

i know mama in kr means “your highness” but during this period ks was often being called as the “mom of the group (e x o - k)”, so it makes more sense to interpret mama as mother.

- he does pilates which is an exercise that’s popular among women instead of men, because it tones your lower limbs (such as thighs and buttocks) and increases your flexibility. plus it’s kinda similar to yoga and we know yoga is also popular among women.

some might argue that he does this for comeback (like bbh has said in their vlive, but then again, if so, why others aren’t doing it?) or for his upcoming movie (the movie is gonna be filmed in sept.. it’s too early to prepare. ks started training for hyung when the filming began.) imo he’s doing this for personal reason.

- he once helped around at his mom’s salon (he even said he had thought of becoming a stylist. there’s pic of him styling osh hair) which means he has some skills/knowledge about stuffs like this. he often carries that vaseline lipbalm as well. anyway, this one isn’t necessarily traditionally feminine trait/character imo, but ppl who deal/care about things like this are mostly women (it’s just like the pilates thingy).

- like you’ve mentioned; he likes to be pampered (his boyfriend ji said it himself that ks is “駄々っ子” (read: dadakko) which literally means “spoiled child” or “pampered child” and if it’s translated to korean it has similar meaning to aegyo–as in someone who behaves cutely like a child), contrasting the ~traditional masculine~ trait where men are expected to pamper their partner.

- and he’s clingy (which he had admitted by himself during pure love interview and even ji kinda confirmed this one by saying ks is similar to koala bc ks clings on ji)

all of these traits do not make ks less than a man. im really tired of these people (particularly his stans–and this is coming from a ks biased person. although there are some of ji stans who are like this too because “ji is the cute one!! uwu”, not saying ji isn’t cute ofc, he can be adorable as well just like ks.. still, it’s not a valid reason to argue/get mad about ks being portrayed as a soft & smol boy™ bc it has no correlation. you know what’s funny? ks has never called ji cute. it’s always ji who calls/compliments him with that word. ks has called/complimented ji as “cool”, “handsome”, “sexy”, “has the best body”, “most mature member” but never cute. anyways.)

it’s really aggravating seeing them bitching about ks being portrayed in the ways that have been mentioned above because it ~effeminate~ him!! uwu, even though those things are still part of him. it makes me questioning them tbh; are they ashamed that their fave has those particular traits?

also, his body description. i rmmber back then in 2015~2016 some people were legit triggered if you say ks is smol or tiny or short or has narrow shoulders. this makes no sense whatsoever…. bc that’s just basically how his body is. why people are getting mad over this shit? jesus christ.

i still remember people argued over his and ji’s hand sizes. it’s obvious ks’ hand is slightly smaller (pics)…. honestly, why ppl even fought over this dumbshit. god.

if we compare him with those tall members ks is smaller/shorter (and he’s def shorter than the official height SM published + he often wears shoes with thick soles that prob elevate his height to become 5~7 cm taller), and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that.

there’s nothing wrong with a guy being small or undersize (he even admitted this by himself during ‘hyung’ interview; “im undersized so i had to exercise to fit the role, although now the muscles are gone”). and there’s nothing wrong for a guy liking/doing stuffs that are considered to be ~traditionally feminine~.

if you find such thing to be offensive, it’s your problem. if you dislike there’s a possibility for your faves to not be able to fulfill your macho/masc/hetero bs standard, you’re the problematic one.

honestly, this topic reminds me of the phrase; “masculinity is such a fragile concept”. i thought it’s only str8 men who get triggered when their masculinity is endangered but turns out some girlies have this sorta mindset too. sad.

it’s kinda ironic cuz ks once wore that shirt with “gender equality” written on the front area (which i assume he supports the idea behind the mssg) yet some of his stans love to spew out words that are basically bottomshaming and/or degrading fem! boy. they also seem to be so overly crazy (and highly aggressive) with the idea of ks being masculine/dom. it’s a bit…..yikes. no wonder ks only shows his aegyo/soft side to his closest ones lulz.

anyways, y’all who think “men being associated with femininity (such as being complimented as pretty/beautiful/soft/curvy) = insult” are just plain bizarre to me….and unlikable. if you’re one of those people, please stay away from me and my blog. just pretend that im dead or something. block me.

p.s: im not proud that i remember all of those stuffs (the interviews etc)… they just… sorta…. stuck in my head.  also, wow this is a long answer. somehow i feel like im gonna regret answering this cuz the topic seems to be sensitive… oh well.

p.p.s: dks is a beautiful, adorable, smol and clingy soft boy who loves to be pampered/spoiled by his boyfie (kji) and there’s nothing your crusty ass can do to change it. literally not-a-thing. not even sending h8 anons to my inbox can change it.

A Song of Ice and Fire: Sansa Stark [INFP]

SUBMITTED by littlebirdinthevaleofarryn

Introverted Feeling (Fi): Sansa is proud of who she is, as a Stark and a proper lady. She has trouble at first sympathizing on a deeper level with others because she’s so in tune with her own emotions. She’s is a very compassionate girl, even pre-development, but she truly empathizes best when she has some personal connection (ie Sandor’s talk about knights, his saving her, and knowing his tragic back story). In A Game of Thrones she’s very focused on what she values most: becoming queen and enjoying her Southron life, and is devasted when Ned says he’s taking it away. She doesn’t open up to her deepest emotions easily, and can be cold at times, if a matter isn’t important to her herself, leading her to initially be a bit self-centered. She tries to get Arya to visit the queen and princess by appealing to her with things Sansa personally likes (lemoncakes and music), not realizing her sister doesn’t necessarily like the same things she does. She’s sensitive and is very hurt when she hears criticism, even from Joffrey, in spite of knowing his petty insults don’t really have any power to hurt her anymore. Due to her upbringing, she plays the part of the obedient daughter usually because she’s good at it and likes the positive reinforcement she gets for it, but she generally wants to help others- like with Sandor, who was mean to her, and sickly, spoiled Sweetrobin, who none of the lords care about. Gentleness is important to her, and she decides she’ll rule with love instead of fear as Cersei advises, if she ever becomes queen. She finds it a bit hard to stay Alayne sometimes, because she has such a deep sense of self as Sansa Stark.

Extroverted Intuition (Ne): Sansa is at the beginning of the books is very dreamy and doesn’t entirely live in reality.  She sees life as a fairy tale like in the songs, sees things as they could be, her idealized version of them: King’s Landing being so magical, Ser Dontos as her “Florian”, Margaery being her ideal big sister (when she’s actually manipulating Sansa). She tends to see the good in people (at first), and later she often correctly guesses the motives of people under Littlefinger’s teachings. While Arya immediately dislikes the Lannisters without knowing any of them because Jon insulted them, Sansa senses that Jon is just jealous because he’s a bastard (which is true). She sees what’s REALLY going on that others miss, noting that Joffrey is much more of a Lannister than a Baratheon, something the adults never realized. She’s at first willing to ignore Joff’s behavior at the trident to keep her dream of a fairy tale life from shattering. Even after she drops the rose colored glasses, she does keep some optimism and always hopes for a better life later. She struggles to see where Petyr ends and Littlefinger begins, and is never sure of who is the real deal. She learns to make up convincing lies easily and adopt a new persona as Lord Baelish’s bastard daughter.

Introverted Sensing (Si): Sansa is proud of her Northern heritage and is always reminding herself that she is a Stark. She constantly refers back to songs, stories, and facts about people she’s learned and compares it to what’s going on currently. She sees Joffrey as the dashing prince who will marry her and fulfill her dreams because that’s how it works in the stories. She misses home badly, and at the Eyrie shows her remorse through making a little snow  replica of Winterfell. When in need of comfort, she goes for her favorite books, songs, or food. Sansa fits the traditional role of a noble lady very well and is happy with that position because it’s always been good to her.  It’s no secret that she tends to… remember things very subjectively. She’s again, very observant- she notices external details quite well (”[Littlefinger’s] eyes did not smile when his mouth did"). She’s worked at becoming an accomplished lady for years and has many talents as a result. She knows what society expects her to do and is able to fit the role of a lady well. She bases much of her Alayne Stone persona as a noble bastard on her half-brother Jon Snow (being fourteen years old, being brave, not liking to dance, etc.).

Extroverted Thinking (Te): Sansa is able to be proactive- Father backing out of his promise and says he’s shipping the girls home? Go ask the queen, the authority figure, to stop him. Father on death row? Go to Joffrey at court, charm him, and appeal for her father’s life. At her worst, Sansa can be bossy and rude when she perceives something as incompetence, unfair, or irrational. When she and Sweetrobin must cross the narrow snowy bridge alone, she is able to keep herself and the boy calm, coach him and keep him focused until they’re safely across. As Alayne Stone, she is able to run a household efficiently by herself and be more blunt in her views with people. She sets goals and works to meet them (get Cersei to convince Father to let her stay, do what she wants to keep the betrothel, win over Harry, etc).

Note: This is for book!Sansa, whose TV counterpart has become wildly different from. I do think Sansa values social harmony to a degree, but because she’s been taught to and because she personally dislikes conflict ruining her good time. Westerosi society values the Introverted Sensing a lot, especially in its women, so Sansa’s been taught to exercise it more- and it helps that both her parents are Si-doms, I don’t think she uses it enough to be an ISFJ, and she gets bored or tired of people’s company when she’s around it too much and lives inside her own head, ruling out an extroverted type.

Adlock For Dummies

I was supposed to write some fanfiction, and as usual, I decided to scroll through the Adlock tag to get some feels rolling. But instead, I found myself disappointed at the fact that there has been another fiasco involving hate being present in the tags that caused a back-and-forth between Adlockers and, based on my observation, some Johnlock shippers (and yes, I’m using the entire ship name to have it appear on their tag because tit for tat).

So first off, bless you my fellow shippers, @i-am-adlocked, @redwulfgirl, @marvelfangirlandsherlockian4ever, @magicalpostface, to name a few for defending the ship to the core, and for @thank-you-for-being-with-me and @themissadventurer for explaining wth happened.

Now, this isn’t me putting gas to the already burning fire, but it is sickening to go over this again and again and again. To be fair, I have tried to be level headed back then about this whole conundrum, but seriously though, this has got to stop.

So I decided to approach this the Adlock way. I laid out the most common arguments against this ship and I’m going to give my most logical answers to it. Is this going low? Maybe. But hey, it’s a slow night for me so here’s to sharpening up my good ol’ brain cells.

Note: All quote references came from this brilliant post.

PART ONE: Disproving common arguments

1. “But Irene is gay…”

Yes, Irene had said this herself. From what I’ve seen in the fandom, people have a split opinion on the matter, taking Irene as either a lesbian or a bisexual, and coming from individuals who are part of the LGBTQ community, there should be a huge amount of respect for these opinions. But sadly, it has become a fiasco on its own. Now, as someone who is a genderfluid sapiosexual (putting this here because otherwise I would be called out for pushing heteronormativity or spreading homophobia and all those things), I personally think that Irene used the term gay loosely. She obviously prefers women, but is also evidently attracted to Sherlock.

So referencing what Lara Pulver stated back in 2012, “It’s just a label, isn’t it? Because, at the end of the day, I think she had feelings for Sherlock. So then people say, ‘Well, so she’s obviously not gay. She must be bisexual.’ But actually, let’s not label this. Let’s just know that human beings fall for other human beings.”

2. “Shipping Adlock is homophobic”

If we are going by expressed declarations of sexuality, it is important to not only take in Irene Adler’s preference into question. John Watson has been very vocal about not being gay, having been engaged into several relationships prior to his marriage with Mary Morstan, and yet has been subject to claims that he is, in fact, in love with Sherlock Holmes. So, logically speaking, rejecting one point over the other completely disproves the argument.

3. “There are undeniable proof that Sherlock and John are in love”

This is something I didn’t want to tap on, but felt like I needed to do so. From the ACD canon to the BBC version, there are arguments falling ill to the common notion that the relationship of the two borders on romance.

It has been a common fictional trope, where a character who is angsty and misunderstood is accepted by a trusty and kind comrade – or a brother not by blood but by bond if you will – and it is something intriguing because it is not so common in real life. This is because as much as it is embraced in fiction, males in real life are often pushed into the stigma of being macho men, for the smallest amount of affection showed towards someone else is regarded to as romantic attraction.

Love is very much present between Sherlock and John, but similar to characters like Frodo and Sam from LotR, Jem and Will from The Infernal Devices, Steve and Bucky from Captain America, and other ‘shippable bromances’, this is, in fact, nothing romantic, because newsflash, romance isn’t the only type of love there is. And the main reason why there are often claimed as so is because of this underlying patriarchal effect that two men can be friends, ‘but hey, no homo’, which frankly makes this all the more absurd. It’s like we hate this thinking but subconsciously, we have fallen deep into the expectations it represents.

4. Queerbaiting

In millions of interviews and conventions, the writers have explicitly said that Sherlock and John are not together, at least not in a romantic fashion, and this is first and foremost a story of their adventures as a detective and his chronicler. So blaming them and accusing them of queerbaiting is very much unfair.

All the ships have the liberty to ship what they ship, to hold on to every evidence and claim that they have as presented in the show, but to push through with an idea once a conclusion has been drawn seems unfair to the entire fandom altogether. It is fair to feel disappointed towards an episode you didn’t like, but a story and a writer that reels toward what the audience asks it to be is nothing more than laziness.

YOU. CAN. ALWAYS. STOP. WATCHING. Don’t go as far as ruin the experience for everyone. It’s like because you’re allergic to nuts, then you expect your entire school to ban it and close all the shops in town selling it.

PART TWO: “Adlock does not make sense”

I felt this needs to be a section on its own because as much as our ship only has a handful of references to play with, I can at least say that Adlock has sailed by itself even without our help.

1. “So you like policemen?”

Most people who do not ship Adlock claim that Sherlock ‘malfunctioned’ in this scene because he was jealous ‘of’ Irene. But if we look at it, John was the first one who flirted with Irene by trying to make a move using the soldier card in contrast to Irene’s supposed liking of policemen.

Now to quote Mark Gatiss, “He suddenly meets someone who fascinates him. Holmes and Adler have an intellectual attraction. He doesn’t understand it. It’s like falling in love, but he doesn’t know what it is.”

It was obvious that having this woman one up him distracted him for a fragment of a second that he wanted to get back this air of superiority. Still, she outsmarts him. Also note that the morning after, he has already looked her up on Twitter, showing that she did pique his interest.

2. “You barely knew her.”

Abruptly answering is a way to tell when someone is lying according to Sherlock himself. So why did he give a clipped ‘yes’ when John asked if he was okay upon deducing that Irene Adler was ‘dead’?

Plus, nicotine was supposed to be something to keep him at bay – to keep his mind sharp. We saw how much he needs it if he’s an emotional wreck to enable him to think. But when Mycroft gave him low tar because he deemed that Sherlock barely knew Irene, he scoffed. He gave a grunt that sounds humorously offended. If you didn’t catch this then please watch the scene again.

3. “Craving the distraction of the game, I sympathise entirely.”

Sherlock and Irene were each other’s distraction, like the king and the queen of the opposing sides of the chessboard. And this was clearly a declaration that Sherlock was aware of how attracted he was to her, probably more so on an intellectual level, and that he genuinely wanted to understand and even impress her, much like her attempts to do so with him.

4. “There’s no point in my leaving the flat for anything less than a seven, we agreed.”

Karachi is 4,906.6 miles from London. Just putting it out there.

Oh and a challenge from Mr. Cumberbatch himself from 2015:  “They had a night. Irene Adler and Sherlock had a night. I’m absolutely certain of that. Deal with me.”

5. “I’ll still have it.”

Why would he ask for Irene’s Vertu? What did “The Woman… THE Woman.” mean? Going back to ASiP, the most obvious reference is “If she’d left him, he would’ve kept it. People do, sentiment.”

It was his obvious admission that Irene did in fact beat her, because she made him show that he did care about whatever it is that they had.

And add to his collection of all sentimental things, plus in reference to a Chekov’s gun, the rose in the hospital window in HLV disappeared, meaning Sherlock took it with him when he escaped. They wouldn’t show that camera play without meaning tbh.

6. “Get out of my head, I’m busy.”

Seeing how Sherlock’s mind palace works, he projects people in his mind as he needs them to be – whether it be their opinions, the moral balance they lead him to, etc.

As his mind illustrates, Mycroft is often shown in a setting where he is regarded to as an important compass for intellect and logic, whereas John is often the one who offers practical and emotional approaches. Molly in HLV was presented such as a medical reference, and Anderson represents the firm believer that despite the perils and impossibilities, he can surpass death once more – quite a touching nod to TEH Anderson, tbh.

Anyway, going back to that scene in ASoT, it was clear that the mere thought of The Woman sent him a wave of distraction and nostalgia. His representation of her was with the look of affection and longing, something projected by his own subconscious.

7. The pocketwatch in TAB

As this is all happening in his subconscious, the mere idea that John ‘his moral and emotional compass’ Watson brings up the thought of Irene Adler in the pocketwatch is an internal dialogue of his logic going against the musings of his heart.

8.  “People text. Even I  text. Her, I mean. Woman. Bad idea. Try not to, but you know, sometimes…”

Sometimes, what? That is the question, don’t you think?

In addition to the whole bromance thing, John expressing his grief in front of Sherlock cancels out the whole macho man facade and simply offers what years of friendship between them developed: trust. In this, Sherlock must’ve felt like the whole ‘I don’t text her back’ statement was already overdue, and just as how John confessed that he’s not as good as anyone holds him up to be, Sherlock also felt like it’s time to not be embarrassed to reveal that he is also, at times, vulnerable against his own impulses.

9. Irene knows Sherlock’s birthday + “The Woman will cry”in HLV

As I see them as people who don’t really fall much into these formalities, and also averting to the common notion that Sherlock and Irene’s relationship circulates in nothing more than lust, I’d like to point out that the main tether that tied them together is their intellectual connection. BUT, bordering to personal information, especially as  they are not people who would succumb to conventional topics of conversations, knowing Sherlock’s birthday and having his subconscious relate Irene Adler as someone who will be deeply affected by his death mean that their relationship has been long past simply passing time with mind games and solving cases.

10. He still has all her texts, has her name in his phone as The Woman, and saved that bloody text alert EVEN AFTER CHANGING PHONES

If this doesn’t shout sentiment, then I don’t even know…

11. “Play you.”

Now one argument about this is that maybe Sherlock played this because ‘play you’ simply means ‘play something you composed.’ BUT, Eurus also did tell Sherlock to play something he understands

After the statement regarding sex, it is clear that Sherlock is not as fazed as he was back in ASiB on the matter, and going beyond the implied physicality, it also shows that after all those years, Sherlock finally has an understanding as to why he wrote that piece for Irene Adler. It’s another solidification that they have developed a deeper relationship than just two people enjoying the company of the other for the mind games they provide, but they can even go as far as claim that they deem the other person as important.

And so, any other statements about Sherlock and Irene’s relationship in front and behind the camera is found in the post I used as a reference, which you can read here: http://sorrowsflower.tumblr.com/post/156423437518/compilation-of-adlock-quotes

Now if someone is up for an argument or would like to add anything else, my message box and replies are always open. With this off my chest, I think I’ll start working on those fanfictions again. :)

Writing Dialogue

@daelliance asked: “How can you improve on writing dialogue that’s natural? It’s a problem I have and I want to try to fix it before I start writing my book.”

For most writers, dialogue is often considered either the easiest thing to put on the page or the greatest challenge. Ultimately, whether you’re an old pro or an eager beginner, writing exercises can help you to better your craft. Having these exercises exist outside of your on-going projects more often allow you to focus solely on craft and getting the dialogue right instead of conveying the information you want said in this scene.

Here are a few things to try:

1. Listening to conversations in coffee shops, on public transit, or among friends. This may be the creepiest piece of advice I’ll ever recommend, but it’s a pretty popular one. (And for good reason - it works!) When you’re just writing down exactly what is said, as it’s said, then you’re paying attention not so much to the content of the conversation, but how that information is being shared. What can you gather about the people based on this conversation and the words they’re using? What phrases and figures of speech stick out?

  • I'm laying in my bed. The room is completely dark. O Helga Natt is on repeat.
  • Mom: Hey honey what do you want for dinne... Aren't you over exaggerating?
  • Me: I don't know, am I? Does anything make sense to you anymore? Everything led up to this day and now... Nothing.
  • Tell Julie it's too late.
  • Mom: I will make a salad...
There are two people wearing the mayor’s suit.

When the mayor leaves the crime scene to find and talk to the colonel he exits to the right.

Yet we find the two of them in a room to the left as we go to search for clues.

Chapter 2 we find ourselves outside alone with the Colonel. Who conveniently is unavailable when the dear mayor shows up to speak with him.

“Have you seen the Colonel? I thought I heard him.”

The first time mentioning being short with him last they spoke. This could have been the previous encounter.

“Damn, I thought I heard him.”

The second time he seems more frantic. Now this could be because he thought he heard the Colonel again. Although he wouldn’t need to repeat the line would he? He just mentioned it before, to you in fact.

Although it would make sense if the two of them had never actually spoken at all. Even more if this is his first encounter with you outside.

Also of note is the fact that he calls him Damien during their fight, yet refers to him as the mayor to you. This could just be because you and the colonel only just met, but if both of you are good friends with him, wouldn’t he just use his name?

Next, the mayor very specifically mentions that he believes you and the Colonel to be innocent, yet does not include himself. He also mentions-

“Mayhaps our counting skills aren’t as good as we assume them to be.”

Could this be a hint that we have missed a guest? Perhaps confused them with another.

So during Jake’s idol scene..

I noticed the last thing he says to MC, if romanced, is “At least I got to see you one last time” and it sounded super familiar.

I Googled it, and it turns out that’s what the Beast/Adam says to Belle as he’s dying from being stabbed/shot in the back, after killing his opponent. I’m pretty sure Jake even cups your face like the Beast does as he’s dying in your lap.

Like straight up, they reference BatB, and I LOVE it. It makes sense too! Jake is kind of anti-social, an outcast, wouldn’t do anything for anyone anymore, and you bring out a kind, funny, sweet guy who’d do anything for the people he cares about.

Needless to say I’m in love with @playchoices and my beautiful selfless trash pilot boyfriend.

The Layout of Miranda’s House

For a few months now I’ve been chipping away at this for the purposes of my own fic-writing and general curiosity, and I thought others might be interested in it as a reference. It’s far from scientific–my ability to discern spatial relationships is in general highly suspect–but it’s at least a general idea.

(Click on the image to enlarge it.)

A few notes/observations:

  • The layout of the house does not, in fact, make a whole lot of sense. This is the only way I could get it to even vaguely spatially work out, however, so I’ll assume it was a product of necessity/a Jacobean sense of “throw it all together and call it a day.”
  • Furniture does move around somewhat–by season four the narrow table between the kitchen and dining room is gone, for example, and several times in season one Miranda moves furniture out to the porch that doesn’t appear to live there permanently. In addition, the chairs move around basically every episode, so I drew in the ones that happened to be there in the scene(s) I was using for reference for that particular room, and just left it at that.
  • Relatedly: in case it isn’t obvious, the diamond shapes are chairs.
  • I believe the whole house is on one level–based on the height of the ceilings and what the roof looks like from the outside, it doesn’t look like there’s even an attic. She might have a cellar that would be accessed from outside, but we just don’t see enough of the outside of the house to know. (ETA: @secretagentofcaos and @sidewaystime have pointed out that we do in fact see enough of the house to know, and that there is an outdoor-access cellar visible in season four, when Billy gets the Skeleton Island map.)
  • This house is big, by the standards of eighteenth-century farm houses—most average people (lower- to middle-class) in England and English colonies lived a family to a single-room, maybe two-room house (often with a loft or attic). This would be more on the scale of an upper-class plantation house, and not something James could have built by himself, so it’s my firm headcanon that it belonged to an English planter who was killed/driven off the island in the Rosario raids, which James and Miranda then bought/took over when they arrived on New Providence.
  • (That said, it should be noted that my frame of reference for this is the North American colonies at the time, and it’s possible British Caribbean architecture developed differently–certainly the house shows its geographic influences in other ways, like the fact that only one room has a direct source of heat.)
  • I also headcanon that they found it with most of the furniture still inside it, and that that’s more or less the furniture we see in it in the show. This explains away a few oddities—the three beds, while a hell of a metaphor, don’t make much sense for a house that holds at most two people—and also sates some of my own curiosity over the style of furniture inside it. I won’t go into too much mind-numbing detail here, but most if not all of Miranda’s furniture is a sort of elegant folk style—well-made and often nicely decorated, but not following either the actual fashionable designs of the time, or the show’s version of the fashionable designs of the time. Clearly they can get more fashionable furniture on the island (see Eleanor’s office, Flint’s cabin, etc.), so I find it really interesting that James doesn’t bring Miranda this style of furniture—the only pieces that I can identify as more fashionable are the little desk tucked in the corner of the dining room, which has a certain 17th century Baroque sensibility to it, and the spinet.
  • Incidentally: yes, the musical instrument Miranda has is a spinet. (To run briefly down the list of options: pianos weren’t invented yet,* harpsichords are much bigger, and both clavichords and virginals are boxier.) Spinets were very popular and fashionable in the early 1700s—they’re basically a miniature harpsichord, working in the same way and sounding very similar. (*ETA: as @bean-about-townn quite rightly points out, pianos had in fact been invented by 1715, they were just extremely rare and far from being popularized yet.)
  • Most of the walls are whitewashed, but the walls of Miranda’s room are made of mats of what looks like woven reeds, attached to a frame, almost like her room was originally a porch of some kind.
  • There are just so many great little details in this set: I should really make a whole different post about it, but I love the pictures on the walls; I love the flowers in Miranda’s room; I love the general clutter of pots and jars and books laying around. I’m so interested in the life Miranda led here, and I think you get at least some clues to it in this house.

I hope people find this helpful! I welcome questions, comments, corrections, and general thoughts.
