“Bucky wants to talk to you.”

You know that the earth never stops moving; it’s constantly in motion. Constantly making its trip around the sun. But the moment Steve says Bucky’s name, you swear that everything comes to a standstill. It’s the only way to explain how everything around you becomes muted. How you’re seeing Steve as if he were standing on the opposing side of a tunnel and how the pressure of Sam’s arm on your shoulder vanishes.

Over the past twenty-two days, you’ve convinced yourself that the story of you and Bucky was not meant to be. In your mind, he left and closed the door on the potential of there ever being an ending where you and him were together.

Seriously though, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy conveys “the universe fundamentally does not care about you” better than just about any cosmic-horror story I’ve ever seen.

Its whole theme is, “the default state of life is a parade of ridiculous out-of-left-field nonsense and disaster and beauty which does not care about your personal virtue” and it can embrace and celebrate the weirdness without getting bogged down in overwrought elder pantheons.

And it’s packed with non-sequiturs and shaggy-dog stories and rambling detours but they’re all in service of that message, and the story’s just gleefully having fun with concepts like an immortal alien who’s determined to insult everyone in the galaxy to their face in alphabetical order.

Basically, the Hitchhiker’s Guide is the guy on the right:

From Dan’s Rush AMA
  • He’d like to possibly cover Closer to the Heart by Rush in the future
  • His favorite concert of Rush’s he’s seen (out of 11) is the R30 tour in 2004
  • His favorite thing he’s seen them play live is Xanadu
  • He doesn’t plan on trying to start playing an instrument (aside from the bass which he has said he’s mediocre at) because the band he’s got now has such awesome musicians that he wants to focus on being the best vocalist he can be
  • His favorite Skyhill song is Run with the Hunted, and his least favorite is Only One
  • His favorite Rush song to play on the bass is Fountain of Lameneth (but it’s hard)
  • It’s pretty likely that there will eventually be a new Skyhill song or album
  • He first saw Rush in 1994 in NJ at the Brendan Byrne Arena. He’s seen them on every tour since.
  • He’s hoping that next year they’ll be able to tour in the UK, and he’d like to be able to tour in Australia too at some point
  • What influenced him most from Rush is their chord choices, their worth ethic, and their integrity.
  • If he could perform vocals on one song with Rush, it would probably be Time Stand Still
  • His best Rush-related experience was zoning out by himself as a kid and letting their music take his imagination places
  • His favorite Rush albums are A Farewell to Kings, Hemispheres, Caress of Steel, and 2112. His least favorite (though he still loves them!) are Hold your Fire, Counterparts, and Snakes and Arrows
  • The most direct way that Rush has affected him is that they helped inspire him to commit his life to music.
  • His top 3 songs are Xanadu, Hemispheres, and Fountain of Lameneth
  • He started listening to Rush at 13 and he became obsessed with them. He sang their music to himself all day during school.
  • When asked how many Rush shirts he has, his answer was “Too many!!”
  • A Farewell to Kings is his alltime favorite Rush album
  • What initially caused him to enjoy Rush was that it was an awesome sound that he’d never really heard before and lyrics that appealed to his nerdy Lord of the Rings loving self.
  • His favorite >10 minute Rush track is (possibly) Circumstances
  • “ I’m more Jewish by culture than by religion. I certainly believe that there’s a lot to life and the universe that we don’t understand, and I respect anyone who finds their answers in religion, but it’s never been a big part of my life personally.”
  •  His favorite Rush show to watch is one from Rio
  • The song he’s most proud of is 6969 because it’s a comedy prog song, which is something he’s always wanted to do.
  • His favorite part of 2112 is the overture
  • Hemispheres will always remind him of his freshman year of high school. He listened to it constantly.
  • Both him and Arin write the lyrics to Starbomb songs
  • He feels an immediate kinship with other Rush fans. “We’re like a world-wide secret club!”
  • The rush album he feels is most underrated is Presto
  • The first Rush song he listened to was Roll the Bones
  • He would be interested in giving talks about music/comedy/career stuff at colleges or high schools if there was an audience for it.
  • He got into Rush at age 12 because the guy that worked at his local comic book shop (named Keith) introduced him to them. “God bless that man.” Before he discovered them he listened to a lot of Def Leppard and Nirvana
  • Q:  if you were to start your career again today, where would you start? Youtube / twitch / podcasts?
A:  I don’t think I’d do anything differently because even the years of “failure” taught me a lot and allowed me time to improve. Once that spotlight is on you, you’d better be ready for it. I’d say start in the medium that inspires you individually the most and work as hard as you can on it from there.
  • Q:  how do you think the future of NSP has changed now that you guys have topped the motherfucking charts with Under the Covers?? You guys fucking rule and I’m so happy for you and your multitudes of success!
A:  Thank you! We were psyched that our recent albums have charted so well, but I don’t think we’ll do anything differently. We’ll just keep doing what feels right to the best of our ability!
  • 6969 came together quickly when writing it. The video only took so long because it was such a huge jump in ambition and it has a learning curve. “If we do something like that again, things should go a lot more smoothly!”
  • The Pass has helped him through some tough times.
  • (I believe) that the lyrics he’d get as a tattoo are “ All of us get lost in the darkness Dreamers learn to steer by the stars All of us do time in the gutter Dreamers learn to look at the cars!”
  • Q: What would you say is the best dish at Olive Garden?
A: The dish where you get up, walk across the street, and eat at Outback Steakhouse
  • He meditates in silence before a show because he’d get overhyped if he listened to music.
  • Doesn’t have a favorite member of Rush, “it’s an equilateral triangle”
  • Says Moving Pictures is usually a safe bet to start off with introducing someone to Rush
  • He picked Madrigal and Subdivisions for the first UTC because he loves them and they’re easy to sing. “I don’t know if I could hit some of those crazy high notes Geddy rocked in the 70s”
  • He thinks Witch Hunt would be a very good song to cover.  Such a great song and so relevant right now! “Quick to judge, quick to anger, slow to understand”
  • His favorite song to try and fail at on bass is YYZ
  • “ I don’t think there’s any conscious decision to have Rush influence my music, but I’ve spent so many thousands of hours listening to them, it’s inevitable that it just comes out naturally”
  •  His favorite album to work on in his career is what he’s doing now (UTC2 and Cool Patrol) because “we’ve grown so much and finally have a full band!”
  • He doesn’t mind when fans are super nervous to meet him. He was nervous when he met Rush, too, “so it’s just the circle of life!”
  • He chose bass because it was different and fun to find submelodies.
  • Q:  Hey Dan! I’m looking forward to Under the Covers 2. I started writing comedy music and NSP is one of my main inspirations. What do you wish you knew about writing comedy music earlier on in your career?
A:  Nothing in particular really. You learn and you go and there’s no substitute for just doing something over a long period of time. Of course there are things I would change about our early work, but it was the best we could do at the time so I have to be cool with it.
  • “I listened to so much of them [Rush] growing up that it’s in my blood and unconsciously shapes the way I approach music”
  • His second favorite album flops between Hemispheres, Caress of Steel, and 2112 on any given day
  • His favorite story/message told in a Rush song→ Story is Fountain of Lameneth because it’s a beautiful summary of life. Message is Spirit of Radio where they talk about the importance of integrity in art.
  • His biggest influences are Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Genesis, Nirvana, Spacehog, and Gentle Giant (to name a few)
  • He does his best on his Rickenbacker bass but it’s just for fun. “My band already has a bass player that’s better than I’ll ever be!”

“Thanks everyone! I have to go see my family now otherwise I’d stay longer. Sorry I couldn’t get to everyone’s questions but I had a lot of fun. I’d be happy to do this again in the future!
You being fans of mine means the world to me and I promise to keep making comedy and music for a long time! Thanks to you, the moderators who set this up, and of course Rush for being an awesome and inspirational force!”

In honour of BC’s birthday, here’s a number of reasons why he’s one of the greats.

Here is someone who has given us access to so many stories, films and worlds that are just as rich and fascinating as the next.

Here is a man who cares about his work, who does his research and is willing to go that extra step to to make sure character is as believable as possible.

He is someone who feels deeply, who LISTENS to people.

He is someone who cares about diversity, who doesn’t like to see anyone cast aside or de-valued because of their race, religion, gender or sexuality.

Here is a man who doesn’t give a fuck about gender norms, and is not ashamed to cry in front of people.

Here is someone who is so INCREDIBLY beautiful, almost ageless, but finds it weird that people are as attracted to him as they are.

Here is someone who is very much aware of his own mortality, and recognises that he is human like the rest of us.

Here is an actor who doesn’t give in to the glitz, glamour and superficiality of Hollywood fame, and stays very much grounded.

Here is someone who is not obsessed with money, but is interested in helping others who have no voice, who are starving and who need help when no one else is giving it to them.

Here is someone who uses his fame to help raise money for refugees, and poor families who have nothing.

Here is a man who loves his family more than anything, is super protective of them and shields them away from the nasty tabloids, paparazzi and other dangers that might come to them.

He is someone who has moved me beyond words. He has brought so much joy, education and passion into my life, that I simply cannot thank him enough. I am very proud to call myself a fan and he deserves all the happiness in the world. 😘😊❤️💖❤️ 🎂

It's You (Peter Parker Imagine)

Disclaimer: this is my very first Peter Parker imagine so please be kind 😬

Request: reader is in the decathalons and has a crush on Peter. She doesn’t think he feels the same way so she says yes when someone else asks her to Homecoming. But little does she know, he actually does like her. (Includes jealous Peter!)

I look up at the clock and sigh as the minute hand reads 15 minutes. This is the fourth time that Peter has been late to our decathalons meeting. Nationals are just around the corner and he keeps doing this. My hope of him asking me to Homecoming fades away each time he pulls the same stunt.

A repetitive tapping of a pen brings me back. It stops. “Okay, we’re going to start this meeting without Peter”, Liz says, annoyed. We go over a few things to further prep us then we begin practicing.

As our responses quicken, the remaining member of our team finally shows up. “I’m so sorry I’m late”, he says out of breath.

“Peter”, our teacher calls. He pulls him over to the side, most likely to lecture him. My attention shifts from Liz to Peter. I watch his face instantly fill with guilt.

“If he did want to be a part of this team, he’d show up on time”, Flash mutters. I look away from Peter. “Guys like that will keep on disappointing.”

I try to keep myself from getting worked up by Flash’s words. I would defend Peter but Flash has a point. I let out a sigh. Homecoming with him is most likely out of the question. Heck, it isn’t even a possibility.

“It’s just the Stark internship it’s-”

“Honestly Parker, who are you kidding? Cut the lies”, Flash says angrily.

My eyes go back to Peter and his lips just shut. No words. I wish he could come up with a better excuse, or to be honest about where he is. I look down.

“Hey, Y/N. Homecoming is coming up after nationals and I’ve been thinking..would you like to go with me?” Flash asks. His tone soft now.

It’s not like Peter has a crush on me anyway. I look up and smile. “Yeah, sure.”

“Guys, we have to focus, okay?” Liz reminds me and Flash.

“Yes Liz. I apologize, I’m just really excited about Homecoming!” Flash beams.

“Alright Flash.” Liz shakes her head and continues on with the questions.

We finish and our teacher lets us know that Peter is out. He really does keep on disappointing.

“He already quit band and-” Michelle gets cut off by Peter’s death stare.

The other members make their way out. Flash comes up to me with a huge smile on his face. “Today is the best day of my life! I’m going to Homecoming with you and now I’m taking Peter’s place! Can life get any better than this?” He hugs me and I catch Peter’s expression in this very moment.

He looks heartbroken. Flash makes his way out and Peter’s eyes follow him. His brows furrowed.

“Sorry to hear that you won’t be a part of the decathalons anymore”, I say. His head snaps in my direction, anger no longer present. “It’s a shame, I liked having you on the team.”

He gives me a small smile. “Nice to know at least one person enjoyed having me around. Seems like everyone else hates my guts.” His head hangs low.

“Even Ned?”

He sighs. “Even Ned.”

“I mean, you were given a huge opportunity so it doesn’t hurt to take it on. I get it. You got to do you. I wish you all the best with it.” I grab my bag and head out.

“Y/N, wait!”

He takes a few seconds to continue. “Are you actually going to Homecoming with..Flash?” I question the expression he makes as he says Flash’s name.

“I never thought I would, but yeah.”

“Are you sure? I mean, it’s Flash we’re talking about.”

“I’m sure, it’s not like anyone else was going to ask me so…” I instantly regret letting that slip.

Silence comes forth. I look at him and it seems as though he’s choked up.

“Are you okay Peter?”

“Yeah. I just-I got to go”, he says and books it. And just like that, he’s gone.

I try to get Peter off my mind but I’m reminded just before lunch. As I make my way to my locker I see him, still with that expression he had earlier. I unlock my locker to put my books away and grab my lunch but something stops me in my tracks.

I overhear Peter talk – well more like rant to Ned. “I can’t believe Y/N is going to Homecoming with Flash! Of all people! Does he even like her? Ugh, I swear if he hurts her or treats her wrong I will-” I turn my head slightly in their direction and freeze as I see that water has now formed in Peter’s eyes.

“Just take a deep breath. Maybe she’ll change her mind. Or maybe you should’ve asked her when you had the chance, I don’t know.” Ned shrugs.

Peter lets out a long sigh. The tears still on the rims of his sad puppy eyes.

“Look, I know it sucks but just remember I’m here for you”, Ned says as he places a hand on Peter’s shoulder.

Peter closes his eyes, takes a deep breath in then releases it. “Thanks Ned. I don’t know what I’d do without you.”

I turn my head back and stand at my locker in shock. Eyes wide, jaw dropped. Good thing no one can see my face right now. I take a few seconds to grasp whether or not that actually happened. Peter likes me. Peter. Likes. Me.

Dean is aging every day and Castiel can see it in the fine lines when he smiles, the way his eyes crinkle. Every day there’s another line forming and Castiel can see it. Every single one of them. He sees the first small gray hair that starts at the root of Dean’s hair. He doesn’t think Dean can see it, at first, but after a week Dean begins parting his hair differently. Castiel cannot see the single gray strand anymore, until there is a small bundle of them.

With each waking day, Dean’s hands begin to ache in the places that strains when he holds his gun. He pretends not to care, but Castiel knows. He can read Dean like a book he’s read a million times.

Castiel stays the same. Humanity caught up with his vessel in the short while he had no grace, yet now he seems to have stopped aging once again. He stays young while Dean’s knees ache. Small touches let Castiel ease the pain, and Dean catches on to what he is doing. He says thank you with his eyes, that still sparkle a beautiful sage color. The love Castiel has for Dean never dulls, but only deepens the more Dean let’s him heal.

It seems, eventually Dean wants to skip out on hunts. His bones throb too badly, or he’s catching yet another cold. Sam notices, too, but says nothing. It’s inevitable. Dean is much older than Sam is, and not as nimble anymore. Castiel always stays with Dean. Just in case.

Sometimes Dean will let Castiel sit with him while he watches the latest game on television. Usually Dean will fall asleep by halftime, never able to sleep well at night. His head always ends up on Castiel’s shoulder, beer slipping through his fingers that once held it tightly. Castiel puts the beer on the coffee table, and maneuvers to lean back enough for Dean’s head to rest comfortably on his chest. Castiel has no heartbeat for Dean to listen to, but placing a firm hand on Dean’s shoulder lets him pulse power through Dean’s veins, easing any ache or pain. Dean always sleeps better this way. It seems to give him a little bit more life that way.

Dean does not like it when Castiel heals him of his aches. “They let me know I’m still human, Cas. Just let me ache. That’s why they invented Advil.” Dean will say, giving Castiel a glare. But Dean always comes to Castiel at night, or comes to get him when the Advil won’t help his restless leg syndrome, or ease the throb of his nerves enough to get a few un-solid hours. Castiel is always more than willing to place that firm hand on Dean, watching him sleep peacefully like he deserves after a lifetime of restless nights.

“Let me heal you, Dean.” Castiel demands, watching the man he loves practically decay on the sofa. Dean had insisted on going to a hunt with Sam, and had sprained a few bones. They were not healing, and it had been over a week. “Please.” Castiel begs.

“No, Cas.” Dean repeats over and over. Castiel doesn’t care. Dean isn’t quick enough to dodge Castiel’s hand as if clamps around his ankle. It’s healed within seconds, and Dean is angry at him once more. “Damnit Cas!” Dean jerks his leg away, and glares red hot towards Castiel.

“I don’t understand, Dean!” Castiel barks back at him, “You can go on hunts all you want if you just let me heal you when you come back.”

“That’s not how life is supposed to work, Cas. I go on a hunt and I get hurt, if I die from it then that’s how it needs to be! No more loopholes, Cas. I’m gettin’ old, I know it, you know it, Sam knows it. Shit happens, and nature takes its course. It can’t do that if you keep interrupting it!”

“It sounds as though you want to die,” Castiel says dully, and blunt.

“Maybe I do.” Dean says quietly, hardly shocking Castiel. “I’ve lived a long life, saved a lot of people and then some. I’m alright with it.”

Castiel can’t cry, but if he could then he would be sobbing. He can feel it inside, how sad he is. “Dean, I’m not alright with it. My whole purpose of being is because of you. Every day before you, I simply waited for the day. And every day after, I was living for you and fighting for you. There was never a moment I was doing something that wasn’t for you in some way. If you’re gone, what am I supposed to live for?”

“Live for Sammy, Cas. He needs someone, too, you know.”

“Dean, as soon as you’re gone Sam is going to go back to a normal life. And you know that.”

Dean shakes his head, “I don’t want you to interfere anymore, Cas.”

Castiel nods a final nod, and says nothing the nights he still eases Dean’s pains when Dean calls for him. The days go by quickly, as do the seasons. He is worse in the winter, and soon he hardly moves from his worn spot on the sofa.

Castiel leaves Sam with him a single day, saying they need him briefly in Heaven. Dean smiles at him and says he’s happy Cas is off doing angelic things for once. Castiel smiles back and Sam nods. He knows Castiel’s plan.

Castiel comes back over a day later, and Dean is asleep in his bed. When Castiel enters, Dean stirs and reaches for him. He must be hurting again. Castiel gets down to his briefs and slides in bed with Dean, the single brush of skin easing all of Dean’s pains. He relaxes entirely against Castiel. Dean feels very hot, and clammy.

“Are you sick again?” Castiel asks worriedly.

“Yeah,” Dean grunts. “I went out for a drive and got caught in the rain. I think it’s the flu,” Dean grumbles. Castiel brushes a soft hand over his forehead and dulls the fever. “Thanks,” Dean says softly. Castiel is thrown off by the acceptance but says nothing. Dean begins talking. He’s somewhere between sleep, stuck in a limbo. “I am gettin’ scared, every day.” He admits in the quiet air of the bedroom. “Once my light goes out, that’s it. No more chances like I’m used to.”

Castiel interrupts softly. “I could give you another, Dean. We can age together, this next time. If you let me.” There’s a pleading tone in Castiel’s voice that Dean can recognize.

“No, Cas. I need to be a man about this.” Dean grumbles, head rolling to rest on Castiel’s pale chest. “I’m just scared of where I’m going. I always thought death would be easy, that I’d die out on a hunt. It’d be quick, maybe not painless, but I thought it would happen so fast the fear wouldn’t set in. But dying of old age? Slow like this? Every day, man. I can feel it. I’m gettin’ closer. Every time I’m sick it’s like death is just looming, beggin’ me to go to sleep so it can take me. It gives me time to think about it, and the fear gets bad. I hate bein’ scared. I’m scared I’m goin’ to hell, or purgatory again. Or get stuck in the void like Kevin did. I wanna go to Heaven, and be with Bobby and Ellen and Jo.” Castiel faintly realizes Dean is crying silently, tears pooling beneath Dean’s cheek.

“In Heaven,” Castiel begins. “I talked to some of my superiors.” Dean ‘mm-hmms’, quietly. “They would not take my grace, so my age would catch up. But I reserved you a spot, right where you want to be. And I will escort you myself. Not a reaper, or a demon. Me, and I will hide nothing from you. I will hold your hand the whole way.” The love Castiel has for this man is swelling hugely in his vacant chest, and if Castiel could cry he would cry for love.

Dean’s fingers skim past Castiel’s chest to grab his hand. The hold is limp, and weak. Castiel’s worry is at its highest, and he feels the desperate need to go yell for Sam.

Somehow, Sam senses Castiel’s desperation. He barges into the room, eyes wide with worry. Castiel and Sam’s eyes meet and the words don’t need to be spoken.

“Dean?” Sam asks, walking to his brother. Dean let’s out a small moan of acknowledgement, and faintly tells Sam he loves him. The grip on Castiel’s hand is slightly stronger when Dean finds the energy to kiss Castiel’s chest, the words unspoken but there. Castiel wraps fingers through Dean’s damp hair and holds him close.

Sam is crying silent tears and holds back a sob by biting his fist.

Dean goes quietly, in his sleep. Castiel slips from underneath him and makes sure to tuck him in as he goes to console Sam, who has aged as well, but is still young and healthy. Death won’t take him as quickly if he begins to settle down. Castiel makes sure to tell him this.

Castiel explains his plan to Sam over once more. He’s going to lead Dean to Heaven himself. He’s going to be with Bobby and Ellen and Jo. Just like he wanted. Castiel will be there, too, and he will be down whenever Sam prays to him. And if Sam wants, Castiel will walk him through the veil, too.

Castiel’s conversation is interrupted by Dean. A Dean Sam cannot see, but yet the same Dean he knows. Dean has a worried look in his eye, watching Sam cry silent tears. Castiel tells Sam it’s time, and gives him a large hug goodbye. He pleads for Sam to go find a woman, and settle down and have kids. Go back to Stanford. It’s possible. Sam promises he will try, and that he will pray often.

Castiel takes Dean’s hand and vanishes. The veil is shadows and daylight mixing together, like oil and water. Mixing but never becoming one. Dean holds Castiel’s hand tightly, fingers laced. Castiel steps through a very certain strand of daylight. Dean covers his eyes when it becomes too bright.

They’re at Bobby’s. It takes Dean a single moment to blink and look around. Ellen comes from the kitchen, stirring something in a pot.

“Heya, boys. Just in time for supper.”

That night, Castiel holds Dean close. Dean let’s him. After all, they’re stuck in a piece of Heaven where no one dies, aches, or bleeds. Despite Dean’s healthy bones, Castiel still caresses Dean’s body just like before.

Request: My Whole World

Request: Can you write one where the reader is being really petty towards dean for something he did and he gets fed up in a cute and fluffy way please.

Request: Could you write one where the reader is taking a nap and she’s pregnant and wakes up to dean talking to her stomach and it’s just all fluffy and cute

Word Count: 1,673

Thank you! I hope it’s what you were hoping for. Lots of love<3

“So anyway,” You continue, dipping the spoon back into the ice-cream carton and digging out another generous mouthful, “I get into the kitchen and he’s sat there, just munching on the last cookie. I’m not even kidding. I’d been craving them for weeks and I’d finally managed to convince his protective, overbearing ass to take me out to pick up the ingredients and he eats the last bloody one.”

Sam eyes the carton, balanced precariously atop your growing bump, and smiles a little, “He can be rude sometimes.”

“I know, right? And he acts like it’s nothing, like I haven’t been dragging his spawn around inside me for… what, seven and a half months?” You sigh dramatically, “All I wanted was a cookie and now all I have is…”

“Ice-cream?” Sam quirks an eyebrow with an amused smile, but you just shoot him a sardonic glare.

“It isn’t what I want. And you and Dean are so close, this might as well be your spawn too, so watch what you’re saying.” You manage to get the spoonful of ice-cream into your mouth just in time to point the spoon at him accusatorially, but he only laughs at you – it’s been like this for nearly three days now, considering that you’re not exactly on speaking terms with Dean unless it involves backrubs or food.

“I’m sure he feels awful.” Sam attempts, picking up another plate and setting it in the warm, soapy water of the sink – baby-proofing efforts are fully underway in the bunker, which, according to Sam, means turning the place into a clean, half-decent child-rearing environment. The brothers are so concerned with making it completely perfect and safe that you’ve barely had anything to do with it, which you’re perfectly fine with at this point.

“No, he doesn’t. He feels bad that I’m grumpy with him. But he enjoyed that cookie, and I know it.” You narrow your eyes, “They were damn good cookies.”

Sam turns to you after a moment, “Y/N, can I say something without you… spontaneously bursting into tears or throwing your ice-cream at me?”

“Probably not, but go on.” You nod, scraping out the bottom of the carton and giving him a roguish grin. He offers a small, though hesitant, smile, drying his hands off on the towel draped over the oven door handle.

“I think you’re scared. About Dean, about the baby, about everything.” He watches warily as your eyes narrow, and you sit forward slowly, a protective hand moving over your stomach as if his words could somehow hurt the tiny, helpless infant inside, “And I can’t help but wonder if you’re finding excuses to keep him at arm’s length so that if something does go wrong, he doesn’t blame himself. So he isn’t so hurt by losing one or both of you.”

“Sam-“ You try, but he has a way of reading you that not even Dean has managed to grasp – he really is your best friend, your brother in all but blood – in the least weird way, considering you’ve been with his biological brother for years.

“You’re going to be fine, Y/N. All three of you.”

“All four of us.” You correct, and he gives a conceding nod.

“All four of us. We have heaven and hell on our side, Y/N. Trust me on this one, alright?” He moves half a step closer to you, the smile on his face reminding you that he’s as excited as you are for this, and has mulled over every single one of the same possibilities, “We’ve gotten through everything else. This is just another adventure.”

You let the silence hang between you for a few moments, before hauling yourself to your feet and fixing him with a look that lets him know that he’s absolutely right, but that you’re less than impressed about it.

“One of these days, Sam Winchester, you’re going to tell someone a home truth that they really hate and you’re going to get punched.” You tell him, though the smile on your face instantly negates any kind of seriousness in your statement, “And fair warning, I am going to laugh.”

“Fair point.” He smiles, stepping forward to take your shoulders in his hands and press an affectionate kiss to your brow, “Go on, Y/N, get some rest. I’m almost done here.”

He can tell how obnoxiously tired you are, and even how hard you’re trying to hide it. It’s been a difficult transition, and one you’re still struggling with, going from reckless, active hunter, to careful, nurturing mother – though it’s one you’re more than willing to make.

“Alright, Sammy. I’m going for a nap.”

Naps have recently – even over the last three or four weeks – have become your primary source of sustenance. Depending on the hours that Winchester junior decides to make your bladder/ribs/kidneys into his or her personal trampoline, you’re not getting as much sleep as night as you perhaps should be, which means that the couch is your new favourite spot – these days, if either brother or anyone else needs to get a hold of you, that’s usually where you can be found.

When you find that the something pulling you from the warmth and comfort of sleep is Dean’s voice, you’re less than surprised – for a man who pretty much makes a living out of being sneaky and stealthy, he doesn’t half know how to make a racket (and then some) when he wants to. What you are more surprised to find is that, from where his voice is, he’s sat on the floor in front of you with his face up close to your shirt – more specifically, to your stomach.

“… And she’s stubborn; don’t ever try to get in her way. I’ve known her forever, and I’ve only actively disagreed with her once or twice. She’s clever, too. Probably too much for her own good. And beautiful – hopefully you’ll look a lot like her, but not too much, because then you’ll be charming the living shit out of everything in a five mile radius from the minute you’re born and none of us will stand a chance.”

He’s speaking in a low, soft tone that is difficult for even you to pick up at this point, but what you do feel is his hand lightly ghosting over your stomach – at first, you thought it was a bit odd, the way he’d like to randomly feel you up, but it eventually became more endearing than anything else.

“Another thing you’ve gotta watch out for with your mom is that she’s funny. Too funny, sometimes, like when we’re in a life or death situation and she comes out with a comment and man, does it piss off whoever – or whatever – we’re hunting and it distracts us all but it just makes the whole thing more bearable. But you’ll never know any of that, anyway, if we get our way. You deserve better, and I’ll be damned if that’s not what you’re going to get. Then again, I’m probably damned anyway.”

He sighs softly, and after a moment, you feel his nose up against your skin.

“God, kid, I hope I don’t screw you up. I hope you get the childhood I couldn’t. I’d never be able to live with myself if you were scared for one minute of it.” He’s choked up, you realise, your heart skipping a beat and stomach lurching, “Kid, you are so, so loved. Whether your mom is pissed off at me or not; whether you know it or not, you two are the best thing that ever happened to me, and I promise you, you’re not going to forget that. And neither am I.”

There’s a long moment, and he takes a deep breath, obviously trying to collect himself – you’ve heard him speaking to the bump before, of course. He’s played music to it, cranking the volume up in the Impala as soon as he’d read in one of those books that the baby had hearing organs (‘Have to get their tastes refined early, Y/N. I refuse to have a child who can’t appreciate a bit of rock.’) and belting out lyrics even when it was just the two of you – but never like this. Never with that… vulnerability; never with that kind of feeling.

You prise one eye open, watching him for a few moments, “You really just can’t let me be mad at you for more than three and a half minutes, can you?”

His head snaps up and his eyes widen as he realises that you’re awake, and have been the whole time – his eyes are still shining and slightly glazed, but he plays it off by clearing his throat and giving you a small smile.

“So you’re not mad at me anymore? I can’t keep up.” He says softly, searching for your hand, and, once he finds it, he twines his fingers with yours sweetly.

“I was never mad at you. Well… not once the damage had been done.” You concede with a smile, slowly pushing yourself into a sitting position so he can come and sit beside you, one arm around your shoulders and the other hand still laced with yours.

“I’m sorry about the cookie. I’ll go and find more, Sam and I were thinking about-“

“It’s not about the damn cookie, Dean. Not even a little.” You interrupt, pulling your hand from his to hold his palm to your stomach, “I… was being dumb. And stupid. And rude. And it was uncalled for, whether I was being funny and petty over a cookie or not.”

“Is that an apology?” His eyes widen, but a grin spreads over his face as the baby kicks against his hand. You quirk an eyebrow.

“Don’t push your luck. And whether I’m mad or not, you owe me cookies.”

He doesn’t hesitate to nod, leaning down and pressing a soft kiss to your lips, “Anything you want. Everything you want. I don’t care, Y/N. You – both of you – you’re my world now.”

so why is autism speaks bad? I'm confused

There are a number of reasons why we feel that Autism Speaks isn’t good for Autistics. I’m going to give you some bullet points, and then link to a couple of resources both from our website and from the community.

  • There are no Autistics on their board of directors, or currently in any of their major decision making bodies. (While they did have Robison on their Science advisory, he left when they released a pretty bad press release after years of them being unresponsive to his feedback.) An organization that fails to include the people who they are “serving” in meaningful leadership positions is unacceptable. NAACP run by white people wouldn’t be alright; NOW run by men would be unacceptable; and an Autism organization without autistic leadership is not okay.
  • Their Budget. While they have a high transparency score, they have a VERY low financial score on Charity Navigator, and for good reason. Only 4% of their funding goes towards supporting families via things like service grants. 21% is advertising and 22% is fundraising, and 5% is administrative costs. (44% is research, but we’ll get to that in a minute.) The executive pay- several over $400,000/year- is pretty high for an autism non-profit.
  • The research doesn’t help living autistics. Very very little of the research Autism Speaks funds actually goes to quality of life. Instead the majority goes towards causation and prevention. As a lot of that research is genetic in nature, prevention means research into selective abortion of fetuses with markers for autism. Not only does this not help autistics of any age, it encourages the idea that it’s better to not exist than to RISK being disabled (and in particular, autistic).
  • They promote stigma. Remember that “awareness” and advertising budget? A lot of that money goes towards things like Autism Everyday, a video in which a parent talks about wanting to complete a murder suicide with her autistic daughter and deciding against it because she has a “normal” child as well.* They also funded a video called I Am Autism (Transcript) in which a menacing voice claiming to be autism brags about “tearing families apart” at great detail. And remember what I mentioned about Robison resigning from his involvement with them? The final straw for him was an open letter written by Suzanne Wright, one of Autism Speak’s founders, to open a national Autism policy summit (which co-incidentally didn’t involve Autistics) in which Autistics are equated to being missing and being a crisis comparable to needing military intervention. These are just major examples; this tone of horror, tragedy, destruction, and crisis permeates Autism Speaks’ public message. Even in their more positive campaigns, it is an underlying message that being an autistic is not a good thing.
  • They take money out of local communities. Many people attend walks thinking that the money raised will help support their local autism centers or families. Very little of this money if any comes back to the community it came from.

We at ASAN put out a flyer a few years ago with a short version of this information. It’s slightly out of date, particularly when it comes to the alternate places to donate list, but the points still stand. More recently, we put out a Joint letter with a number of other organizations going into more detail about why we at ASAN as an organization- and our co-signers as well- object to Autism Speaks.

This is Autism Flash blog response from the Autistic Community in response to Suzanne Wright’s Call to Action letter. ASAN didn’t run this, though we are supportive of it.

A lot of people wrote or made video responses to the I Am Autism video. As far as I know, though, there wasn’t an especially organized response. You can still see a lot of them by searching google for “I Am Autism Response.”

Check out boycottautismspeaks, an independent collaboration between autistics and autism positive parents. (They are also on Facebook!

A number of autistics have written posts talking about why they don’t like or support Autism Speaks. Some might be out of date on some of the details, but still current on the major issues.

* In Autism Everyday, she also talks about her daughter being non-communicative while her daughter comes up to her multiple times throughout asking if her mommy is okay.

i-understand-mon-cher  asked:

Please name or expand on Danny's weaknesses and flaws as a character ^^ And if you choose to do so, I thank you!

You mean, the flaws that don’t leave me shouting “ooc” or “bad writing”? This is a difficult task you have bestowed upon me, but I shall do my best.

This one’s mostly exclusive to s1 because Danny does grow and develop, but in early episodes, Danny wants so badly to be part of the popular crowd that he actually stops paying attention to things that are usually important to him. Even a possessed Hair Hornet gets somewhat blown off. “I know I should be concerned, and I will be. Right after the party.” He’s even more focused on this than Tucker is. He’s got the bigger crush on Paulina, he gets more depressed about being left out, and he’ll even hang out with Dash if it means he’ll be considered cool.

Like I said, he grows out of this. Comparing temporarily popular Danny in Attack of the Killer Garage Sale and temporarily popular Danny in Lucky in Love shows that it’s become less important to him, but it’s still something he initially struggled with.

Petty/Holds Grudges:

While Danny’s overall a good-natured kid and won’t stoop as low as a lot of people he has to deal with, when you push the right buttons, Danny’s far from forgiving.

A good example is how he acts toward Johnny in Lucky in Love. The two of them made a deal to work together and get Kitty to go back to Johnny, but Danny’s the one playing more dirty during the actual execution of the plan. He doesn’t pull any punches, and he even destroys the bit of Fenton tech he stole to ride in and out of the ghost zone.

It might be understandable, considering the fact that Johnny targeted Danny’s sister in 13, but during this situation, they’re not enemies. That doesn’t stop Danny from being bitter toward Johnny and enjoying kicking the crap out of him, though.

This side of him especially shows through with Vlad and Dash, who end up Danny victims more than anyone else. He’ll multiple times use his powers to get revenge, beat them down with snark, or even use Fenton tech on them (like shrinking Dash with the Fenton Crammer.)

Overly Suspicious:

This doesn’t usually apply to humans, but Danny does share his parents’ view of ghosts initially. It takes multiple instances of him seeing that ghosts can actually be friendly before he stops throwing the first punch. He assumes Technus is going to try to take over the world, that the Dairy King is going to attack him, and that Desiree is straight up evil when she’s not necessarily being antagonistic toward him.

It’s not all that often that he’s completely wrong, but he did think Wulf was a villain initially. Really, I attribute their friendship more to Wulf being pure and devoted than I do to Danny. Sure, Danny does get better about this post-Public Enemies, but he never stops being at least somewhat suspicious of basically every ghost he meets.

Danny can be a grumpy, grumpy kid. I think we see him angry more than we see him happy in the show. It’s pretty much his automatic response to any negative situation. We never even once see Danny cry. Instead, he just gets mad at whatever situation he’s in.

My Brother’s Keeper, The Fright Before Christmas, Life Lessons. Even if he’s not always necessarily in the wrong, he does get angry more quickly than a lot of other characters. With enough pressure put on him, he’ll even snap at his loved ones and sometimes say unkind things he doesn’t really mean. It’s not like he’s usually out to hurt anyone, but when he’s fed up, he cares a lot less.

Sense of Responsibility:

This is a weakness/flaw because it gets him in trouble a lot. Prisoners of Love and Reign Storm are good examples.

Danny deals with a lot of pressure in his life, but really, few people put as much on him as he does. He has to fight the ghosts. He has to clean the house. He has to get back his dad’s present for his mom. He has to be the one to risk his life fighting Pariah Dark.

Very few of these situations actually are his fault or responsibility in any way, but Danny convinces himself that they are. It’s not even really that he’s willing to do these things even though he doesn’t have to. He fully believes that he doesn’t have a choice. These are things he needs to do. As a result, he ends up putting his life in jeopardy a lot more than necessary, and sometimes over what seem like minor things.

Lack of Self Awareness:

This actually ties into a lot of his other flaws. Danny isn’t always aware that he’s doing something wrong until someone points it out, and even then it sometimes takes multiple conversations for him to really get it. Changing those things can also be a struggle. He has to learn about and deal with situations as they come, because it takes time for him to really find the root of his problems.

Another way this causes issues is his failure to see his good points. He doesn’t realize how strong he is, for one thing, and even when he’s going out of his way to help people, it’s because he thinks it’s what he should do, not that he’s just, y’know…a good person.

In some situations, he’s not confident enough, and in others, he’s too confident. He might think he can handle a certain situation when he can’t, and in other situations he gets too nervous or frustrated with himself to do everything he’s capable of.

His puns are painful. Somebody stop him.

That last one was mostly a joke, but yeah. I won’t say these are all his flaws, because I could’ve easily missed something, but I think this is a good summary. The reason these flaws are good ones is that they’re consistent and he often has to learn from them. No character is prefect, because otherwise they’d be boring, but a good hero is capable of growth.

Flaws that exist solely for a joke or to teach a lesson in exactly one episode are lazy and weak, and I tend to ignore those ones, especially if they go against how the character would normally act (Danny taking his friends for granted or sneaking into the girls locker room, for example). That doesn’t mean he doesn’t have some good, interesting flaws, though.

In Two Meanings

@undergroundsky pointed out to me that the Chapter Title “Two Meanings” and the image of the first page correlate.

The page shows two dandelions growing in what otherwise is a barren place. Dandelions have two contrasting meanings: faithful love, and separation.

That alone is fitting for a chapter in which a marriage ceremony takes place right before what is either a departure, or a major attack on Goat that may very well separate both Kaneki and Touka.

Building on that though, rather than referring to Touka and Kaneki the image and words of contrasting meanings can refer to all of the events of the chapter. As in the presentation Tokyo Ghoul, similiarly themed events tend to be grouped in the same chapter.

I relate to Choromatsu so much. This poor guy unknowingly has such horrible social anxiety and he tries so hard to just “get over it”. Because of this he ends up hurting his self confidence even more to the point he almost just gives up by the end of season one. Granted, he does finally admit he’s no better than his brothers stating “I’m a failure as well, I’ll admit that”(Kamimatsu). But also in this discussion he hesitates to answer Todomatsu wondering if he still wants to work. So while he has admitted that he isn’t any better than them, his hesitation states that he still does want to do something with his life.

At the same time he also admits he’s terrified of the word and hates himself(Dayon Tribe).

“I know! I really want to go back to the outside world and get a job, and be a proper person! But… But it’s just not possible. I can’t keep up anything, I keep trying to look like I’m job hunting but all I’m actually doing is Chorofappsking in my room every day! The only choice a scumbag like me has is to stay here and become a Dayon!”

Choromatsu really seems to have sever social anxiety. Even though technically it is a headcanon, the anime writers really do seem to write him with it unknowingly. So, if Choromatsu has sever, unassisted social anxiety, it makes all the sense in the world why trying to push himself constantly and just “get over it” makes life that much harder on him.

Back when I went to Germany as an exchange student, I didn’t understand that the “fears” I had about going new places alone, talking to new people, or talking one on one with people who weren’t close to me were actually symptoms of social anxiety. I tried to go to Germany-alone-with one year of high school German, thinking it would help me “get over” those “fears”. After seven months of extreme depression and constant anxiety, I came home because I was unable to handle it. That stress also caused me to rupture a disc in my back which I needed surgery for. Thank god I figured out what anxiety was when I got home or else I probably would have been scarred for life, never wanting to attempt to go out of my comfort zone ever again; because the only thing I thought would help didn’t.

Choromatsu does this all the time–attempting to “get over” these “stupid” and “unreasonable” fears. He’s constantly trying to find a job, which is extremely hard when you have social anxiety. Usually you can’t bring yourself to call someone or talk to people; making getting an interview difficult, and in the interview you’re scared you may mess it up. He’s always pushing himself to be “better” than his brothers but knowingly fails at it(Kamimatsu). He’s constantly trying to go out of his comfort zone(Lets Get a Job; Choromatsu Rising; the Letter) and is even forced into unwanted social situations by his brothers when he doesn’t know how to handle it, or can’t handle it(Rental Girlfriends).

In the end, all these attempts to “get over it” just make him more scared of trying to do something with his life, which in turn keeps him locked in a constant cycle that even he recognizes(Dayon Tribe). I don’t believe for a second that Choromatsu doesn’t want to do something with his life; that he’s lying about wanting to find a job; or that he’s lying about not wanting to be a NEET. For him it’s just extraordinarily hard because theres this invisible chasm he keeps falling off of and having to climb out of every. Single. Time. He. Tries.

Anyways, at the end of this detailed headcanon post, I just love Choromatsu and I hope you do too!

sleeping devastatingly handsome

They can’t figure out this fucking curse. Cas is still as a corpse but still breathing, heart still beating, limbs still warm to the touch, but he won’t wake up no matter what they do.

“Fuck this,” Dean says for the upteenth time, shoving another book with another worthless antidote away.

“We’ll find it,” Sam says, turning pages quickly as he scans for more options.

Instead of continuing what feels like a fruitless needle-in-haystack search, Dean stomps off to Cas’s room. Cas looks just like he did last time Dean was in there, laid out flat on his back with his chest rising and falling slowly. He looks peaceful, like he could be dreaming about something other than the hell-hole he’s found himself trapped in on earth.

“Cas, buddy,” Dean says, flopping in a chair next to the bed. “We’re not finding anything. But I’m going to get you out of this, ok?”

He doesn’t expect Cas to respond, but he sits there in silence for awhile anyway, just staring at the wall above Cas’s inert body.

Every day since Cas went under, Dean has been coming to the room to talk to him. He’s not actually sure if he hopes Cas can hear or not, because he’s been saying the kind of shit he would never say if Cas were conscious, speaking quietly between them like the walls have ears. (They might; Sam is always lurking around waiting for Dean to have a moment of Feelings that he can take advantage of.)

“I hope you’re ok in there,” Dean says, leaning forward in the chair, elbows on his knees. “I, um. We miss having you around.”

Dean drops his head into his hands, scrubs his hands through his hair. “You’re part of us, you know? Team Free Will, remember? I can’t – we can’t – do this without you.”

Next time Dean visits Cas, he is disastrously drunk, went through most of a fifth of Jack on an empty stomach while everyone else keeps researching.

“I’m the shittiest guy,” Dean says to Cas. “I’m the shittiest fucking friend you could ever have, Cas. We’re gonna figure this out, and then you gotta leave, ok? You think you love me, but it’s just cuz you don’t know anyone else. Someone else will be better for you. Wouldn’t let this happen in the first place.”

Dean reaches out and touches Cas’s hand, his slender fingers. This vessel never gets gun and shovel callouses like the one covering Dean’s hands. And because Dean is drunk, he does something he’s only done in life-or-death situations before, touching Cas’s face, just the back of his knuckles brushing down Cas’s cheek. He kind of expects the skin to be clammy, but it’s not; it’s rough with stubble that’s not any longer than it was the day Cas went under but soft and warm underneath. “Cas,” Dean says quietly, voice breaking. “Need you, man.”

And because Dean is drunk, he leans further forward and brushes his lips over the place his hand just touched, just a barely-there caress of Cas’s cheek.

Dean is half turned towards the door, heading out, when Cas says, “Dean.”

Dean turns in a flash. “Fucking hell – Cas!”

Cas sits up and gives Dean a smile far too wide for someone who’s been comatose for months, but Dean falls into it like he always does.

“You – how – ?”

“You kissed me,” Cas says, touching his cheek like he can still feel the ghost of Dean’s mouth.

“I’m really fucking drunk, I’m sorry, it didn’t mean –”

“It’s a Sleeping Beauty curse, Dean,” Cas says.

Dean gulps. He can guess what Cas is going to say next.

“True love’s kiss,” Cas says, “is the only way to disable the curse.”

“Spider-Man: Homecoming’s” Seven Best Jokes and Why they Matter

Spider-Man has had a rocky ride when it comes to Hollywood. Sam Raimi’s first two films were instantly beloved mega-hits that proved the superhero formula could be a cash cow, but the next three titles that bore the wall-crawler’s name ranged from just alright to downright abysmal. In case you didn’t already know, Spider-Man: Homecoming is a MUCH needed course correction, and in my opinion the best Spider-Man movie, ever, by a pretty huge margin.

What makes it so special? Its sense of humor. Jon Watt’s attempt reminds me a lot of my favorite Spider-Man stories: the first few years of the “Ultimate Spider-man” comics penned by Brian Michael Bendis (who unsurprisingly gets a special thanks in the credits). What he does better than any iteration prior (or since) is fully convince the reader that Peter Parker is a goofy kid caught up in a world of larger than life choices, risks, and consequences. That premise is simultaneously kinda heart-breaking and, more importantly rife for comedy. Here are, in no particular order, the 7 best laugh out loud moments in Spider-Man: Homecoming and how they help give this movie its secret sauce.

Minor spoilers ahead, but I will write these in a way that the punchline isn’t ruined prematurely.

Here’s some sads!

You didn’t ask for it, but I’m giving it to you! Alright? Buckle up!

In a recent comic by @comyet about the origins of the fantastic character Ink, it’s shown he can’t actual feel emotions, due to not having a SOUL. He can artificially stimulate emotions using colors from a yet unknown source. Or maybe the source is known, and I just don’t get it. I know it has to do with the creator or somethings? I don’t know. ANYWAYS! Everytime he runs out of the colors, his emotions fade. And when his emotions fade, so does his personality.

At first, I thought he was kind of like Fresh, since Fresh can’t feel emotions either. But I realized Fresh has a personality, even if it’s born purely out of survival in order to ‘fit in’. (We all know how well he does. If not, then check him out, he belongs to @loverofpiggies.)

In order to keep his personality from fading, he bottled them up. The colors, that is. So all he has to do is take some and voilà, he has emotions, and a personality. Now here’s where the sads I warned you about kick in.

Let’s say, Ink can’t get access to a fresh supply of his emotion colors. So all he has are his bottles. His bottles last him a while, since all he needs to take are a little bit and he’s set for awhile. But, let’s say he got into a fight. With Error (who also belongs to @loverofpiggies) or somebody. And his sash holding the bottles get cut, so in panic, Ink grabs it in order to not lose it. Error notices how important the sash with the bottles are to Ink, so he uses his strings to take it. And he disappears off into the anti-void or wherever he goes, taking the sash with him. Error doesn’t realize the importance of the bottles, only that they were important to Ink. He thinks it’s like Ink’s brush. It won’t kill Ink, but it will certainly drag on him. Error thinks it’s a relatively harmless prank.

Now Ink, he’s frantic when Error disappears with his bottles. But, he calms down, thinking Error will have to show up at some point to destroy an AU. And when he does, Ink will show up like always and then be able to get his bottles back. Except, Error doesn’t show up again. He’s taken a break of sorts. No activity on his end. And usually, Ink would be happy about that, since it would mean Error’s not destroying AUs. But Ink needs Error to make an appearance. He needs his bottles back. But, still no Error.

Slowly, Ink notices his emotions fading. It’s not obvious at first, but the colors of his outfit gives it away. The colors are more drab than usual. Ink finds it harder and harder to conjure up an emotion. He no longer pukes up ink, simply because he can no longer get that excited. Even his eyes don’t change as much. It’s like he’s fading away. Ink isolates himself, trying to make his emotions last as long as possible. Because once that’s gone… for all intents and purposes… he’ll be dead.

Eventually, someone finds him. Be it Dream, or Sans, or whatever being can access where he is. Maybe even Error. His friends would be devastated, seeing Ink like that. He no longer has any colors. And he shows no emotions at seeing them, not even sadness. He recognizes them, but it’s like he doesn’t care. If Error found him, he probably wouldn’t completely understand what’s going on. He would mock Ink, boast over him. But when Ink doesn’t even show any emotion towards him, or any hints of his usually boisterous personality, Error would get mad. He would scream, yell at Ink to do something. Because anything is better than nothing. But Ink doesn’t do anything.

Maybe, possibly, in anger, Error would brandish Ink’s sash. Maybe he was already wearing it as a trophy. And Ink shows the first signs of life in looong while. Error quickly realizes what Ink wants, and tosses it to him, hoping that does something. And Ink takes the bottles, and takes a drink from all of them. Maybe all at once. And it’s like a freaking rainbow. All the colors coming bursting back. Ink probably pukes ink, his emotions overwhelming him.

Ink thanks Error, probably in his annoying little shit way (I love him), purposely antagonizing Error. But… it’s also sincere. And Error acts all flustered and tsundere probably, but is secretly glad Ink is back. But he probably just flops Ink off and goes back to the anti-void.

Standard Deck Tech: New Perspectives

[you can see every deck tech here]

Hello & welcome to this weekly deck tech! This week we’re looking into standard with a very very spicy deck. I’ve debating longly about which deck to discuss and when I settled on what must be the craziest deck in standard right now, I had to figure out which version to talk about. At first I wanted to go around the Bounty of the Luxa version, but I feel like that card might be a bit better in a ramp deck with big payoffs, no matter how much I want to make it work. So here goes nothing!

Name of the Deck

This is the card that your whole deck revolves around. Your goal is to get to 6 mana quickly, drop this down and then go crazy with cycling. The rest of your deck is FILLED with cyclers to eventually draw your entire deck and win from there. You just need to survive until turn 5 or 6, and if you do you are assured to win!

Win Condition

While the other card let’s you draw your entire deck, you still need to win somehow; this is where this card comes in. Cast it once, draw 7 more cards, cast it again. While you cycle through your deck you’ll also be generating a fair amount of mana and it’s possible to cast New Perspectives on turn 5 and still have enough mana to cast Approach of the Second Sun twice in the same turn. It’s crazy.

Combo Enabler

This is the other very important piece; you’ll cycle your entire hand (pretty much) and this makes extra sure you don’t fizzle, that you always have more cyclers. Without this card it might be possible to make the combo work, but if you cast it a few times there is no way you can mess it up, you’re winning for sure.

Mana Base

I don’t normally talk about lands, because most of the time it’s really up to you what you run. In this case it’s a bit different since the lands are a very important part of the deck. You need to play cycling lands to make sure you have enough cycling action. Decks play anywhere between 12 & 20 of those lands (some of the don’t play the BR ones).

Now we’re getting into all the cycling cards that double as another effect. In this case you got yourself a pretty good removal spell that hits anything notable and has a cheap cycling cost!

Life Gain

Since the deck wants to just get to 6 mana & win the game, you need to make sure you survive that long. Renewed Faith helps staying alive & is very helpful against aggro decks, the little 2 life here & there don’t seem like much but it does a difference.

Just like the last card this is to help you make it to 6 lands, and it really does work. You can buy yourself a few turns, especially with Shadow of the Grave. I thought about adding more fogs to really make sure you can make it to your combo, but with just those you seem to be fine. Like, you’ll tend to get low on life when you can win, but it seems consistent that you don’t get TOO low.

This little beauty is super good; you get to fetch a land (that comes into play UNTAPPED) and draw a card for 4cmc! If you get a New Perspective out you get all of that for 0cmc! It doesn’t get any better than this!

More Ramping

Staying on the ramp theme, this non-cycling card is actually VERY useful in the game and is part of your complex combo. You can cast this on turn 3, cycle a Monitor on turn 4 & combo off on turn 5. Also, it goes super well with the next card.

Even More Mana

This is another integral part of the combo & has an amazing synergy with Gift of Paradise. When you’re comboing off, you’ll need to generate 14 mana to cast your Approach of the Second Sun twice; with Vizier & Gift you’ll only need to untap a land 7 times, as opposed to 14 (which is not possible to do on the same turn as you cast New Perspective). This cycle, with the previous enchantment, make sure that you are able to combo off on the same turn as you cast the card that lends it’s name to the deck.

Adding Consistency

While this card doesn’t cycle, it adds something nice to the deck. You’ll often have delirium since all your cycling cards have different types, so you’ll be able to go fetch you Viziers to make sure you get enough mana for your combo, or you can just grab a land early in the game to make sure you don’t miss your land drop. Though if you want to make this a block-constructed deck, or feel weird about having just 1 card from another set, you can just play some more cyclers like Sweltering Suns instead of this; you’ll be drawing your entire deck anyways…

Sideboard Options

I don’t usually talk about sideboard since it mostly depends on your meta & preferences, but in this case you want cards that double as other cyclers, so that you don’t go down in number of cantrips. Cards like Censor, Dissenter’s Deliverance, Sweltering Suns & Forsake the Worldly that have good effects against different decks and also can be cycled. Oh, and some Drake Haven as an alternative win condition since people can sideboard some answers to your normal plan.

That’s it for this week! This must have been the spiciest standard deck tech I’ve done in a while; this deck is really cool, super fun to play and is fairly cheap, sitting at around 100$. Most of the price of the deck comes from all the cycling lands, which are still a very good investment since they’ll see massive play in EDH as well as fringe play in Modern. I hope you guys enjoyed this as much as I did, if I missed anything let me know. I’ll see you guys next week for a Modern deck tech!
