does anybody need one of these

Evermore is the most gorgeous song that rips your heart out and makes you feel all the FEELS!!

- Josh Groban’s version is absolutely wonderful

- I literally can’t comprehend how he stole an angels voice and made it even better

- You can really appreciate the depth and strength of his voice like damn

- I get Phantom of the Opera vibes and can totally see the song in both

- Thank you my enchanting siren

BUT HEAR DAN STEVENS VERSION WITNESS OUR BEAST SING

- This one literally makes me clench my heart in pain

- At the end of the song I’m on the verge of tears

- You can truly feel how much she has affected him and he can never let her go inside his heart

- But he does because he is selfless as fuck and wants her happiness before anyone’s

- It just has so much emotion especially the last lyrics like I’m bawling just writing this

- Forever in love with you my Beauty

- READ THESE DAMN LYRICS AND LISTEN TO THE SONG SO YOU CAN FEEL YOUR HEART BREAK!

I was the one who had it all
I was the master of my fate
I never needed anybody in my life
I learned the truth too late

I’ll never shake away the pain
I close my eyes but she’s still there
I let her steal into my melancholy heart
It’s more than I can bear

Now I know she’ll never leave me
Even as she runs away
She will still torment me, calm me, hurt me
Move me, come what may

Wasting in my lonely tower
Waiting by an open door
I’ll fool myself she’ll walk right in
And be with me for evermore

I rage against the trials of love
I curse the fading of the light
Though she’s already flown so far beyond my reach
She’s never out of sight

Now I know she’ll never leave me
Even as she fades from view
She will still inpire me, be a part of
Everything I do

Wasting in my lonely tower
Waiting by an open door
I’ll fool myself she’ll walk right in

And as the long, long nights begin
I’ll think of all that might have been
Waiting here for evermore!

My opinion about the signs

Okay… I know this is not really my type of content but I always find these interesting to read so I thought I’ll post one myself.

Aries: you can count on them, don’t take things too seriously, get mad at small things, much fun to hang out with, somewhat egoistic, as soon as they find someone more interesting than you they will hang out with them (though, they will not forget about you)

Taurus: I always become extremly good friends with them, so relaxing to hang out with them, weird humour, very determined and stubborn, talk a loooot, in a relationship they need a lot of physical interaction, they make me feel like home, laughs about every little thing, cute laugh

Gemini: fun people to hang out with, their humour is so… unexpected like they say things you would have never thought about, tend to hide their serious feelings/emotions, take the side of the person they want to impress, think too much about how they can impress someone rather than just beeing themselves (even through their personality is way more charming)

Cancer: a little too sensitive for my taste, can get very annoying but they are too cute to be mad at, need a lot of protection, very giggly, great story-tellers (but they tend to tell you the same story over and over again), materialistic, put you first, loves from the bottom of their heart, pretty smart but dumb at the same time

Leo: warmhearted people, try to be funny and cool all the time (but fail eventually lol too cute), buys you a lot of gifts, attention-lovers, likes to meet new people, very vain when it comes to their appearance, very nervous when having tests/exams, naturally intelligent (unfortunately this doesn’t help them much in school), enjoys good food

Virgo: stress themselves way too much, overthink everything, usually very good in school, gets mad and stressed when things don’t work out as they thought they would, sort of a boring personality, they can talk sooooo much, very sensitive (!!!), tend to be too harsh on themselves, high expectations of themselves

Libra: naturally flirty af, cute smile, scared to be alone, talks most of the time about themselves, makes sure everybody is getting enough attention, very lazy, does things in the last minute, usually the one studying for a test/exam the lesson before, clumsy, needs protection, don’t like confrontations/fights, not good at making decisions or being on time

Scorpio: just like libras they talk a lot about themselves, get veeeeery obsessive over things and people, their staring is so intense that it makes me feel uncomfortable, cares a lot about their loved ones, scared to show feelings, makes very weird but cute compliments you would have never gotten from anybody else, sporty, try to flirt but that’s just a little… cringe-worthy lol

Sagittarius: now… these people are the absolut oppostie of me, always awkward when we hang out together, not the most loyal boyfriend/girlfriend/friend, always wearing top outfits, always looking good, cares a lot about their hair or in general their appearance, not the best in school, party every weekend, straightforward

Capricorn: makes sooo many cute compliments, I have this weird attraction towards them, extremly sexy, intelligent, can’t sit still, they are very weird people, humour consists of sarcasm and dad jokes and can be very dry, know way too well how to seduce people, not the best in expressing their feeling but they try, ABSOLUT SWEETHEARTS, gets shy when being complimented, very sensitive, never forget their mistakes and always regret them (no matter how small it was)

Aquarius: makes me feel like home at the very first meeting, either pretty chill or being pissed off at silly things, don’t like stubborn people, tendency to be very religious, very good friends, will do everything for and with you, works hard to reach their goals, plans everything weeks/months before

Pisces: I either like or can’t stand them, actually quite egoistic, not the best in using the right words, sensitive af 24/7, dark humour, cries a lot, scared to hurt someones feelings (even if they don’t like the person), avoids confrontations/fights by not saying what’s really on their mind, in a fight they will say the most hurtful things (and will regret them their whole life), using the victim-card way too often, most of the time smiling

a short french lesson: les negatives

the common french negation with ne/pas is used to contradict or deny a statement. today we will learn more ways to express this, using words other than “pas.”

note : in spoken french, the ne is usually dropped, but i will include it in these examples.

  1. ne… jamais : never, not ever
example: je ne suis pas triste means i am not sad, while je ne suis jamais triste means i am never sad.
  2. ne… rien : nothing, not anything
example: je n’ai pas de livre means i don’t have any books, while je n’ai rien means i don’t have anything.
  3. ne… personne : nobody, no one, not anyone
example: je ne parle pas means i don’t speak, while je ne parle à personne means i don’t speak to anyone.
  4. ne… plus : not anymore, no longer
example: je ne travaille pas means i am not woking, while je ne travaille plus means i am no longer working.
  5. ne… que : only
example: il ne voit pas les lions means he doesn’t see the lions, while il ne voit que les lions means he only sees the lions.
  6. ne… pas encore : not yet
example: il n’est pas arrivé means he has not arrived, while il n'est pas encore arrivé means he has not arrived yet.
  7. ne… pas du tout : at all
example: je n’ai pas faim means i am not hungry, while je n’ai pas du tout faim means i am not hungry at all.
  8. ne… ni : neither, nor
example: il ne voit ni les lions, ni les tigres means he sees neither the lions nor the tigers.

the odd ones, personne and rien

  • ce matin, madeleine ne veut voir personne means this morning, madeleine doesn’t want to see anybody.
  • il ne veut parler à personne means he does not want to talk to anybody.
  • elle ne pense à rien means she is not thinking about anything.

alright, french lesson over! let me know if i need to change anything or if you have questions. merci d'avoir lu ce texte ☺

In light of an unfortunate display of ignorance I witnessed today, let me take a moment to make something blatantly clear, for anybody that needs it:

-making fun of someone for using a fidget spinner, to the point of them displaying obvious embarrassment and shame, is disgusting.

-when you say things like “Oh my GOD, I hate those spinners! They’re so annoying, what are they even for haha” you are being willfully ignorant. Spinners are marketed towards people with anxiety, PTSD, OCD, ADD/ADHD, Autistic people, and many other people with brains different from yours that need an outlet to focus, relax, relieve sensory-related issues, and many other things that yours does automatically. Most of the ones I see advertised even specify “For anxiety/stress/ADHD/Autism/etc”

-Making fun of someone for other behaviors such as rocking, hand flapping, echolalia, hair twirling, skin picking, hair pulling, etc is in fact, also a shitty thing of you to do. It’s also unnecessary, cruel, and humiliates the person who is doing those things.

-Don’t make fun of people who use fidget spinners. Don’t make fun of people who stim. I don’t give a rat’s ass if you think it’s unnecessary, or it “looks weird” or it “looks gross.” Don’t do it. You KNOW what you’re doing. I know what you’re doing. I’ve had it, I’m done.

RP Starters: Vampire
  • “When you’ve been alive for a couple of centuries, you kind of have to develop a different attitude towards life.”
  • “It’s daytime, you better have a good reason for waking me up while the sun is still shining.”
  • “I’d rather not dwell on the fact that I feel like drinking the blood of my best friend.”
  • “300 years of friendship ended in a single moment, and you ask if I’m okay?”
  • “At what point in the last century did humans forget what knocking was?”
  • “You are blood of my blood and all of that silly Bram Stoker mess.”
  • “I wouldn’t eat you if you were the last human on earth.”
  • “I gave you new life! And this is how you repay me?”
  • “How are you doing? Are you feeling…. bitey?”
  • “Does it hurt? You know… your… neck… thing.”
  • “I didn’t know whether I could tell you before.”
  • “Wait! You thought I was trying to eat you?”
  • “I have given you another chance at life.”
  • “We just need to get the blood off you.”
  • “Have you ever wanted to live forever?”
  • “You can smell my blood, can’t you?”
  • “No one can resist immortality.”
  • “Have you ever killed anybody.”
  • “I want to be with you forever.”
  • “No… I can smell your blood.”
  • “Where is your reflection?”
  • “What’s your blood type?”
  • “What does it smell like?”
  • “I’m not afraid you you.”
  • “Good. It smells good.”
  • “Can I turn into a bat?”
  • “You look… delicious.”
  • “Who’s blood is that?”
  • “Bite me. Please.”
  • “You killed me!”

Allura: For this mission, we’ll need someone to infiltrate the central hub by hiding in plain sight. Unfortunately, our faces are now common knowledge. I myself need to stay in the Castle to continue negotiations, so we sadly cannot shapeshift our way out of this problem.

Hunk: Ugh. I hate it when Plan S doesn’t work.

Allura: We must find a way into this hub. Does anybody have any idea how?

Coran: Princess… I think I may be able to do it.

Allura: Coran, are you sure? Your face is also exceedingly well-known… what kind of disguise would you even use?

Coran: The simplest one there is, of course! You want me to hide in plain sight, correct? Then there’s only one way to do this.

(scene change)

Lance: (cautiously weighs the razor in his hand) Coran… are you sure?

Coran, clutching onto his seat with a white-knuckled grip, tears in his eyes: Yes. Just, make it quick, please. For all our sakes.

Lance: (flips on electric razor’s switch) Godspeed, my friend.

Coran: (closes his eyes as the razor leers over his face)

‘He…’ you begin, feeling a ball of happiness inside of you at the thought ‘he told me he wanted to speak to me. He said that I made him better, and he wanted me to be his. He told me he’s in love with me!’ You can’t help but grin as you relay his words. Elena does anything but; her face is set in a straight line. ‘I want to be with him Elena. I love him’ you tell her.

‘I know you do…but Y/N I’m trying to help you. Damon Salvatore is not a good guy. He’s selfish and reckless, and he hurts the people he loves. I mean, think about it. He turned Ric’s wife. He’s killed his way through hundreds of people. He’s killed Jeremy! What do you think he’ll do to you, if you let him get close to you? You’re just a human, you’ve got no means of protection.’

‘He wouldn’t do that!’ you tell her ‘he said I bring out the good in him. He wouldn’t hurt me, I know it.’

‘You can’t be sure of that. No one can ever be sure of the things Damon does, or why he does them. Please, save yourself the pain and the heartache and possible death, and listen to me. Stay away.’

‘I need to think’ you tell her, as a signal for her to leave. She shakes her head at you ‘I hope you chose wisely’ she says as she leaves the room. You lay your head in your hands, your mind spinning. You’re in love with Damon, but Elena is one of your best friends, and she’s dating his brother, Stefan, who knows him better than anybody. You just don’t know what to do; whatever you decide, someone’s going to get hurt. It’s not the first time you’ve had this conversation with Elena, and so far you’ve tried your best to keep your distance. But now you’ve heard him say those words out loud, it’s made it so much harder. You want him, and now you know for sure he wants you too.

Your head still spinning with your thoughts, you lay back on your bed and close your eyes, deciding to sleep on it for a while.

Hours later, you’re still not asleep. You’ve given up by this point. It’s getting really late, and there’s only one person you want to see. Damon. You can’t resist him any longer. You want to feel his lips and his hands on you. You want him to take you and make you his. You want him. You can feel a wetness growing between your legs just thinking about it, and you squeeze your thighs together agitatedly.

Making up your mind, you rise from your bed and walk quietly along the corridor, until you reach Damon’s room. You knock quietly on the door, knocking again harder when there’s no reply. Again, he doesn’t respond. You strain to hear if there’s any movement coming from inside. Deciding there isn’t, you turn around to go and look for him elsewhere, only to run right into Damon himself. He’s obviously just come from the shower; his hair is wet and messy, as though he’s just been running his hands through it, and he’s wearing nothing but a towel covering him from the waist down. Just the sight of him is enough to bring a rush of heat between your legs. You look up at him, your eyes betraying your feelings.

‘Y/N, are you okay?’ he asks, his eyes growing dark as he realises ‘what is it?’

‘I need you. Now’ you tell him, in a voice dripping with lust.

Damon doesn’t waste a second after the words have left your mouth. He leans down to kiss you roughly, his hands on your cheeks, his tongue slipping into your mouth. You kiss him back just as hard, trying to pull him closer even though there’s no more room. He picks you up and walks into the bedroom, pushing you up against the wall and pinning your hands above your head. He kisses across your jawline and down your neck, his lips lingering on the sweet spot behind your ears.

‘Damon’ you moan softly.

He moves his left hand down from your wrists, leaving them both pinned up by his right, and starts to ghost it over your bare skin. The lightness of his touch leaves goosebumps, and has you almost begging for more. You start to feel your panties grow wet, and you cast your eyes down over his bare, toned chest.

‘What do you want me to do?’ he asks you, his voice breathy.

‘Anything. Please, I need you’ you whimper.

‘Use your words’ he commands, his hands grazing your breasts, earning him another moan from you.

‘Finger me’ you tell him ‘fuck me until I can’t walk.’

‘Someone’s eager’ he whispers ‘as you wish.’

He picks you up and throws you on the bed, quickly removing your t-shirt and bra and throwing them across the room. He takes your boobs in his hands, squeezing them as he kisses your mouth and down your jawline, sucking on your tender skin and leaving a trail of marks down your collarbones. He kisses down to your left boob and takes your nipple in his mouth, biting down on it. Sparks of pleasure race through you, as your rub your other nipple between your fingers.

‘Fuck, Damon’ you groan, your other hand knotted into his dark hair ‘I need your fingers.’ He moans softly at your words and your hands tugging his hair, and the vibrations on your skin only intensify your pleasure.

Damon runs his hands down to your waist to pull your jeans down, kissing the material covering your clit before slipping his fingers beneath it and running them over your folds.

‘Fuck, you’re so wet’ he groans. He uses his finger to collect your arousal, before putting them into his mouth to taste you ‘ and you taste so fucking good.’

‘Damon’ you moan again, your hips bucking up in your eagerness and your need to feel some kind of friction. He smirks at you before removing your panties and slipping a finger inside of you.

‘Fuck’ you gasp as he starts to thrust it into you, the roughness of his finger exactly what you need. ‘Fuck, harder, I need more. Damon!’

He adds another finger and then another, curling them into your g-spot as you moan his name and a string of profanities. He attaches his lips back to yours and bites down on your bottom lip, moaning along with you.

‘Keep saying my name baby’ he groans ‘you’re so fucking sexy.’ He uses a thumb to rub furious circles on your clit, his other hand reaching up to squeeze your boob, only adding to your pleasure.

‘Faster’ you moan, and he speeds up, adding another finger, until he’s got four slamming into you. Pleasure overtakes your body, and you throw your head back wildly, your eyes rolling backwards at the sensation.

‘FUCK, DAMON’ you scream.

‘Yes, scream my name baby, just like that’ he tells you, as you pull at his hair and buck your hips upwards into his fingers.

‘Shit, I’m gonna cum’ you tell him. You can feel the knot burning in the pit of your stomach, and your legs start to shake, unable to bear it any longer.

‘Cum for me baby’ he says, his fingers curling into your g-spot as he thrusts them in over and over, moving his thumb from your clit to your folds.

‘Shit, shit, shit’ you curse as you feel yourself release over his fingers. He slowly removes them, moving his thumb back up to rub your clit as you orgasm. He raises his fingers back up to his lips, tasting you again.

‘Fuck Damon’ you gasp ‘oh, shit.’

You look up into his electric blue eyes ‘this needs to go’ you tell him, tugging at the towel he’s still wearing. He pulls it down quickly, leaving his rock hard cock to spring up, slapping his stomach. You whimper again at the sight, and he crawls on top of you, lining himself up with your entrance before pushing inside. He gives you a moment to adjust to his size before starting to move, grinding his hips into your own.

‘Y/N’ he moans ‘you’re so fucking tight.’ You groan in pleasure as he speeds up, your hand flying down to rub your own clit in rhythm with his thrusts, as you buck your hips upwards, trying to get as much friction as possible.

‘Shit, oh fuck’ he groans, his moans mixing with yours as he continues to thrust, going faster and faster, as he kisses you roughly. You wrap your legs around his waist, making you both moan. More moans and profanities fill the air as he continues to slam into you, his cock stretching you out, just enough so that you feel pain and pleasure at the same time.

‘Keep going baby, that feels so fucking good’ you tell him. ‘SHIT’ you scream as he hits your g-spot ‘right there, fuck baby.’ He thrusts into it again and again as you scream his name.

‘You feel so good baby’ he says, moving his hands to squeeze your boobs again. He moans into your hair as your walls clench around him, and you feel his thrusts starting to become sloppy, letting you know he’s almost at his end.

‘Y/N I’m gonna cum’ he moans.

‘Me too’ you groan.

You kiss his neck, nipping at the skin with your teeth as you feel him release his load inside of you. You release a moment later, your juices mixing as he thrusts a couple more times, helping you both to ride out your orgasms.

‘Fuck’ you gasp as he pulls out of you and lays back on the bed next to you, panting. He looks over at you and smirks, before asking ‘so, are you still going to stay away from me now?’

Let’s Go

Summary: Billy has decided it’s time to get away from his father. His girlfriend, Jim Hopper’s niece, knows exactly where to go.

Author’s Note: I just had to write some Eleven… I couldn’t help it. There is more to this story if you guys like it enough for a part two!

REQUESTS OPEN

Feedback always appreciated, especially if you didn’t like it (seriously, you can roast me. I always want my work to improve)

I sat draped over Billy’s lap, his arms keeping me upright as I cleaned the caked blood from under his nose.

“We could tell him you know,” I murmured.

“Jesus Christ, Y/N, we’ve talked about this.” He grumbled, sitting back in his seat.

I leaned my forehead against his temple and closing my eyes. I couldn’t just sit by and watch this happen to him over and over, especially not when I had the capacity to stop it.

“Not really. I’ve brought it up, and you shut me down.” I remembered.

“And that’s all there is to talk about.” He huffed.

Being the niece of the chief of police had its advantages and disadvantages. He held me to a higher standard than most, so when I started hanging around Billy… Let’s just say he gave me a stern talking to.

Okay little shits I want to say some words about the Earp Sisters- particularly my darling Willa

I see a lot of you guys have been giving her quite a bit of flack- you know for hating Waverly and shooting Nicole and unleashing a writhing tentacle beast on Purgatory. Now these are all very bad things. But I’d like to take a moment to explore how we got here. And as a clinical child psychologist specializing in abuse and trauma- I have A LOT to say about these three. Because OH BOY do they run the spectrum of child abuse outcomes in the real world.

Now, I want to start by saying all three of the Earp sisters were born into an abusive household. But the three had some very different experiences of abuse/neglect, and environment is SO important on child development. Like genetics is some basic groundwork but really it’s environment that does most of the shaping. In this analysis, let’s start youngest:

Waverly Earp. Now Waverly is like an ideal outcome from abuse. Clearly this girl was born with a hell of a lot of resilience in her genes (that Earp? legacy). She can bounce back from a crisis. But, she kinda got it easiest of the three: she was only in the homestead until she was 6- after that she was raised by Gus and Uncle Curtis in what was no doubt a much healthier, stabler household. Now see age 6 is important- because personality is generally done developing just before puberty- about 10 years of age. This factoid of personality development will come up again later, but for Waverly, being removed from a toxic environment at a young age meant she actually had a chance to unlearn/recover from many of the more nasty potential effects of severe neglect (she was by far the most neglected I mean a demon was her best friend and NO ONE KNEW) as well as the sibling abuse inflicted by Willa (blackmail, sadism, power plays- not a good sign in a child).

Now does the abuse still affect her? Hell yeah! She still lived through it and it changed her permanently- you see it in how she needs love and attention (why else go for Champ as soon as Wynonna leaves town? She needed ANYBODY) even at her own expense. She downplays herself, but simultaneously wants to be important (the Heir- cause you know her dad only cared about the Heir). And you know what I think? She didn’t resist telling Wynonna about Nicole because she was scared what she would think. No. Wynonna of course doesn’t care. No she didn’t say anything because she didn’t want to even risk Nicole getting involved in the toxicity surrounding the Earp family. She wanted Nicole separate to keep her safe (remnant thought process from Willa using what Waverly loved to blackmail her). But still, even with all of this, she is not as severely affected as she would’ve been if she had stayed neglected and abused for say, 12 or 13 years. Waverly had intervention, and real world case studies of severe emotional neglect have shown that a child as old as 5-6 can bounce back remarkably well in the right care. I mean to where you wouldn’t know they had been through Hell- at least not immediately.

Wynonna Earp. Middle sibling, mix of neglect and abuse. She is the most moderate/common outcome from abusive childhoods- with healthy and unhealthy coping mechanisms and personality traits meshed together. Like Waverly, resilient as hell, because she lived in that environment for 12 years, and unlike Waverly didn’t get a healthy stable home afterwards. No she got the foster care system and juvie and unhelpful counselors who essentially gaslighted her (unintentionally but it’s still gaslighting) which does no one any favors. So Wynonna had way more negative environment time, yet she still held on to her “good” side- she has a moral code she follows, she cares for those close to her, she’s able to have a healthy relationship with at least one person (Waverly). I’d almost say she’s shown the most resilience of the three. Now her childhood experience is interesting, because she’s in the middle of this spectrum. She didn’t receive the full force of Ward’s attention because she wasn’t the Heir, Willa was. So that’s less aggression abuse from him, instead she was more neglected by him. But her very close age with Willa put her close to that aggression abuse as she experienced it vicariously through Willa. She saw what he did to Willa by way of abuse and Waverly by neglect, and seeing that affected her. It made her so, so protective and parental. Of both Waverly and Willa. So while Ward may not have done much direct abuse to Wynonna, she still lived it. And it affected her to make her a caretaker.

It’s also a form of displacement on Wynonna’s part- to be a caretaker. The prospect of caring for herself is far too daunting but caring for another? More doable. Taking a caretaker role also helps her regain some sense of control, none of which she had when she had to witness Ward’s abuse and couldn’t help Willa or Waverly. Now some of you may be asking: “Didn’t she see Willa abuse Waverly? How could she still care for Willa?” Remember she had known Willa much longer than Waverly, and on top of that she knew WHY Willa was so callous and aggressive- she knew first hand why. So she explained it away because she loved Willa and saw she was broken and I’m willing to bet when she witnessed the sibling abuse, she stepped in. I have a feeling Willa did most of it under the radar. Hell I bet even Wynonna got some verbal or emotional abuse at times from Willa, but she went with it because it was less severe. And again she would explain it away. And in Willa’s absence, Wynonna idolized her even more, and she became a myth of herself. Her good qualities remembered over her bad ones. Waverly had a different experience seeing as she didn’t HAVE any good memories of Willa.

Now to the contentious point. Willa Earp. Now I’ve taken you through the personality development of Waverly and Wynonna. You see how they came to be. Now I’m going to show you how Willa came to be. As the Heir, Willa was THE focus of Ward’s attention. And this is where it begins. If she had been neglected she may have actually had a shot, ironically. Because Ward promoted aggression, antisocial behavior, and created a culture of fear. We’ve only seen glimpses but he was taking her out in the middle of night telling her how everyone would die and it’d be her fault. He was creating a paranoid soldier. Now this is awful for a child’s development, especially personality. Remember she lived under Ward’s thumb for 13 years- her personality had long since formed, and it formed to cope with constant fear and a desire to gain some semblance of control over her situation to stay safe. And to keep Wynonna safe. I do not doubt she loved Wynonna- but she loved her how she LEARNED to love another human. Ward had no problem hurting and scaring Willa in a horribly misguided attempt at raising her. She knew as a child that fathers are supposed to love their daughters. So Ward’s abuse must have been how you love (in the mind of young Willa), and you see her applying this with Wynonna. She was more than ready to kill Wynonna because she truly believed it was a kindness and a show of love.

Did Willa ever love Waverly? I do not think so. Because Waverly didn’t show up until Willa was already about 8 years old and completely bonded to Wynonna. And, I think she was too busy to learn to love her, which I’ll explain more later on. Even in a healthy family, it’s not uncommon for an older sibling to resent a younger one, but add in the way Willa has been treated and raised up until that point, and you get the extreme response of sibling abuse. Now you might ask “So why didn’t Wynonna do the same? Why did she get parental while Willa got aggressive?” and the answer is (for the first time in this whole spiel) likely genetics.

A quick lesson: everyone is born with a specific type of temperament, which in short is how a child naturally deals with their emotions. Do they sorta “go with the flow” of their emotions, are they a powder keg with strong, uncontrollable emotions, or some mix? Temperament forms the building blocks of all further personality development, and it is far far from destiny. But it’s a genetic predisposition to regulate your emotions in a certain way. And it is interconnected with that resilience I’ve mentioned previously.

Resilience, if you aren’t sure, is a child’s ability to cope with adversity. The greater the resilience, the more likely a child is to come away from adversity without major psychological harm. A highly resilient child, is more likely to have a “good” temperament (moderate level emotions, relatively easy to work with) whereas a child with low resilience is more likely to have an “at-risk” temperament (very strong emotions that are difficult to regulate). Wynonna, with her obviously high resilience, clearly had a “good” temperament growing up. Willa, most definitely was an “at-risk” temperament (her losing her cool at the slightest provocation with Whiskey Jim for example), and combined with the severe abuse and aggressive environment, that temperament blossomed into the rest of her personality.

A third vital ingredient in this is called cognitive load. What that refers to is basically how much mental effort/energy the brain spends performing a task or tasks. There is a finite amount of cognitive load the brain can handle, and so it must apportion its time as it sees fit. If there’s a lot of stimuli (external and internal) to deal with, the brain will prioritize, again, as it sees most fit, leaving out “unnecessary” information. EVERYTHING take some cognitive load, from thinking through a problem, to emotional regulation, to social relationships. And we all know you can only juggle so much.

Now let’s combine these three concepts together in Willa. Willa was born with an “at-risk” temperament, which means she has BIG emotions and cannot regulate them well. That takes a LOT of cognitive load to manage. She also has lower resilience to adversity, and some of resiliency’s power comes from a LARGE capacity for cognitive load. You are more resilient if you are better able to process and work through adversity instead of getting drowned in it. So low resiliency=low cognitive load capacity. This already low cognitive load capacity had to deal with emotional regulation of a veritable firecracker, so it’s mostly busy doing that. Add in her forced focus on Ward’s “training” (skills and cognitive tasks) and abuse, and her close bond to Wynonna (a social relationship to manage and someone to protect) and her poor brain is overloaded. It can’t handle any more responsibilities. So when Waverly comes along she sees another potential responsibility and says no. So instead Waverly becomes not only a nuisance to her (she’s got enough to focus on already), but an outlet for her frustration and pain. She has no control with Ward, but she can control Waverly like he does to her. She can feel big, and what kid doesn’t take comfort in feeling big?

Another major thing I want to point out with adult Willa is her obviously stunted emotional and social development, which is no surprise. I’m willing to bet growing up she really didn’t have any friends besides Wynonna, so all of her socialization happened in the Earp homestead (not a great place as has been clearly demonstrated). Willa shows an understanding of the world that is basically that of a preteen. It’s shown as a black and white understanding of other people when she tells Wynonna of the citizens of Purgatory “They hate us Wynonna, they’re evil they deserve that thing!”. It also plays into her lack of emotional regulation, because even a child with an “at-risk” temperament tends to improve some as they age because they learn ways to cope. Willa never did. Now not only did Ward contribute to this stunted development but so did being isolated by Bobo and Lou.

And finally it is here where I will address the Stockholm Syndrome briefly. Only briefly because while she clearly has it- believing Bobo loves her- it did not create Willa as she is. That happened long before Bobo. Bobo used what Ward had started, that’s probably part of what drew him to Willa. Bobo’s influence sure as hell didn’t help because all he did was reinforce everything she had learned up until that point. But Stockholm alone did not make Willa. It’s a much more complicated story and it is tragic and it is one that needs to be heard. She is a product of fear and pain and the need to survive, and while her history does not change the fact that as she is now she is a villain, she is a villain worth sympathy. Because the poor thing never really had a chance from day one. So I dare you to instead take a look at Willa not as the evil lesbian-shooter, but as a scared child trained to be a soldier who is solely responsible for everyone’s lives who cannot handle the pressure and needs to escape and doesn’t know any other way but destruction.

Hi! I have a few questions haha so I ll put them separately! 1. When you have characters that more quiet/reserved, but they aren't shy, how would you portray this? How would you portray a confident person who speaks little? How would they instead show their anger/resentments/amusement/love? Alternatively, how would this change if a character was quiet and not very comfortable in themselves?

2. What are good ways to hint at past abuse (physical/sexual/mental) without explicitly saying it? How would you imply that a particular person was responsible? How would show the way it has affected the individual/s? 3. How would you reveal/lead up to your character/s secrets? With the big secrets, how could you effectively foreshadow it without giving it away until you want to, but it still makes sense? Sorry this is super long! But thank you for your help!

Thank you for your questions!! I promise it wasn’t too long, this ask was a lot of fun to answer, and you posed some really great questions. I hope this helps!!

BIG POST OF CHARACTERIZATION

Quiet Characters - Shyness vs. Introversion

  • Something to note about introversion and its portrayal: it depends on whether or not you’re writing a viewpoint character. A lot of times, other characters will VIEW them as shy, until there’s a defining moment where everyone realizes they’re not shy, they just keep to themselves. Perhaps they provide commentary on things every so often, not afraid to show their opinion when it counts. However, this isn’t always the case. There are other instances where a character is quiet/speaks very little, but is also clearly not shy
    • A confident person who speaks little strikes me as the kind of person who only speaks when they feel they have something important to say/contribute. Which means that everything they do say holds greater weight than someone who talks constantly. There is a certain bluntness to this - therefore they are not insecure, or nervous about what they’re saying, they’re just a person of few words - they choose their words carefully.
    • Ex. Luna Lovegood of Harry Potter
      • It’s made rather explicit that Luna is not shy. She is not ashamed of who she is, even though we know she’s often made fun of by other students. She speaks rather little - when she is featured with the other characters, I would say that Luna is more often than not a listener. However, Luna does not hesitate to provide her opinion/knowledge when she deems it necessary. Example, in The Deathly Hallows (focusing on the films, so Part 2), she is not at all shy or skittish about telling Harry what information she knows to help him defeat Voldemort, even though Harry is distracted and at first unwilling to listen.

    • Ex. Aizawa Shouta (aka him who i love) of My Hero Academia
      • Aizawa is a classic example of being a “man of few words.” He is not a talkative person in the slightest, and he can seem even gloomy in comparison to more animated people. But one of the best examples of his confidence comes through when he’s shown speaking to other Pro Heroes about the problems they’re beginning to face. He does not hesitate to give his opinion, is not shy about it, and when he does state his stance, he stands firm, caring very little what anybody else might think. So while he clearly keeps to himself, he still makes his opinions known when necessary, making it clear that he’s not keeping to himself out of insecurity. He just prefers it that way.

    • Zero from Holes
      • I didn’t need this many examples, but I love Holes, it’s fine. So, Zero…is not shy. Did he or did he not punch somebody in the crotch? Ya’ll. He is teased relentlessly by the other boys in the camp - and he responds with pure silence. We may interpret this to be shyness early on, but as the story progresses it is clear that he’s not shy. He just doesn’t have time to mess around with people who want to call him names anyway. He’s got bigger fish to fry. So he ignores them. He is quiet not because he’s afraid to talk - but because he doesn’t want to.

    • What to take from all of this? If you have a character who is quiet, but confident as well, then have them make their opinions known when they feel it is necessary. They won’t be talkative, but they also won’t shy away when they feel that something important needs to be said.
  • Shyness in Characters
    • First off, I want to direct you to a great post that we have here that talks about insecurity in characters and how that can be portrayed, which I feel would be relevant. But, I do want to add on to what that post says here.
    • A shy character is totally different from the confident-but-quiet characters discussed above. Shyness is sprung from insecurity, the fear of saying something wrong, or being judged, etc. A shy character is going to actively avoid conversations with new people, and with people who make them uncomfortable. And when forced into said situations, they will not speak as openly as they do with friends, and will often come off as awkward or stilted, speaking very little, and often not about themselves.
    • Ex. Gus from Recess. Out of the five heroes of this story, Gus was probably the least down with social interaction (even though Spinelli was always ready to throw down with somebody). Whenever things get tough on the playground, he always lets his more bold friends take the reins to steer the situation, preferring to stay in the background.

Characters as Victims of Abuse

  • First off, I think it would depend on the type of abuse. Sometimes when people have such a traumatic experience, they don’t deal with/process the subsequent emotions, thus when they experience something later on that reminds them of the abuse, they can be triggered back into the emotions of the time.
    • Was this physical abuse? Perhaps they have both a physical and emotional reaction if someone attempts to come at them/hit them/etc, even if it’s supposedly a playful situation.
    • Emotional abuse? Someone talking down to them, name calling, being controlling etc. would probably provoke some strong emotional backlash. But also, it’s highly likely that victims of emotional abuse may retain a sense of low self-esteem/self-worth. They may talk down to themselves a lot, whether out loud or just in their internal monologue. Also, in some cases, it is possible that those who are victims of abuse can later become abusers, often as a way of trying to regain the power that was lost during the time of abuse.
    • HOWEVER, when dealing with all of this, it is very important that you research in depth the true effects of these experiences, even going so far as to try to talk to people who have experienced this personally. It is often a delicate subject, and should be handled with care and respect.
  • Now, implying that a certain person was responsible would depend on that character’s current role in the story. If they aren’t present in the current storyline, perhaps you can hint to a person from their past that they either refuse to talk about, or only speak of very negatively. Or maybe, they still harbor feelings for this person - it is possible to still care for your abuser, whether this is healthy or not. It is even further possible that the experience was traumatic enough for them to block out those more awful moments, or even attempted to explain this abuse away to themselves as their abusers way of showing love, thus they still hold affection for them, even if they are not a part of their life anymore.
    • If the abuser character is still in the picture, you would have a lot on your hands. Do the characters interact at all? This is dependent upon how your character feels about their abuser at this time, and what happened. Are they able to be in the same room with them without breaking down, or lashing out? Are they able to defend themselves from this person now, or are they still vulnerable to their abuse? Or do they refuse to associate with this person at all? Is this a revenge story - are they seeking revenge on their abuser? What do they want from their abuser? To be left alone, or to find some sort of closure?
    • So I’m going to handle this in two ways. The abuser being a present character in the narrative, and the abuser existing primarily as a figure in your characters’ past.
      • If your character still interacts with the abuser in the narrative, they should act in such a way that would hint at this past relationship. There will most likely be a sense of tension, but a lot of it is very dependent upon the individual personalities of your characters.
      • If the abuser exists as a distant figure in your character’s past, and you’re trying to keep it a secret, then your character would most likely avoid talking about this person, would skimp on the details about them in conversation. And the way they talk about them will probably have some tension to it, as well as leftover emotions, whether that be anger, sadness, etc.

Secrets, Scandals, and Hidden Things

  • Character’s secrets, alright, this is FUN. This is gonna be fun. So, when you’re dealing with characters secrets, there’s a lot of playing around with foreshadowing. The big thing about having secrets and revealing secrets is that you have to balance the information and the clues to the reader, so that when the big secret is revealed, the reader feels like they should have known the answer all along. You have to lay enough clues for it to make sense, but also direct attention away from what the real clues are to keep the tension and the secrecy, so that your big reveal is a Big Reveal. Thus, the power of misdirection. Capisce?
  • I’m gonna use the example of Wreck it Ralph and hope that nobody gets mad at me. [But I think it’s been enough time since the movie came out that anybody who would get genuinely pissed about Wreck it Ralph spoilers would have already seen the movie].
    • Alright - so the big ordeal in Wreck It Ralph, the big Oh Shit moment is that King Candy is actually Turbo. I’m gonna go through Wreck it Ralph, highlighting the more important scenes that lead up with this, to deconstruct the foreshadowing, and show you why it works. But here’s the big thing I want you to take away from this - secrets are all about the buildup.
    • “Goin’ Turbo”
      • So, in the Wreck It Ralph verse, it is made clear to the audience early on that a colloquial term commonly used to describe a game character trying to join another game is “going Turbo,” yes? Because it’s used so naturally, and it fits the atmosphere of the show, the arcade slang sort of feel, the audience is able to accept it without too much question, except maybe to wonder where the phrase originated. The phrase is explicitly used when Ralph himself goes off to find a metal, and the figures of his own game start freaking out because Ralph was “going Turbo.” This is the first big clue that is repeatedly laid for the audience.
    • The Introduction of King Candy
      • It is clear to us very early on that King Candy is, well…very particular about how things run in his game. And well, we kind of expect this - he is the King, after all. But his storyline and motivations are clearly tied to the heroine Vanellope’s as well, which is made clear very soon after we’re introduced to him. He refers to her as “The Glitch,” rather than calling her by name, and is adamant that she should not be allowed to race in the game. Now at this point, it is clear to the viewer that Vanellope is one of the characters we are supposed to be rooting for, and the fact that King Candy is clearly opposed to her achieving her goals as a main protagonist, he is now an antagonist - no surprise.

    • The Turbo Story
      • It isn’t until after we meet King Candy that we hear the origin of the phrase “Going Turbo” and what it means. Essentially, the phrase originated when the protagonist of a racing game that was at one time very popular got pushed to the side in favor of a new, high-tech game. Not to be defeated, Turbo abandoned his game and tried to take over the new one, thus coining the phrase. We as the audience are told that in consequence, both Turbo’s original game and the game he tried to take over got put out of commission, including himself. HERE IS THE KICKER: we as the audience are given a considerable amount of information necessary to put together that Turbo just might equal King Candy, BUT we are led to believe that this isn’t a possibility because Turbo “got himself put out of order for good.”
    • King Candy and his Dark Side
      • Now, this is a big scene in terms of King Candy’s storyline/backstory/relationship to Vanellope: the scene in which he ventures “into the code,” and adds the gold medal to his own personal cache of codes, so that he can take ownership of it. It’s a subtle play, because we as the audience are shown that King Candy’s code “box” (if you will) is at the biggest, and is at the center of everything. Because he’s the king, right? And at the end of the scene, we have a wide shot of the scene to reveal Vanellope’s code box, and it’s floating off the side, not connected to any of the boxes. Because she’s not supposed to be in the game, right? Because she’s a glitch, right? Huh.
      • The second half of this section deals with the scene in which King Candy goes to Ralph personally, and pleads with him to convince Vanellope not to race. He tells Ralph that if she does race, and if she wins, then she’ll be accessible by the actual human players of the game. In such case, if they see her “glitching”, they’ll thing the game is broken, and get it put out of order. Right? Once again, we have misdirection. I’m sure at this point, the audience doesn’t fully trust what King Candy is saying, but at the same time there is an emotional reaction to his words. Because we care about Vanellope and want her to succeed, it forces the audience to feel that emotional push-and-pull, distracting further from the fact that King Candy (spoiler alert) lied clean to everyone’s faces.
    • THE REVEAL
      • In a moment of high intensity, when we’ve reached the big climactic moment that is The Race, which is what Vanellope has been trying to get to for the entire film, it is revealed that King Candy is Turbo, done so because he gets caught up in Vanellope’s glitching, causing him to revert back to his originally coded form. We then learn of his true motivation - he wants to remain the top racer, as he was in his previous game, and he wants to maintain the power and thrill of that popularity. So he usurped Vanellope and changed the code so that everyone believed that she wasn’t supposed to exist, and that he was the rightful ruler of the game.

    • Why does it work?
      • It works because of the build up. All of the hints were laid out; Turbo’s backstory was set up early enough that it felt natural for the audience, and it gave us enough time to get comfortable with the information; when the scene did finally unfold, it felt so obvious that you could look back and see all the pieces click. And in the reveal, all of King Candy’s previously creepy behavior makes sense. There is emotional payoff.
  • What to take from this?
    • One of the most powerful ways to hide your hints and foreshadowing throughout your story is misdirection. Lay those hints, plant the seeds, but also do the work to direct the audience’s attention elsewhere, leading them to believe one thing, whilst building towards another.

“Eleven.”
Tim turned in his chair, confused. He wasn’t sure what the voice was talking about. It had been an exhausting couple of days— he wasn’t even sure who the voice belonged to.
“Eleven,” Damian repeated. “That’s the eleventh time you’ve yawned in—” he put his book down and swung his wrist above his head to check his watch. “—three minutes. Is something wrong?”
“If it’s bothering you, just go to a different room.”
“I was here first.”
In the grand scheme of things, no, Tim thought, you were not. He knew better than to say it out loud, though— Damian was eyeing him suspiciously from the couch, like he was ready to pick a fight. Tim had enough to deal with already.
He bent back over his case notes. If he finished with them in the next hour, he would be back on schedule for the first time in months— he could go check that crime scene by the docks and visit with his informants on the South Side. Probably try the piers after that, and then… Tim stretched his arms over his head. And then he would…
“Twelve.”
Oh my god. Tim swung around again and glared at his little brother. Damian didn’t seem to mind— he was flat on the couch with his book held above his face, reading peacefully.
“Did you sleep last night?” he asked, without looking up from his novel.
“No.”
“How about the night before?”
“You know we have three other living rooms, right? You could have any of them to yourself.”
“I’ll take that as a no.”
“Leave me alone, Damian. I’m working.”
“You should go to bed.” Damian turned slowly to look Tim in the eyes. “It’s not healthy to stay awake that long.”
“I didn’t know you cared.”
“You’re right.” Damian put down his book and pulled out his phone instead. “I don’t. Thanks for reminding me.” He started texting, ignoring Tim completely.
Fine. Tim went back to his files, careful not to yawn— he really was tired. He just needed to power through it, was all. He’d be fine if he kept going, and maybe got some caffeine. He would give a lot for some of that just now.
By a happy coincidence, at that moment, Jason stuck his head in the door.
“Yo I made coffee. Does anybody want some?”
Damian made the face he reserved for bat droppings, coffee, and Tim. “No.”
Tim held out an arm. “Give. Now.”
Jason handed him a mug and settled on the end of Damian’s couch. He watched Tim drain half his cup in one go (it was good coffee, okay?) very intently… too intently. Tim stared back at him.
“What?”
“What you doing?”
“I’m waiting.” Jason grinned down at Damian, who was still focussed on his novel.
“Waiting for what?”
Jason just smiled. Tim stifled another yawn— the caffeine wasn’t helping. He felt incredibly tired, worse than before, even. His eyes kept closing without his permission. He laid his head on the table for a few seconds. He was… wow… wait…
“That,” said Jason. “There we go. Mission accomplished.”
Tim peeled his face away from the tabletop. “Did you just—” He stared at Jason incredulously. “Did you just drug me?!”
“Don’t accept coffee from strangers.”
Damian looked up from his book. “Okay,” he said. “Now take him to his room.”
“Damian??” Tim couldn’t believe this. Of all the— He tried to resist as Jason scooped him up and threw him over a shoulder, but he couldn’t find the energy. They started down the hallway, with Damian trailing behind them, face still planted in his book. He knocked gently into the door frame on the way through and looked up to glare at the wall.
“Listen,” Jason asked him, “do I want to know why you’ve got this grade of sedatives lying around?”
“That, mostly.” Damian shrugged in Tim’s direction.
“You’ve done this before?” Tim dangled helplessly on Jason’s back. “I swear to God I’m going to— Bruce! Help!”
Bruce had poked his head out of a his own doorway. He squinted at the three of them like he was afraid to ask— Tim reached a hand in his direction.
“They drugged me!”
“Drake’s going to sleep now,” Damian informed his father, crossing his arms.
“I’m…” Bruce apparently decided that he didn’t want to deal with it, because he turned around and walked back into his room, shutting the door behind him.
“Hey!” Tim was— He wasn’t— How the hell— “Bruce, get me an antidote! Get me some different siblings!”
No response. Tim tried to punch Jason in the back, but he was so tired that it barely made an impact. Jason laughed at him as they pushed through his door.
“Keep trying.” He let Tim fall onto the bed. Damian handed him a blanket from the guest closet, and Jason threw it over Tim.
“There. Go to sleep.”
“I hate you so much.”
“We wouldn’t have to do this if you would take care of yourself.” Jason held out a hand for Damian to high five. “Zombie squad out.”
Damian ignored the hand. “No, Todd.”
They turned off the lights and left Tim alone, seething in the dark. In thirty seconds he was asleep.

hey, i don't know if you write smut, but in honor of the leaked scene, could you write a established!bughead drabble, where he climbs her window and is all flirty? (doesn't have to be smut tho, just a hot make out).. i love your writing btw

(Okay, a little disclaimer. First of all, this is not full on smut, it’s just a hot, slightly smutty make out. Second of all, I didn’t make it full on smut, not because I didn’t want to (believe me Cole tempts me to sin and sin badly) but because I didn’t feel that Bughead’s first time would be like that and I didn’t want to write a random smut without first writing about Jughead not being sure about his sexuality and him and Betty generally testing the waters and all of the other normal things teenagers go through. I intend to write something like that because, asexual Jughead or not, Betty and Jughead are two teens that have a natural naivety and a mutual respect to one another so I believe that, as we saw in the kiss too, they would be timid and taking their time with exploring what they are comfortable with and testing their limits. So I left that for another one-shot. As for the part that Jughead might be asexual. I respect that and I’m not trying to erase anything of his (possible) character here. For what I have read and heard from other ace people and friends, yes, he can still be asexual. Asexuality is a sexual orientation, sexual behavior does not change that. Like every other sexuality it has subcategories; the “I dislike sex”, the “I find it ok, but I do not engage in it often”, the “I’m asexual but my partner makes me feel good” etc.  In my mind, as I became older and kept reading the comics and understanding more about sexuality and educating myself on the topic, Jughead fell to the third category for me. That he was being somebody with maybe a lower level of sexual interest but with sexual drive nontheless. So that’s what I have in my mind while watching Riverdale and writing this one-shot and the possible others that will revolve around this topic in the future.

Sorry that was so long, I just wanted to set some things straight and by all means I’m not trying to offend anybody. Everybody ships what they want to ship and that’s perfectly ok! Ship wars are just tiring and pointless so everybody stay calm and respect everyone’s opinions. And if Jughead does end up being asexual with no need to engage in any sexual activities then sure, everyone should be again perfectly ok and not bitch and moan that he won’t get to have steamy scenes or anything. He is still going to be the most amazing guy in Rivedale either way!

End of my huge rant!! Hope you enjoy guys!! <3)

 Is your mom finally asleep?

I think so yeah. Why?

I’m coming up ;)

Betty locked her phone and shot up from her bed, abandoning her worn-out copy of Wuthering Heights pages first on the mattress and kicking her covers, a nervous excitement pouring down on her belly as she heard the familiar crack of careful footsteps on wood. She gave herself a quick once over on her vanity mirror, checking that her messy bun was intact and straightening her plain white t-shirt, before kicking off her bunny printed fuzzy socks of her feet and throwing them under her bed in a hurry. It wasn’t the fact that he wouldn’t appreciate them, he would and he would probably offer her that chuckle of his that set free a million butterflies inside her chest, but her toe nails were painted a lovely baby pink and it was a shame not to show them off, even though his focus would be on other places, more important ones. She felt her cheeks heating at that and she quickly grabbed her strawberry lip balm from her nightstand, applying some on her already soft lips with her ring finger, knowing that this taste mixed with her own always drove him crazy.

Since that day that Jughead had climbed up her window so for her to complain to him about her parents and her family situation, it seemed that this became a thing for them. At first, he was just sneaking up because they needed a quiet place to discuss investigation plans and theories, the office hours of Blue & Gold proving not to be enough. Now, two months after, the raven haired boy used that ladder almost every night to see his beautiful girlfriend, cuddle with her and watch movies and most importantly kiss her like she was the heavenly droplets of water on his always thirsty lips.
