doe patronus

Medium : Watercolors/Inks

In memory of Alan Rickman. He was one of my favorite actor, mostly for his role of Severus Snape.

I know he has done a lot of good movies, but when I was young I grew up with Harry Potter saga, and Snape was my favorite character.
I was so happy when they choose him for this role, I even didn’t wanted to see the last movies, because I wasn’t ready to say goodbye to my childhood.

But today, I had to say goodbye to him.

1946 - Always

Thank you for being awesome, thanks for making alive my favorite character ever.

(Put as elements for this drawing the doe patronus, veritaserum, wormwood and asphodel.)

Do you ever think about the difference between james and snapes’ patronuses? They are both undeniably linked to Lily.

Snape has a doe. Same as lily. A mirror of her. It may be perceived as romantic by some, but from where i’m standing it sound more like obsession to me. Stalkerish. He wanted her so bad, that his patronus changed into a representation of her.

James had a stag. We can deduce this was his original patronus, he was an animagus, and took the form of a stag, long before he started dating Lily. The stag mates with the doe. Solemate, a pair.

Now, J.K has said that the patronus changes only when it’s true love, and i wont argue that Snape love Lily in some twisted sick way.

But i think it«s preety obvious which on is her true match.

I. Love. This.

So much going on in this picture. We assume that Snape could see thestrals, given his participation in both the great wizarding wars, but given the presence of his patronus in this picture, it seems as though he is connecting his ability to see this thestral with his loss of Lily. It’s interesting because Harry couldn’t see the thestrals at the end of Goblet of Fire, and Rowling has said that was because he hadn’t come to terms with the death he had seen. This picture just seems like Snape greeting the creature with the sad truth that he will never see Lily again.

Side note: left hand side of the picture? A flash of red hair and a lily on the ground. The artist that did this is faaaantastic.

A Study On Patronuses

Ok so I’ve seen a lot of posts lately about James Potter’s patronus vs Snape’s patronus. People have been talking about how since James’s is a stag, he complements Lily, and it means he loves her, while Snape’s doe shows his obsession with her. (Obviously since Lily’s patronus is a doe) And there’s been talk about how “love is different than obsession and this is why Snape didn’t *really* love her, and that’s why she would always have chosen James blah blah.”

I’m not arguing the fact that she would’ve always chosen James. James and Lily have complementary patronuses. Lily is a doe, and James is a stag. Their patronuses were not influenced by each other, but they are a pair because they themselves fit as a pair. Their personalities and experiences make them alike and compatible.

But Snape having the same patronus as Lily doesn’t make him obsessed with her.

Expecto Patronum literally translates to “I await a guardian.”

A patronus takes the form of an animal, and the charm becomes semi-sentient, seemingly with a mind of its own.

The Patronus is a protector against dementors, which take good memories and leave only bad ones.

What form a person’s patronus takes is dependent on their personality, their experiences, and their good and bad memories.

Throughout his years at Hogwarts, Harry uses the idea of his father as a shield and almost like a security blanket. He decides to die on his feet, *like his father.*

He plays Quidditch, *like his father.*

He looks like his father. He “struts” like his father.

The idea of his father as a hero he can emulate gives him strength.

And Harry is very like his father. But he is also an individual, with a very different personality, and very different experiences.

Harry’s patronus isn’t a stag.

Harry’s patronus is his father.

His father is the guardian that he holds and the ideal and role model that he expects to see him through dark times.

When saving Sirius from the dementor’s kiss, his intention is to protect an innocent man, and his godfather, but more importantly his dad’s best friend. He draws on James and what he knows of him, and his patronus takes the form of a stag…

Not because he’s so like his father that they have the same patronus, but because James is Harry’s patronus.

That established, Snape’s patronus is a doe for similar reasons. Snape loved Lily. He was influenced by her. She was his happy memory. In dark times, Snape held on to the thought of Lily, as is apparent from his years of bitterness risking his life and protecting her son.

When Snape casts a patronus in the astronomy tower, Dumbledore asks, “Lily? After all this time?”

Snape’s patronus isn’t a doe because he’s obsessed with Lily.

His patronus *is* Lily. Lily is his unwitting guardian against the dark, just as James is for Harry.

Snape’s patronus may take the form of a doe, just as Harry’s patronus takes the form of a stag, but their patronuses are Lily and James.

And I don’t mean that the souls of Lily and James are chilling out around town to pop up and save Snape and Harry from dementors when the need arises, but the essence of Lily and James, the memory of them, the idea of them, the comfort they bring, are the patronuses. Snape’s patronus looks like a doe because Lily’s patronus is a doe and Snape’s patronus is Lily redeeming him. Harry’s patronus looks like a stag because James’s patronus was a stag and Harry’s patronus is his father protecting him.

Snape’s patronus being a doe doesn’t mean he’s obsessed with her. He loves her. His patronus is a doe because he sees Lily as his protector and his guardian, as he did in school, and as he “always” will.

These have been my feelings. Thank you very much.

Patronus analysis part 2

They are highly sensitive to and extremely aware of their surroundings and have a powerful ability to see through illusions. They tend to dive straight to the heart of matters, are extremely social and have strong familyties. They are nurturing, have good communications skills and use their sense of touch as part of communicating. They are very perceptive on a psychic level and are prone to having prophetic dreams. They are also highly adaptable to any situation they find theirselves in.

When in a group they know how to be an active listener, giving everyone a voice. Because of this, they’ll likely have very few (if any) “emotional collisions” with others.

They are not the types to have conforming personalities and rarely care what others think of them. They tend to get along best with other bats, and when they do socialize it is usually within this group, because they are most comfortable with others like themselves, unlikely to judge.

The most common houses for a bat patronus are Slytherin and Ravenclaw. The most common mbti types are INFJ,INTP,INTJ.

-Higher perspective
-Being fearless, audacious
-Flexibility, adaptability
-Trickster, manipulative

Crows are known to build their nests in very tall trees. Doing so, they can get a better vision or perspective on the rest of their surroundings. By affinity with this trait, those who have the crow as a spirit animal or totem will enjoy a position from where they can see things from a higher perspective.

They have a great deal of personal integrity. They work hard at being mindful of your opinions and actions and are willing to walk their talk, speak their truth and embrace their life’s mission. They shift through changes and phases of their life with effortless ease and are willing to swoop in on opportunities at a moments notice. They have a tendency to have no concept of time as a linear entity and know in theie heart that time is literally the existence of the past, present and future in a single moment.

The most common house for a crow patronus is Ravenclaw. The most common mbti types are ISTP,INTP,ISTJ,ISFP.

-Sensitive and intuitive

They are able to bring gentleness and grace in every aspects of their life, even in the most challenging moments. By inspiration from the deer’s qualities, they can achieve ambitious goals and tackle difficult situation smoothly with a touch of gentleness and grace.

They have the knowledge of how to use the power ofgentleness to touch the hearts and minds of the wounded beings in their life. They have a propensity to see new innocence and freshness in life everywhere and they constantly feel the lure of new adventures. Often They have a link to the arts, especially poetry and music.

They are also a keen observer, able to see well in lowlight. They are also a very compassionate, gentle and loving person.

The most common house for a doe patronus is Hufflepuff. The most common mbti types are ESFJ,ENFJ,ENFP,ISFJ.

-Playfulness and joy
-Inner Strength

They walk a fine balance between many things. They are the master of being in two worlds at once. They joyfully complete serious tasks, thry provide protection andguidance without putting themselves at risk and they have a generous spirit without needing to please. They understand balance, harmony, transcendence and community and use all these tools to create grace in their life.
They are strong and like to explore new things.
Their happiness is contagious, and their love knows no bounds. Dolphin people protect their families, particularly the young, sick or injured. Dolphin medicine, in this respect has a selfless element that understands that “community” matters and makes us stronger than we would be alone

The most common house for a Dolphin patronus is Hufflepuff. The most common mbti types are ENFP,INFP.

They are highly energetic and outgoing. They have an easy charm about them that draws other people in. Hyenas are great at taking charge of situations, and are by far most comfortable when they are in charge. While they are generally quite kind and thoughtful, they will stubbornly insist on things being done their way and expect others to follow. Luckily, others do tend to follow the leadership of this strong and intelligent sign who is more than capable of proving themselves worthy of the task.

They are likable, and tend to only conflict with others who challenge their social leadership. Even in social groups where everyone is equal, Hyenas tend to become the de facto leaders of the group simply because of their ease and charm. They usually pick the dates, times, and places where friends will meet up, and never miss a social gathering. They can be a bit bossy with friends, but those same friends also look to them for advice, help with projects, and someone who can lift their spirits.

The most common house for a hyena patronus is Slytherin. The most common mbti types are ESTP,ISTP,ENTP.

-Workaholic Tendency
-Ability to defend oneself

They have amazing energy and deep emotions. Now, this may sound odd considering Sharks pretty much have only one facial expression that we are aware of. But, with Water as their element, of course they are creatures of the dreamscape and the real of psychic awareness.

In this, Sharks are not void of emotion but, rather, complete masters of it. They do not wear their emotions on their fins but you may rest assured they “feel” a great deal.

Wherever Shark people swim it seems like opportunity is only a cresting wave away. Shark people have intense drive and enthusiasm. You come by it naturally. Remember, Sharks never stop moving.

You may find yourself wanting to travel and find challenging adventures.

The most common house for a shark patronus is Slytherin. The most common mbti types are ISTJ,ESTJ,ENTJ.

-Sharp intelligence
-Deep connection with instincts

They have the capacity to make quick and firm emotional attachments and they know how to trust their insights about these attachments. They prefer diplomacy and retreat over open hostility or fights. This is not because of cowardice, this is because of a powerful intelligence. Often their maintain a network of loyal friends and family for when the going gets tough.

They are often very competitive and can become upset if the pecking order is disturbed, especially if it happens in their own home.

Wolf always pays close attention to family and their inner circle. They speak and act from their heart.

Wolf people exhibit a wealth of gentility, compassion and benevolence.

Wolf is also a sensitive creature so watch your words and how you deliver them. The most common house for a shark patronus is Gryffindor. The most common mbti types are INFJ,ENFJ.

From the tip of his wand burst the silver doe: She landed on the office floor, bounded once across the office, and soared out of the window. Dumbledore watched her fly away, and as her silvery glow faded he turned back to Snape, and his eyes were full of tears.
“After all this time?”
“Always,” said Snape.

A few notes:

This is my own personal interpretation of Snape (sorry fangirls, I loved Alan Rickman’s Snape but I never felt he looked quite like how I pictured him). I always imagined him as having a more slender face and being younger. Hopefully that doesn’t keep you from appreciating it; this is one of the very few pieces where everything came out exactly as I intended, and I am very happy with it! :)  So, I would appreciate it if there was no complaining about how he doesn’t look like Alan Rickman, as he’s not supposed to look like him. :D  He may not look like your own personal idea of Snape–it’s impossible to capture everyone’s own personal idea of him–but it’s mine and I think you can at least tell who it is. :)

Originally the patronus was much brighter.  While this was pretty, it was definitely detracting from the piece as a whole.  It was overpowering Snape, and taking it from a piece about him to more like “Here’s a cool-looking doe with Snape in the background.”  Trust me when I say that as a piece, it overall works better without such a bright, glowy doe, as the two were REALLY competing for attention before.

Someone also mentioned that they didn’t think his scowl matched how he should be looking when casting his patronus (because he would need to summon his happiest memory).  While this may be true, this piece is meant to represent Snape’s overall character, and I almost exclusively imagine Snape scowling.  Plus, I think his scowl juxtaposes nicely against it–and it’s representative of Snape himself, as he has a tough outer exterior with his softer side hidden from the world.

The symbols in the seal behind him are potions, lilies, the symbol on the Defense Against the Dark Arts book, a snake and the Deathly Hollows symbol.  A little Easter egg: the cauldron bears the Roman numerals for the number “394.”  You can see more potions and things behind him, and a snitch is at the bottom as well (mostly just as a design filler and I liked how it looked there.) :D

Anyway, this was a pretty personal design for me as Snape’s one of my faves (the other is Luna).  I hope you guys like it too!

“But this is touching, Severus,” said Dumbledore seriously. “Have you grown to care for the boy, after all?” “For him?” shouted Snape. “Expecto Patronum!” From the tip of his wand burst the silver doe. She landed on the office floor, bounded once across the office, and soared out of the window. Dumbledore watched her fly away, and as her silvery glow faded he turned back to Snape, and his eyes were full of tears. “After all this time?” “Always,” said Snape.”
