doctor-who:-the-next-doctor

Unpopular opinion

Every time the BBC are looking for a new doctor it pisses me off when people are like

It MUST be a woman or it MUST be a black person or it MUST NOT be a straight person

Like no, fuck that shit, minorities and those who experience persecution should not be used as tokens to improve diversity.

The doctor should be cast on one basis only:

Whoever is best for the job

The decision should be made regardless of whether the actor is male, female, straight, gay, cis, trans, black, white etc

So I’m 80% sure I know who the new Doctor will be, here’s why:

First of all this entire season has been playing with the idea of a female Doctor. Everyone is surprised and reacts about Missy being female because she used to be a man, and at some point the Doctor says that time Lords are more fluid.

Finally, in the final episode, there were a huuuuge amount of hints:

The Doctor - “The future is female”

or

Bill - “You know how I’m usually all about women and kinda people my own age?”
The Doctor - “Yeah?”
Bill - “Glad you knew that”

So unless the writers are all about empty foreshadowing and empty promises, I think it’s safe to assume the next Doctor will be female.

And then, that’s where my theory actually starts.

So, in the fandom, there are currently two actors in the running for the role :  Kris Marshall

and Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

I’ll focus on Phoebe, because she’s female and given what I’ve just said with all the teasing (ever since Missy arrived, really), I think she’s more likely to become the new Doctor.

Here’s why: when the Doctor was starting his regeneration, Bill wept on his forehead, it woke him and his regeneration actually started from that tear. It shone brightly:

And throughout the season, especially the first episode and the season finale, tears played a major part: Bill got brought back from the dead with a tear, the girl told Bill she could “make [her] human again” because “it’s all just atoms you can rearrange any way you like”

Also, remember :

Where there’s tears, there’s hope

This sentence was uttered twice in the same episode. Oh and don’t forget this dialogue:

The Master - “Will the future be all girls?”
The Doctor - “We can only hope”

Now… There’s something very interesting about Phoebe Waller-Bridge…

Yup.

Yup, she has a birth mark on the left side of her forehead, right where Bill’s tear landed on the Doctor’s forehead.

Bill who made a point to remind the Doctor that she loved women her own age, Bill who made the Doctor feel guilty that she got transformed into a Cyberman, Bill whose tear made the Doctor remember all his recent female companion (+ Jack and Nardole), Bill whose tear brought the Doctor back to consciousness, Bill who’s a strong female character, not only a beige supporting one, Bill whose tears are a symbol of hope, and finally, hope which according to the Doctor is female…

So unless Moffat is playing one last trick on us, (and a cruel one at that), I guess it’s fairly safe to say that Phoebe Waller-Bridge is our next Doctor!

I rest my case.

Hello, she’s the Doctor

Peter Capaldi tribute - That’s Life

Tribute to the life and career of Peter Capaldi.

Not my usual tribute.  I blame the BBC.  At the end of the 9th series they made the 12th my favorite Doctor, The Husbands of River Song sealed the deal, and then they went and left me with no new Doctor Who for a whole year.  I spent 2016 mining Peter Capaldi’s past filmography.  He has had a remarkable career and is a remarkable actor.  This is one of the few times I’ve become a fan of an actor rather than a character or show and I am looking forward to seeing what he does next.

Song: That’s Life
Performer: Frank Sinatra
Writers: Dean Kay, Kelly Gordon

This was just done for fun, no copyright infringement is intended.
There are so many different movies and shows I’ve taken clips from I have no idea who has the rights to them.  I hope nobody minds that I’ve used them for this little tribute (considering how few views I get, it really shouldn’t matter).  Thanks much.

Wonderful tribute video for Peter! Love how each portion of the video is given a description of the show or film. That really helps!

One day, the Doctor shall come back. Yes, he shall come back. But for now, let’s have a #FlashbackFriday on this memorable date from 2013, when a new face to many faces of the Doctor was introduced to the world. On August 4, 2013, a TV special titled Doctor Who Live: The Next Doctor announced the arrival of the Twelfth incarnation of the Doctor. Out walked 55 year-old Scottish actor Peter Capaldi, ready to take on the challenge of both acceptance and rejection from the fans.

I had missed all of this, instead coming in during the premiere of Deep Breath on August 23, 2014, but even then I felt myself getting instantly hooked on this man’s intriguing, powerful, and emotional performances.

Without a doubt, Peter is the main reason I became fully interested in Doctor Who, and I know I’m not the only one that he recruited hundreds of new fans.

A small reminder - let’s not judge the actor who will play the next Doctor based solely on the actor’s identity (whatever it will be). Let’s wait and see how things turn out. Doctor Who is a tv show. We should watch the actual episode. Watch the actor perform. How they conceptualize the casting/the presentation of the Doctor and then think. Let’s not throw instant hates to what we don’t know yet. Let’s try to be fair for creators’ effort. After all, isn’t that what a fan could do best?
