BBC AMERICA Takeover at NYCC: Friday, October 7 at The Theater at Madison Square Garden

The BBC AMERICA panels on Friday, October 7 will be in a new venue for the convention – The Theater at Madison Square Garden. For the first time ever, NYCC will present panels for its biggest lineup of film and TV programs in this iconic venue. The line-up announced today will include Class, Doctor Who, Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency and The Walking Dead.

BBC AMERICA presents the first ever US panel for new series Class, the Doctor Who spin-off, set in Shoreditch, London.  Four Coal Hill School students who have hidden secrets and desires, navigate a life of friends, parents, school work, sex, sorrow – and possibly the end of existence. Fear is coming, tragedy is coming, war is coming. From award-winning YA writer and Class creator and executive producer Patrick Ness (A Monster Calls) and executive produced by the team behind Doctor Who, Steven Moffat and Brian Minchin,the series stars exciting young new talents Greg Austin, Fady Elsayed, Sophie Hopkins and Vivian Oparah. Coal Hill School has been a part of the Doctor Who universe since the very beginning, but that has come at a price. Time travelling over the years has caused the very walls of space and time to become thin. There’s something pressing in on the other side, something waiting for its chance to kill everyone and everything, to bring us all into Shadow. The panel includes stars Greg Austin, Fady Elsayed, Sophie Hopkins and Vivian Oparah. as well as writer and creator Patrick Ness and executive producer Brian Minchin (Doctor Who, Torchwood). BBCA’s Class is a BBC Cymru Wales production for BBC Three and a BBC AMERICA and BBC Worldwide co-production.

BBC AMERICA’s Doctor Who star Peter Capaldi will make his New York Comic Con debut along with the first ever fan appearance by new co-star Pearl Mackie, who joins the series as Bill, the Doctor’s new companion. When Pearl joined the cast, Emmy-winning lead writer and executive producer Steven Moffat teased “a new voyage is about to begin” and “this is where the story really starts.” Fans will get a sneak peek of what’s ahead including the upcoming Christmas Special this December on BBC AMERICA and hints on what’s in store for Steven Moffat’s final season as showrunner. The panel includes stars Peter Capaldi (The Thick of It) and Pearl Mackie (The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time), as well as Steven Moffat (Sherlock) and executive producer Brian Minchin (Class, Torchwood). Doctor Who is a BBC Cymru Wales production for BBC One and a BBC AMERICA co-production.

BBC AMERICA presents the world premiere screening and Q&A for its next original series Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, ahead of its broadcast premiere on October 22. From the studio that brought you The Walking Dead, BBC AMERICA’s Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency is an adaptation of the novels from Douglas Adams (Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Doctor Who).

When the bizarre murder of a millionaire thrusts loner Todd (Elijah Wood), into the orbit of Dirk Gently (Samuel Barnett) – an eccentric detective who believes they’re destined to solve the murder-mystery together – his life will never be the same. They’ll cross unlikely paths with a bevy of wild and dangerous characters, each episode landing them a few random steps closer to uncovering the truth. Writer and executive producer Max Landis (Chronicle, American Ultra) and showrunner Robert Cooper (Stargate Atlantis, Stargate Universe) will join stars Samuel Barnett (Penny Dreadful), Hannah Marks (The Amazing Spiderman), Jade Eshete (Dead Beat), Mpho Koaho (Falling Skies) and Fiona Dourif  (Manhattan) for a panel following the exclusive sneak peek screening. BBCA’s Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency is a co-production of AMC Studios, IDEATE MEDIA and IDW Entertainment with Circle of Confusion producing.

Whouffle ---> Whouffaldi

The Doctor is the same individual. He just changes his face and personality. The Doctor played by Matt is the same Doctor played by William played by Jon played by John played by Tom played by Peter. You know the drill.

Whouffle (one of the numerous names for the Eleven x Clara romance, and the one I subscribe to for simplicity) has gotten some well-deserved extra publicity from Matt Smiths’s comments at NYCC after fading into the background a little bit after Matt regenerated, to be replaced by Whouffaldi.

The thing I like to remember is Whouffle (or whatever name you prefer) and Whouffaldi are the same thing. It’s all Doctor and Clara. The Doctor’s feelings for Clara never changed. Peter’s Doctor could have just as easily been the one to stay up all night protecting Clara from the Spoonheads and building the quadracycle in the Maitlands’ driveway and Matt’s Doctor could have been the one punching the diamond wall for 4.5 billion years in the ultimate act of pure love.

It’s all the same and it’s all wonderful. The Doctor x Clara - one of the greatest romances to play out on TV in recent times, granted in an unconventional fashion. But, really, when do the Doctor and Clara ever play by the rules?
