“Our brains are just like yours, except…”

The Tenth Planet - season 04 - 1966

The first incarnation of the Cybermen is a truly terrifying one. So human-looking and yet so far removed from humanity, these were the Mondasians who, fearing the inevitable aging and frailty that comes with being human, turned to technology in order cheat death. But in doing so, the children of Mondas recreated themselves as a race of electric mummies and lost many of the essential qualities that defines being human.

Their mannerisms are what disturb the most; they are emotionless, cold and calculating, unhurried and supremely confident in their superiority over the Earthlings present. They’re patronizing and condescending towards their hostages, and yet rather patient and strangely polite.

Series 10 has REALLY missed a trick by not having weekly minisodes of the Doctor and Missy sat together in the Vault, eating their Mexican takeaway, watching Terminator (and the other films on “the list”), and… various other things.

So close (yet so far away) - Unbeknownst to each other, Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman were both on the same red carpet for the BAFTA TV awards on May 12, 2013. But, of course, the two had yet to even meet at this point in time. It wasn’t until later in the year (July) that Matt and Jenna were told that Peter had been chosen as the next Doctor and that history would soon be made.

I do wonder, however, if this event was where Steven Moffat first approached Peter about playing the Doctor. Seeing the Daleks, Jenna and Peter roaming the same autograph line may have set Steven’s thoughts in motion. Who knows?

P.S. It’s too bad the paparazzi didn’t catch Peter and Jenna in the same frame. What a picture that would have made.

One day, the Doctor shall come back. Yes, he shall come back. But for now, let’s have a #FlashbackFriday on this memorable date from 2013, when a new face to many faces of the Doctor was introduced to the world. On August 4, 2013, a TV special titled Doctor Who Live: The Next Doctor announced the arrival of the Twelfth incarnation of the Doctor. Out walked 55 year-old Scottish actor Peter Capaldi, ready to take on the challenge of both acceptance and rejection from the fans.

I had missed all of this, instead coming in during the premiere of Deep Breath on August 23, 2014, but even then I felt myself getting instantly hooked on this man’s intriguing, powerful, and emotional performances.

Without a doubt, Peter is the main reason I became fully interested in Doctor Who, and I know I’m not the only one that he recruited hundreds of new fans.

anonymous asked:

Wth u ship the doctor and Clara ?? bLOCKED. JK but yea there's so many age gap issues in media that people ship yet will bash another show for it, it's just terrible

Yep lol and I learned to ignore the dissenters long ago lmao. As long as both members of a ship are adults and mentally capable of consent, I don’t have a problem with it lol. And also, who wouldn’t ship The Doctor and Clara tho??? It’s honestly the best slow-burn romantic story that I’ve ever seen.

“It’s funny, I thought, if you could hear me, I could hang on, somehow. Silly me. Silly old Doctor. When you wake up, you’ll have a mum and dad, and you won’t even remember me. Well, you’ll remember me a little. I’ll be a story in your head. But that’s OK: we’re all stories, in the end. Just make it a good one, eh? Because it was, you know, it was the best: a daft old man, who stole a magic box and ran away. Did I ever tell you I stole it? Well, I borrowed it; I was always going to take it back. Oh, that box, Amy, you’ll dream about that box. It’ll never leave you. Big and little at the same time, brand-new and ancient, and the bluest blue, ever. And the times we had, eh? Would’ve had. Never had. In your dreams, they’ll still be there. The Doctor and Amy Pond… and the days that never came ..”

Times of their lives - Here’s one of my favorite moments from the Matt & Jenna era of Doctor Who. In March 2013, the two did a photo shoot for the digital version of the Times Magazine in the U.K. The cover shot showcased a very innovative use of the Doctor’s sonic screwdriver. Clever!

P.S. Peter Capaldi once said that Jenna Coleman “is a star…an absolute Audrey Hepburn!” Judging by this short video on YouTube, Peter is exactly right.
