keith wants to become the person shiro believes he can be, but if you think keith ever wants to genuinely strip shiro of his role and replace him all whilst he’s missing and out there then honestly i don’t know what to tell you.
he wants to step up, not step in. nobody can replace shiro keith knows this and wholeheartedly embraces this to his very core. he’ll do things his own way and he would never want to take shiro out the equation. never. im tired so im not gonna meta hardcore rn but dw this is a subject i’ll elaborate on.
anyway this is never the way keith envisaged this part of his own journey and growth, this is not the way he wanted to reach that plane where shiro sits bc atm, and do right by shiro and the team and the mission which he gives everything to, he doesn’t quite believe they can possibly be equals. it’s not idolisation, it’s respect and reverence and care and devotion to this one person who is so integral to so much of his life - and i think that’s exactly why his arc in s3 is bloody brilliant.
