dividing opinions

OKAY SO IF YOU DON’T LIVE IN DENVER, COLORADO, USA, YOU MAY OR MAY NOT KNOW ABOUT THE GIANT DEMON HORSE aka BLUECIFER aka CABALLO DIABLO

first things first, gaze upon this majestic fucker:

and, in case you felt like sleeping tonight, gaze upon him again:

this is denver international airport’s fabled demon horse, a gigantic 32-foot, 9000-lb statue embodying the terror and eldritch nature of death itself. locals have lovingly nicknamed it “bluecifer”, because we love our murder child

and i do mean murder

in case the GLOWING RED EYES staring into your soul weren’t enough to tell you old bluecifer is bad news, you should know that in the process of its construction the thing was responsible for the death of its creator. part of it injured him fatally.

we welcome people to the state of colorado with a murderous demon horse that haunts your nightmares for the rest of time. we’re a nice place, really

people are divided on their opinions of the thing for obvious reasons, but for those of us that enjoy having an elder god living on our doorsteps, someone has created and runs a twitter account for bluecifer that acts… well, exactly the way you’d expect a giant blue murder horse should

all hail our horse overlord

anonymous asked:

I don't know if you've discussed this before, but what are your views on Scarlet Johanson being cast as the lead in GitS? I know lots of people believe this to be white washing, but there are divided opinions.

I’m of the firm opinion that Hollywood making a Ghost in the Shell adaptation is iffy in the first place when the original manga is so intrinsically tied to Japanese history. The manga itself was a reflection and reaction to post-war Japan’s economic dependence on technology, and a lot of its power comes from the emotional nuance that the author threaded into its story as someone who grew up in that time period. One of the primary themes of the manga is how technology blends with Eastern philosophy. The fact that Hollywood decided to grab at the monumental task of adapting this franchise without understanding the weight of it offends me as a storyteller. Even then, I might have watched it if the cyberpunk aesthetic was pretty enough.

However, in my view, proceeding to cast Scarlett Johansson as the main character is nothing short of a disgrace. In the end, that is the reason why I am choosing to not watch the film. Now, hang onto your hat, anon, this is going to be a long ride under the cut:

The kea is beautiful, intelligent, hilarirous..and in serious trouble.  In the last decade kea numbers have plummeted, and there are many reasons why.  Like many New Zealand species, the kea has been greatly affected by invasive mammalian predators such as rats, stoats, and possums.  A study has shown that only about two thirds of kea chicks survive to fledging due to nest raids by these predators.  Unfortunately, government efforts to eradicate these creatures are also affecting the kea, as the curious birds will often consume poisoned bait and be caught in traps.

The kea’s curiosity and intelligence may also work against it.  Many kea have died from lead poisoning, as they will chew on the roofs and gutters of old buildings, which often contain lead.  In addition, chewing on buildings and cars leads kea into increasing conflict with humans.

Humans are deeply divided in their opinion about the kea, and both of them can be harmful.  Many people love the kea, and travel to the national parks just to see them.  These same people, however, charmed by the kea’s fearlessness, will feed them unsuitable and harmful foods such as chips, ice cream, and chocolate.  This also encourages the kea to seek out people, which can lead them to approach those on the other side of the spectrum.  For other humans consider the kea a terrible nuisance due to its attacks on sheep and destructive nature.  Despite protection by the government, many locals still actively hunt and shoot kea.

There may be as few as 1000 kea left in the wild.

My favorite lyrics from divide

  • Castle On The Hill: These people raised me and I can't wait to go home

  • Shape of You: Last night you were in my room and now my bedsheets smell like you

What do you think the good reasons to hate Trump are, then?

He’s an authoritarian nutcase. He abuses executive power. He doesn’t understand how the economy works. He’s a nationalist. He alienates other foreign leaders for no reason. He thinks he can run a country like he runs he businesses: doing whatever the hell he wants with no regard for consequences and punishing all who oppose him. He thinks if a poll doesn’t agree with him it’s automatically fake news (polling practices are far from perfect, but even the FOX poll shows a sharp divide in public opinion for his “extreme vetting”). He held up green card holders from their families and livelihood. He has said all manner of vile things about women. He launched his campaign with faulty statistics about immigrant crime rates. He suggested an unconstitutional religious test for citizenship. He suggested killing the families of terrorists. He has advocated for limitations of first amendment rights and freedom of the press. He routinely lies. He makes claims with absolutely no foundation. He’s a blustering populist with no regard for the Constitution or basic human decency. And he has really bad hair.

Wizarding Schools (3/11) - Castelobruxo

“ The Brazilian school for magic, which takes students from all over South America, may be found hidden deep within the rainforest. The fabulous castle appears to be a ruin to the few Muggle eyes that have ever fallen upon it (a trick shared by Hogwarts; opinion is divided on who got the idea from whom). Castelobruxo is an imposing square edifice of golden rock, often compared to a temple. Both building and grounds are protected by the Caipora, small and furry spirit-beings who are extraordinarily mischievous and tricky, and who emerge under cover of night to watch over the students and the creatures who live in the forest. Former Castelobruxo Headmistress Benedita Dourado was once heard to laugh heartily, on an exchange visit to Hogwarts, when Headmaster Armando Dippet complained of Peeves the poltergeist. Her offer to send him some Caipora for the Forbidden Forest ‘to show you what trouble really is’ was not accepted.”

We want peace within the riverdale community!

We’re only 6 episodes In and the shipping wars have already caused so much destruction through the fandom and it’s really bothering me. Don’t get me wrong, I adore teen wolf, but it turned into a battle ground over [especially stydia and stalia] shipping wars. It was horrible to see such a community divided by the harsh opinions on each others ships. I really want us to be able to come together as a fandom and appreciate the talent of the actors and the incredible show that we are all so committed to. Repost if you agree♥ #RiverdaleStrong #WeWontBeDivided

A new meta with a strange ability has public opinion divided on whether she’s a menace or a miracle-worker. The jury’s still out on the matter when the Snart siblings get caught in her crosshairs.

Or: Leonard and Lisa end up temporarily de-aged. It’ll wear off, but in the meantime, Team Flash has to figure out what the heck to do with them and how to keep them safe. Inviting them to live at the West house seems like a natural, if terrible, solution.

Baby Daddy (Series)

PART I. PART II.

News about the baby had spread among your peers by the next morning. Some who have been misinformed sent congratulatory gifts to the hospital and your phone was filled with congratulatory messages as well.

The biggest obstacle was to confine the information as close as possible in the hopes that the media would not be able to catch on the fact that Jay Park, CEO of a trendy hiphop label, had found an abandoned child at his family’s restaurant.

Amidst all the noise that was occupying your head, you were still wrapping your it around the fact that Jay was taking everything like it was not a big deal. There was something wrong and you could feel it in your gut but could not possibly put your finger as to what it was.

You paced the hallway outside the hospital room trying to push aside unwanted thoughts. You took a deep breath and exhaled sharply and went back inside the room.

Everyone else had either gone home or went to work except for you and Jay.

Divided tanks are a risk and you shouldn’t even try them. If you want two bettas, get two tanks. If you can’t afford two tanks? You get one betta. You’re not obligated to a fish and you shouldn’t place two fish in an unsafe position in order to have two bettas.

Sixteen years before Elizabeth’s own natural death in old age, Mary was beheaded at the age of forty-four. That one act of regicide, a queen killing a fellow queen, a mythology of justification, romance, accusation and blame has been spun that retains its force to the present day. Of all the monarchs of these islands it is Elizabeth I and Mary Queen of Scots who most stir the imagination. They divided powerful opinion in their lifetimes and were the focus of passionate debate in the centuries that followed their deaths. Murderess, ‘whore’, daughter of the devil were epithets flung at both queens by their detractors, while their supporters claimed Elizabeth as hero and saviour, Mary as martyr and Saint. It was the relationship between them that heightened these extremes of partisan feeling. Even in death, through history and myth, they continued locked together in complex rivalry, somehow embodying the ancestral character and mutual suspicion of their respective kingdoms.

- Elizabeth & Mary by Jane Dunn

So one of the questions during Misha’s panel at Phoenixcon was about the “rumours” pertaining to an “AU!Cas” and how that Cas would be different.

Misha asked the person where they got the rumours from (it was you, Misha, during JIB smh) and the person responded “Twitter” and then there was some back-and-forth about how Twitter was a very unreliable source (which is true).

But then he said “I wouldn’t put too much stock in those rumours.” and that was it. That’s pretty much all he had to say about it. Which makes sense seeing as he probably hasn’t seen a single script aside from the Scooby Doo one yet, so he honestly doesn’t know.

I know there’s a lot of spec about this and opinions are divided, which is fine, that’s always part of the fun. I personally don’t think we’ll get to see an AU!Cas. I think when they bring Cas back he’ll be different somehow, because as Misha did say during JIB: what’s important about Cas’s death is how it will transform him. Maybe he’ll be human. Maybe he’ll be something else completely controlled by Jack the nephilim. But he’s not just gonna come back exactly the same, that would be kinda pointless.

But an AU!Cas from bizarro world? I doubt it. I don’t think they need to introduce an AU!Cs to tell their story. But hey, I could be wrong. Maybe we’ll have an AU!Cas who will interact with Mary/Luci (Bobby?) but never with Sam & Dean. Maybe he’ll even be in a different vessel. But yeah, my money’s on not seeing AU!Cas at all.

Man this hellatus is really dragging on and it hasn’t even been a month yet!

How does Aarush Fawkes feel about Omnics? He comes from a background where there may have been a divide in opinion, so I'm curious what sort of opinion he formed on them, through influence and self-discovery. (I like his whole name, ahah.)

To reiterate, we all know jamison has prejudice/discriminatory feelings for Omnics, while satya (tho i am unsure if there is any canon proof of this, but I’m just assuming ) has no ill feelings towards them.

Within the household, Aarush grew up with these two very different view points. But as he learned more of his world and gained more knowledge, his views on Omnics themselves have settled in positive light. He understands his father’s view point on why he has an inherent hate for them, but Aarush’s beliefs settle on bridging those prejudice feelings and to learn and respect others for their differences.

Aarush Fawkes everyone. o/

anonymous asked:

I have to disagree with the previous anon, I mean I get why people think that ereri can't be canon. That is a possibility. But look at all the official art, The ereri novel created by Isayama himself plus all the hints in the manga. Why would they all exist if there wouldn't be a chance? I think that there is a chance that it will become canon, I just don't know how big it is. We need to believe 🙏

Anonymous said: I’m aware that Ereri will never be canon, and at this point, has to be one of the most sunken ships in this fandom. It pains me to admit this sad truth and I don’t like to be pessimistic about my otp because I love Ereri so much it hurts. But I have to face reality. BUT. I would AT LEAST want Isayama to make them interact more. I would beg for one more touching moment between them. Shake hands, give each other a friendly hug Idk just let them PLEASE TALK because they never do. :’(

Anonymous said: do you think isayama will give ereri a shot to be canon?

I had several asks regarding the same thing both here and on my main, so I’m putting them together. This seems to be a popular subject atm :P. (There was a 4th one but I won’t post it since it wasn’t appropiate for this blog, but if you read this anon, this response works for you too.)

Well, like I was saying the other day, this shows how the opinions are divided lol.

But that’s alright. There’s people who want to believe it can be canon. And the possibility is still there. As long as they are both alive, there’s a chance!

And there’s also people who think that it’s not possible for a manga like this to make any ship canon. We have to always remember what kind of manga SnK is, and it’s definitely not a romance focused one. And that point of view is perfectly valid too.

And what do I think? Well… it depends on the day. Some days when I re-read or re-watch their interactions, and all the canon stuff, visual novel, interviews, etc… I think it might definitely be possible for them to get somewhere. But then, I also am up to date with the recent chapters, interviews with Isayama saying he wants to end the manga as soon as possible, and things like that… and I think that there might not be enough time for it, or simply Isayama won’t take the time to focus on something like that. I really don’t know!

On top of that I don’t want to be dissapointed, so I always try to not expect anything to not have my heart broken later, especially with ships.

But I have to disagree with the statment saying that Ereri is one of the most sunken ships in this fandom… I don’t see it like that at all! In canon, they’re still in good terms even if they went through a very difficult situation, and in fandom, is still the most popular ship!

The only problem is that because of how the manga has progressed, it’s been a long time since they had any meaningful interaction. And if we look at the anime, we have the same situation but in reverse: it’s going to be a while until their next moments get animated. So right now things are a bit slow in that sense. But trust me, once we get to the good stuff, the fandom will be all over it again ^^.

But well, whatever it happens, remember that it’s not good to obsess about any ship being canon. What makes Ereri great, it’s not only what happens in the manga. I’m very thankful to Isayama for creating this amazing story and characters! But the fandom made them even better, with their stories, art, headcanons, etc. The Ereri we love is going to keep existing no matter what happens on Isayama’s manga.

Like I was saying to a friend the other day, SnK is just a story, like any other. But there are thousands of stories out there where Eren and Levi are together and happy, really good stories! The only difference is that they’re not official, but at the end of the day, does that even matter that much? Both are just stories. As long as they bring you happiness, they’re as good as any official stuff for me ;).

Turnbull Early-Printed Fragments 1: Letter from the Pope

Following on from our most recent post about unidentified early-printed leaves held by the Alexander Turnbull Library here is the first - and what may turn out to be our most interesting - identification.

This bifolium is part of a lengthy letter written by Pope Pius II (1405-1464) and addressed to the Ottoman sultan Mehmed II better known as Mehmed the Conqueror (1432-1481).

In what is known as his ‘Epistola ad Mahumetem’, Pius sought to convert the sultan to Christianity by attempting to convince Mehmed that Christ was the redeemer. Although it is agreed the letter was never sent, scholarly opinion remains divided over Pius’s true motivation for writing it.

The letter was originally written in 1461 and first published in Cologne in 1464. The Turnbull fragment comes from an edition printed in Rome by Stephan Plannck around 1490. Plannck is perhaps best known as the printer of the 1493 Latin translation of Christopher Columbus’s letter describing his discoveries in the New World the previous year.
