Banana leaf wraps and gowns from Dita Sandico Ong
(Pages from Sense and Style July 2011)
Indigenous fabrics have a long way to go in terms of being accepted as mainstream pieces (actually it’s far from practical to imagine that happening!), but I admire local designers for continually coming up with ways to make these materials more covetable as “novelty” or “special-occasion” garments. I think it’s a pretty good start.
I’m fascinated with how structured yet fluid the pieces look… I imagine them being perfect for a sci-fi movie.
Note to self: I’ll wear something like this to my wedding (in like x years)!
