disney: the lion king

Lion King remake casts Donald Glover as Simba, James Earl Jones as Mufasa

In the first sign that Disney’s new take on The Lion King is moving forward since it was originally announced back in September, director Jon Favreau has taken to his Twitter feed to start announcing the cast for the new film.

Donald Glover is set to voice the main role of Simba this time around, taking on the part from Matthew Broderick, while James Earl Jones is to reprise his role as the powerful Mufasa (because honestly, no one else would be allowed to, anyway!)

The Lion King is the latest Disney animated classic the studio to be given the live-action treatment, following the likes of Cinderella and Beauty and the Beast which is out next month. While there are no human characters in the story, Favreau plans to bring the animation to life with the same CGI techniques he used on his critically-acclaimed live-action version of The Jungle Book last year.

In addition to Simba, Glover is taking on another iconic role, playing Lando Calrissian in the young Han Solo Star Wars spinoff, which is currently filming. Jones, well known as a Star Wars veteran, reprised his voice work as Darth Vader in December’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Day 5: Animal Kingdom

Our final park! It was the coldest morning of the week, but it didn’t stop us from being excited and full of energy for the sure to be awesome day! The scenery in this park was so damn beautiful it made me gasp in awe. It’s hard to believe such a place even exists! During the day we saw lots of animals, too! I don’t personally approve zoos, but I was pleasantly surprised how much room (most of) the animals had! Lots of open space instead of small caged areas!

But the characters in Animal Kingdom, though. The actors did such an amazing job portraying the characters! It was so much fun to watch Baloo and Louie goofing around, and Flik was just the clumsy, happy over achiever that he is! And Rafiki was such a friendly creature taking everyone into a hug like we were family! All of these guys made me so happy! Terk was such a cutie, touching my leaf earrings and wondering what they are. Tarzan made a note that I must climb trees a lot since I got leaves stuck on my ears. Too bad that the last time I climbed a tree was probably in my teenage years. :D But probably the  most anticipated moment of mine during the whole day: getting to meet my favorite Disney Princess, Pocahontas. Ever since I first saw Pocahontas the movie when I was 4 years old, I have admired her independence, strength and wisdom. She has been a huge inspiration to me and even paved the way in my life to some extent. She is not just a Princess, she is also my Queen. (And compared to the other princesses, she is just way too underappreciated!)

Earlier today I was at work and Can You Feel The Love Tonight came on the radio and this was my very first thought! The funny thing is, within minutes of showing my friends my idea, they saw someone else on Tumblr had had a similar idea that hadn’t been drawn yet! Weird coincidence! I guess Viktor and Yuri aren’t the only ones just plain waiting for those two to sort it out.
