disney songbook

One day each month,

a bar near my house does a Disney sing-along night. I went for the first time, expecting it would be some kind of themed karaoke.

This old man shows up at the bar with about twenty questionably-bound books of Disney lyrics. And these books, you guys - I know they must be photocopies, but I swear it looks like he painstakingly hand-lettered every one.

Anyway. We take our seats, and this guy proceeds to play us through the Disney songbook while the entire bar belts out the songs. Everybody.

This is a magical experience. If you can find someone where you live who is willing to play piano for a bunch of nostalgic drunks, you should definitely do it.

I never had any musical education whatsoever, so I had neither fun nor boring times. But since I decided to learn the basics of singing at the ripe age of 25, at least nobody ever tried to tell me what to do, and I aggressively bought Disney songbooks, and begged my singing teacher for Melodies of Life with a sad puppy face and the official notesheet from the OST. Of course she had no idea what Final Fantasy even is about, but we did it anyway, I’m so blessed

I have so much sheet music that I’ve pulled from transcription sites over the years, if I ever get myself to take lessons like I’ve been wanting I’d probably bring, like, an entire binder, hahah.

Were you there? What songs were your favorite(s)? Any you wish they had played?

there are only a few people that know THIS is my all-time favorite song. sung by Wayne Brady with Jim Brickman on the piano. my mom told me that this would make a good wedding song…and since that day its the song that i would want at my wedding. all this sentimental-ness is weird…but seriously i LOVE this song. :)

Charlie sits at the piano in one of the practice rooms on campus. A Joplin piano book as well as a few Disney songbooks sit on top of the piano. Blank and partly filled in sheet music is every year else. Charlie plays Maple Leaf Rag before stopping the middle and finding the correct piece of sheet music to write something down.
