Wreck-It Ralph 2 will Feature the Disney Princesses – and Many of Their Original Voice Actors!

THR reports: Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2, the sequel to the 2012 Oscar-nominated video-game-world-set hit, is slated to open Nov. 21, 2018, it was announced at D23, the Disney expo taking place in Anaheim.

Sarah Silverman (the voice of Vanellope von Schweetz), along with directors Rich Moore (who won an Oscar earlier this year for Zootopia) and Phil Johnston, were onstage to present a clip from the movie — a clip that drove the assembled crowd of roughly 7,000 into wild cheers.

The clip showed Vanellope, in a website named OhMyDisney.com, meeting all the Disney princesses in the hopes of stirring up some trouble. But as she interacts with them — in ways that, in rapid succession, lovingly skewer the history and tropes of Disney animated classics and princesses — she develops a respect for them. And she gives them a wardrobe change.

Many of the original voices of the princesses returned for the scene, and those actresses then made an appearance at the presentation. Jodi Benson (Ariel), Paige O'Hara (Belle), Linda Larkin (Jasmine), Irene Bedard (Pocahontas), Anika Noni Rose (Tiana), Mandy Moore (Rapunzel), Kelly Macdonald (Merida), Auli'i Cravalho (Moana) and Kristen Bell (Anna) took the stage in a historic meeting of Disney princesses, causing a prolonged ovation from the crowd.

Who are the Disney Princesses? A breakdown.

With everyone excited for the Disney Princesses in Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2, I thought I’d do a quick break down of who are official Disney Princesses and who are not.

First we have the official princesses: Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora, Ariel, Belle, Jasmine, Pocahontas, Mulan, Tiana, Rapunzel and Merida. These princesses are either born royal, or marry into royalty. Mulan, while not falling into either of these categories is an official princess due to her fitting the “Disney Princess Mythology”, as well as adding much needed diversity to the lineup. Essentially any Disney Princess in the Disney Princess Franchise qualifies because Disney said so, regardless of their title or which studio they came from (like Merida).

Next up we have the “official” unofficial Disney Princesses; these are the princesses who are merchandised and marketed along side the other princesses yet still belong to their own film franchises; we have Anna and Elsa from Frozen, and Moana. These characters are technically not Disney Princesses as they haven’t been officially coronated.

Vanellope Von Schweetz is an honorary Disney Princess as confirmed by Rich Moore. Time will tell if she will be marketed in the same vain as Anna, Elsa and Moana currently are and made an “official” unofficial Disney Princess, but for now she stands on her own.

The remaining characters are either rejects from the original Princess lineup (Esmerelda, Tinkerbell, Jane, and Giselle), or forgotten characters by Disney due to poor box office or critical reception (Eilonwy, Megara and Kida).

Animal characters like Nala and Maid Marian may be royalty, but they are not added due to their lack of marketing potential as animals and lack of continuity among the other princesses.

Tiger Lily isn’t a member of the franchise due to the fact that she’s not a prominent character in Peter Pan and she is also much to controversial to market due to the time period in which the film was released.

Princesses who were introduced in a sequel do not count, like Melody, Kiara, etc, nor do princesses introduced through television like Sofia the First or Elena of Avalor.

So to sum it all up, the Disney Princesses are Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora, Ariel, Belle, Jasmine, Pocahontas, Mulan, Tiana, Rapunzel, Merida, Anna, Elsa, Moana, and Vanellope Von Schweetz. This is what Walt Disney Animation Studios recognizes as the members of the Disney Princess group, not what the franchise does, but personally I’ll take the word of the original company that produced all [except one] of these films.

D23 Animation Run Down

- We got to see and hear Josh Gad perform a song from Olaf’s Frozen Adventure.

- Jokes about Frozen 2 title with Kristen Bell. Not much else but a few clips of the crew’s research trip sadly

- Wreck it Ralph Break the Internet brought out Sarah Silverman to explain the new plot and an exclusive scene featuring the Disney Princesses hanging out with Vanellope von Schweetz. WHICH WAS AMAZING and they got most of the original Princess voice actors. Most of which they brought on stage. Aaaannnnd a new character named Yesss voiced by Taraji P Henson.

- Incredibles 2 we got to see the new character models as well as meet the returning voice cast. Especially Samuel L Jackson and the new voice actor of Dash. They had a rough rough scene to show us about Jack Jack vs a Racoon that showcased some of his powers. Also Bob/Mr Incredible figuring out he has powers. The Parr family has a swanky new house and this movie should put Elastic Girl/ Helen in the forefront while Bob stays at home with the kids.

- We got to see a new untitled project that Pixar is working on that is fantasy and suburban. It follows two teenagers (non human) as they try to get one last day with their father. It’s a modern day fairy tale in a sense that it’s a magical fantasy world with fairies and elves and unicorns but magic is hard and outdated. The ideal is really cool and the concept art amazing.

- Toy Story 4 is coming next year and that John Lasseter is stepping down from directing and just being an executive producer. We got a tour of Pixar and the team working on the movie, plus a few quick peaks at some toys.

- Finally we got to see some extended scenes of Coco. It looks beautiful. We learned Miguel needs his blessing from his family to go back but he won’t go until he gets their blessing to do music. Then we got a musical performance with the cast and dancers. It was big and fun.

Coolest thing I saw today was at the animation panel a clip from wreck it Ralph 2 featuring all the Disney princesses teaching vanellope about being a princess all in 3D animation voiced by their original voices. The jokes they each tell about their movies is great THEN one by one out came the voices of each Disney princess on stage I’m talkin Jodi benson Paige o hare all of them it was amazing

And after a good night of sleep Im still......... HYSTERICAL

Are the princesses in a room or in pictures in a website page?
If in a room, what type? Bedroom? Is it the background of one of the princesses movies?
Are they sitting or standing?
Are they using their dresses?
Is Vanellope 1/5 of their hight?
Does the scene last at least 2 minutes?
Do they all speak?
Do the hand drawn ones look weird in cgi?
Is merida accent different from the movie so no one understands her?
Are snow white eyes small like they should or big like disney likes recently?
Is aurora in blue or pink? Maybe shes sleeping?
Are they nice to each other?
Are they nice to my child vanellope?
Are there more cameos in the background? Stitch would be cute.
Do they appear out of no where? Does vanellope open the wrong door and just starts talking to them?
