Allez. Voter. Bordel. De. Merde.

“I know who you are,” Yuuri whispers, huddled into himself as the pirate gazes towards the horizon, hand held over his eyes to look for the King and his hunting party. “With your talents, you can be no other.”

“Is that so, Highness?” The pirate returns his gaze to Yuuri. “And who is it that you think I am?”

Yuuri straightens up, forces his chin up into a challenge. “You are the Dread Pirate Nikiforov, are you not? Your manner and cruelty seem to imply it, sir. You have the countenance of one whose lips have never uttered a kindness.”

Nikiforov bows to him. “I admit it proudly, your Highness. I am the Dread Pirate Nikiforov, at your service.” There is a smirk on his face–it has the same familiar but unplaceable air of all his mannerisms.

Yuuri turns his head away, feeling tears gather at his eyes. At long last, he faces the man responsible for taking his dear Viktor’s life. At long last, he has the chance to avenge his love–and all he is able to do is sit here, and weep. His voice little more than a raw whisper when he says, “That being the case, sir, I wish your inevitable death to be slow and painful.”

Nikiforov comes to him, crouching before his drawn up knees and lifting his face up with finger hooked under his chin. His eyes dart over Yuuri’s face until he says, “Why such cruel words from such pretty lips?”

Yuuri feels two tears fall from his eyes and makes no attempt to clear them. If he is to die here, at this instant or another one soon, at the hands of the same man who stole his Viktor from him–the let it be with tears for his love on his cheeks. He takes in a shaky breath and breaths, “You killed my Viktor. The only man I ever loved, and ever will.”

The Dread Pirate Nikiforov’s eyes would look almost soft, were he anyone else. His thumb traces across Yuuri’s bottom lip. “No love for your kingly fiance, then? For the man who would give you fortune and luxury?”

“I need no fortune,” Yuuri snaps, slapping the pirate’s hand away. “And the luxuries of royalty only stand to mock what I’ve lost!” Once again, Yuuri’s eyes go to the distance as Nikiforov rises and paces somewhere behind him, likely agitated. “Viktor and I would never have had a rich life. He was a poor farm boy, and I have nothing to my name but the Inn I will inherit from my parents on their death. But my Vitya–he was kind, and beautiful, and we would have been happy. I would have slept every night under nothing but the stars, if it were in his arms I laid.”

Nikiforov is silent for a long moment. Yuuri does not turn to look at him, only listens to the hissing of the grass in the wind and the slow and quiet thump of the pirate’s boots on the ground. At last, when he speaks, it is it to say, “I have killed many men, but I believe I remember him–your Vitya.”

“You do not have the right to speak his name,” Yuuri hisses, glaring over his shoulder with tear-stained cheeks and wild hair.

“He died well, you may be pleased to hear.” Nikiforov turns his face to the steep and grassy incline not ten feet from their toes. Beyond it, the forest looms. Nikiforov, Yuuri is sure, intends to take him into those woods and kill him. Anger blooms in his body like a sickness. “Most people beg–scream, cry, shit themselves. He only looked at me and said…Please. I must live. I have promised my love I will return–and promises I do not break. Then he spoke of the beautiful boy with whom he was in love–you, I assume. He told me you were timid, and terribly fragile. That news of his death would surely destroy you. I see none of that in you as you stand before me.” Nikiforov tilts his head over his shoulder, so Yuuri can see smirking blue eyes and an almost-genuine smile. “He underestimated you, I think.”

Yuuri rises to his feet, fists clenched at his sides. “How dare you tell me his dying tale, sir. How shameful, that he asked you for mercy and you gave him none. There is no place in God’s kingdom for you. And I? I was destroyed that day. You killed me as surely as you killed him. The person you see before you now is what remains when a man has nothing remaining to lose.” He yanks Nikiforov’s shoulder to spin him, cranes his neck up to compensate for the inches between them at this proximity. “If I’m to die today, at least do me the courtesy of revealing your face to me. Cease this cowardliness, hiding behind a mask as you steal lives. A person deserves to know his murderer.”

He anticipates refusal, perhaps even swift death, but what comes is a smile. Nikiforov reaches behind his head to untie the mask and, as it and the bandanna covering his hair fall away, he murmurs, “As you wish.”

As moonlight hair and high cheekbones are revealed, Yuuri can only gasp, “Viktor?” as his knees give out from below him.

I don’t have many notes today, apart from my James notes from earlier, and the following observations:

-When the boys are on top of the train, the lights in the strip across the back of the stage illuminate to follow the visible width of the train. Basically, when you can see the whole length of the train, the whole strip of lights is lit up, and when you can only see the end of the train, only the centre of the strip is lit up.

-James L did the back drumming on the second hug as well as the first (when Albus hugs Scorpius, Scorpius pats Albus’s back with his hands). Also, Scorpius made the most delighted noise when that hug happened.

-I loved Draco’s office today. It was really simple, just the two of them standing and looking at each other, but there was so much strength and determination in the two of them just facing each other and talking. Lovely.

-The end of the Owlery scene was incredible. Delphi grabbed Scorpius’s hand at one point, and held onto it while he was beginning to distrust her, presumably to stop him going for his wand. And Albus was just glaring at Scorpius the whole time. It was one of Sam’s best moments of the whole day.

-The scene in Harry’s office was devastating. Jamie broke so much earlier on than he has been recently, even before the second bit of Dumbledore’s speech. And Draco had a really long pause before saying that the day Scorpius was born was the happiest day of both his and Astoria’s lives. Also, he had to stop to wipe his eyes and gather himself together before he even reached ‘Astoria always knew she wasn’t destined for old age’. I’ve never seen him get so emotional so early on. It rivalled the very best Harry’s office scene I’ve ever seen I think. Both Harry and Draco spurring each other on to greater heights of emotion.

-In Godric’s Hollow, when Scorpius did his 'help, help, help!’ routine, instead of going across the stage on his knees, miming asking Harry for help, he took Albus’s face in both his hands and looked into Albus’s eyes, and did the 'help!’ bits to him. Albus was slightly bemused. (And James L told us at stage door that she wished she’d had that idea sooner, so she totally knows what she’s doing to use all.)

-After the battle, when Delphi was falling to the ground, the last thing I saw before the lights dimmed apart from the spotlight on Delphi, was Draco reaching out to Scorpius to protect him and check he was alright. <3

-The penultimate scene was really something. Scorbus shippers look away now. So basically Rose arrived and kind of planted herself in the middle of the stage, and she beckoned to Scorpius and he just went to her like he couldn’t help it. Then she adjusted his robes for him, and grabbed him by the jumper and reeled him in when she said 'okay, Scorpion King’, and it actually looked like she was going to kiss him. But at the last minute she let go and he went sprawling back and ended up in a grinning, dazed heap at the bottom of the stairs. He was delighted. And if anything could ever make me ship Scorose it was that. Such an electric moment.

-Pro-tip: when you next see the show, don’t think about how it’s the last/nearly the last time you’ll see Sam and Jamie do the last scene. I made that mistake and ended up crying. It’s just a bad idea.

Italics are memories ..

My breath was heavy and I couldn’t move my eyes away from the chair in front of me. It felt as if I just woke up from a coma. Different memories came back in flashes. At first it all came back, different pictures moving around my mind so fast I couldn’t make sense of it. It didn’t feel like memories. It felt like a movie that I’ve seen one too many times.

For the first time after being revived, I turned to look at Jerome. A gasp leaving me as I saw his face. I quickly pulled my hand up to cover my gaping mouth. Jerome noticed this and frowned slightly before allowing a haunting grin to overtake his features.

What does 'khuday paman' mean?

It’s Da Khuday pa Amaan. Literally, “With God’s trust/protection / with trust in God’s protection, [I am leaving]”

Practically, “bye.”

(The person leaving or initiating the good-bye says this, the person staying behind or responding to the good-bye says “Pa makha di sha” which means “may you face good[ness]” or, more romantically, “Makh ta di Guloona” which means “may you face flowers,” or, more protectively, “Khodai di mulgaray sa,” which means, “May God accompany [and protect] you.”)

What I’m saying is Pashto is a cute language. I’d hug it if I could.

In Defense of Kaneki:

–Being thrown off the roof was Tsukiyama’s best chance at survival. If Kaneki actually wanted to kill him, he could’ve done it right there on the roof, very easily, and been sure of his death. I believe that he wouldn’t have told him goodbye the way he did if he didn’t care at all. I do believe that he thought Tsukiyama’s death was a possible outcome, but that was the nicest thing he could do for him in his situation (while hiding with the ccg), and with the way he looked at Kanae before actually throwing him, I think he expected her to do something, too. Going out of his way to “kill” him instead of Ui was clearly a protective move to make. Ui would have actually killed him. Also, the way he looked at Tsukiyama before acting did not look sinister to me. It looked thoughtful. Covert pity and nostalgia could even be read in that expression.

–He couldn’t have known for sure whether or not Kanae would die saving Shuu, but as much as it pains me, he didn’t have any particular personal reasons to care for her, either, and we have to grant him some coldness after everything he’s been through. Kanae did try to kill or kidnap him or the Qs nearly every time he saw her. It’s perfectly consistent with his behavior in part one to feel coldly toward her, though he could have even done what he did even without feeling that way.

–As for why he has to stay with the CCG, being on their good side is the best option for almost any plan. It’s easiest to help any of his free friends there, it’s easiest to help Hinami there, it’s safest for him not to go against Arima (yet), it’s easiest to get information there, it would be easier to fight Aogiri and Dr. Kanou from there… There’s almost no move he could want to make that wouldn’t be hurt by a premature rebellion that could be avoided.

–What he said to Urie was what he drives himself crazy with on his bad days. It’s what Jason told him when he was being tortured, when his indecision resulted in two deaths instead of one. It’s what he felt about himself when Anteiku was being attacked. It’s his own problems being imposed on others, so it’s easy to have sympathy for him. Urie did unjustly blame him first, too. It’s awful that Urie was just starting to open up, only to hear that from his mentor, but Kaneki’s behavior makes sense and he’s also deserving of sympathy. I think it’s even probable that he was upset about Shirazu himself, since he does have Sasaki’s memories, and was lashing out in grief, even if it was a confused, muted sort of grief. (Since he only just woke up again, and both is and isn’t really Sasaki and so both does and doesn’t know Shirazu for himself. I imagine that he’s experiencing a lot of turmoil over this.)

–Finally, leaving the Qs is just about the most defensible thing he did in this chapter. The Qs would be the first of anyone to notice that he’s not the “Sasaki” they knew. It’s easier for his cover and their own peace if he distances himself from them now. If he’s planning anything, it would look bad for them if they were still together. By distancing himself from them, he ensures that his actions will not hurt them. They won’t be taken down with him when he and the CCG turn against each other. He also might, you know, be fucking sad that his “son” just died, may blame himself, and may be having trouble facing them the same way.

I believe this ended up being the cover to #5. But rad nonetheless.
