No Other Place

“Stay wary of bears,” his mother once said to him, tucking him among the leaves, for blankets were only a luxury. But his parents’ arms were warm enough, and he enjoyed feeling the sun on his face at dawn, slipping through the boughs that shielded his family from above. “They are always looking for food, and noisy children catch their attention. So you must always be quiet when we travel, Lloyd.” And such warnings were lightened with hugs and kisses to his forehead, so that he didn’t go to sleep with fear.

Yet the man who carried him reminded him of such a bear. His arms were as thick as tree trunks, and his steps made deep prints into the wet soil as the rain continued to pour that night. With his little body tired, and his head swimming with foreign sounds, Lloyd let himself be carried by this bear that had been drawn to his cries.

Regardless of Blood

Father’s Day was near. Could Kratos ever hope for a place in his son’s life? Especially when another had already taken that place far beyond his reach?

The Journey of Regeneration had a habit of making detours.

Despite Kratos’ guidance, the rest of his party continued making decisions on where they should head to next. Ever since they released the Seal of Fire, he found that his hold on their path was beginning to lessen. Even when the mercenary would object, even when he glared at the children who seemed to take this mission a bit too light-heartedly, it didn’t stop them from wanting to stay in a town a day longer, or wander down a field for whatever inane desire they had. From hidden treasures, to new monsters to fight, to simply fulfilling some random passerby’s request. It was amazing on just how much they had diverted from their destination, leading from the Ossa Trail in the mountains to near the Triet Desert once more.

Kratos suspected this journey was unraveling due to Lloyd’s presence.
