Anonymous said: Dirk, your hair looks… Uneven. Why is one side longer than the other? It looks like one side had to be shaved or something like that. Why is that?
Dirk: Well, It’s sorta related to all that stuff I just talked about.
Dirk: I had to get surgery last year, and they had to shave my hair on one side to temporarily remove a piece of my skull. Apparently I would have died otherwise, from…whatever it was that happened to me.
AR: It was vasogenic cerebral edema, caused by severe blunt force trauma to your forehead.
Dirk: Yeah, that. Luckily I wasn’t awake for the whole thing, but it hurt like hell afterwards.
Dirk: I thought about shaving the other side to match, but I’ve kinda gotten used to it? Even though I know it looks weird and lopsided. At least no one else has complained about it yet.
AR: If you are content with the way you look, then they have no right to criticize.
Dirk: No, it’s okay. They’re just curious, I’d probably ask about it too if I were them.
Dirk: It happened around the same time a lot of other things changed. At first it seemed like those changes were bad, but looking back on it, I can’t regret the way everything turned out in the end.
Dirk: This might sound kind of stupid, but I don’t feel like the same person I was before. Everything that happened is part of my identity now, so I guess it’s symbolic or something?
Dirk: Sorry, I’m probably not explaining it very well.
Anonymous said: If androids can fabricate anything, do you make nonessential cosmetic items too? Like hairspray for example?
Dirk: So, I actually have a friend who’s really into hair products.
Dirk: She advocated for some of that stuff that comes out of an aerosol can and makes your hair easier to shape and style. I’m assuming that’s what you’re referring to.
Dirk: I tried it? But…
Dirk: Apparently, with my hair cut like this and the hairspray added to it, I looked…kinda like AR.
Dirk: I mean, apart from the metal skin and everything, but it was weird.
AR: It was entirely coincidental, but yes, the resemblance was unexpected and somewhat difficult to explain.
Dirk: My friends and I came to a mutual agreement that I’m probably better off keeping my hair like this, although I’ve thought about dying it a few different colors.
Dirk: It’s hard to decide though, and AR hasn’t been helpful at all.
AR: I’ve submitted my opinion for your consideration multiple times.
Dirk: But you’ve only suggested one color.
AR: Then it should be a simple decision for you to make.
Dirk: Anyway, we’ve started fabricating cosmetic things, but it’ll probably be a while before it catches on with the rest of the population. That kind of stuff hasn’t been around for a long time.
