Do you have any tips or tricks for taking online classes?

Hi! Here area few things that might help:

  • make sure you have a reliable laptop and internet connection - everything is online, obviously, so you need things to work. I’d recommend having all your information saved or written down so you can access if from other computer if things go terrible wrong!
  • organise your files - having meticulously named folders and files helps so much!! If you have the opportunity to save files from your class, it will make finding them in the future much easier if you’ve got an organisation system in place. My folders follow: 2017 > Semester > Class > Week or Assessment.
  • learn to manage your time - we all work at different paces so figure out when you work best! If you are most awake to study in a morning, plan your routine around that. Setting yourself up with a routine to work is going to help keep you organised and not leaving things till the last minute. If you want to, you can print one of my weekly schedule printables. It is important to learn to discipline your time and not just leave things until the last minute. Set yourself up with plans in the evening so you are wanting to finish your work and reward your productivity.
  • try to get ahead - online courses can sometimes be difficult to keep up with since you’re not going to class and being reminded of upcoming assessments. If you can get yourself to a point of being 3-5 days ahead, you’ll hopefully never end up missing deadlines.
  • set a check in time - I think it’s worth setting yourself up to check on things that might be due each morning - say whilst you’re eating your breakfast. I think it is also worth setting yourself up with reminders and, if you want have a school email, setting that up to notify your phone too.
  • learn to remove distractions and procrastinations - have a read of this post on limiting distractions and this post on dealing with procrastinating.
  • make your environment promote studying - make sure it’s bright, tidy and functional. Have everything you need close by. Maybe put up a few motivational things like pictures or quotes. This also means avoiding using your bed for studying. Use your desk, the kitchen bench top or a dining table.
  • save your old assessments - I am always referring back to my assessments so having them saved somewhere accessible is super helpful.
  • communicate with your teacher, professors, etc - it is always worth building a relationship with people who are teaching you. It makes asking for help much easier and less daunting. It is better to send a short email with a question when it pops up, rather than waiting it out and losing marks because you misunderstood.

I hope this helps! x

Finding Islands - Lin-Manuel Miranda

Summary: Haida Gwaii, the small archipelago on the North Coast is your hometown. It is your duty to show it to Lin. After all, everyone has an island.

Words: 2,547

Warnings: None, this is so pure.

A/N: Day 4 of the Write-A-Thon and time is going by so damn fast. So this piece is a little messy because writer’s block has been kicking my ass for a while now, and nothing is coming out right but I tried my best! Enjoy.

There is a small, carrot-shaped archipelago of the North Coast of British Columbia in Canada. It is small and quaint, titled Haida Gwaii, with a population of less than 5,000 people. One, out of those 5,000, happened to be you.

My hubby forgot my anniversary and I wish to commiserate with Qui-Gon. Can you write some QuiObi where Obi forgets and Qui broods. Love all your work.

“…He seems annoyed.” Anakin offered pleasantly after the door closed behind Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan shifted on his feet, glancing at the door then back at Anakin.

“I…yes, yes he does and I’m not sure why but I get the distinct feeling he’s unhappy with me and I don’t know why Anakin.” Obi-Wan swallowed heavily. “I mean I’ve been working a lot lately, perhaps he’s annoyed by the amount of council time I’ve been doing?”

That got a hum out of the blond as Anakin popped his feet up on Ahsoka’s shoulder only to have them roughly slapped off by the togruta.

“If you behave anything like Skyguy I’d be annoyed too but you don’t.” Ahsoka offered dryly while brushing gravel of her shoulder. “Honestly Skyguy, if these weren’t your quarters, I’d tell you to take your damn boots off.”

“But it is my quarters!” Anakin grinned before turning considering eyes on Obi-Wan. “I know you’ve been busy Obi-Wan but I don’t think you’ve done that much council time…and you always come back to his bed and cuddle against him.”

“He is my bondmate of fifte…fifteen…oh no.”

Raising his brows slowly, both master and padawan stared at the rapidly paling Jedi Master in front of him.

And then Anakin’s face grew into a wide grin. “You forgot your anniversary, DIDN’T you? You damn skank!” He laughed.

“Anakin!” Obi-Wan hissed, still pale as he ran his hands over his beard. “This is not good! This is no laughing matter this is, this is-

“You fucking the stang up to an epic level considering its you?” Ahsoka offered pleasantly.

“…Yes that.” Obi-Wan continued rubbing his beard, frazzling it to bits. “Damn it Damn it Damn it, I knew there was something, something up, something important but I just…” For a moment the man looked so lost that even Anakin felt pity with him.

Force he could just imagine Padme’s face if he forgot their anniversary.

The horror.

Palpatine winning would almost be worth it…

Not really.

Nope.

“I could…no no, he’d know that would be last ditch…I could do…but that wouldn’t be meaningful.” Obi-Wan groaned and dropped his face in his hands, desperately racing his mind for a solution.

“…Cake!” He jerked his head up, staring at the others with a wild gaze. “Dinner and home made cake. I can bake. I’m GOOD at baking, I can fucking stop wars and have done it with my cakes. And you two will help me.”

“I’m fairly certain I burn water.” Ahsoka offered.

“I can he-”

“NO! Stay out of my kitchen Anakin, you eat bugs! You two need to distract Qui-Gon for me from our quarters. I need TIME.”

“…Bugs aren’t that bad, they’re full of proteins and minerals Obi-Wan.”

“I am not serving Qui-Gon a bug cake or a bug meal. Distract him!” Obi-Wan waved his hands at them and ran for the door.

“…How are we suppose to distract master Qui-Gon?”

“…I guess we ask him to spar or something. If we ask him to talk about what’s bothering him he’ll assume Obi-Wan sent him.”

()()()

Of course, best laid plans don’t always go to details.

Qui-Gon stared at the shared quarters he had with his bondmate, bushy and mostly silver brows raising high on his face as he took in the damage.

There was an unidentifiable blue smudge on the ceiling, there was flour on the entire kitchen from floor to cupboards, benches to their dining table, there was something that looked like a burned towel under a layer of flour on one of said benches, a skillet in the sink with what looked like the remains of burned meat and in the middle of everything…

One bedraggled looking, flour covered redheaded Jedi Master who looked at him with a hang dog expression on his face and flour dusting his hair and beard enough to make him look as old as his bondmate.

Qui-Gon felt his lips twitch faintly.

“Um…surprise?” Obi-Wan offered meekly.

“Oh Obi-Wan.” Qui-Gon chuckled quietly and stepped over most of the flour towards the other. “Love what happened?”

“…A good deal of enthusiasm and panic I think?”

“And the ceiling?”  Both glanced up at the blue in the ceiling.

“…It was suppose to be a mashed and frozen yorgan fruits treat I was going to use as part of the dessert.” Obi-Wan confessed.

“And the flour?” Qui-Gon wiped the back of his knuckles over Obi-Wan’s cheek, smile even softer.

“…I exploded the flour pack by dropping it when I was about to put it away.”

“I see.” Qui-Gon hummed. “The burned…nerf?”

“Chicken…when I was panicking about the flour it caught fire and…well it got a layer of burned around the outside.” He sighed quietly.

“Oh Obi-Wan.”

The flour coated man glanced up at him then glanced back before smiling sheepishly. “I didn’t burn the apple and cinnamon cake though. And we do have a bit of ice cream.” Obi-Wan rubbed the back of his neck a bit. “Happy anniversary love?”

“Happy anniversary my Obi-love.” Qui-Gon chuckled quietly before leaning in and pressing a soft kiss to his flour coated bondmate. “Now go shower love. I’ll look after the cake.”

“Alright.”

Grocery Mayhem

Starting to take requests for my Fem!Izuku storyline - Hidden in Plain View. Here is one of the first requests I received and was inspired to write about! Hope you all enjoy it! :’D

REQUEST:
Well, for my first one will be a fem!Izuku x Katsuki! It’ll totally include the Deku Protection Squad! Uraraka was about to get a snack in the dorm kitchen when she sees Izuku crying and Katsuki gripping her by the shoulders, yelling at her. Furious at him, Uraraka decides to assemble the Deku Protection Squad for the main purpose of protecting their precious cinnamon roll. When learning that Izuku had to go grocery shopping with Katsuki as ordered by their parents, the DPS set out to spy on them, sabotaging and pranking Katsuki until he figured out what was going on. Izuku explains that she had cut herself in the kitchen and Katsuki was just concerned for her, yelling at her to be more careful.

***

Uraraka moved through the halls, sleepily running at her eyes. It was late into Saturday evening and she had just woken up from an unintentional nap to grab a late dinner. Moving towards the door that led to the common room, she paused as she heard a loud yelp and then what sounded like Bakugou yelling. Pushing the door open a little bit, she peered into the common room and noticed two figures in the kitchen standing next to one another. She hurriedly moved to the wall that separated the dining room from the living room and peered behind it to look more into the kitchen. Her eyes focused on the pair of students as one of them pushed the other to sit on one of the benches on the long dining table.

“You FUCKING idiot! Didn’t I tell you not to do that?! Now look at what fucking happened! Deku you idiotic fuck!”

Her eyes narrowed as she took in the form of Bakugou gripping Izuka’s shoulders tightly as he proceeded to yell at her. Uraraka’s eyes focused on Izuka’s face, seeing her red puffy eyes and how she held her hands to her chest. Clearly they were fighting… again and Uraraka wouldn’t stand for it anymore. She moved to intervene when Izuka pushed away from Bakugou and marched towards the girls’ wing and went through the door. Bakugou stood there for a while, running his hand through his hair before turning to walk away.

She heard shuffling in the kitchen, things being put away before a curse came from Bakugou and he moved towards the boys’ wing. She moved from her spot against the wall and walked into the kitchen, sighing as she ran her hands over her face. It was time to get the Deku Protection Squad to assemble again.

**

“So what’s this about Uraraka-san? You said it was urgent?” Todoroki stood off to the side of the room, glancing around at the other students in the room taking various positions. To his right stood Iida and Kirishima with Kaminari sitting on the floor picking at the covering on his phone. To his left stood Uraraka who looked nervous with Tsuyu next to her.

To his front he was shocked to see two other students he hadn’t originally been in their group chat until recently. Mina stood in the middle with her hands on her hips and the weird purple haired boy with tired eyes leaned against Uraraka’s bed. Todoroki for the life of him couldn’t remember his name.

“Yeah, if this is about Izuka then where is Bakubro? He is normally the first person here when there’s something going on with our girl.” Kirishima looked from his spot as he rubbed at his chin.

Uraraka took a deep breath before shaking her head. “He’s not here because he’s the problem this time Kirishima. I saw him being overly handsy and aggressive at her the other night.”

“Are you sure it wasn’t just one of his normal explodo-moods? You know how he gets with anything.” Kaminari looked up from his phone and cocked an eyebrow. “He’s always that way with Izuka. HELL he’s like that with everyone.”

“No! It wasn’t like that at all! He pushed her onto the bench and proceeded to yell at her for being an idiot! She even had withdrawn from him and was crying! You know how much it takes to get her to cry these days you guys!” Uraraka stamped her foot on the ground and Tsuyu moved to place her hand on her shoulder.

“It’s okay, ribbit. We’ll figure something out.”

“That is a most concerning thing however!” Iida moved forward into the group, his hands flying around as he pointed in random directions. “If Bakugou cannot control his temper around her than who’s to say he won’t move to more physical harm next time? I say we intervene tonight if we must!”

“Woah hang on guys, I think we need to know more about what exactly happened than just jumping the gun here.” Kirishima held his hands up and looked down at Kaminari. “We know them both pretty well and it doesn’t sound like something Bakugou would do anymore. Maybe if this happened at the beginning of the school year but he’s different now-”

“I know what I saw Kirishima! She was crying- crying! Izuka doesn’t let his words normally get to her like this but it - the way she looked…” Uraraka looked down and took a deep breath. “I’m just worried about her.”

“And you have a right to be, she is a dear friend to us all. I say we look into it.” Todoroki spoke his kind and met Uraraka’s eyes. “Deal?”

“Ye-YEAH… Thank you Todoroki!”

“I can figure out their schedule for tomorrow. Give me a few minutes.” Shinsou left the room as everyone watched him leave. An awkward silence fell over the group as they waited in baited silence before a knock came from the door and in walked Shinsou again. “They are going grocery shopping tomorrow as requested by Aizawa-sensei. Supposedly tonight they nearly used up everything in the kitchen with whatever they were doing.” His bored eyes traveled around the room, taking in the shocked expressions of everyone. “What?”

“How did you- how?” Mina looked startled as she stared at him with wide eyes.

Shinsou sighed and taped his head. “Mind control. Remember?” He smirked at the uncomfortable look on her face. “You do know how easy it is to get Midoriya to talk right? All I had to do was say hi and she instantly opened up.” He snickered at the relaxed looks from everyone.

“So what’s the plan then?” Kaminari stood up from his spot and pocketed his phone. “Do we follow them?”

“I think we need to do more than just stalk them this time…” Uraraka hit her hand into the palm of her other. “Bakugou needs to learn not to mess with our girl.”

“So… sabotage?” Kirishima grinned as he nodded. “I like the sound of that.”

“The only reason why you like it is because you get to mess with Bakugou while he’s out with Izuka…” Kaminari snickered as he whispered to Kirishima, a dark blush crossing over Kiri’s cheeks as he was caught.

“Sh-shut up Denki!”

Todoroki couldn’t help but overhear and silently agreed with Kirishima. It would be nice to get back at Bakugou for once…

His eyes widened a bit at his own thoughts before he cleared his throat, gaining the attention of everyone in the small room.

“I think it’s best if we plan this all out tonight to be prepared for tomorrow.” A collective group of nods showed the groups support as Todoroki sat down and grabbed a notebook from the nearby desk. “Let’s begin.”

The rest of that night was spent making a plan for tomorrow.

Tea

This one is for @rienerose and her prompt

“Erik falls asleep at the Daroga’s house. Meg has hot gossip.”

For this one I’ve gone with the movie verse because I’ve just watched it, with the Daroga thrown in. This one’s from his POV.

I didn’t know what to expect upon opening the door, but to my beguilement the little Giry girl stood before me. Immediately, I knew that this would concern Erik; the man that I had finally convinced to find rest in the delirium he had lost himself in. I had left him in my quarters, sitting on the bed with his head in his hands. I had told him that torturing himself over what had happened would not take back what he had done, and it would not bring her back. I had told him this countless times over the last few hours; had tried to appeal to whatever Erik was left in the Opera Ghost I guardedly called my friend. But he had ignored me, or, when I pushed a little too hard; said a little too much, he had sworn at me in both his native tongue and mine.

When I suggested that he try to rest I received a mere nod in response; as good as I was going to get from Erik.

“Monsieur.” Meg spoke demurely, adding a brief courtesy. She seemed on edge. She glanced behind me, her eyes darting around the room as if searching for someone. He was indeed there, but he was asleep. Or at least I hoped.

“Mademoiselle…” I nodded. I did not want to ask what her visit was pertaining to for that would have been outwardly rude, but I could not for the life of me guess at what she had come to tell me. I hoped that the message she brought would not make things worse.

“Would you like to come in?” I asked, opening the door further and gesturing for her to enter. “You shouldn’t be out in the cold.

“No, Monsieur.” She spoke, she looked down and continued. “I… must be getting back to maman.”

She didn’t want to enter because she was afraid of my new houseguest – this, I knew. I couldn’t blame her.

“As you wish.” I said. I stepped closer to her. “He… won’t hurt you, you know.”

“Maman seems to think the same thing.” She replied, still looking at the ground.

“Did she send you?”

The girl nodded.

“Please come in.” I offered, stepping back again. “You’ll catch your death out here.”

She shook her head.

I sighed.

“He won’t hurt you, Meg. And aside from that, he is likely asleep.”

She looked at me, as if asking me to convince her further

“Come. I will make us tea.”

Poppy stretched her legs out on the bench at the dining hall table, sighing dramatically as she reclined and lied down completely regardless of who was there. In front of where she’d been sitting were pages full of scribbled Quidditch strategies and a parchment piece full of Gryffindor’s statistics. Slowly, she’d been working her way up to being able to fly on a broom for the entirety of a practice, and a lot of her physical therapy now focused on flying, but she was making up for it as much as she could as a strategist and team captain. “I’m going to be doing this all night. Would you like to do my homework for me?” she inquired of the person nearest her.

Sarah hears him before she sees him, the clomping boots and multiple voices, but his is the loudest. The door is most likely kicked open and she stands hurriedly, almost knocking the chair over and smoothes her skirt.

He stands heads taller than her, his shoulders filling the frame with a thick wodge of A4 paper notes in his hand. When he looks up his eyes are cold, disinterested and he gives her a tilted look. “Who are you?” His voice is deep, hinting on amusement that some imbecile has dared creep into his room.

“Sarah Bennett.”
