did your life benefit in any way

“Once when I was little, I was bullied by my schoolmates for no reason. Even when I reflect on it now, I don’t get why they treated me like an outcast. I am now close with some of the kids who used to bully me, and I asked them why they did it, but they didn’t know the reason either. Bullying was as prevalent as catching a cold back then, and I was unlucky enough to catch it. Since then, I became sensitive to changes in people’s behaviors. I started to detect minor differences in people’s tones and behaviors.”“Did that experience influence your life in any way?”“Right now, I’m preparing to become a special education teacher, and I can detect subtle changes in my students’ behaviors when I work with them. My father always told me, ‘All things have good sides and bad sides, and your situation now will certainly benefit you at some point.’ And I think he was right. When I think about it now, those situations shaped me into who I am right now.”

In this shadow work challenge, we will be exploring our past and delving into some of the core experiences that have helped create and reinforce our shadows. Please keep in mind that shadow work is a highly individual process and there is simply no way I could ever devise any sort of curriculum that yields impeccable results for everyone. It is up to you to give this challenge true substance. This is not a set of step-by-step instructions or specified exercises, but a collection of interrelated subjects that form a generic basis for shadow work that you will [hopefully] be able to build off of.

The prompts included were designed to be responded to in one (or all) of the following ways: journaling, creative expression, or tarot reading. I recommend journaling and/or creative expression as the basis with tarot as a supplement, but it can serve as a stand alone tarot evaluation as well (which is why I created this Tree of Life Spread). Whatever works for you, go for it! This challenge is only meant to get your mind reeling, and as you will see it’s pretty cut and dry, so I encourage you to use it as you please– get creative and allow it to evolve as you go.

If you feel comfortable doing so, please share your work and tag “january shadow work challenge”. I for one would love to see it, and I’m sure those who are trying to get their foot in the door with shadow work would appreciate some reference material. In any case, I thank all for participating and as always I welcome public or private feedback!

(P.S. I did not get to work on/edit this as thoroughly as I would have liked, so please forgive me for any errors or sloppy writing in general! Also, feel free to shoot me an ask if you have any questions. Best Wishes and Happy New Year!)

anonymous asked:

Can I request how the RFA+V and Saeran react to MC being a world famous scientist? I'm talking on par with Bill Nye and Neil deGrasse Tyson in today's world.

This is a really cool request anonny! Bill Nye was the reason why I passed sixth grade science oh my gosh you’re making me all nostalgic! But I was pretty average when I took science classes in school so please forgive me for lacking science knowledge! Anyways, I still hope that you enjoy!!~

Yoosung

  • One of Yoosung’s worst subjects in school is science to he feels like his prayers have been answered when he finds out he’s dating a scientist
  • He’s constantly asking you questions, not just for his science class but because he’s genuinely curious
  • When he finally graduates, Yoosung thinks that the two of you look so cool in your respective lab coats
  • Like Yoosung in his veterinarian coat and you in your science coat has him squealing because the two of you look so cute together!
  • He totally brags to his vet co-workers that he’s dating a scientist and loves seeing them fume green with jealousy
  • Yoosung also goes onto the messenger to tell the rest of the RFA members how you and him are the smartest couple
  • Basically Yoosung adores the fact that he’s dating an awesome scientist like you and showcases you wherever he goes

Zen

  • Zen cannot believe that he’s lucky enough to date a world class scientist when he met you
  • You’re beautiful and smart so basically Zen almost fainted when he found out
  • Since he didn’t go to college, he’s quite curious about science and enjoys asking you questions
  • Even though most of the time after you give him an answer Zen’s still confused because science can be confusing
  • His nose bled so much the first time he saw you in a lab coat but with a swift smack on the chest he controlled the beast
  • Zen does take your profession seriously and proves it to you when he recites some science facts that you told him
  • He almost cried when he saw the media call you and Zen a ‘powerful, smart, and gorgeous couple’
  • Zen learns so many new things about science from you and is so thankful to have someone as intelligent and wonderful in his life

Jaehee

  • The fact that Jaehee nabbed you as her girlfriend was already an amazing thing to her
  • But when she finds out that you’re a scientist she’s elated!
  • Jaehee enjoyed science classes when she was in school so she understands some of the things you talk about… emphasis on the word some
  • She gets so proud of herself and mentally pats herself on the back whenever you ask her something and she knows the answer
  • Jaehee loves going to science lectures in which you’re a speaker and will furiously write down everything that you say so she can impress you with her knowledge at a later time
  • She also loves the fact that you represent women in the science field and how you inspire younger girls to be whatever they want to be
  • The first time you wore a lab coat in front of Jaehee, she gushed about how awesome and cool you look
  • Knowing that your dream was to become a scientist makes Jaehee inspired to follow her own dreams, something that she’ll be forever thankful for

Jumin

  • Jumin already knew that he was dating an awesome person when he met you but finding out that you’re a scientist makes you that much cooler to him
  • He was indifferent when it came to science classes when he was in school but being with you reinvigorates his enjoyment of the subject
  • Going to fancy dinner parties with the two of you means having a lot of other famous and rich people stop to compliment how great of a couple you and Jumin make
  • One of Jumin’s favorite things in the world is whenever someone tries tell you that your theory is wrong but you totally show them up and prove yourself right
  • He’ll request that in your free time you perform any type of experiment to help benefit cats in any way
  • Jumin thinks that you look amazing in a lab coat and will tell you that all of the time
  • Being with a scientist like you has really opened Jumin’s eyes for the better and exposed him more to the vast world of science

Seven

  • Never in his life did Seven think he’d ever be able to date an amazing scientist like you
  • You’re basically his soulmate since he’s always been a fan of science plus you’re just plain awesome to add
  • Seven is always asking to help you with experiments, especially the more dangerous ones
  • The two of you have little battles as to see who can name off more science facts then the other which typically ends with you winning and Seven demanding for a re-match
  • He’s surprisingly super helpful when you can’t figure out an equation or theory, usually offering his own opinion and lots of support
  • Seven totally buys a lab coat that replicates yours because he wants to look cute and smart like you
  • He’ll run around the house playing songs like ‘Weird Science’ or ‘She Blinded Me With Science’ which makes you sigh but then laugh because how could you not love this man?
  • Seven’s extremely happy and encouraging with all of your science work, he’s truly proud of you for all that you’ve accomplished

V

  • V already knew that you were an amazing person when he talked with you over the messenger but he found out that you were even cooler since you were a scientist
  • He’s always had a fascination for science related things so he’s willing to lend an ear when needed
  • V absolutly adores listening to your science lectures since his eyesight isn’t well enough to watch you perform experiments
  • But he’s willing to stand by and give you lots of support and encouragement
  • He’ll become ecstatic when you ask him to help you with a more hands-on type of experiment since his sense of touch is superb
  • So many photos are taken of you in a lab coat because V thinks that you just look so adorable in it!
  • The media calls you and V the ‘Artist and Scientist’ so the two of you start calling each other that
  • V genuinely enjoys the fact that you’re a scientist, he loves hearing facts from you and find your intelligence amazing

Unknown

  • Saeran’s knowledge on science is fairly low so he’s lowkey hyped to be dating you since you are a scientist
  • He’ll casually ask you questions, trying not to look like he’s trying to, and while you know he’s trying to put on a facade you still happily answer his questions
  • He especially loves it whenever you tell him scientific facts about plants and animals
  • Since Saeran doesn’t want you to think that he’s stupid, he’ll look up some science facts on his own to impress you which you find simply charming
  • His eyes widen in wonder when you perform experiments and once again, Saeran will casually ask if he can help
  • Saeran’s jaw drops the first time he sees you in a lab coat, blurting out how stunning you look then immediately starts blushing
  • He totally brags to the rest of the RFA members about his new science knowledge, smirking at you when they all become impressed
  • Being with a scientist like you makes Saeran feel smarter and helping you with experiments truly makes this boy happy

Phillipa Soo x Reader

Summary: Both you and Pippa are about to give up on love, then you spot each other.

Warnings: Other than like one swear, I don’t think there’s anything, purely fluff!

Words: 2,326 (roughly)

A/N: Hi again! I had so much fun writing this to be honest, my heart kinda hurts. Title is from Amelie because I’m t r a s h. I hope you guys like it! Also, random note but, because I’m so creative, the reader’s sisters are actually named after two of my sisters :)

It was Monday and as you clutched a coffee in your hand, you couldn’t help but feel tiredly lost. You looked at the faces you were passing, each one different. A woman with her hair falling from her ponytail and an exhausted expression, a man practically stomping his way down the street, a child grinning and skipping. All these people had lives, and when they walked past, you were granted a small glimpse through their window. You wondered what you looked like to them. Was the crying of last night still evident on your face? Did you look as lost as you felt?

Does Justice Need Love To Survive?

Sometimes I try hard to find a species of animal cute or loveable. I see posters and images from vegan organizations or blogs comparing a household pet to an animal that is commonly exploited. They ask, why love one but not the other? Oddly enough I can feel myself getting anxious, even angry sometimes, when I see these photos and read these heartfelt pleas. It’s an agitated feeling in the back of my mind that I can’t ignore if I’m being completely honest with myself. Because, you know, there are animals I would not let in my house. There are animals that I would not want to take care of. There are animals I know I would find unpleasant over time, or would annoy me with how they sound or smell. Some animals I just don’t feel a huge connection with.

What I thought made me feel anxious about this, at first, was the idea that maybe one day I would give up being vegan because of these feelings - that if I secretly harbored some sort of distaste or animosity for any species, I might one day again be okay with having them harmed so long as I didn’t have to personally witness it, or cause it with my own hand. I mean, I’ve been vegan for about 7 years now, but there’s always some family member or friend hoping it’s “just a phase”, right?

But really, the issue is this: the idea that love is the sole motivation for not killing someone is absurd to me. Whether I find an animal cute being the basis of my judgement is absurd. Being able to love a creature really isn’t a stable basis for whether or not they deserve to live free from unnecessary harm. And I really think we need to be vocal with this concept.

There’s the lingering perception that people give up the use of animal products because they are welling with sympathy for all animals. That they tear up over seeing an animal harmed. There’s nothing wrong with loving every animal, for wanting to cuddle up next to every species or personally care for them. Being emotional isn’t bad. But what if you don’t love every animal? “Well, I just don’t love animals the way you do” is so often cited as the reasoning behind why we pet a cat but kill a pig, play fetch with a puppy but forcefully impregnate a cow. Why we treat animals differently, and why we think it’s logical. If we chose to have the same reasoning anywhere else, we’d be called insane.

You don’t like your boss. Will you kill them? You don’t like willow trees. Will you chop them all down? You don’t personally like a certain TV show very much. Will you petition to get it cancelled? You don’t love these things, but maybe you know someone who does. Even if you don’t, you likely see no need to cause harm to them. Chances are you might even go out of your way minimally not to cause harm to them, or to make life easier for them.

Some people will say “the reason I don’t kill my boss is because I would get caught; it’s illegal to kill another person and if I did that my life would be worse. I could get sent to jail, or people wouldn’t like me any more. It’s just in my best interest not to”. We do on many occasions consider the personal benefit our moral actions will hold. Praise, compensation, co-operation. Even just bragging rights. It’s a significant factor, but it’s not really the only factor, is it?

Most know that, given the opportunity to kill someone we do not really care for, we would not do it, could not do it. There’s no reason to do so. We would not be acting out of necessity but out of a temporary desire - one that we know very well will hurt someone else. Laws may keep us more aware of ethical boundaries, but it is the moral code in ourselves that will enforce it even when we have the chance to commit an unlawful act and get away with it. In fact, there are moments in life where one may feel compelled to break a law because they feel morally right in doing so, proving that at least for a sizable audience of people, the moral compass is stronger than the legal punishment.

When no one is watching, the average person still considers themselves a moral agent. When we meet people without this behaviour in our society, they are more often the criminals, the ostracized, those deemed malicious or harmful. Sometimes we even consider it an illness if someone cannot, over an extended period of time, act like a moral agent without the promise of personal gain. This is someone who continues to act maliciously to others whenever it appears they might get away with it.

I think there are enough people who realize that the majority of harm is unnecessary, but are continually tricked by both sides of the argument into believing that you must feel strong emotions (towards a cause, like a movement, political stance or religion) to act on that knowledge. To see justice as a reasonable outcome does not require us to love those being harmed. It simply requires us to ask ourselves what we believe is fair, and to furthermore ask if that answer coheres with our other believes and actions.

This is how we can love one, but not the other - and still understand that it isn’t necessary to harm either.

Sebastian Stan One-Shot

Your books and papers were scattered all across the living room floor. There was so much studying to be done, so many assignments to read and papers to write. You had been at this for hours, yet you still felt like you hadn’t gotten anything done all day. Words on pages were turning into blurs on pages and you sighed, running your hands through your hair.

Sebastian walked in, earlier than expected and you hadn’t even noticed his presence in the room. His eyebrow raised, he leaned against the doorframe between the kitchen and the living room with his arms crossed across his chest, watching you intently for a minute. “I’m worried about you.” He finally spoke, making you aware he was there. Moving forward, he took a seat across from you on the floor, sitting indian style. “I feel like you haven’t moved from this spot since I left this morning.”

You gave a hard laugh. A sarcastic laugh. He was absolutely right, but you couldn’t help but find it adorable that he was expressing his concern for you. “I haven’t moved from this spot since you left this morning. Except to pee. Twice. And to get coffee. Three times. Though to be fair, I carried two mugs at a time so…” You shrugged, a frown on your face. “And I might have eaten a poptart. But that’s about it.” Another shrug and you leaned forward, resting your head in your hand with your elbow on your knee.

Sebastian was skimming through some of the index cards sprawled out in front of him, smirking at the little doodles on the side of some of them. On one of the papers nearly full to the edge of notes he could faintly make out “I <3 Sebastian” on the side. He laughed lightly, looking up at you. “We can’t have you starving to death. Want to go to dinner? Give it a rest for a little? I’ll even let you pick the restaurant.”

You smile as you watch him skim through your whole academic life, literally laid out before him. Normally you might have been embarrassed that he was so curious, but your relationship had grown, you didn’t really have any secrets or part of your life that you hadn’t shared with him. His offer did make you perk up a bit, and the rumbling in your stomach said you did need to eat something. But you were a workaholic, and a perfectionist, and there was no way you were going to just stop before you had memorized everything from the last chapter of your textbook. “But darling, I think starving comes with the many benefits of being in law school. Plus, I haven’t showered, I smell like I’ve been cryogenically frozen for the last seventy years. Almost hobo-like.” You couldn’t help but tease him. Plus, it helped you feel a bit less frazzled. Something familiar other than legal terms.

His eyes squinted and he nodded his head slowly. “I see how you want to play it. Alright, if you don’t want steak tacos smothered in red onions and fresh cilantro with a side of fritos, I can’t say I didn’t offer.” Slowly, he started to get up off of the floor. He was cruel, and he knew it by the way your stomach grumbled.

“Bring me home some?” This time you looked up at him with your most innocent puppy-dog eyes you could muster up. But it wasn’t working.

“Nope. You either come with me or you eat another cherry poptart.” He was fully standing now, adjusting his jacket. “Okay, here’s a deal. I’ll start your shower while you clean up all of this… Law and Order stuff.” Sebastian moved slowly towards the bathroom. “Dun dun dun dun duuuuun…” He was now singing the theme song to Law and Order and you giggled.

“I don’t know, Seb. I really have a lot of stuff to do.” It was more of a whine, but in the back of your head you knew it had to be done.

“No ifs, ands, or butts. You’re showering, we’re getting tacos.” He wasn’t hearing it. He didn’t even turn around.

“But there’s litigations I have to go over and testimonies I have to review and all of these terms-”

“Objection!” He yelled, cutting you off, turning around to show you just how serious he was with his brooding look. “You’re done studying. I want time with my girlfriend.”

A small smile spread across your lips. He clearly wanted to spend time with you. Finally you sighed, defeated. “Sustained.” You didn’t even bother to clean up. “But you’re showering with me.”

Eyebrow raised, he quickly took off his jacket, throwing it on the couch. “No objection there.”
