diamond-back

let’s talk about the Pearls

because their behaviour in The Trial was fascinating to me

At first, we see them exhibiting all their usual stuff. YP is as flourishing and Extra as always, and while for the most part BP is her usual quiet self, we see her display the most actual personality ever as she grins while drawing “Rose Quartz’s” death

But the tricky thing with the Diamonds’ Pearls is that it is very, very hard to tell what’s the real them. What are they really thinking, and what’s a show they have to put on to avoid their owners’ wrath?

Here, we see them lose their calm– both of them, at the same time, for the same reason. And not because of a direct threat/insult, like Yellow Pearl’s flinching from Yellow Diamond in “Message Recieved”. It’s a comment Blue Zircon makes:

“So how did a Rose Quartz with no business being anywhere near Pink Diamond get so close in the first place? Where were Pink Diamond’s attendants? Her Agates? Her Sapphires? And where was her Pearl?”

They both immediately freeze. YP’s expression is terrified. She looks directly and BP, as if either afraid for her, or searching for reassurance or guidance. We don’t know exactly what Blue Pearl’s expression is, with her eyes covered– but maybe fear too, or uncertainty, or surprise…

So the question is. Why?

1) They’re genuinely shocked. They’re so indoctrinated by Homeworld ideology that the thought that Pink Diamond’s Pearl didn’t do anything to protect her is an accusation which strikes them to their core

2) They’re afraid their Diamonds will lash out at them as scapegoats. This episode made it painfully clear that YD especially is pretty trigger happy, so I wouldn’t put it past her to occasionally strike out at blameless underlings

3) They know something.

This last one seems more likely to me. Because why else would they get so much focus? The question is– what?

Okay. Let me split this up into sub-theories:

  • They (or one of them) witnessed Pink Diamond’s death, and they have information which could explain the discrepancies Blue Zircon brought up. However, they never divulged it for whatever reason. (Possibly because, if there was a cover up, they could be at risk if the did). Now it might come out accidentally, and they could take the fallout.

  • One or both of them helped orchestrate Pink Diamond’s assassination, either directly or indirectly. The main issue is the question of how an obvious criminal like Rose Quartz could have gotten close enough to Pink Diamond to kill her. Pearls would have a great insight into how all the court hierarchies work. Since they’re considered to be basically dim-witted furniture, they’re pretty easily ignored. Combine this with abilities such as holographic projections, perhaps they could have found a way to smuggle Rose Quartz (or the true killer) close enough.

  • Another Pearl was directly involved in the smuggling and killing of Pink Diamond. While they didn’t plan it, BP and YP helped her (and any allies e.g. Rose Quartz) escape, because of Pearl Solidarity

Hmm…. but who could this other Pearl be… If only there was another Pearl in the show… a known rebel… who’s past history with Homeworld is shrouded in mystery…

Ah. Yes.

Now, I’ll admit, I don’t know exactly how Pearl exactly fits in. Rose Quartz being the killer seems important for the Arc of Steven coming to discover that his Mom’s past actions weren’t all sunshine and daisies, and the further arc of him realizing that maybe sometimes violence/shattering is necessary or justified. So maybe she just helped sneak Rose in, even if she didn’t deliver the killing blow herself.

Although, if Pearl was the culprit, that might give even more impact to her expression when Steven discovered what happened to Pink Diamond in ‘Back to the Moon’

Admittedly, this can easily just be Pearl saddened that Steven’s discovered the truth. That the perfect image of his mother, the person Pearl loved and respected more than anyone else, has been broken. That his innocence has been lost.

But if she was responsible, it could also be fear that Steven– who is innocent, who still values the lives of everyone– would reject her if he discovered she was the one who did it.

(Also, consider Pearl’s claims of being Rose’s sole confidant, the one who knows everything… The only one who knew the truth of Pink Diamond’s shattering.)

‘Course, we’ve got the little problem here that all eye witness accounts say that Rose Quartz killed Pink Diamond. As you might have noticed, Pearl looks absolutely nothing like Rose.

… but hey. How about shapeshifting? You know. That thing Pearl swears she can do, but that we’ve never seen her demonstrate in 132 episodes? This would be a pretty significant demonstration. And the trauma of using it for such a thing could explain why she hasn’t wanted to use it since.

(Not sure why Pearl would have felt the need to disguise herself as Rose Quartz. Maybe it was because she knew all the other RQs got captured and bubbled for Rose’s rebellion, so Pearl was protect her fellows from a similar culling. Or maybe she thought showing the leader of the rebellion dealing the finishing blow would make a stronger image. idk)

That said, again, I still really am fond of Rose being responsible… so maybe we can split the difference and put the death on Rainbow Quartz? That would be rad too.

basically it’s all a mystery and i’m not sure where it’s going, but the Pearls almost definitely have some clue

Let’s end this on their worried faces

Who really Shattered Pink Diamond...

During the events of the “Back to the Moon”, we were all certain that Rose was the one that shattered Pink Diamond and started the rebellion on Earth. But during the events of “the Trail” the accusation of Rose Shattering Pink Diamond doesn’t make sense anymore.

please watch clip before reading this clip

PLEASE REMEMBER THAT THIS IS JUST A THEORY AND IF YOU DO NOT AGREE WITH IT DO NOT PUT RUDE COMMENTS IN MY MAIL BOX PLEASE!

As Zircon had explained before the shattering of Pink Diamond had taken place Rose had been recognized as a threat for 700 years. In others words Rose Quartzs were already out lawed and bubble by Pink Diamond. So how did Rose get so close to Pink Diamond if everyone was already on guard for her. And the murder weapon was described to be Rose’s sword! But as it was said before by Bismuth she designed the sword to destroy the physical form but never the gem… But Blue Diamond was told that it was a sword. So it doesn’t make sense at all.

In fact the shattering of Pink Diamond was pinned on Rose Quartz, why you may ask because it was convenient for the real perpetrator! They had someone to blame and also they had the power to cover up the ordeal. Along with that it had to be someone who was close to her as well, someone who could have gotten her outside of her palanquin.

Zircon believed it had to have been a person in power and the only Diamond we have not seen in power is White Diamond and I believe she’s the one responsible for Pink Diamond death. But why? Why did she do it? The reason being is that Pink Diamond was not filling her role as a leader. The one who performed the deed was pearl… OUR PEARL!

From what we’ve seen from the gem society is that they believe in complete order and each gem must fill their role! The diamonds are leaders they are meant to thrive and expand their civilization. Pink Diamond is seen to be the youngest diamond, since see only started her one colony. And she failed at her duty to due so. I’m not talking about her shattering, I’m talking about what she did with the planet. Yes she created kindergartens and made new gems but she did something useless not benefitting Homeworld and fitting the model.

I’m talking about the creation of the human zoo

She creating the human, she was capturing life wasting her resources, to study organic life. Of course the other diamonds would see them useless thing to do Yellow herself called the human zoo silly during “what’s the use of feeling Blue”.(The only reason Blue cares about humans is only because they have a connection to Pink). And from the detailed and well cared environment that the humans lived in she seemed more occupied with the zoo than creating her colony (she was still invested in creating it but was doing something on the side to put it in perspective).

That was her first mistake as a Diamond. The second mistake that Pink made was letting Rose go rouge. From what Zircon had said Rose Quartz gems were already an outlaw after Rose went against Pink, And what did Pink decided to do.

She deicides to bubble all the Rose Quartz and not destroy them. Now we’ve seen how harsh the Diamonds can be and how strict they are. And from what we got from other gems everyones afraid of making a mistake in the fear of getting shattered by the Diamonds who they see as godly beings. But Pink didn’t not excises her power enough and was too soft. And she couldn’t even get one of her soldiers under control. She showed mercy to all these Rose Quartz gems which is a sign of weakness.  From that description she didn’t seem fit to rule as a Diamond and that’s why she ordered Pink’s demise.

I also believe that’s why Yellow was acting so weird during the trail like she knew something. Like she knew something about it; I think knew the truth and was just protecting Blue. And it also explains why Yellow she’s trying so hard to get Blue to move on she knows what White Diamonds capable of and doesn’t want the same thing to happen to Blue, to be seen as an unfit ruler and gets shattered by White Diamond.

Okay now that’s done let’s get to Pearl side of the story.

The reason why I believed that it was a pearl is because what gem is more closer to a Diamond than a pearl. Zircon said it herself that it had to be someone close to her. Pearls are with their owners 24/7 they are able to see them at their strongest and their weakest. And they’re the only gems that are able to be alone with their Diamonds so a pearl could know the perfect time to strike since they’re with them all the time.

And it had to be our Pearl that did it. And why because she was originally white Diamonds Pearl and she was given to Pink. There is evidence that she is White Diamonds Pearl her gem is in the same placement as white’s along with her color in the Answer the color that represented her was white. Though you all maybe asking “but how did she end up with Pink”.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vHLz6HF-Lrc

Listen to this and Zircon’s imitation and try to tell me that doesn’t sound familiar to each other.

Watch out my Diamond!!!

The way Zircon said tried to imitate “Pink Diamond’s Pearl”  it sounds very similar to how dramatic our Pearl is. Remember during the trail case, when Zircon said “and where was her Pearl” Take notice how yellow and blue pearl when Zircon said that’s why was would they react like that when Zircon said “pink diamond’s pearl”…because they knew that she was really white Diamonds pearl our Pearl.  Now wait I have an explanation my reasoning.

I believed that they knew because they were high ranking pearls.

Pink was still a young diamond she didn’t know anything  so White Diamond gave her Pearl to Pink. And during the time Pink thought it made sense since she was a beginner it would make sense that she would be sent her attendant that knew how White Diamond worked to help her further her training into becoming leader. This experience Pearl would guide  her through her next colony so she was told…

But what Pink didn’t know was that White Diamond had disowned her pearl. For what ever the reason our pearl was considered defective or maybe failed job for White Diamond.  Whatever the reason White saw our was unfit she  tossed her away. That could explain why Pearl is such a perfectionist, or so OCD because she was traumatized by it and swore to be perfect from now on. It took such a toll on Pearl mentally that she thinks so lowly of herself and always has to prove herself. That’s why Pearl was so dedicated in fighting for Rose she was scared to be thrown away again. She was under Pink but was still loyal to White.

Pearl is really torn up…

When White ordered the death on Pink she had ordered Pearl to do it; White had told Pearl that if she did this for her she would accept her back into her court and she would be her Pearl again. That’s why pearl is presented as this desperate individual; remember she was willing to do anything for Rose and even die for her. That’s the type of person she is whose’s to say that she wasn’t willing to destroy another Diamond to get back to her original owner. And we all know how desperate Pearl is sometimes…

And how she did it was simple she would lie to Pink Diamond that there was a problem with the palanquin and would have her step outside to fix it…. I say this because look at the position of the palanquin it looks like it crashed the way it was setup. It was close enough for gems to see the act happened but not close enough for others to see what happened. I say this because Eyeball said she “saw” Rose Quartz shatter Pink Diamond but we don’t know how close she was she may have saw a figure that looked like a Rose Quartz

And after getting her caught off guard Pearl shaped shifted into Rose Quartz and shattered her from the front. After that White Diamond pulled a few strings and a few gems say they saw Rose Quartz did it. I know Pearl’s a small gem but with White Diamond ordered it so surely she’s know the secret in shattering a Diamond since she was one herself….

Pearl was given the order and she did it everything was swept under the rug Rose was blamed and she completed her mission. However White lied to her and she wasn’t taking her back because she was still defective and assigning her a new owner when she got back. Everything she did was for nothing and she felt like she had no purpose. That’s why when Pearl said when she served “Homeworld”, because she techinally betrayed her owners.

How Rose found her way to pearl was that Rose was trying to find out the her culprit that shattered. Then along the way she discovered it was no-other than our Pearl that destroy Pink Diamond. Instead of being upset she was surprised that a little could accomplish something like that. Pearl would tell her story and Rose would grow found and attached with her story. Pearl would call herself self a defective and say she wasn’t good enough saying “Who would want me…” And Rose being the person she is took in Pearl, despite everything she did in framing her. She saw pearl as a strong ally to have for the fight against Homeworld and well Pearl fell in love with Rose as a result.

That’s why Rose took the blame to defend Pearl. And it you don’t believe me that it was Pearl that shattered look at how she reacted when Eyeball said that she saw Rose Shatter pink Diamond (in back to the moon) she’s shaking like crazy and scared because she’s the one who really did it. And take note that she’s the only one in the show that hasn’t shape shifted it seemly that Pearl avoids it at all cost; this could be due to the guilt she has in transforming into Rose Quartz.

Though there is on piece of evidenced that I believe proves my theory that Pearl belonged to White Diamond and lied to her that she could go back her if she shattered Pink Diamond.

You see this…

I always though that pearl getting stabbed had symbolic meaning and now that all the pieces have been putt together it does. Holo Pearl represents White Diamond stabbing Pearl in the back. Promising that she could come back to her and serve if she did what she shattered pink Diamond but she didn’t keep her word. Then the place wear Pearl is stab is the stomach… the same place that Pink Diamonds gem was. Rebecca Sugar foreshadowed this since the start of the series it was Pearl, under white Diamonds orders.

But hey that’s just a theory and as I said before if you disagree be polite.

But like - here’s the thing, really.

In a world where you can bring people back from the dead, but it doesn’t always work and it’s very difficult to do so, that’s a pretty big question. Why do some people come back but not others?

Last night, Percy stopped to consider that he’s died twice and been brought back to life both times, to his mind because people still needed him. Vex still needed him, Keyleth still needed him (and she said as much while resurrecting him), Vox Machina needed him to help save the world, Cassandra needed him, Whitestone needed him, so okay, he came back for a reason.

So now Percy is forced to consider that when people die and stay dead, it must be because they served no further purpose. They didn’t have a greater fate ahead of them.

Percy’s entire family, save Cassandra, is dead and so far as he knows, they cannot be brought back. In game and meta terms, he’s right. It’d be ridiculous to drop a dozenish expensive diamonds on bringing back all the dead de Rolos and Matt would almost certainly rule that their spirits had passed on and they could not be revived (the same as Tiberius could not be).

But within the story, that means that Percy has to realize that he is alive and his family isn’t because his family wasn’t important enough in the grand scheme of things. Percy had a fate to fulfill and the rest of his family didn’t. Scanlan, a tiny asshole of a gnome who writes dirty songs and has slept with enough women to fill a dozen brothels, Scanlan they could bring back, but not Percy’s siblings. Not Percy’s parents.

Percy’s not allowed to die yet, he has to go on living because others need him. But apparently Johanna and Frederick weren’t needed. Julius and Vesper weren’t needed. Oliver and Whitney and Ludwig weren’t needed.

Just him. He was needed.

It’s not fair.

How Pink Diamond was shattered

It’s all coming together.

So lets start off with this.

This is what started the rebellion, the first act of treason from Rose Quartz, but here’s the thing, we’ve already seen the scene directly after the act of poofing pink diamond. (I specified ‘poofing’ and not ‘shattering’ for a reason, bare with me)

This is it. Right here.

If you’ve watched Rose’s Scabbard as many times as I have (so many, too many) then you know how this scene goes.

Rose: “Pearl, I’m going to stay and fight for this planet.”

This dialogue is so, so important. They’ve reached a breaking point (ha) here. Something that Rose just did has pushed them both into needing to make a choice. There’s no going back. Rose chooses to stay.

It’s important to notice her expressions here.

The first thing that strikes me is that for a few frames she’s looking away from Pearl, looking back. What exactly is she looking at? The evidence of what she’s just done? Pink Diamond’s Gem?

But it’s her eyes that really do it for me.

She looks haunted.

Then the urgency of the situation comes in through the dialogue, and here’s why I think this just happened.

Rose: “You don’t have to do this with me.”
Pearl: “But I want to!”
Rose: “I know you do. Please, please understand, if we lose we’ll be killed, and if we win, we can never go home.”

She’s done something punishable by death, so she gives Pearl the option of leaving. She still has time to give Pearl the option of leaving.

This, if nothing else is proof that Homeworld doesn’t know that Pink Diamond has been poofed yet, that the act of treason has just been committed. They are the only  gems who know what has happened, we know this because not only does Eyeball confirm that there were witnesses to Pink Diamond’s shattering but, in the beginning of “The Answer” when Pearl and Rose first attack, the Ruby guards can be heard crying out:

Who are you?!”
“Show yourselves!”

At that point all Homeworld knew was that there was a rebellion, they didn’t know who had rebelled, who attacked Pink Diamond.

Back to Rose’s Scabbard.

If Pearl returns to Homeworld now it’ll be without consequence, she won’t be blamed because nobody knows what just happened, Pearl can lie, claim no involvement, anything. Rose knows this, tries to protect her by offering her a means of escape. (It’s obvious by her body language, her hesitation, and her resignation that she wants Pearl to stay but she would never ask that of her, but that’s another post entirely ;D )

Pearl declines, of course.

(Rose looks so relieved and happy and ajshgjakhgs)

We’ve just witnessed the start of the rebellion and the birth of the Crystal Gems.

Now this. This is where and how Pink Diamond was shattered.

The rebellion is underway, a thousand year war. The Crystal Gems are outnumbered, outgunned, and it all comes to a head in the strawberry battlefield where it seems that White Diamond has been sent in to finish them off once and for all.

This mural has always reminded me of something straight out of Sailor Moon.

And I believe the same scenario played out here. The odds were stacked against them, they were facing total defeat. So Rose, like Usagi, uses her last resort, her strongest weapon.

In this case, that’s Pink Diamond’s Gem.

And this is what happens.

She never meant to shatter her.

Hey! You know which Crystal Gem can tell Steven direct answers for all of this questions about Rose and The Diamonds, especially Pink Diamond?

BISMUTH

It was White Diamond

I have a hard time believing Yellow Diamond shattered Pink Diamond. While seemingly very ready to get rid of Earth and anything else connected with Pink, Yellow seems to commiserate with Blue Diamond and openly admits that she misses her in the song What’s the Use in Feeling Blue. During all this, White Diamond is no where to be found.

During the trial, Yellow does not want details. Blue makes it very clear that she needs to know everything for her personal closure. Yellow abruptly poofs both Zircons after being semi-accused along with Blue. Yellow is definitely acting very suspicious and many would think that Yellow is the the one who shattered Pink and wishes to hide it from Blue, but I think it goes much deeper than that. I believe Yellow is covering for White Diamond.

When we first heard the accusation that Rose Quartz shattered Pink Diamond in Back to the Moon, Pearl visually was very upset after being reminded of this. Why would Pearl be upset if Pink Diamond was terrible enough for Rose to need to shatter her? Because Pink Diamond didn’t deserve to be shattered. We learn in the later episodes that Pink Diamond wanted to preserve some of Earth’s inhabitants, showing mercy towards humans. Rose would never harm someone that felt similarly to her, and especially not a strong ally such as a Diamond herself. It would be stupid for Rose to pass up the chance to get a Diamond on her side of the rebellion.

I wouldn’t doubt it if Rose did attempt to convince Pink Diamond to join her cause. If she did succeed, Pink Diamond would become a traitor to Homeworld. It is definitely Rose’s fault that Pink was shattered, but it was not her doing.

In all imagery of the Diamond Authority, White Diamond is on top. It could be understood that because of this, White Diamond is the head of the hierarchy. In her mural, she has conquered the most planets. You could believe that White Diamond would have to most to lose if the rebellion was successful. White Diamond shattered Pink since there is no room for a traitor in the Diamond Authority, and anyone going against her rule would be a threat to her personally.

If Homeworld had learned that White had shattered a fellow leader, many of Pink’s loyal subjects would have been furious and most likely would turn against the Diamond Authority. Yellow’s loyalty is to Homeworld and not her fallen Diamond, although she is hiding this from Blue due to her mourning the loss so greatly. Yellow may fear Blue herself may also turn against White, and be shattered as well. Yellow is very close to Blue, and probably wishes to prevent losing her too. Because of this, all blame was put onto Rose Quartz to avoid further rebellion. We know so little about White that it would make the most sense since as to why they are holding out on introducing her. They are hiding something big.

Only a Diamond can cut a diamond.

The not-so-flawless Diamonds

Warning, this is a super long recap/theory post about the Diamonds. Don’t worry I’ll put most of it under a cut

We got our first look at how Homeworld (or at the very least Peridot) sees the Diamonds way back in “It Could’ve Been Great” and “Message Received”

“They’re absolutely totally completely flawless beings! ….Especially my diamond, Yellow Diamond, the most perfect, the most reasonable, rational, efficient decider ever to exist in the universe! ”

We of course later in that same episode learn that the Diamonds (or at least YD) are not as flawless, emotionless and rational as Peridot describes

A/N: THANK YOU CASS for giving me this idea! HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY. It’s 7am and I was about to go to sleep but y’all bet your sweet asses that I powered up my computer to write this. ENJOY. Also listen to this, because feels feels feels.

It had been quite an adventurous day for you and Grayson. It had started with you both waking up before the sun was even up, finding Ethan awake and alert in the kitchen - which had made you laugh. You had then decided on ordering some breakfast to go so you could drive to the beach, sitting on the sand while the sky turned orange as the sun peeked from the horizon. It was a peaceful moment, until the boys had decided that swimming in the freezing cold ocean was a good idea; Gray slinging you over your back, ignoring your protests as he rushed toward the sea, Ethan in town.

Then you had helped the guys with filming a new video, which consisted of them just tasing each other and acting like two children. It had made you laugh and you all had to shoot different takes, which took a while.

It wasn’t until midnight when Ethan had left you two alone, yawning like a little lion cub and complaining about being tired. You had shared a secretive smile with Grayson, knowing that he’d just shut himself inside his room and edit until the wee hours of the morning. But you kissed him on the cheek as goodnight, waving as he disappeared down the hallway to his room.

Pearl belonged to White Diamond

SU Theory time! (For those of you who haven’t seen the new Steven bomb, turn away now because this post has a few spoilers). Feel free to message me if you wanna geek out about SU with me!

This Steven bomb has me shook. Like honestly, it was so incredible (I f*cking screamed when YD started singing like ermergurd), and it gave us so much (new gems, new song, BD FACE), but left many questions as well. The theories are going to be coming in hot so I thought I’d join the fun as well. Strap in, it’s gonna be long.

My Theory: Pearl was made for White Diamond, but Rose Quartz “rescued” her.

Let’s back up a little. According to Peridot, Pearls are submissive servants assigned to superior gems to carry out simple tasks (”They’re for standing around, and holding your stuff for you”). We also find out that Pearls are made for specific gems and that there are a lot of them.

There have been many indicators before now that suggest Pearl was made for White Diamond: their gem placement matches and Pearl has a white complexion. However, it would also appear that Pearls are exchangeable and can be assigned to any gem (Holly Blue Agate wasn’t fazed by Sapphire owning a White Pearl).

But let’s not forget Peridot’s, “And she looks like a fancy one,” when she was talking about Pearl in “Back to the Barn”. It makes sense that Pearls designed for the Most Elite would have to look superior to all other Pearls. Peridot (certified Kindergartener) is a gem expert and can tell you plenty about how gems are supposed to look and how they’re made. She can tell that Pearl is unlike a common made Pearl based on certain indicators our Pearl, even after years of being independent and free to choose how she looked, can’t get rid of.

I’d also like to theorize that Pearls made for the Diamonds have a different purpose than just “standing around and holding your stuff”. I wager Diamond Pearls are a lot like service dogs that aid and comfort their Diamonds, essentially acting as their closest companions.

Yellow Diamond ordered the Pearls to comfort Blue Diamond by singing (and dancing). This explains why Pearl sings! (and why Peridot was so confused)

(Guess old habits die hard, huh Pearl?)

Now what really sold me about Pearl being made for White Diamond was this scene:

“When I still served… Homeworld…”

We can all pretty much assume Pearl was going to say something else, but this doesn’t prove anything aside that Pearl did serve some form of authority a long time ago back on Homeworld. I would, however, like to draw attention to the line she said next. “I saw it myself. A private menagerie…”

My guess is that only high ranking gems and their entourage are allowed to tour Pink Diamond’s zoo (Sapphire must be very important). With that being said, I wager that a very long time ago, White Diamond probably wanted to witness Pink Diamond’s growing conquest and decided to visit the menagerie, with her Pearl.

So Pearl was made for White Diamond and once served for her. What I don’t know is how Pearl went from White Diamond’s aid to Crystal Gem Warrior.

(Wow, this is really long…) But I’d just like to point out a few things about the rebellion we learned from the Steven bomb and one of the biggest being Steven’s mom wasn’t the only Rose Quartz of the Gem War.

This is either extreme paranoia on PD’s part or a punishment.

If it’s paranoia, then Pink Diamond bubbled these gems because of Rose. When Rose rebelled, Pink Diamond felt betrayed by her soldier and decided to bubble all Rose Quartz to prevent further mutiny.

If this is a punishment, then Pink Diamond bubbled all these Rose Quartz soldiers because they all betrayed her. In Yellow Diamond’s song “What’s the Use of Feeling Blue”, there’s a line where she says, “Why would you want to employ her subjects that destroyed her” and after it shoots to Steven who then looks at his gem and the hundreds of gems bubbled around him. This supports the claim that these Rose Quartz soldiers also joined the rebellion but were stopped and bubbled by Pink Diamond.

But this leaves a gaping question: why didn’t she just shatter them?

(I haven’t a good enough theory to explain this. Are they trophies? Was PD looking for a way to “fix” her “corrupted” soldiers but was shattered before she could?)

(Geez I need to wrap this up.) Anyways, after the First Rebellion came White Diamond to put a stop the Crystal Gem battalion.

In this mural we see White Diamond attacking Rose Quartz and her forces. And we know that where ever a Diamond goes, her Pearl goes. Somehow, someway, Rose influenced Pearls decision to “defect” from her Diamond and join the Crystal Gems, where a Rose Quartz soldier taught her how to be a knight.

“Rose Quartz and her renegade Pearl.”

White Diamond took a huge chunk out of the Crystal Gems but was ultimately beaten back, although Homeworld forces remained to keep trying (and begin making the Cluster using shards of Crystal Gem warriors).

Blue Diamond came to Earth at some point after White Diamond was beaten back (probably to grieve some more for her dead girlfriend). Here, Ruby met Sapphire to become Garnet. And then came the second wave of the rebellion where the Crystal Gems grew in numbers once again.

White Diamond didn’t have enough man power to push back again. Blue Diamond was still mourning. So Yellow stepped up and proposed something new: a super weapon that would corrupt all gems on Earth and wipe out the resistance.

Homeworld retreated. Rose saved Pearl and Garnet from corruption. Amethyst popped out the ground centuries later. Rose became Steven.

And the rest is history.
