September 15 marks the day that Central America was freed from the colonizers and luckily for Costa Rica, they did not have to fight as hard as other countries as they were just give a letter of freedom. Compared to United States inhabitants…it is not adequate to refer to US people as “Americans” because people in Central America are also “Americans”…Costa Ricans take a great pride on this day. On the day before, they sing the national anthem at 6pm and they have a parade with kids and lanterns. And then on the day of, nobody goes to school and there are celebrations and parades all day.
So, what did I do? Well, I hung out with my host family and we left San Jose at 8am to head on over to Puntarenas. Which is like the Florida keys. Puntarenas is on the Pacific side and is a hot spot for granizadas and beach activities. What is a granizada?! Is the question you probably asked. Well it is shaved ice and condensed milk and fruit juice and sometimes you can even add ice cream! It’s a legit dessert food/drink for hot and humid weather at the playa.
OH and also, Puntarenas is also one of the best places for seafood. Which is why my host family went there to purchase like 10kilos of fish and shrimp and such.
like always…enjoy these pictures and videos!
