When the Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wa sallam) arranged the marriage of his daughter. He said to Umm Ayman: “Prepare my daughter Umm Kulthoom for marriage and present her to Uthman ibn Affan, and beat the daff in front of her.” She did that and the Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wa sallam) said “O my daughter, how did you find your husband?” She said: “The best of husbands.”
[As-Seerah an-Nabawiyyah by Abu Shahbah, (2/231); Dima’ ‘ala Qamees Uthman, (p.22)]
When Abu Bakr delivered the sermon he stood on the step lower, by one, than the step on which Allaah’s Messenger (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) stood. When Umar succeeded him, he came down one more step lower than Abu Bakr’s. When Uthman succeeded them, he said, ‘This will go down and down.’
Fear Allaah, for, fear of Him is shield against His wrath and a means to Him. Beware of choosing others than Allaah. Stick to the main body all together and become not parties. ‘And remember the favor of Allaah upon you - when you were enemies and He brought your hearts together and you became, by His favor, brothers.’
Mu'awiyah ibn Abi Sufyan:
O Ameer al-Mu'mineen, come with me to Syria before the situation gets worse and you will not be able to handle it.
Uthman ibn Affan:
I will not trade being close to the Messenger of Allaah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) for anything, even if it leads to the cutting of my neck.
Then I will sent an army to you from Syria, to stay in Madinah and confront the expected dangers and protect you and the people of Madinah.
I do not want to reduce the provision of the neighbors of the messenger of Allaah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) with these soldiers coming to live amongst them, and I do not want conditions to become crowded for the Muhajirin and Ansar.
O ameer al-Mu'mineen, you will be assasinated.
Allaah is sufficient for me and He is the best of disposer of affairs.
[Tareekh at-Tabari (5/353)]
Uthman was kiled when the Qur'aan was in front of him, and when his hand was cut off, the blood spilled onto the Qur'aan that was in front of him, and it fell upon the verse:
"So Allaah will suffice for you against them. And He is the All-hearer, the All-Knower." [Qur'aan (Al-Baqarah 137)]
