Sunday May 31st

The Colossal Show and Tales is a themes storytelling show where invited raconteurs will share their true life stories live as part of APICC’s Asian American Festival! It’s like this American Life meets TEDtalk without the expectations of being critically acclaimed.

This May, performers will be sharing their stories about Sparking Light. They’re welcomed to interpret the theme freely, so long as the story is true and about themselves. After each story, hosts David Nguyen and Imran G will conduct a brief interview to get to know more about each story teller.

Featuring stories from:

Dhaya Lakshminarayanan
George Chen
Stefanie Chow
Tim Kim
Christy Chan

Dhaya Lakshminarayanan | Snob Theater

Pronounced “Dye-yah,” not “De-hiya” as some may think, is fiery yet enjoyable.

Dhaya is a San Francisco-based comedienne, television host, writer, business consultant, and ubergeek. Her life is comedy– including her traditional Indian upbringing, nerd-pride, childhood in the Deep South, socio-political happenings, and daily amusements in colorful San Francisco.

Before starting in the business of “show,” she taught “Charm School” at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where she graduated (twice). She’s traveled to Cuba as a researcher, worked as a venture capitalist, chosen to be Ms. August ‘06 Saffron Rare Threads, and attended Democratic National Conventions (twice) as a journalist.

Like a true geek, she has a long list of successes:

  • Television Host, “High School Quiz Show,” on PBS’s WGBH, premiered March 22, 2010: Check it out here
  • Stand-up comedienne performing in New York, San Francisco, Boston, Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles, winning competitions, selling out shows, and captivating audiences in theaters, clubs, and outdoor arenas
  • Plays a Doctor (no, really) on TV (Amgen Commercial), a model for Match.com, and a field reporter for Mom’s Rising Mother of the Decade viral video (2M hits)
  • Taught public speaking in Kathmandu, Nepal and 5 major Indian cities.

In her free time she collects action figures, does math problems in her head, meditates, skateboards, and calls her mother.

Dhaya Lakshminarayanan will be performing at Snob Theater on June 24th with musical guests Lia Rose and Kelly McFarling with fellow comedians Joe Gorman, Grant Lyon, and Julian Vance.
