devour comics

an innocent lesson gone wrong

▲NEONworld Comic Project Update!▲

- This time is a concept art of the antagonists, Light Devourers or Nyxborns, an alien race from the darkest corner of the universe. They seek and destroy lights wherever they find. Unfortunately, the doom has come to the protagonist’s planet, Lost Light.

It was a very slow day at work today so I went looking for something online to read. Found your comic and devoured it! The work day ended with me 15 pages from the end of Act 2, Chapter 7 and I rushed home to finish it just now. It's incredible! Love the story, the characters, the art, the design of the Beast, it's all wonderful! So glad to have found this so now I can follow along to the end. Amazing work, very well done! Can't wait to see how it ends! :D

Thank you so much, Bs-Fangirl! Nice job having such a chill workplace! Hope you’ll stick around for the Thrilling Conclusion!

I wasn’t [a comic book fan], but I am now reading the Jessica Jones comics and devouring them. And [I’m] hooked. I don’t think I’ve been so hooked on something since Serial. So now I feel that way about the Jessica Jones series. I can’t wait. I mean, as soon as we’re done today, that’s what I am going to be doing. I’m really excited about Jessica Jones. It’s so fucking cool. It’s so cool. I can’t wait to watch it.

I’ve decided I’m going to do the 30 Day Cosplay Challenge, not only to encourage myself to post more regularly, but to chase those winter blues away and get me revved back up for costuming in 2015. So here we go!

Day 1: Your First Cosplay

The year was 2004 and I wanted to be Rogue for Halloween. Not the Jim Lee/90’s cartoon Rogue everyone would immediately recognize, but her original appearance outfit. I had been devouring as many comics as I could get my hands on, and loved Rogue in the green and white outfit and her story and struggles during that time. I had no idea cosplay existed. Thankfully, I discovered the (now unfortunately dead and gone) X-Men Cosplay Forum, where so many helpful people set me on the right track to building this costume. I had only ever used a sewing machine for sewing patches onto jeans, nevermind working with spandex, but powered through this via sheer determination. No one recognized who I was on Halloween (I got a “Are you supposed to be the green Power Ranger?”), but I had been introduced to the world of cosplay and haven’t looked back since!

This blog is dead, gross.

To all those who have been wondering what I’ve been up to, here it is in brief:

I experienced a crisis starting in 2013 along with a bunch of personal bullshit I’m not going to bother discussing. It consumed all of my time, energy, and my health was severely impacted.

Came out as transgender, now I’m living as a male with a new name/so much muscle VERY MUCH MUSCLE.

I’m in school as a full time student. I’m hoping to transfer to the University of Washington next year.

I am also a full time security guard.

Last year I went through a period of starvation due to stress. Unbeknownst to me I was also suffering from undiagnosed type II diabetes. The combination of stress, starvation, and undiagnosed diabetes resulted in brain and nerve damage. I shake almost constantly now, slur like a drunk when I’m really stressed out, and suffer from neuropathy on the left side of my body.

The good news is that I’ve changed my diet drastically and I’m on a recovery plan. It’s going to take time and effort but I’m working with some awesome healthcare professionals that are getting me back on track. The shaking has been reduced and I’m starting to regain feeling in my lower left leg.

It sucks, but I’ve been working hard and it’s been getting better. I’m not talking about this stuff because I want a pity party, I’m mentioning it because goddamn having an undiagnosed life threatening illness sure fucks things up!

No, I haven’t forgotten about it. I had promised that I would limit my art severely and not work on my future projects until everyone:

A. Has gotten their packages.

B. Been refunded.

This is still a priority for me, and now that I actually have an income I will be able to start paying people back. Unfortunately enough time has passed that my old computer died and my new laptop only has a fraction of information.

Regarding Devour Comics Order

Orders will be sent out as I get them. Each order will include a hand made lithographic print instead of a sketch. No guest art will be included as I have severed ties with my old collaborators.

Refunds will be given on a first come first serve basis as the money comes to me, I still have transport/rent/food/medical stuff to pay for.

I am going to return to making art and I’m putting these old projects behind me for good. Partners and Thieves will no longer be sold either online or at conventions and I am starting over with a clean slate.
