Well, this is Sierra from CocoRosie’s side project. It is odd, as is everything that comes from either of these sisters. It is extremely psychedelic(they must have been on something!) But I love it! There are parts that are harsh, like a wailing into a radio, and others that are very melodical and operatic. I love this contrast. Their music freaks me out a bit, but I think that’s what I like about it.
Desert Cathedral (2014) directed by Travis Gutierrez Senger, starring Lee Tergesen
Short Synopsis: A man leaves his life, and drives into the desert to find a place to kill himself as a P.I. his wife hires follows him.
My Review: I felt this film could have lead up to two different endings. Along this man’s journey you learn to see why he would feel the need to go off on his own to kill himself. But like his perceived failure at everything in life, he also fails to die. The places he goes and spends his time while searching for the perfect place to die are beautiful and the cinematography shows it off very well. When the P.I. finds him, they become friends, and it’s the P.I.’s inability to register the situation correctly that leads to him finally being able to find the perfect place to die. The fact that it was a true story, and the film used real home footage from the family, made it very emotional and sad to see him and hear his V.O.s to make it that much more real. For me, it moved a little too slow, but I do feel the directing, writing, acting, was very well done. I would slightly recommend this to people that also feel the real pull of inadequacy and depression.
