depending on your blog

anonymous asked:

I have a demon character with horns. Can horns break? If so, is it painful? can it heal / grow out? Thanks, and love your blog!

An excellent question my friend. It depends on what sort of horns we’re talking about.

(Ram Image Source)

Animals with true horns, which are mostly ruminants like the ram and friends, which is also the classical demon look, have a core of living bone in the center of the horn. The outer layer is composed of thick keratin, but it is the shape of the living bone core that dictates the shape, size and direction of the horns. The living bone core is often much smaller than the keratin component.

(Goat skull showing bone core of horns)

The keratin has no nerves and little blood supply. The living bone core has a whole bunch of nerves, an impressive blood supply (it is bone after all) and if you break the horn too close to the skull then you will also have a big whopping hole into the frontal sinus.

This would be at least as painful as breaking one of your bones.

Horns can certainly heal, but they often heal in a not quite right manner. If you haven’t completely fractured off the living bone then the shape template for the new horn will be different. If your character has lost the living bone core, but still retains the germinal layer of cells around the base, then they can develop scurs.

A scur is like a remnant horn growing without a template. They often occur when de-horning hasn’t quite been done right or after trauma. They have an unpredictable shape, can grow in any direction, and are frankly quite annoying.

(A particularly funky scur)

These are often tipped (cutting off a portion near the end) and sometimes have no blood supply. They have no feeling, and can twist around to grow into other areas of the animal’s head.

There are other structures animals have which we often refer to as ‘horns’, even though they’re not true horns like these.

(Rhinoceros image source)

Rhinos do not have a living bone core in their horn. You can cut off parts of these horns, they’re made of keratin and can be thought of similar to a very fancy finger nail.

But uh, don’t be tempted to do it like the poachers do it, where they cut a straight line including both horns and part of the skull. That is going to be the equivalent of fracturing a true horn at the base and entering a sinus (or nasal cavity in this case). I’m not posting those pictures on here.

But lastly, another anatomical feature we humans sometimes think of as ‘horns’ are antlers.

Antlers are dead bone with no covering when mature. They are shed every year. When they are mature they have no feeling and no blood supply except at the very base. While they are growing they have a good blood supply,  but when mature they are inert. Antlers don’t grow bigger as such, they are shed each year and regrow, sometimes into a bigger or more pronged shape, depending on the species.

So take your pick. I don’t know which sort of horns your demon has, but I hope that’s answered your question.

Hi everyone! I’ve had this blog for a little over a year now, and it has made such a huge difference! I remember feeling overwhelmed when I made this blog, so I thought I would make a little welcome-to-the-community guide for those of you who are looking to make a study blog of your own.

the basics

  • Why start a study blog (aka studyblr) in the first place? Because you want to be motivated to do better in school, want to find new ideas, or just because you like pretty stationery. There are a ton of good reasons to start one, so go for it!
  • What do I have to do to be a studyblr? Make a blog and follow some other study blogs. That’s pretty much it. There are no GPA requirements, supply lists, or complicated rules.

how to start a blog

  • You can either start a whole new blog (make a new account), make a side blog, or start posting study tips from your current blog. It all depends on your personal preference and how much you use the blog you have now.
  • Your url is an important part of your blog because it lets people know what you’ll be posting about. Your name + studies is a common url to see, but you can get more creative if you choose!
  • I suggest avoiding tumblr default themes and instead finding one you like from @theme-hunter. If you don’t have any experience with coding, you can pick up the basics you need to install a theme from Youtube.
  • After you have your blog all set up, make a post introducing yourself. Include a little bit about yourself like your name, grade level, major (if you have one), interests, and tag your favorite blogs so that they can help get the word out about you!

connecting with the community

  • Message/send asks introducing yourself to other blogs. It’s easy and it works, study bloggers are usually really friendly and welcoming!
  • Enter blog of the month or blog awards to get your name out there.
  • Send random asks, just because. It makes people smile!

creating original posts

  • You don’t have to make your own posts, but it helps to get your name out there and it’s nice to be able to share your own study tips.
  • For pictures, try posting your notes, study setup, or favorite supplies. Good lighting and editing with an app like VSCOcam will make them more appealing and get more notes.
  • Making masterposts is my favorite way to create content. Think of any topic that you know about or would like to learn about, and write out a post of resources or tips.
  • Canva is a great free site for making graphics
  • Tag your posts with relevant tags like #studyblr #studyspo, as well as the urls of different blogs as people will usually reblog posts they have been tagged in.

making your blog work for you

  • Above all, having a study blog is about improving your study habits.
  • Create a good tagging system so that you can find posts later. It should be simple and easy to remember (this post would go under #masterpost #new studyblr #tips for me).
  • Find a study buddy or group to keep you motivated
  • Reblog only things that you find inspiring, regardless of how you think your blog should look.
  • Start the 100 days of productivity challenge to stay accountable
  • Install a site blocker so that you can log off and focus!

Welcome to the community! I hope that you find it as beneficial as I have, and I look forward to meeting some new faces!

that feeling when your fp talks to someone else while taking to you and you want to disappear and not talk to him until he comes crawling back but you know that won’t happen because you’re too attached to leave them alone for more than an hour

Hey people! omg i’ve been so disappeared the last weeks :(( i feel sorry, i really missed being around here but today i finally get enough time to come back ^^ so anyway i wanted to do something so i decided to do this little thing <3

  • you don’t have to be following me but i appreciate if you did!
  • reblog this post to spread the word
  • send me an ask telling me whatever you want, how has been your day, your thoughts about something, the last show/movies you watched, etc.
  • i will be doing this for a while so just send  an ask
  • blacklist “jude does things” if you don’t want to see these

format under the cut!

thinking of starting a discourse-y blog myself. got any recs of who's good to follow?? (also i love your blog!)

ah, thank you! it really depends on what type of discourse your blog will be focused on – mine is kind of all over the place, but most of the themed discourse blogs i follow are anti-antis or pro-ace discourse (and btw if i rec someone i might not know everything that they’ve ever said so… keep that in mind) also i… don’t follow As Many blogs as i wish i did bc i tend to avoid blogs with lots of fandoms that aren’t my thing so. there are lots of other blogs out there that i’m sure are great! also like… this is entirely off the top of my head and for ace stuff specifically i haven’t been That Involved lately so idk much about the blogs anymore. ANYWAY-

for general discourse i mostly reblog from @rhodanum (also fandom stuff and SO MUCH GOOD CONTENT OKAY) and @merliniscryingandalone (purely Discourse)

for anti antis stuff, there’s @antiantis-saltmine, @reysistantis, @alluraagainstantis, @yourshipisfine

for pro-ace discourse there’s @aphobe-nonsense, @idiscourse,  @justaphobethings

i know this is… probably not a great response but hopefully this helps somewhat! feel free to message me if you make a discourse blog so i can follow you :)

Hi! I've just recently come out to my mom and a few friends as ftm, and my mom's primary concern was just about like how to transition and stuff. I've read around and found out that in order to start t, you usually gotta go to a gender therapist first. So, I was wondering, what are visits with a gender therapist usually like? I know it's different for everyone, but I was trying to get a general idea. Thanks, and I love your blog!

How depends on where you are as requirements can vary. In most cases you will need to see a therapist to obtain the required letters. Research for your area specifically so you have the correct information as it can vary on a state level. Im going to link you to a few videos which might help with this. Dara is a gender therapist and has many other videos as well which you may find useful

The 2nd one talks about what to expect

Generally its about your background and stuff like that to try and find out what you need and assess you for gender dysphoria. It will vary by therapist and what you are looking to get out of it as well. Im not in the US so I have no experience with this type of therapy. I dont know if our assessments are equivalent or not as the process is different. This is open to followers to add their input and experiences of what it was like for them. Have a look through the ‘therapy’ tag on the blog page as well

Hello! Thank you for your masterposts! I have an ask: what about the Military AU? What are they going to use? First name? Surname? Patronym? I really need this because I want to write something. Thank you again! Ehm... spasibo! >\\\<

Omg ok, this can get kinda complex and if you need further clarification feel free to message back but I’ll try to be as straightforward as possible. I’ll cover both Soviet & modern era just in case.
FN=first name, P=patronym, LN=last name.

I’ve seen a few different Soviet AUs within the fandom, they seem pretty popular. In which case we’re going to see a few different terms. Zemlyak is one and translates to “countryman”, basically used for two soldiers from the same city/country while abroad. I’ve heard of davarish too, which I’ve seen translated as “friend”, but I haven’t seen it that much and can’t personally confirm. These are informal and can stand alone without a person’s name. If you want to pull from this section, I honestly suggest just saying “countryman”; it’ll give you the historical tint without sounding odd in English. ie “Countryman, you dropped your bag.” These terms are pretty old-school, though; I’ve only seen them in the context of the Soviet era.

And then, there’s tovarisch, which you would have seen especially in military life. The reason behind this one is because titles like “Mister” were seen as too capitalistic, so everyone was supposed to call each other as tovarisch (товарищ). Nowadays it translates out to “comrade”, but I’ve also seen it as “citizen” (re: Ayn Rand). Literally, it should be “friend”. For simplicity’s sake, because this is how we know it in English, I’m just going to say “comrade”, but if you ever see “citizen” being used, that’s why, and it gets more complicated the further in you go - you’ll see below. Between the 30s-80s, not using comrade would have been disrespectful among Party members, so if your fic has some of these not in the military they’re still going to be called comrade with or without their LN, it was a generic term like Mr/Ms. It could also be used when addressing others your character doesn’t know (so again, ie Comrade, you dropped your bag.). This should be especially stressed in the military because of its formal setting. Now, this has obviously been dropped in modern life, no Russian would use “comrade” seriously - except in the military.

Here’s a basic idea on how you should be addressing people in the military for the Soviet & modern era (exception for Citizen, that belongs to Soviet era):

For a prisoner/ex-spouse/basically a Bad Person to you, like the waiter that just fucked up your order & apparently deserves no respect: Citizen (it’s like saying “the Citizen”, rude)
For some rando in the military: Comrade + rank (ie Comrade Private) / also used in general (ie Comrade General)
For someone known in the military: Rank + LN* (ie General Nikiforov)
* Comrade + LN is a formal address for people in the military, it shows distance or conduct, and it would’ve been used during meetings.

Other notes:
- if a superior & lower rank were talking casually, they’d drop to FN+P with each other, so your general and lieutenant can address each other like this in a casual setting. ie Viktor and Georgi could do this in your fic.
- if the superior is praising/admonishing an inferior, Comrade + LN would be used. ie “You messed up, Comrade Popovich, stop crying.”
- obviously once the military setting is dropped you’re not going to keep using all these; Yakov wouldn’t have taken Lilia out on a date and called her “Comrade Baranovskaya” in the old days. refer to the masterpost when the military formal setting is dropped & two friends/lovers/etc. are talking; ie you could use just first names or diminutives or FN+P when two privates are talking during downtime, depending on how close they are/etc.
- if you really want your narrative to be correct in the Soviet era you could use Comrade + LN, so constantly referring to Viktor as Comrade Nikiforov, though that might sound funny to English-speakers so that’s up to you.

Historical note: if you want to get as accurate as possible, just know Soviet/Russian life in the military is different than in the American. Ever heard of portyanki? Those didn’t go out of use until 2013. Just make sure to do your research or be vague, there’s going to be differences you never even thought of, especially the farther back you go.

Hey guys, welcome! My name is Grace, and I’ve decided to create this blog because I thought making a common community/hub specifically for all of us to come together to share our stories, and give each other advice would be neat.

In retrospect, it’s almost like a Tumblr within a Tumblr. However, I want to organize it in a way that 1) the best and most helpful content is on here and 2) it’s easily navigable. You can go to different sections of this blog depending on your needs. My hope for this project is that it can be a helpful resource for people growing up in this day and age. I don’t know how far this’ll go, but nonetheless, it’s going to be fun :)

My general idea for this blog is for it to feature things that can enhance all aspects of our lives. Down below I’ve created a list of posts I was thinking of including on here (it’s ongoing and as this community–hopefully–expands, more feedback from you guys will help make it grow):

How To Make A Masterlist *updated*

Step 1:

(On a computer), go to your blog, like your actual page, and in the top right corner, you should see the above selections. Click on Edit Theme.

Step 2:

This is what should come up.

Step 3:

Scroll down to the very bottom. You should see Add a page. Click it.

Step 4:

This is what should pop up.

Step 5:

In the ‘body’ area, type it whatever you want people to be able to see. Whether it be a preference, an imagine, whatever you want. Highlight it, and click the small infinity shape. (Circled in the photo).

Step 6:

When you click it, this should come up. Now, where it says Link URL, you want to copy and paste the link that belongs to the piece. Once the correct URL is in there, hit Insert Link.

For example, if I was adding a preference to my masterlist, say it was ‘After A Fight’, where it says link URL, I would put

Step 7:

Now, it’s time to fill out this part! Now, depending on your theme, you still want to make sure that the Show a link to this page is on. If it is grey like the above picture, it is not on. Where it says Page Title, add your title like ‘Preferences’ or ‘Imagines’ or whatever you like.

Step 8:

When creating your URL for the page, you can add whatever you like, it helps if it goes along with the page. Keep this step in mind for step 10.

Step 9:

Once you have SAVED your page, when you come back to the main section, it should look like this (number of slots depend on number of pages).

Step 10:

Now this is where it depends on your blog. IF your theme has something like this, then you want to fill it out in order to have the links visible and accessible on your blog. Where it asks for Link # URL, you want to add the URL(s) you created in step 8. And make sure to title it so it is visible on your blog! MAKE SURE YOU SAVE EVERYTHING BEFORE EXITING THE EDITING PAGE!

Final Step:

Now, depending on what theme you have, hopefully the links show up. It could look something like this if you have a theme like mine, or it should be a sidebar links. If you follow the steps above, there shouldn’t be much of a problem!

I hope this helps anyone wanting to make one of these! If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

@robronspoilers puts up with so much and yet they are always nice. They try to take the high road when someone is not nice to them. They do so much work to help us know what is with Robron. When I message a question they always answer. I think they need a shout out as a way to say thank you very much. We appreciate you. @bettaklaineronron is so sweet. Always kind and a fierce defender of robron. She can pick me up when I am nervous about robron. She never says a negative word about either.

Oh wow anon! I’m honored to be able to pass this message along to them. I’ve also noticed some rather nasty asks that they have received so I’m happy to send some love their way. @robronspoilers please know that you are loved and appreciated. So many of us depend on your blog. Thank you for all you do for us, even when we are not the most grateful.

@bettaklainerobron have some love. Thank you for loving the boys and being such a bright spot in this fandom.

Noah fence fren but I basically depend on your blog for inspiration when I'm rping as Show Pony please tell me everything about them that you headcanon nobody's sending asks to my rp blogs so I need to be Interesting™ help

Ok! Well, glad to hear that you like my blog and all (dunno why). Anyways,

Show Pony is fabulous, but he has a very dark side of him too.

Show pony is depressed and mentally insane, but he suppresses it enough so that no one finds out.

Show Pony's best friend died when he first got in the Zones

He can still remember how he couldn’t tell her blood from his own.

Show Pony was captured by BLI, and they made him have hallucinations, he still gets him today.

Show Pony wishes that Tommy would like him more, because he tries so hard everyday to get everyone to like him.

Show Pony got so drunk one night he almost got alcohol poisoning. It was Doc who found him, crying and almost passed out in his room.

Show Pony is very good at hiding things.

Show Pony carries around a knife around at all times. It’s in case he gets captured again. He intends to use it on himself.

Show Pony loved everyone and has almost died multiple times for different people.

Show Pony has reached the 2 level of death before.

His depression comes in waves for him, so there are times where he is actually happy.

You can tell the slight difference between when he is faking it and when it’s real.

Doc is the one who notices the most.

Show Pony doesn’t dream. He actually takes pills so he does that dream anymore (the ones he swipes from BLI.)

The nightmares became too bad to handle.

Show Pony isn’t as simple as he is at first glance.

How interactive are your entities from Magickal Menagerie? I've seen you mention them before on your blog.

It depends on the entity, but overall they are very interactive! :)

anonymous asked:

hey this is a bit of a random question but here goes: I know the title song in poto is pre-recorded for shows, but what about things like west end live? do they just come on stage to lip-sync to a pre-recorded song and go home? that seems a bit weird. or do they do the live take in concerts? love your blog <3

For concerts it really depends on the singers. Dale Kristien, for example, prided herself in doing it life if she could. And that clip of Manon Taris singing it live in front of the Palais Garnier will forever be a favourite. But often in concert it’s playback, with the actress singing on top of it. I know this was the case with Gina Beck in the concert she did when she was first cast, for example.

I would link to YouTube if I had the energy… but not right now. :)
