White House: Birth control mandate should not be blocked
The Justice Department said in a filing that religious nonprofit groups can certify they do not want to provide contraception coverage, but a group of Catholic nuns say that it would violate their beliefs to even sign that form.
Sotomayor has not said when she will make a decision. She can either send the case back to the federal courts or ask her fellow justices to consider it as a full court.
