Why knowing your stuff is important

Alternative Title: Why you should not bull shit your artwork [© Neo]

So a few days ago I wanted to draw an epic painting/wallpaper with Shifter. I started with the general sketch:

Cool, awesome. Totally digging it. So I started sketching again to get the lines and clothes right.

Yeaaaaaaah damn. Awesome. Digging all the angry lines, but didn’t see the anatomy flaws right there. [Barbie arm syndrome right there! © Neo] In fact, I didn’t understand why it looked off - and so I started painting. Painting Painting Painting… And ended with this here:

Wait. There is something off with that pose. But what?

Let’s redraw the pose…

……………………………………………………………

Ow.

OW.

All right so I had wasted three hours on that thing now…
Just because I didn’t see the anatomy mistakes.

SO IT WAS TIME TO EMBARK ON A LEARNING AND REDRAWING JOURNEY…

And after two days of struggling, I ended with this today:

IT WAS PAINFUL. VERY PAINFUL. That is why, people,

DON’T BULLSHIT ANATOMY OR ANYTHING IN ART. [© Neo]

OTHERWISE YOU WILL HURT AND LOSE VALUABLE TIME.

Now, just to show the difference again:

I’ll start painting that tomorrow.

Thanks to NeoFox [omgwtfneo on Tumblr] for helping me out so much during that progress!!! <3
