As Evil Dead 2 was released in the theaters unrated, to air the film on television would have not been possible without a completely alternate edit. The Renaissance team took to editing the film in hopes of being able to sell it to American networks for some additional revenue but strangely enough, this alternate “Severely Edited for Television” cut only ever landed on Canal 5 south of the border in Mexico. Thought to be aired in the 1990s, this cut had to edit in new footage to make up for the lost time from anything cut out so it would be suitable for television. As a result, this edit was vastly different, very toned down, and used footage not known to any other release in the world. As of today, this cut has still never been officially released to home video.
