Illustration for a book review of “How To Be Both” by Ali Smith. The book is split in two, one half of the book is from Francesco Del Cossa’s story and the other is from a girl named Georgie’s story. The book was printed with two versions, one where Del Cossa’s story is first and one where Georgie is first.
The illustration is based on a painting Del Cossa, a real Italian Renaissance fresco painter, did of a flower with eyes for petals. You can look it up. It’s about the duality of past and present and and how they’re simultaneously present and interacting.
They ended up using the first illustration but I liked both so I decided to post both. Thanks to AD Nicholas Blechman!
