decriminalizes

people wonder why i want sex work decriminalized. because when an adult consents to sex in exchange for currency, i deserve to be protected if im assaulted. if i agree to set terms and a client violates me, they should be prosecuted without me or other sex workers fearing for our own freedom

now i cant do anything. i just have to block his number, keep doing survival sex work and pray i dont get hurt anymore.

please support your local sex workers. protect us. help spread our voices.

Why don't we talk about Portugal more?

They decriminalized ALL drugs. Every single one. Yes, even that one. If you get caught w. more than a 10 days supply (what ever that means) of any drug you meet in front of a Doctor, Lawyer and Social worker about drug addiction. They may or may not give you a fine but essentially there’s no penalty.

AND IT WORKED! ADDICTION RATES DROPPED. HIV RATES IN INJECTION USERS DROPPED. DEATH BY DRUG OD PLUMMETED.

Potugal has shown us that when we treat drug addiction as a medical/health issue, instead of a moral one, it is more efficient.

LA set to decriminalize street vending in order to protect immigrants from deportation.

The Los Angeles City Council voted Tuesday to draft a law that would decriminalize sidewalk vending, in an effort to protect immigrants vulnerable to deportation.

Hawking food and goods on the sidewalk can currently lead to misdemeanor charges in Los Angeles. City attorneys will now be tasked with drawing up a new ordinance that would strip those criminal penalties and authorize the city to eventually issue vending permits — a first step toward legalization.

Things to remember this Pride Month

This pride month, remember those of us who have not lived to see this day

Remember that we lost nearly an entire generation of queer people due to the AIDS crisis

Remember those who died before their country decriminalized homosexuality

Remember those who sacrificed themselves for the next generation of queer people

Remember that the first pride was a riot

Remember that this year, pride may feel like a party and it may be a lot of fun –and it should be! – but it was not always like that. It is with great sacrifice and great struggle that today we are safe enough to celebrate

Remember that there are places around the world today where it is illegal on pain of death to be LGBT

Remember that our brethren is being tortured in Chechnya

Remember that gay marriage is not the only thing we are fighting for

Happy Pride Month

I really don't think you have a firm grasp of how sex work actually is. And you're still inserting what seems to be a personal bias about it. To "abolish" sex work would lead to more dangers to sex workers than the other option of decriminalization would. Trying to dictate how somebody should feel about their work and saying that their work should not exist does not sound very feminist.

Actually if there was no sex work, there would be no sex workers to be harmed, because they’d just have other jobs. Nine out of ten prostitutes want out, are they too stupid to know what’s good for them? You thinking that sex is something that can and should be sold is what isn’t feminist here, my guy.

Hey liberals im the communist your highschool warned you about here to tell you some scary things us evil reds want for society:

-Affordable housing for all.
-Universal Sex Ed.
-Protection of marginalized peoples.
-Decriminalizing victimless crimes (like drug use and possession, sex work, homelessness, etc)
-Free healthcare and education.
-Community organizing and urban planning.
-Rationing surplus so we’re not dumping out foods and resources while others go hungry.
-Full legal and social recognition of oppressed peoples.
-An economy focused on the use of a commodity rather than how much money you can make out of it.
-Suppression of those who want to exploit, demean, or harm others on the basis of their skin color, culture, religion, gender, sexuality, or disability.
- The people to have greater participation in politics.
- Worker’s rights.
- The private wealth of society’s rich to be expropriated and redistributed to the people.
- And more!

gudriin  asked:

i havent been keeping up with canadian politics for the past year so im completely uneducated in this regard, but can i ask what's wrong with Trudeau? I want to be more knowledgeable of what's been going on

A lot.

Here’s a short list I made a little while ago:

-Trudeau is considering selling our ports & airports.

-Trudeau is pushing an infrastructure bank, which is going to privatize public infrastructure.

-Trudeau selling weapons to Saudi Arabia.

-Trudeau approving 2 huge oil pipelines and happy about Donald Trump’s approval of Keystone XL.

-Despite making it pretty clear before the election that communities and First Nations would need to give consent for projects, Trudeau has backtracked and now says that this is no longer true.

-Justin Trudeau bailing out Bombardier with millions, doesn’t care that their CEO’s are getting huge bonuses as they’re laying off thousands of workers.

-Their Marijuana legislation is filled with harsh penalties, and it is not true legalization. There will be limits on the amount you can grow and carry (and if you exceed these limits you can be arrested or charged), and new harsh penalties related to youth & driving under the influence.

-Justin Trudeau’s government is refusing to pay First Nations children equally, despite the Human Rights Commission sending him notices saying he has to (they have now sent 4 compliance orders for him to comply with the law).

-Justin Trudeau’s government is still underfunding First Nations education.

-Justin Trudeau supports Donald Trump’s bombing of Syria.

-Justin Trudeau is in favour of Regime Change in Syria, which many feel could escalate violence in that region.

-Justin Trudeau has not ruled out sending the military into Syria.

-Justin Trudeau is refusing to change the ‘Safe Third Country’ agreement to help refugees fleeing the USA.

-Justin Trudeau is refusing to fund a basic income pilot project on PEI.

-Justin Trudeau abandoned electoral reform (a big election promise) and has stuck with the First Past the Post system (a system the Conservative Party of Canada also supports).

-Justin Trudeau refuses to decriminalize marijuana in the meantime. Cops will arrest thousands more people for marijuana possession before 2018.

-Justin Trudeau is refusing to pardon anyone for marijuana possession despite knowing full well how harmful this can be for people job searching or crossing the border.

-Justin Trudeau is not in favour of a $15/hour minimum wage.

-Despite his feminist rhetoric, Status of Women Canada received no new funding in the 2017 budget.

-Justin Trudeau broke a campaign promise to close a tax loophole that largely benefits millionaire CEO’s.

-Justin Trudeau is breaking indigenous rights to consent with permits given on the Site C Dam and Kinder Morgan Oil Pipeline.

-Justin Trudeau’s tax cut for the middle cut, benefits the top 10% of income earners the most. Those making under $40,000 per year get nothing.

-Justin Trudeau still hasn’t changed or repealed the draconian anti-terrorism bill, Bill C-51.

-Despite a push from the NDP, Trudeau is refusing to expand our healthcare system to cover things like Pharmacare.

-Justin Trudeau is maintaining Stephen Harper’s cuts to healthcare transfers.

-Justin Trudeau is maintaining Stephen Harper’s weak climate change targets

.-Justin Trudeau wants to delay a promise to cut methane (a potent greenhouse gas) emissions for 3 years or more.

There’s plenty more than that. Yes, arguably Justin Trudeau is better than Stephen Harper, but that is a very low bar to pass.

If you need sources on any of these points I can provide them.

Before Stonewall

The history of LGBT+ activism is a long and storied one, but many of those stories have been erased or forgotten. In honor of the month of Pride and all the courageous activists who came before us, here are some of them:

The Activism of Dr. Magnus Hirschfeld

Magnus Hirschfeld, who was himself gay, led a movement to decriminalize and understand homosexuality in pre WWII Germany that was highly successful given the time in which it took place. In 1897 he founded the Scientific Humanitarian Committee to study and demystify homosexuality, believing that through scientific examination hostility towards gay men and women could be reduced. In 1898 his committee presented 5000 signatures of prominent Germans to the Reichstag in favor of overturning discriminatory laws against homosexuality. The bill didn’t pass, but Hirschfeld was only beginning. In 1910 he coined the term ‘transvestite’, the very first term for what we now know as transgender people, and even - remarkably - suggested that gender might be a spectrum. In 1919 he opened his Institute for Sexual Research, a clinic created for studying and caring for sexual or gender minorities. The famous Lili Elbe (as in The Danish Girl) received treatment at his clinic.

The clinic was wildly ahead of its time. Hirschfeld not only pioneered gender confirmation surgery through the work of Dr. Ludwig Levy-Lenz but he convinced the police - the police! - to issue a special permit to trans women so that they could travel freely in their own clothing without being harassed or arrested.

As a gay Jewish man who fought for the rights of gay and trans people, it’s not a surprise that Hirschfeld was a favorite target of the Nazis. In 1933 his Institute was raided and his research burned, setting back queer liberation for god knows how long. He fled to France, where he lived out the rest of his life.

The Mattachine Society and the Daughters of Bilitis

The Mattachine society, founded in 1950, was the first ‘homophile’ (gay rights) organization in the United States. Founded by Harry Hay in Los Angeles, the society had itself likely been inspired by knowledge of Hirschfeld’s work and proposed to improve the condition of the lives of gay men in America. The group adopted the cell style organization favored by Communist groups and soon there were chapters all around the country. When member Dale Jennings got arrested for ‘lewd behavior’ he decided to fight the charges with the support of the Society, who generated publicity and sympathy around the case. The jury deadlocked, the charges were dropped and the Mattachine society declared victory.

The Daughters of Bilitis  (1955) was originally concieved as an alternative to the lesbian bar scene but quickly politicized. They provided support and education for lesbians who wanted to learn more about their orientation, as well as launching a magazine that was the first nationally distributed lesbian publication called The Ladder in 1956. In 1960 they even held a national convention.

The Activism of Frank Kameny

In 1957 Frank Kameny was caught up in the “lavender scare”, a purge of homosexuals from US Government departments, and lost his job. But Kameny was a fighter, and he didn’t take it lying down. He devoted himself to activism.

Refusing to be bullied or made ashamed of his orientation, Kameny not only founded the Washington D.C. chapter of the Mattachine society but launched what was one of the earliest LGBT picket lines in history when he and ten other activists picketed the White House in 1965 carrying a sign that said “Gay is Good”, his favored slogan. In 1963 he launched the campaign to decriminalize homosexuality in D.C. and personally drafted the bill that finally passed in 1993.

The Compton’s Cafeteria Riot

The first transgender-led riot against the police took place not at Stonewall, but at Compton’s Cafeteria in the Tenderlion district of San Francisco.

Compton’s Cafeteria was a restaurant that had become a meeting place for transgender people, as they weren’t welcome in many gay bars at the time. In the early 1960′s, the staff at the Cafeteria began calling the police on their trans customers, leading to arrests and raids and harassment. Things came to a head when a police officer attempted to arrest one of the trans women who was patronizing the restaurant, and she threw her coffee in his face. Furniture was thrown, windows were smashed, and the fighting spilled out into the street. A police cruiser had all its windows smashed out and a newsstand was burned down.

The next night trans women and other LGBT supporters formed a picket line outside the Cafeteria to protest their treatment. During the demonstration the windows of the Cafeteria were once again shattered.  Many of the activists were members of Vanguard, an early organization for LGBT youth.

Appreciate Elias Bakkoush

i wanted to make this post because with all the drama i think we are ignoring the principal reason behind the Elias character, he is breaking the cliche/prejudice about muslim, north african/arab boys being rude, evil and authoritarian towards the women in their lifes.

Elias trust in Sana, we can see it when he defends her in front of their mom.

.

He knows apologize to Sana when he does something wrong or that hurt her.

Elias wants Sana to be happy no matter what.

He show support to her even when it´s about a love interest, this kind of topics are always represented as a taboo between muslim families, and i´m glad they show it like a normal conversation between siblings.

Elias Supports, cares, encourages and gives advice to Sana because he wants her to be happy.

He show respect for his mom and he tries to understand her point of view even if he doesn’t agree.

Elias is a good brother and an amazing representation of an human and not demonized relationship between a muslim boy and the women in his life, this kind of representation is so unique and we should apreciate it.

i’m upset at the fact that all of this is being ignored because of all the drama around the fight.

We don´t know what happened in the fight, but it remainds me when in the last season Isak started a fight with Mehdi because he was upset, and the rumor was that Mehdi started the fight because he is muslim and Isak gay, now is happening the same, the only difference is that the rumors and assumptioms are being made by the fandom.

Half of the skam fandom is criminalizing a character who is made for decriminalize muslim boys.

LGBT(PN) people had to riot at stonewall, stage LITERAL DIE-ins during the AIDS crisis, fight legal battle after legal battle to earn the right to decriminalize consensual sex in their own goddamn homes, get fired from their jobs, get told they cannot use public restrooms, be subject to “trans panic” laws that legalize murdering trans people, have hundreds of programs dedicated to torturing the gay and trans out of us (that were federally funded and mandated!), and you people are acting like being called a plant and getting told you’ll “grow out of it” is comparable?? All of that was the US alone, not to mention the countless other places where you can still get put to death for being gay!

You all want to steal our resources when the resources today for LGBT(PN) people came at the cost of our community’s lives. Our elders died for these resources. Our predecessors fought tooth and nail so their blood could give us homeless shelters, crisis hotlines, legal protection, and better healthcare. Cishet aces did none of that, suffered none of that, and were part of the group that subjected us to all of that in the first place.

If cishet aces want safe spaces and resources, they can do it themselves. Yall don’t have a fraction as many obstacles and roadblocks as LGBT(PN) people did and still do to get to where we are today but yall are still too lazy to organize yourselves and actually create change.

You want resources? Make your own. Stop expecting marginalized people to cater to you. Put in the work. You want to have a community like ours? Then go fucking make one you selfish assholes.

anonymous asked:

Israel never dehumanized anyone. The "Palestinians", on the other hand, dehumanize Jews from the womb, teaching hate in schools, making Jewish blood cheaper than water. Talk to me when Hamas or Fatah decriminalize marijuana or homosexuality.

Israel never dehumanized anyone? Ok then let’s take a look at some statements made by Israel’s leaders and founders.

  • Palestinians are beasts, they are not human.” - Deputy Minister of Defense, Eli Ben-Dahan
  • The Palestinians are like crocodiles, the more you give them meat, they want more.” - Ehud Barak, when he was Prime Minister of Israel
  • The Palestinians are beasts walking on two legs.” - Menahim Begin, Former Prime Minister of Israel
  • When we have settled the land, all the Palestinians will be able to do about it will be to scurry around like drugged cockroaches in a bottle.“ - Rafael Eitan, Former Chief of Staff of the Israeli Defence Forces
  • We declare openly that the Arabs have no right to settle on even one centimeter of Eretz Israel… Force is all they do or ever will understand. We shall use the ultimate force until the Palestinians come crawling to us on all fours.“ - Rafael Eitan, Former Chief of Staff of the Israeli Defense Forces
  • There was no such thing as Palestinians, they never existed.” -Golda Maier, Former Israeli Prime Minister
  • “We shall reduce the [Palestinian] Arab population to a community of woodcutters and waiters.” - Uri Lubrani, Former Israeli Prime Minister’s special adviser
  • We have to kill all the Palestinians unless they are resigned to live here as slaves.” - Shlomo Lahat, former mayor of Tel Aviv
Fuck 4/20

****Obligatory Discourse Notice: This post is not about people who use weed for medicinal purposes y’all are beautiful and in my experience, courteous people and I hope you feel better soon****

**This is also not about people who consume recreationally in the privacy of their homes, y’all are cool too**

Ok, so, it’s 4/20, and I can’t fucking go to school because SOME ASSHOLES HOT-BOXED THE MAIN STUDIO ROOM IN THE ART BUILDING.

This is not a small room, it’s three classrooms combined into one large, naturally well-lit room, so god knows how much weed they actually had to burn to fill it like that, but it was definitely more than CO possession law allows for.  and at 8 AM this morning, I opened the fucking door to a literal CLOUD of smoke, while at least three dudes ran out the back door.

I’m not sure if it’s an allergy or sensitivity or what, but even hints of Marijuana smoke give me massively painful migraines, so I had to be driven home, and I’ve spent the last five hours on the couch crying and puking and having hallucinations becuase I was in that much pain. Fuck you guys I haven’t been suicidal in years but today was not a good day.

OH, and the department head was right behind me, and she has severe asthma and i just learned she’s in the hospital.

and the campus has closed the art building until further notice/they can clean the place out.  it’s the week before finals.  Nobody is going to be able to finish/turn in their final projects. and even if they manage to air out the building, nobody with an allergy/sensitivity is gonna be able to go in becuase that shit sticks around.  or anyone with asthma or epilepsy or anybody on other psychoactive drugs.

So, yeah, fuck you guys, you’ve ruined the whole fucking semester.

and the thing that really, really pisses me off about this?  Cannabis DOES potentially have some major health/environmental benefits, and widespread decriminalization would be a great thing for a lot of america’s poorer communities, BUT NOOOOOOO, YOU DICKHOLES GOTTA SMOKE IN PUBLIC WHERE IT’S A HEALTH HAZARD AND BE A BUNCH OF IRRESPONSIBLE FUCKHEADS, NEVER MIND THAT GETTING IT OFF SCHEDULE ONE IS GONNA TAKE A COOPERATIVE POLITICAL MOVEMENT LOL 420 BLAZE IT HAHAHAHAHA FUCK ALL OF YOU WITH A RUSTY CHAINSAW.

YOU, fuckass stoner, are the person making it hard to get the actual drug-testing done for the people who need this
YOU are being massively disrespectful and an outright danger to your fellow citizens and
YOU are gonna get kicked right in the dick if i ever figure out who you are.

Actually, there’s security cams, and when you are ID’d I’m suing your ass for damages because going to the hospital was not fun and expensive.

*I’ve been seen by a medical professional, they’re not sure what it is, and i have a history of unexpected reactions to drugs, so the can’t give me anything for it.

** I’ve taken a shower and am chugging all the fluids I can to get this to pass, and it is.  my pain is at about 6/10, not 11 now.

*** This is ALSO about the people in the quad lighting up in public, the people who brought the bong into the student union (campus cops got them at least), and anyone who DOESN’T UNDERSTAND THE CONCEPT OF SECOND-HAND SMOKE CHRIST ON POGO STICK YOU SHITHEADS ARE DUMB.

***8ALSO: dear creepy old men who were stoners back in the 60′s who show up on campus to on women young enough to be your granddaughters: FUCK YOU TOO

In conclusion: Fuck 4/20, fuck public stoner culture, fuck white boys who think this shit is funny, fuck the Marijuana industry that pushes this kind of irresponsible consumption, and fuck everything I have to go throw up again.

The Doctor Who Fan Show marks 50 years since the partial decriminalization of homosexuality in England and Wales with a special discussion of LGBTQ in the worlds of Doctor Who.

people are gonna do drugs regardless of what laws you put in place, its a fact, they’re going to do drugs, especially if they’re mentally ill, or physically dependent.

If you really wanted to get rid of drug cartels, and addiction, you’d first need to decriminalize all drug addiction and use, all of it, release everyone, especially children imprisoned on drug charges, and expunge their records.

The government should provide addicts with drugs, for free, as treatment, they should be monitored and there should be support groups, therapists, psychiatrists, etc.

Cartels can’t compete with free. Drug addicts are closely monitored by hospital staff, and worked with to get off of the drugs without being judged. Addicts aren’t being exploited by people who want them addicted, they’re getting the drugs to work on getting off of them, etc.

Like if people really wanted to work on this “Addiction problem” they’d fucking you know, work on it. And Portugal has shown great results doing similar shit.

I know it sounds counterproductive to give drug addicts drugs, but you can’t just cut them off cold turkey, and you have to work through why they want the drugs in the first place. You can get them non-physically addicted a billion times over and over again, but if you never address why theyre doing drugs in the first place it’s not going to do anything.

So they’ll just go back to a dealer, exploiting them, wanting to keep them doing drugs, etc. The dealer profits, and continues to try and get more people addicted so they can profit further off of exploiting mentally ill people mostly, and physically addicted people who would die without said drugs.

free drugs is the only way to completely crush that system of exploitation. And it has been shown to decrease addiction, and drug use as a whole.

yall see, even if weed is “decriminalized” disabled people/people with chronic pain can still get kicked off their opiates for life if they’re caught with weed in their system twice. some people need both, for any of yall that’ve ever had chronic pain, or any terrible pain at all, I’m sure you can understand, like… “decriminalizing” isn’t enough.
