On this day in 1820, William Tecumseh Sherman was born. One of 11 children he was born in Lancaster, OH near the Hocking River. His father died when he was 9, and he was raised by a neighboring family. He went on to be become a General in the American Civil War and received recognition for his outstanding command of military strategy.
