Just as you gave Hermione Granger a children’s storybook to arm her with the knowledge required to defeat Voldemort’s horcruxes, we look to the story of Harry Potter as our own weapon in fighting our real-world horcruxes. We in the Harry Potter Alliance are part of a generation that grew up with the “children’s tale” of Harry Potter, and we have allowed its stories of love, loyalty, and innocence to transform us.
—  Andrew Slack, Executive Director of the HPA, in his letter to Professor Albus Dumbledore as published in Dear Mr. Potter

Dear Mr. Potter, We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Please find enclosed a list of all necessary books and equipment.

Term begins on September 1. We await your owl by no later than July 31. Yours sincerely, Minerva McGonagall, Deputy Headmistress.

Most of all, thank you for the community you created through your fictional life. When I was reading the first books back in a tiny Chicago apartment, I had no idea that there would be wizard rock and quidditch tournaments and HP fan conferences. But I happen to have been blessed with a brother who happens to have written a song speculating about your final Hogwartsian adventure, and because of him and that song, I’ve been pulled into an extraordinary community of people who share an affection for you. Together, we’ve sent to planes to Haiti on your behalf and made the last wishes of a dying girl come true. You’ve given me gifts, dear Mr. Potter, so real and lasting that I can’t even really think of you as a fiction anymore. Like so many other fans, I will carry you with me throughout my life–thinking of you not as a made-up character, but as an uncommonly generous friend.
—  John Green in his Dear Mr. Potter letter.
