In a press release today it was revealed that a sequel to Dead Island is currently in development, which is slated for a 2012 release. However, in a stunning twist, developer Techland has revealed exclusively to GamesGo staff that Dead Island 2 will take place on none other than Isla Nublar, the island utilized by John Hammond to genetically re-engineer live dinosaurs. Although this time around the virus has spread to the dinosaurs.
“Dinosaurs are just so cool!” responded Techland after GamesGo asked why they decided to go this direction with the game. GamesGo staff was also informed that Dead Island 2 will stay faithful to the fighting styles of the original game. “We’re still putting the focus on melee combat. Guns are still going to suck, especially against zombies.” When asked how players will be expected to kill the zombie forms of T-Rex and other dinos, Techland simply said “Hey, you know, we hadn’t thought about that until now. Fuck… Oh well, the game is pretty much done at this point and it would be such a bitch to go back and tweak everything”
On a related note, Techland has informed GamesGo that Jeff Goldblum will be lending his considerable voice acting talents to Dead Island 2.
“On Kiska Island, after Allied troops had landed, this grave marker was discovered in a small graveyard amid the bombed-out ruins in August of 1943. The marker was made and placed by members of the occupying Japanese Army, after they had buried an American pilot who had crashed on the island. The marker reads: ‘Sleeping here, a brave air-hero who lost youth and happiness for his Mother land. July 25 - Nippon Army’”
