Compile dcraw for your Debian Linux

There are different reasons why you might wish to have a newer version of the commandline tool ‘dcraw’. I had to convert RAW pictures of the legendary Fujifilm X10 with its EXR-Sensor and don’t have a Windows computer for the Silkypix RAW-converter and not enough money for buying software that doesn’t play well with the EXR-RAWs how Adobe Lightroom or Camera ONE actually do.

But, however, here we go:

  • Create a directory in your home to catch the sourcecode there

for example: mkdir build_dcraw; cd build_dcraw

  • Get the source from Dave Coffins website

wget http://www.cybercom.net/~dcoffin/dcraw/dcraw.c

  • Install the necessary Libraries (if not installed yet)

sudo apt-get install libjasper-dev

sudo apt-get install libjpeg62-dev

sudo apt-get install liblcms1-dev

  • Compile dcraw

sudo gcc -o dcraw -O4 dcraw.c -lm -ljasper -ljpeg -llcms

  • Move the binary to /usr/bin if no errors occured

sudo mv dcraw /usr/bin

Et voila: dcraw -v -T -j -o0 -w -s all DSCF1067.RAF creates one TIF of your Fujifilm RAW or two if you shot RAW with EXR-SN or EXR-DR-mode (see: http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1012&message=40434567

Mega Banette & Drifblim -  dCraw

“Mega Banette or any of your favourite ghost pokemon” + “an element of your most recent team” by request!

It took me a while to do this one cause B said i should try to do backgrounds again, and i’m so glad she did, cause this looks really cool to me and i hope all of you like it!

Bonus points to anyone who can guess where they are :p

I should try and do this more often like one per week?
