DC Donut Crawl - dcdonutcrawl

The ride started from Mount Vernon Square at the Convention Center. This was very much a crawl. With 50 or so riders in each wave and cyclists of all skill levels, we were going about 7 or 8 mph on the roads. It was a nice, relaxing pace.

The first stop was Golden Brown Delicious in Dupont Circle. I chose the Gala Apple Fritter. Not as apple-y as I thought it would be, but still pretty good. The second stop was at Astro Doughnuts and Fried Chicken. The choices there were Strawberry or Samoa. I’m not too keen on either of those flavors, so I went ahead and bought a Maple Bacon. The last stop was at District Doughnut, which doesn’t have an actual shop yet (will open at Barracks Row), so it was set up in a parking lot with some other tents and vendors. I got the Brown Butter, which tasted like a sugar doughnut with some cinnamon and butter.

Of all three doughnuts I had today, I would have to say my favorite was the Maple Bacon. It was a bit sweet, but I couldn’t say no to both maple AND bacon.

Stop number three on the #DCDonutCrawl is Astro Doughnuts & Fried Chicken (@AstroDoughnuts). They’re making extra quantities of their favorite doughnuts for our crew. Here’s what you can expect:

  • Vanilla glazed $2.25
  • Chocolate glazed $2.25
  • Maple bacon $2.50
  • PB&J $2.85
  • Crème Brulee $2.85
  • Pecan Pie $2.25
  • Boston Cream $2.85
  • Pumpkin Pie $2.85
  • Apple Pie $2.85

See something you just gotta try? Be sure to get to the ride early as quantities are limited.

As a reminder, please be sure to bring cash. While cards will be accepted, you’ll help everyone out and keep the lines moving if you can pay with paper. See you all on Saturday!

New location for final stop in DC Donut Crawl

Friends, because of the overwhelming interest in this year’s DC Donut Crawl, we’ve outgrown the space we were going to use as the last stop on the crawl.

But not to worry! We’re getting a significant upgrade and taking over the old District Flea parking lot at the intersection of W St. NW and Florida Ave. NW. Here’s a map of the entire route, including the updated final stop.

We’re still going to start from Mount Vernon Square Park, then hit up GBD and Astro Doughnuts before reaching District Doughnut as the final stop on the crawl. Look! Even the route is shaped like a doughnut…sorta.

In addition to the fried fancies of District Doughnut, here are a few things that you can expect to find at the finish:

  • Ravioli Revolution will be serving up some scrumptious savory treats to counter all of the sweets you’ve been noshing.
  • Vigilante Coffee is going to have some refreshing cold brew coffee for the caffeine addicts.
  • Union Kitchen will be selling beer and other fun beverages so be sure to bring an ID and some cash money, honey.
  • Food For Life can tell you more about their organization and how you can order the gourmet meals their students make every week.
  • BicycleSPACE is going to have some gear and bikes to try out and they’re even bringing a bike blender. You heard that right! Plus, they will also be providing some prizes for the raffle.

“Raffle?!” you ask? We’ll be raffling off some sweet gear and prizes during the final stop of the event, so stick around. Raffle tickets will be available for $5, but you’ll get a FREE raffle ticket with the purchase of a DC Donut Crawl cycling cap at the crawl.

We’ll have a few other fun games and activities to help you burn off all of that sugar so come hungry and ready to party! And don’t forget to add your favorite songs to the DC Donut Crawl collaborative playlist on Spotify.

Registration is still open at http://dcdonutcrawl2014.eventbrite.com. Don’t forget to snag one of these sweet cycling caps with your registration at the discounted additional cost of $10. Caps will be available at the crawl for $15.

See you at the crawl!
