Pies & Prejudice
A modern day adaptation of Jane Austen’s classic novel, featuring: Lizzy!Dean, Darcy!Castiel, and a side order of pie!
written by LinoResearch, and illustrated byCasdasgay
as part of the Dean/Castiel Big Bang, 2013.
Castiel Novak suffers from the aftermath of a loss that traumatically changed his life when he comes in contact with Dean Winchester - an old acquaintance. That moment begins their story; a story built by tragedy, old coffee shops and empty playgrounds, held together by I Love You’s and each other’s warmth during cold nights, and eventually, torn apart by a notebook and a crushed dream for a long lost sister. It’s the story where pushing each other away is harder than facing what it’s really about, where two broken people always find their way back to each other - where two boys belong to each other, no matter much they feel like they don’t.
Title: A Fish Called Castiel Author: bellacatbee Artist: sunshinenine Fandom/Genre: Romance, AU Pairing(s): Dean/Castiel, Sam/Gabriel, Gilda/Charlie, Past Dean/Lisa Rating: NC-17 Word Count: 37,000 words Warnings: Violence, Captivity, Explicit sexual content
Summary: Dean Winchester plans on proposing to his summer fling, Lisa Braeden. He buys a ring, against the advice of best friend Charlie Bradbury, and books a table at an expensive restaurant. Before he can propose however, Lisa breaks up with him. His pride wounded, Dean drives out to the coast, gets liquored up and throws the engagement ring into the ocean. When he goes in to retrieve it, he heads too deep and that should be the end of the story.
He shouldn’t end up back on the shore, coughing up seawater with a beautiful young man tending to him. Dean doesn’t know where this man came from or who he is but he gives him the engagement ring as a thank you for saving his life. He never expects to see the guy again, but two days later he gets a call from the local Sheriff about a strange man she’s picked up wondering naked in town with Dean’s wallet and ring on him.
The guy’s name is Castiel and, much to Dean’s surprise, he’s a mermaid.
Summary: Supernatural High School AU. Moving to Lawrence with his family is the most significant event of Dean Winchester’s life. It brings a stability he’s never known, and the only thing to have more of a profound impact on him is Castiel Novak: the two boys become fast friends the day they meet. But as Dean grows older, he dreams for something beyond the monotony and constraints of suburbia, and he is haunted by the inexplicable feeling that he was born for something more than what this life offers. As he struggles to reconcile the person he yearns to be with what his family and friends expect of him, a fateful choice exposes just how fragile his life in the suburbs is, and possibly risks losing the best friend he’s ever had.
Title:Muted Angels Author: gechoholic Artist: tsuminubiaru Pairing(s): Dean/Castiel Rating: R Word Count: 14k Warnings: AU, Graphic Depictions Of Violence Summary: Alternative Reality, non-supernatural. There’s nothing worse than a case involving dead kids, at least in the book of Detective Dean Winchester. It’s just his luck that his partner is the lieutenant’s favorite, and she chooses to give them the high-profile murder case of a dead girl from the suburbs. More deaths follow, and the two of them get sucked into the world of religious cults and ritualistic murders. In the face of that, Dean’s feelings for aforementioned partner are the least of his problems.
A/N: sharing it here because you need to read this fic. Gecko is one of my favorite authors in this fandom (and also others but spn especially). and I was over the moon to be paired with her by accident (well anon claim and all).
fantasy au– Dean, heir to the throne, couldn’t be more surprised when his little brother Sam brings an injured angel from one of his hunting trips in the dangerous forest. After the angel is healthy again he asks Dean to come with him because the angels need help to end their war. Dean follows Castiel, unaware that there is more than just monsters in the forest: Four kingdoms, fighting over power and something called angelfire.
Summary: Something finally went right for the Winchesters: the Apocalypse went better than they could have hoped, leaving Sam and Adam topside. But after Cas heals Dean in Stull Cemetery, something’s been off about him. Suddenly nightly dreams of his time in Hell plague Dean and he’s seeing things that shouldn’t be there. Dean copes, but once something very important to him is taken away, he takes matters into his own hands and willingly enters Hell to do whatever it takes to get it back.
Fandom/Genre: Supernatural (loose crossover with Temeraire by Naomi Novik) / Fantasy!AU - dragon!AU
Word Count: ~145k
Summary: Captain Dean Winchester has everything he wants: an amazing brother, a great ship, a sweet fiancee, and a life dedicated to fighting in the war, protecting his country against their enemies. He really has no intention of associating with the aviators, the dragon riders, except for maybe flirting and whatever comes afterwards. What he doesn’t know is that no aviator ever has chosen his position in the army; he finds out when a newborn dragon, Castiel, chooses him to be his rider. Dean has no choice but to obey.
As Dean and Castiel join the order of aviators, Dean finds himself in a strange situation. There’s more to Castiel than meets the eye, the regiment he’s now a part of isn’t anything like he’d expected, prophecies he’d always thought of as legends are creeping their way into his life, and generally fighting out of the sea is so much complicated. Soon he realises that there’s more at stake than his own life, and there are far worse things than not surviving the next battle.
Summary: One day Cas
says, “Stars died for you, Dean Winchester”, against ruffled hair
perched atop sun kissed skin and sleepy eyes.
Dean stirs, moving to spread his
palms against the contour of Cas’ back, tips of fingers languidly strumming the
indentations of his spine. One, two, three, four, he counts, the closest he
could get to scientifically studying the anatomy of the human body.
“Is this some physics crap
again?” He frowns with eyes closed.
Cas smiles softly. “Far from
Dean’s fingers play at the base
of his back, ninth thoracic vertebrae, Cas notes.
yet another reassuring message for still-unclaimed DCBB writers
there are still a whole bunch of stories sitting unclaimed, and claiming seems to have petered out. this is for the following reasons:
there are not as many artists signed up as there are writers. there is an abundance of stories, and it’s simply not possible for everything to be claimed already.
ALL the summaries are good, which makes it hard to choose. some stories will stand out to some artists because the summary is relevant to their interests, but even if the perfect artist is sitting and pining after that one perfect story, [see point below]
only artists who want to claim a second story are allowed at the moment.
artists who missed sign-up at the beginning are not allowed to claim yet. (these are the “pinch hitters”)
authors who want to claim a story are not allowed to claim yet.
myself, I desperately want to draw for about 15 stories on the list, but when claims for authors opens up, I can only choose 3 choices. and in the end I can only draw for one. this does not mean the others are not good, or that I don’t want to draw for them or read them when they’re done. this is my personal example; I’m sure the same is true for other authors who want to create art.

Here is my second list of fic recs for the Dean/Cas Big Bang 2013 (first post here)! The list can be overwhelming, so I’ve put together a short collection of my favorites from the middle of October to the first few days of November. I’ve chosen 8 total to feature: 4 with supernatural elements (whether they’re in the actual SPN!verse or not) and 4 human AU stories.
being unclaimed at first does NOT mean your story is not good
it does NOT mean nobody will read and enjoy your story
it does NOT mean your summary is bad
it does NOT say anything about your worth as a writer, or as a person in general
currently there are still ONE ENTIRE THIRD OF SUMMARIES UNCLAIMED.
the post has been open for THREE HOURS.
this is a global challenge, which means there are people in every timezone in the world. which means people are still asleep. people are busy. people can’t be here right this second.
the list of summaries is about 20,000 words long. if artists read all of them (as they should), it could even take several hours. in order to choose their top three, out of ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY SUMMARIES, it’s not easy.
YOU WILL HAVE AN ARTIST BY THE END OF THIS. it might be tomorrow, when the mods hand what remains over to the pinch-hitters.
pinch-hitters are not “second-rate”. pinch hitters are just artists that didn’t sign up at the start. authors who want to draw too. artists who want to claim second story. DO NOT BE DISHEARTENED IF YOUR STORY HAS TO BE HANDED TO A PINCH-HITTER.
all in all, stay calm. don’t panic. everything will be okay.
Summary: Dean has just turned twenty six and has a crappy life, a crappy family, a crappy job in a crappy coffee shop, and the most fabulous best friend he could ever ask for. He also has a recurring dream that has been tormenting him for weeks, now. A dream that involves the most gorgeous pair of blue eyes he has ever seen. Blue eyes that belong to a mysterious stranger from the coffee shop, who has left him a feather and an address that prompts him and his best friend Charlie to go on a road trip to find out the meaning of Dean’s dreams, and the identity of the beautiful stranger who seem to know Dean far better than he should.
