Batman Beyond Fact #3

Did you know Batman Beyond actively avoided reusing classic Batman rogues from the get go, instead trying to create brand new ones?

Glen Murakami and Bruce Timm pushed from the start to use brand new villains for Terry McGinnis. As Bruce Timm put it “We wanted [the show] to have its own unique mythos and feel. Just bringing back old villains and updating and futurizing them, we felt it was too simple and cheat.” Some such as Bane, Mr. Freeze, Ra’s al Ghul and the Joker were eventually brought into the show but the majority of Batman Beyond’s rogues gallery were original characters.

In the creative process, the team wanted to use classic Batman rogue archetypes but with different spins. “Thus we get Inque, who’s a shape-shifter but other than that she has no relation to Clayface. She has a different motive, she has a different feel, she’s sexy, she’s liquidy.” The idea was well received by many people according to Timm, making the rogues of Batman Beyond one of a kind.

Bruce Timm to Produce New Justice League Series (x)

Whoa! DCAU mastermind Bruce Timm will executive producer a new digital Justice League cartoon for Machinima to debut in spring of 2015. Titled Justice League: Gods and Monsters Chronicles, it will be be co-produced by his Batman: The Animated Series partner Alan Burnett.

Originally announced as another DC direct-to-home video animated movie, Gods and Monsters Chronicles will now be a three-part digital series; according to Comic Book Resources it’s an original story by Timm which has nothing to do with the 2001 Justice League comic of the same name.

“‘Chronicles’ is said to revolve around a newly conceived reality in the DC universe where Justice League members Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman are much darker versions of the superheroes that people know.”
