Rey’s wonderment as they approached Takodana is something I think we should all recognize and appreciate about our own planet. It is very likely that Earth is the only planet in the galaxy with “this much green” and so I felt it appropriate for Earth Day that we all take a moment to ponder this incredible possibility!
I’ve lived 6,935 days in a
large, unforgiving universe
full of electric bills and parking tickets and loose ends
and as the days tick away frivolous things keep me hostage and
away from the sun.
But I want to go back to day one
when the strings of life had just been plucked soft enough to hear a lazy tune
and someone thought that I was important enough to devote their life to.
And I want to go back to day 365, 445, 598, 761
when there were no such thing as electric bills or parking tickets or loose ends
and there was just us and the sun.
And I would tell my younger self to hold on to the light that people give you
but know that you are bright by yourself
and even alone my lantern has kept on far after the night has fallen and
my friends have left
and if I’ve lit my way for almost 7,000 days, I can light my way for 7,000 more
loudly, quietly, and all in between
boastful, humble, and forgiving all at once
the sun has never been so far above my head or so much easier
The light in you that burns so bright
Could seem to do away with night,
I need no sun except for you
And you tell me that I shine too.
Two stars so near can’t stay apart,
Our light mingles as stellar art
And all this burning bright and fast
May well end in a cosmic blast-
Such a blazing, glorious fuss,
We might take galaxies with us.
I know I should be terrified,
Ain’t it pretty when stars collide?
