Before becoming David Bowie, David Jones played with a bunch of bands — the Konrads, the King Bees, the Manish Boys, Davey Jones and the Lower Third — none of which made it big. Hoping to distinguish himself from Davey Jones of the Monkees, Jones knew he had to do something bold. So, he assumed a new moniker inspired by a previously famous Bowie.
