Somehow I just found out about this today, which is super disappointing as both a country music and comics fan. Shame on me!

Acclaimed alternative cartoonists David Lasky and Noah Van Sciver have mined American history to produce two remarkable graphic novels – Lasky’s The Carter Family: Don’t Forget This Song and Van Sciver’s The Hypo: The Melancholic Young Lincoln. Fantagraphics Bookstore & Gallery hosts an exhibition of original art and book signing by these amazing artists on Friday, November 2, from 6:00 to 9:00 PM. More info here.

I got my copy of The Carter Family: Don’t Forget This Song yesterday. The book is a graphic novel biography of the legendary titular family, written and drawn by Seattle artists Frank M. Young and David Lasky. Publisher Abrams’ Comicart imprint has gone all-out in producing this book, even going so far as to include a CD of Carter Family music.  Early reviews have been very good, and you can find a copy in most comic shops and bookstores nationwide. Boing Boing has the first three chapters up online, if you need a preview. Also, as a full disclosure: I have a credit in the book for some background inking, and I’m very proud of my (admittedly small) contribution to this excellent piece of graphic story-telling. Take a peek.
