“Andrew was a handsome child with a precocious sparkle. When he was ready to enroll at Sunnyside Elementary, he was a comely combination of his parents, with skin that looked permanently tanned, thick dark eyebrows, and large hazel eyes. It was not immediately apparent that he was half Filipino, and in school he never said he was. He was extroverted and happy in Miss Bobbie Hatfield’s kindergarten."“No one knew he was half Filipino, and he never befriended the other Filipino students” (part 1)
Excerpt From: Orth, Maureen. “Vulgar Favors: The Largest Failed Manhunt in U.S. History.”I mean, doesn’t this sound like some Blaine/Darren fanfic description? Andrew (half Filipino/half Italian descent) spent more than half of his life denying he was even part Filipino. At some point he even told people at the clubs he frequented that he’s an Israeli pilot (does anyone remember the “butch Israeli girl” reference towards blaine?). So no I don’t think Conrad Ricamora would’ve worked. (Part 2)
“White-passing or really just looking of ambiguous descent played a considerable part in the many lies he told.. While reading the book at first my brain was going “oh god! Darren is the reincarnation of some serial killer!” “The other problem was that with his medium height and dark looks, Andrew looked commonplace. “He’s a guy who could blend into a number of different communities—Italian, Greek, Hispanic,” says Todd Rivard.”-another excerpt from the book Vulgar Favors (part 3)
Thanks for the detailed description of Cunanan from the book. Think others will be interested so I’m posting.
I already talked about the Conrad Ricamora stuff a while ago - I think this really has nothing to do with him, that Darren was an obvious cast due to his talent and background and the fact that RM knows and loves his work. I would imagine (though I obviously don’t know) that RM always had him in mind for Cunanan (even though I couldn’t believe it to begin with because he casts such huge celebs for these ACS’ but obviously Darren is on his mind) - because as you say above, it’s a pretty clear fit.
Thanks for the description!
