so yeah i think i have a new icon now

My Hamilton Story

So, I’ve been fairly absent (alright, REALLY absent) from tumblr since Hamilton got so insanely big. Not something I expected. I started this blog after I saw the show (a few weeks before the soundtrack was released) to express my obsession with this thing that still seemed so small (hard to believe).  But, I thought if anyone is still around, you might be interested in hearing my take on seeing the show on Broadway with the entire original cast before it got big, before it got flipping HUGE.

My Hamilton journey/love/obsession? started with a wedding. A good friend was getting married in Boston in September of 2015. So, it seemed obvious that my friend M and I would spend some time in NYC after the wedding. Now being the recently graduated theater majors that we were, we certainly weren’t going to the city and not seeing a show on Broadway. And, being the recently graduated, drowning in debt, theater majors that we were, we were flat broke.

We floated the idea of several popular shows. Matilda has a great run in the West End and had good reviews. Finding Neverland was an effing Oscar nominated movie-turned-musical! However, this show… Hamilton, was it? (we had to look up reviews) certainly seemed promising. The main problem was, it was sold out. Now, tickets were readily available on StubHub and my friend M was all for it. But I balked. $150 per ticket?!? That’s DOUBLE the actual, ticketed price. Insane!!! But, after some cajoling, I agreed to spend what seemed like an astronomical amount to see the well reviewed, if little talked about, musical Hamilton (the irony is not lost on me).

The day of the show (September 8, 2015) was grotesquely hot. To put it in perspective, I had a friend visiting relatives in Tehran, Iran and it was COOLER there than it was in New York City. Nevertheless, we were determined to make the best of our few days in New York. We got brunch with a friend in Brooklyn, we visited the MET and finally that evening we rolled up to the Richard Rogers Theatre. Honestly, my only thought at that time was how bad I felt for whoever was sitting next to me, because I’d spent the entire day walking around NYC in 102F heat and no way way I going back to Brooklyn to change before the show (sorry nice lady sitting next to me!).

Honestly, I had no idea what to expect. I didn’t know really what the show was about. I mean I’d heard of A. Ham but didn’t really know anything about him beyond long forgotten high school history classes. Now, for our $150 black market tickets, M and I were towards the back of the Richard Rogers, but let me tell you, the beauty of Broadway is that space is pricey so most of the theaters are small. That means there isn’t a bad seat in the house. Despite being about 6-8 rows from the very back of the theater, we still had a great view.

The lights dimmed, Leslie took the stage to start Alexander Hamilton and we were entranced. I knew nothing about the story. I knew nothing about the show. I remember desperately trying to commit My Shot, The Ten Duel Commandments, and the Cabinet Battles to memory. I remember thinking I will never see staging as brilliant as Satisfied. I remember thinking, “I need to take every single person I know to see this show”. The lyric I left with stuck my head for every minute, hour, and day, until the Original Broadway Recording was released, was: “I’m just like my country, I’m young, scrappy, and hungry.”

One of my biggest regrets was brought about by the Big Apple and Mother Nature herself. I am a child who grew up in a predominantly cold state and who’s ancestors came from predominantly cold countries. So my cold weather blood did not do well with the excessively warm NYC weather. While I was able to thoroughly enjoy most of the first act, by the time the end of Act 1 rolled around I was terrified I was going to be sick in the audience. In fact, it wasn’t until the cast album came out that I had any clue what happened to Angelica (too busy trying not to be sick). I was very confused how she came to be in London in Act 2.

On a whole, when it comes to movie audience vs concert audiences vs theater audiences, the latter is almost always, in my experience, much kinder. But when it comes to getting to the bathroom once intermission has hit, all bets are off. So whether you’re about to vom or not, no one is letting you cut in line to the bathrooms. Unfortunately the Richard Rogers Theatre in New York only has one set of bathrooms…and they’re in the basement…which is a long way from the nosebleeds where our seats were. I made my way as quickly as the other patrons would allow, down to the bathroom line, but unfortunately, by that time it stretched through the lobby back into the main level of the theater almost to the stage.

I got in line and began some deep breathing exercises, willing myself not to vomit in line. Then, I heard a voice I recognized behind me. Lena Dunham. I am/was a fan of Girls and this was my first celeb sighting in NYC and all I could think was “I am going to vomit in front of an HBO star”. Thankfully, despite the fact that the Richard Rogers only has one bathroom, there are a lot of stalls, so I was able to get in, be sick, and be back to my seat before the start of Act 2 (glamorous, I know).

Act 2 was just as enchanting as Act 1. I was utterly STUNNED that Alexander cheated on Eliza with Maria Reynolds. Then Philip’s death and the aftermath was one of the most heart-wrenching things I’ve ever seen on stage. I’m not sure if it was the combination of coming in completely blind to the story, the talent of Lin, or a combination of both (ok, ok, obviously it was a combination of both) but it was one of the most incredible experiences of my life.

I do still laugh at the fact that M and I immediately discussed the stage management aspects of Eliza actually burning the letter onstage and what anxiety that must have cause the crew.

After the show, M and I ran out to the stage door for autographs. M was a big In the Heights fan and one of our college professors had worked with Lin before, so we were excited to meet him. I’d lived in London for a year during college and studied theater there. A huge benefit of being a theater nerd in London is that a ton of incredible actors perform almost constantly in town. So you learn quickly the best way of navigating the stage door. My biggest recommendation is buying a show poster. I can’t tell you my regret at having Judi Dench’s autograph INSIDE a playbill. So buy a poster if you want to display the autographs you get.

I’d made sure M and I bought posters before the show and zipping out to the stage door was no problem. We were two of maybe 10 out there. I couldn’t believe our luck when I saw photos and videos a few months later of hundreds upon hundreds mobbing the Hamilton stage door. We got to meet every single cast member (minus Groffsauce, but considering we saw Lea Michele and Darren Criss go in the stage door, wasn’t a surprise), as well as Alex Lacamoire.

It was clear the second the show was done what a phenomenon Hamilton would be. Hearing every song, every note, it was obvious how wide-reaching and how appreciated this show and this music would be.

So thank you Lin. For one of the best experiences of my life. For making people who never really “got” music theater, or theatre in general, learn to love a whole new medium. And I hope I get to see your show sometime when I am not on the verge of vomiting.

why sam evans is so important

I think Sam is one of the best characters on TV, and yeah I’m biased cause I love Glee but if you just let me explain I think you can see why I would say that.

When I was in high school I had a gay best friend and we were in theater together. We bonded over music, dancing, and boys (ooh lala). We used to sit in my car until really late at night talking about life and he broke down crying one night because he was sad he didn’t have any guy friends. I told him it wasn’t a big deal and I’m sure that he could hang out with some of the guys from theater. (I know, I was just naive). That’s when he told me something I will never forget, he said “I just want to be friends with the guys and play video games and talk about all the stuff they talk about too. But they all think if they are nice to me I will just have a crush on them and they are all too afraid of that to even talk to me more than what is necessary.” He was so heartbroken and it completely broke my heart seeing him like that.

And I saw Sam Evans on Glee and I think he is so underrated. When Finn told him that he couldn’t sing with Kurt, do you remember what he said??

I love this scene because it didn’t matter to someone like Sam that a gay boy wanted to sing with him. His only observation on the matter was how talented Kurt was.

He even stands by his decision when Kurt tells him to get another duet partner. He didn’t care about singing with another guy, it didn’t affect him. This is so important. And then we all know what happens with Sam and Blaine… they become the world’s cutest best friends. If the boys at my high school were like Sam, maybe my best friend would have felt more accepted. I love Sam so much and he’s just such a wonderful character! (Blam friendship pics under because how can you not?)

The Goddamn Door (Klaine Oneshot)

Word Count: 1,738

Description: One of Blaine’s friends thinks that it would be a good idea to lock Kurt and Blaine inside a room together for 24 hours. Well, he’s not exactly wrong.

Genre: Fluff

Kurt sighed loudly as he turned the keys into his Escalade, placing a coffee on the dashboard and hoping that it wouldn’t tip and scold his crotch (it happened a few weeks ago, and let’s just say that there was now a small rumour that Kurt was a bed wetter).  Luckily for him, it stayed put, and he actually remembered to put it back into the cup holder so that the movement of the car didn’t make it wobble.

After the initial purr of the engine turning on, the radio suddenly started blaring out music (terrible music that is) at goodness knows how loud. Kurt shoved his fingers at the radio station buttons, changing the station to something he actually enjoyed.

He pulled out of the driveway, tapping his hands to the beat of the song. After a few minutes of peaceful journey his phone began to buzz.

“Hey Siri,” He started, “Answer the phone.”

A few seconds later Kurt was greeted by his best friend’s voice.

“Hello? Kurt, are you there?”

“Yup, I’m just on my way to Dalton.” He answered.

“You’re not on your phone whilst driving are you? You know how dangerous that is Kurt!” He could hear the worry rising in Blaine’s voice.

“No, it’s fine,  I– I got Siri to answer it.”

“Oh, okay then. All I wanted to say was, make sure you stop by my room this morning before class, I need to tell you something.”

Kurt gulped. What could Blaine possible want to say that he couldn’t over the phone?

“Hey Kurt, I think Blaine was looking for you.” Stated one of Blaine’s friends, Wes, as Kurt walked through the seemingly endless corridors of the dorm rooms.

“Oh, thanks.” He replied.

It took him a few minutes to locate Blaine’s door, but as soon as he had, he started feeling a bit queasy. Why was he so nervous? What exactly was Blaine going to tell him that could be so bad?

“Calm yourself,” he muttered, before knocking quickly on the door.

“Hey Kurt! Come in. Make yourself at home.” Blaine gabbled, gesturing towards his side of the room.

It was funny, the difference between his and his roommates. His side was full of colour, vogues stacked on top of each other, playbills hanging on the walls, little pictures of Blaine’s family. When Kurt looked closer he noticed a picture of himself and Blaine, cute.

The other side of the room was pretty bare. A simple white bedspread, some schoolbooks on the shelves, and a hoodie on his desk chair.

“So.. what did you want to tell me?” Kurt enquired, curiosity filling his eyes.

Blaine opened his mouth to speak when he and Kurt heard a key turning in the lock, giggling, and then footsteps running away. He and Blaine sped over to the door and tried to open it, but it was locked from the outside.

“Fucking Wes,” Blaine cursed, scratching the back of his neck. “Wes! Wes! Come back!”

He tried once more to pry it open, but it was no use.

“Well, it looks like we’re going to be in here until they let us out, so please, make yourself at home.”

Kurt smiled gratefully, and retrieved his homework out of his satchel.

“Might as well get this done while I’ve got time.” He explained.

It didn’t take the boys very long to finish their homework, so Blaine had started strumming on his guitar, as Kurt hummed along.

“I didn’t know you could play,” he stated, plopping himself down on Blaine’s bed. He had misjudged where he was going to sit, and was now very squished up next to him. Blaine pulled an arm around him, and his heart felt like it was going to burst.

“I can hardly, only a few chords.”

“Well, it’s more than I can play.” Kurt replied.

Blaine propped his guitar up beside his bed and, in one sudden movement, tugged Kurt down with him so that they were both laying on his bed staring up at the ceiling.  After staying like that for a few minutes, Kurt turned onto his side. He was so tired, all he wanted to do was snuggle up into Blaine, and place his face in that cute little crook in his neck, where he probably smelt really nice and…

“Kurt?” came a whisper from beside him.

“Whhat..” he murmured into Blaine’s shoulder.

“Sorry, I thought you were sleeping.” He explained. “Want to do something enjoyable?”

Kurt giggled sleepily.

“That sounds weird.”

He could almost hear Blaine rolling his eyes.

“Get your mind out of the gutter Hummel.” He chuckled. “No, I meant wanna do something entertaining.”

Kurt paused for a moment. “Like what?” He queried, prising his eyes open.

Blaine gestured towards the window.

“We could always sneak out and have some fun.” He paused while Kurt snickered, “Ok, I heard it that time.”

Kurt got up and peered out of the window.

“Sorry to burst your bubble, Indiana Jones, but I doubt that either of us will be able to shimmy up that pipe to get back in here.”

Blaine sighed, “You’re probably right.”

“What time is it?” Kurt asked, yawning. Blaine checked his watch and announced,

“It’s 3:30.”

Kurt groaned.

“That explains why I’m so hungry. I haven’t had any breakfast, or lunch. I’m starving.”

“Aww, is someone a hungry baby?” Blaine teased. Kurt nodded, and as if on cue, his stomach rumbled.

“Well, luckily for you, I always keep a stash of granola bars and peanut butter underneath my bed” He stated. Blaine then reached between Kurt’s dangling legs and pulled out a small basket filled with energy bars and a couple of jars of peanut butter.

“Here you go.” He said, handing Kurt a couple of bars and a jar.

“Romantic..” Kurt muttered, under his breath.

Crap. Did he say that out loud?

“Uhh.. nothing.” He gabbled, as a blush spread across his face.

“Wes! Let us out of here!” Blaine shouted, banging against his door.

A voice (Kurt guessed it was Wes,) replied,

“Not until you tell him!”

Blaine groaned, sliding down the doorframe.

“Tell me what?” Kurt asked. Blaine’s face flushed a shade of red.

“Well, God, how do I put this?” he started. “Wes thinks that I-“

His confession was cut off by the lights suddenly shutting off.

“Great.” He murmured. This was either a power cut, or a trick by his friends. He didn’t know which one was worse.

Blaine checked his phone.

“Its 8:30 at the moment, and it says that the sun is gonna set in about 10 minutes. Wanna climb up to the roof and watch? We can bring blankets and stuff, if you get too cold.”

Kurt nodded. “That sounds nice.”

Once they had reached the top they started to set out their blankets and cushions. Blaine noticed that Kurt was struggling to sit down, so he offered his hand.

“Thanks.” He said, settling down next to Blaine. Once he had made himself comfortable he realised that he was still holding Blaine’s hand.

“Oh, sorry.” He said, tugging it away, but Blaine kept hold of it.

“No, its nice.” He replied, with a blush spreading across his face. Kurt shot him a smile and snuggled under the blanket. He could feel Blaine’s hand rubbing circles into his back, and leaned his head over so that it rested on his shoulder.

“It’s so beautiful.” Kurt admitted. He could hardly restrain himself from saying “just like you.”

Before they knew it the sun had set, and although it was early, Kurt so exhausted that he dozed off.

Kurt was woken by sunlight streaming in through the window. He was cuddling up against an unusually warm pillow, that smelt amazing. It was soft and seemed to rise and fall and..

It was Blaine. The pillow was fucking Blaine.

Kurt tried to sit up, but he was dragged back down by Blaine’s arm.

“Blaine.” He whispered

“Mgffh” Blaine replied.

“Blaine!” Kurt murmured, with a bit of an edge to his voice.

“5 more minutes.” Groaned Blaine.

Kurt snuggled back down under the blanket in Blaine’s bed. He assumed that Blaine had carried him down after he fell asleep last night. How chivalrous.

Kurt wrapped his arms around Blaine, one on his waist and the other on his neck, and pulled him closer. So close that he could feel Blaine’s breath on his neck.

“You smell nice.” Blaine slurred. Kurt blushed.

“Thank you,”

“I love you..” he mumbled.

Kurt almost choked.

“What?” he gasped, rolling out of Blaine’s grasp.

Blaine sat up. “You asked me what Wes wanted me to tell you. That was it.”

Kurt felt like laughing out loud. When Blaine saw his expression, he looked hurt.

“What’s so funny?” he asked.

“That I’ve been waiting to do this for ages.”

Kurt moves his head closer to Blaine. He sits frozen, from both fear and excitement. Kurt leans in, so his foreheads rests against Blaine’s. They close their eyes. Both their breaths are shaking. “Thank you,” Kurt says in barely more than a whisper

“For what?” He replies, his voice low and husky.

“For being you.” His voice wavers, exhilarated from the tension between them.

Kurt gently leans in and kisses Blaine’s warms lips. They pull apart and take shaky, shallow breaths. Unable to contain themselves anymore, Blaine holds Kurt’s head in his hands and pulls him into a passionate kiss. Blaine’s hands work their way around Kurt’s body, feeling each crevasse, each line along his perfect physique.

He lies on his back as Blaine matches his body’s form. Blaine’s hands venture over Kurt’s curved body, exploring. They pull apart and open their eyes. They stare at each other, deep into each other’s eyes. Blaine’s full of wonder and love, Kurt’s full of curiosity and passion. No words are spoken but a story worthy of them is communicated.

As if on cue, a key is turned in the lock, and the door swings open.

“Seriously, Wes? You really know how to ruin a moment.” Blaine mutters, rolling off of Kurt’s stomach.

“Well, if I’m correct, that moment wouldn’t have been created if it wasn’t for me, so you should really be thanking me!”

Instead of a thank you, Wes received a shoe in the face, and quickly left, giving Kurt and Blaine some privacy.

“I love you Kurt.”

“I love you too.”

On this day 6 years ago, a bunch of goofy college students performed this weird and funny parody musical for the very first time. Who knew that these crazy crazy kids would become an internet sensation, loved by many all over the world?

Team Starkid has done so much! 2 concert tours, 2 sketch shows, 9 musicals and tons of conventions. They’ve given us a way to enjoy musical theatre from our homes, sometimes for free (who does that?? crazy kids, how we love you), they brought us together, they are the reason I, personally, have met most of my friends.

Words cannot describe how proud I am of everything they have achieved in 6 years and I can’t wait to see where this road will take us next. Lead the way, Starkid! We will always support you and have your back.

And I’m thinking ‘bout how people fall in love in mysterious ways
Maybe just the touch of a hand
Well, me - I fall in love with you every single day
And I just wanna tell you I am

Blaine and I were pretty famous around the neighbourhood for our duelling Simon Le Bon impressions ~ Cooper Anderson

I have been sobbing over Klaine videos for an hour… I have absolutely no clue what prompted this but I’m glad. I hadn’t watched their first kiss in at least five years, can you believe that? That’s when the tears started. I forgot how soft and sweet Darren made Blaine talk, I love it so much.

A post just to say how PROUD I am of Darren Criss!!

Really… Thank you so much for everything you do for me every day! From the bottom of my heart!!

I fell in love with this man years ago and today I love him even more!

His voice, his enthusiasm for the things he does… I’m really immensely proud to be his fan.

This is a long one, but I started to record him when he was a few people ahead of me. Just love how personal he is with everyone out there. So happy I was able to string a few sentences together! And that “swag” was a few pins on my jacket - a Hedwig one and another from Listen Up Tour. I’m just so shocked and how amazing this was. Still freaking out. Best birthday ever for sure! (And shout out to my birthday twin in this video, minus four years! Hope you get to do some drinking for your 21st tomorrow.)

TLOS4 CC Breakdown!

HELLOOOOO TUMBLR!!!!! Long time no blog but I swear I have a good reason! I have been working on a series of posts about TLOS4 with ajw720, and chrisanddarrenstuff and I FINALLY have the first post done! This is going to be a long one so bear with me!

I want to talk about Froggy being trapped in a mirror…such a sad way to end Froggys story for now but if we look between the lines like Chris says to do…there is a little light at the end of the tunnel! Hold on tight here we go!

“Magic mirrors are irreversible my darling…I’ll most likely be in here……..forever.”  “I am afraid the witch has won.”

I  as well as my friends here were really upset about Froggy being trapped inside the mirror so I decided to do a little researching and see if there was anything symbolic about the mirrors LOOK WHAT I FOUND!!!

The Mirror is a Symbol of physical and spiritual reflection.

The Symbolism associated with The Mirror has its roots in the very
distant past. Some of the oldest drawings found on temple walls
and papyrus scrolls depict images of Egyptian Neters gazing into
hand-held Mirrors.

In the material world of our Current Incarnation Mirrors are both a
necessity and convenience. We use Mirrors every day to reflect
physical images. We make use of rear-view Mirrors in our vehicles
to alert us of potential dangers and cautions behind us. We station
Mirrors at corners of buildings and hallways to “see” what is around
the corner. And, of course, we spend a fair amount of time every day
standing before our personal Mirrors while we preen ourselves prior
to going out into the world.

However, when we consider the esoteric, or mystic, Symbolism
associated with The Mirror we find that it alludes to a much higher
and sublime purpose…Spiritual Reflection!

Just as a physical Mirror is a reflection of how we currently appear,
and how the world around us currently appears, so too does our
Spiritual Mirror Truthfully reflect the Consequences of our actions
along with the Karmic rewards, or punishments, which the
consequences of our actions have brought upon us.

Our Spiritual Mirror reflects back to us our external surroundings. In
other words, our Spiritual Mirror shows us the people, places and
Events which are currently a part of the life we have created for
ourselves. By gazing at our external surroundings we are looking
directly into our Spiritual Mirror.

The Egyptian Neters, the Divine Principles of Nature referred to
earlier, gaze into their hand-held Mirrors in order to reflect upon
how they truly appear within the realm in which they are currently
expressing themselves. They are also gazing into their Mirrors in
order to “see” what consequences have been created as a result of
the Events which they have set in motion.
In other words, they are
continually reflecting upon the results of their Thoughts and Actions
in an eternal process of self-evaluation.

Just as the Egyptian Neters gaze into their Divine Mirrors in order
to reflect upon themselves and ponder their thoughts and actions,
we too can use our very own personal Spiritual Mirrors to do the
very same.

In order for a Mirror to cast a reflection, it requires Light.
Symbolically, Light represents Illumination, Enlightenment,
Awareness and Wisdom. Therefore, in order for us to Honestly
evaluate ourselves and the world we have created around ourselves
when using our personal Spiritual Mirror, we must view our current
reflection with an Enlightened mind.

Keeping in mind that The Mirror can only reflect what is Truly
before it, whatever we view in our personal Spiritual Mirror is
currently the Truth of not only our Personality And Reputation
(who we are) but also the Truth of the world which we have created
around ourselves.

It is important to remind ourselves, however, that The Mirror
simply reflects that which is currently True. (right now Froggy, as well as Darren is trapped one by a mirror one by a contract. BUT one day hopefully Froggy will be out of the mirror and when he looks into it from the outside he will see himself free, just like Darren will eventually!)
 As Enlightened Beings
we have both the ability and responsibility to change our personal,
mental, and Spiritual reflection whenever we “see” something in our
Mirror that is not Harmonious with who we truly aspire to be. In
this way we are identical to the Egyptian Neters who gaze into their
hand-held Mirrors in an Eternal process of self-evaluation, self-
improvement, self-change and self-Enlightenment.

“This also goes into the mirror of truth, or the spiritual reflection. When Morina sees her true self which is hideous and not hidden behind her potions.  Or the true Mia. On the outside, to many, she appears to be the supportive girlfriend in a long term relationship.  But the boys and Mia know exactly who she is.  Someone who has become so self obsessed and willing to pretty much kill Darren’s spirit if it keeps her in the spotlight.  Keeps the miarrenites still loving her.  Keeps getting her picture taken.  Point being.  I don’t think Chris is saying Mia is physically ugly (that’s for us to decide on our own) but that her soul is dark and black and evil.”- ajw720

If I wanted to REALLY have some fun I could also tie this into the mirror in Harry Potter! The Mirror Of Erised “I show you not what you are but what you desire”.  We all know how much Chris and Darren love Harry Potter (Chris even dedicated TLOS3 to J.K Rowling) so I can see this being at least a little bit of an influence :)

Chris was also asked what Alex and Conner would see in the mirror of Erised before at a Q&A for TLOS3! Someone shouted “Darren Criss!” so in book 4…he sees Darren in the Mirror because he sees Froggy!!!!

http://klaineandcrisscolfer4ever.tumblr.com/post/91929877588/writing-foryourps-okay-so-i-was-sitting-in-the (link to the video of that Q&A)

The Mirror of Erised is a mirror, which, according to Albus Dumbledore, shows the “deepest, most desperate desire of our hearts.” The name “Erised” is “desire” spelled backwards, as if reflected in a mirror. The happiest person in the world would look in the mirror and see a reflection of them, exactly as they were. It shows the one thing you desire with all your heart. When Red looks into the mirror she sees what she wants more than anything…and that is FROGGY!

I do want everyone to keep in mind that these are our OPINIONS and we cannot state that it is a for sure FACT! But this is definitely something to think about :) more posts to come guys!

Meeting this man made my whole life. I love him more than I can ever say or express. He’s the sweetest most humble man you’ll ever meet I still can’t believe it happened. Thank you Darren for being so sweet and wonderful to me you’ve helped me threw so much in my life you’ll never know how much you mean to me.
I’ll post more about this and the show tomorrow I’m to tired to write anything else lol.

Please don’t steal or repost.
