i couldn’t ignore @pixlokita‘s baby shinichi posts, i had to weigh in (so this follows from the end of that thread, once heiji is done laughing at kudo being extra extra tiny because haibara botched an antidote)

i like to think shinichi can’t talk (even though as per usual his mind is unaffected, he’s just got to grab hair and pull ears to direct people’s attention to crime scene clues now), and despite keeping up a scathing internal monologue he has to suffer with sherlock-holmes-ignorant heiji choosing him a new alias based on his favourite mystery writers instead

Requested by anon:  Any Pairing: Reader x ?. I’ve got an idea where (Y/N) is hiding something and acting strange but when her boyfriend questions her about it, she avoids answering. This continues until he accuses her of cheating and during their argument she blurts out she’s pregnant (or something).

Sherlock was staring at the window, violin in hand, immerse in his own thoughts. He was no longer playing, and the movement in him was minimal. Anyone with poor view would’ve thought he was some kind of statue.

“Sherlock.” (Y/N) spoke as she entered the flat. Sherlock looked at her intensely, noticing the details one by one.

“Grocery shopping, rainy, tired, hormonal, new haircut, less makeup, back pain, swollen feet, new manicure, cheerful, keeping a secret.” Sherlock’s mind spoke.

“Thank you, mister for helping your girlfriend to carry the bags all the way up.” (Y/N) spoke exaggerating her tone. Sherlock chuckled slightly and left the violin before walking over to her and hugged her by the back.

“Sorry.” He whispered in her ear and left a kiss on her temple.

“I can’t ever stay mad at you, can I?” She inquired playfully. Sherlock chuckled once more and breathed in her scent like she was used to, except this time he smelled something out of place.

Anaesthetics, but she didn’t have an appointment at the dentist. Bit of male cologne. Which man does she know that can smell like so? John, but he was with Mary all day long, perhaps that doctor friend of her.” Sherlock thought.

“How’s Pete?” Sherlock inquired, pulling away to help her get everything in place.

“He’s good, planning a holiday trip with his kids, why?” (Y/N) replied listlessly. She was used to Sherlock pulling tricks like so, and although it still impressed her she liked to act oblivious just to put him off.

“Is he married?” Sherlock continued, ignoring her question.

“Yes, twenty years together.” (Y/N) answered.

“It would be a shame if he cheated her after so long.” Sherlock commented.

“Thankfully, Pete is a good man.” (Y/N) said.

Sherlock nodded and continued to observe her from time to time, when she wasn’t aware of it.

She bought loads of snacks this time. Extra comfort food and too much fruit. Oven pizza, doughnuts, cake.” Sherlock listed on his mind, “Strange walk, maybe something is keeping her from moving properly but… Please don’t think of that, focus, what else do you see? Baggy clothing, perhaps from the plus-size shop. It’s too big for her, why would she buy such thing?”

“Sherlock.” She called, “You are staring.”

“My apologies.” He said, “You look lovely today, that shirt looks good on you.”

“Thank you, dear.” She smiled and walked closer to him to leave a kiss on his plump lips.

She was wearing lipstick this morning, but there isn’t any now. Just a sly glimpse of what there used to be. Her breath… She was chewing mint gum on her way here, why would she want to hide her breath? Maybe because Pete smokes often. I have shared a cigar with him before.”

“Stop trying to deduce my day, please.” She begged softly as she pulled away.

“I’m not…” She lifted an eyebrow knowingly, “Apologies.”

“What’s wrong?” She asked softly.

“I want you to be very honest with me, please.” He begged, she nodded, “Why did you go to Pete’s office this morning?”

“How do you know I went to his office this morning?” Sherlock sighed heavily.

“Do you really need me to explain?” She nodded, “You smell like hospital and his cologne is impregnated in your clothes, but it’s not a smell strong enough to have been recent which means you went this morning, before going to buy groceries. What I don’t know is why?”

“Think, detective.” She dared, “Why would a woman go visit a gynaecologist?”

“Check-up, but your last appointment was three months ago and a healthy woman like you should go every six months.” Sherlock replied quickly.

“Why would a woman like me break a pattern like that?” (Y/N) continued.

“I really don’t want to think of it.” Sherlock confessed, looking down at the floor.

“What do you mean?”

“You know how many women fall for their doctors?” Sherlock inquired raspily without looking up. (Y/N) took her time to process his words, and once she did she let out a loud laugh.

“You really don’t trust me, do you?” She inquired half angry, half mockingly. “I’m not cheating on you, Sherlock.”

“Then why would you break the pattern?” Sherlock asked, he was exasperated.

“Maybe because something in my life broke my own pattern.” (Y/N) replied.

“Like what?” Sherlock begged, but before she could reply her phone rang.

“Deduce it, Mr. Holmes.” She ordered, and took the call, walking outside.

Think. What patterns does she have? Eating patterns… No, he’s a gynaecologist. Which feminine patterns does she have? No infections, that’s for sure. No trouble with her hormones, at least not important ones. When was the last time she ovulated?” Sherlock rushed to their room, digging on her drawers to find the little note pad where she wrote down her dates. “Nothing for two and a half months.”

Sherlock ran back to the kitchen at the same time (Y/N) returned from her phone call.

“Is it true?” He asked.

“True that I’m cheating or…?” Sherlock shook his head, walking closer to grab her by the shoulders.

“There are only a few reasons why a woman’s menstrual cycle would suddenly stop, and you haven’t taken any pill to bring it back and… There’s only one option left.” He stuttered and (Y/N) noticed his trembling body. She was holding her because he needed support or else he’d fall to the floor.

“Just ask, solve the mystery.” (Y/N) encouraged.

“You’re pregnant.” He whispered.

“I wanted to let you know through some kind of game… You know, like the ones we do to look for clues all over the flat…” She confessed shyly.

“I did clued for looks.” Sherlock stuttered and (Y/N) giggled softly.

“Are you okay with… this? Because I’m keeping the baby.” She asked.

“Of course I am.” Sherlock furrowed his eyebrows, “And of course you’re keeping it… We are keeping it.” Before she could say anything else Sherlock kissed her hesitantly. He was scared but he was also excited for the upcoming gift.

General Danvers ‘The Heat’ au, from a discussion with @alittlelesspain

Astra as Shannon, the detective, and Alex as Sarah, the FBI Special Agent. Alura as Astra’s despairing Captain. Hank as Alex’s superior officer.

So, Alex and Astra are forced to work together in an attempt to take down the local drug cartel. The plot is pretty much the same, except its gay.

But basically, think of specific scenes.

Astra, the leather jacket wearing, Rosa Diaz aesthetic detective, meeting Alex, with her proper suits and dead straight short hair, and thinking, I am not working with this incredibly attractive incredibly irritating looking woman. Going on the ‘where are the captain’s balls’ rant when Alura explains that they have to work together. Alura sitting there with her head in her hand while Astra prowls around the office looking for her balls, and when its finally over, she stands up, puts her hands on her sister’s shoulders, and says, ‘are you done now? Is it over? Do you feel better?’

Astra grumbles and lets her sister hug her and agrees to work with Alex, but threatens that she might end up destroying those stupid suits.

Alex, in turn, seeing this tall, athletic, beautiful detective with a scowl like thunder, seeing her methods and her attitude, and turning to Hank to say, ‘I can’t work with her’. Hank asks if its because she’s unprofessional or because Alex finds her attractive. Alex turns bright red. ‘Me? Why would you say that?! Maybe you’re attracted to her, hA!’ ‘I am a married gay man, Agent Danvers’.

On their way to stake out a night club, a car beeps, and Alex sees a small, well dressed woman turn in her seat, her fingers splayed in a V over her mouth, her tongue stuck through, and Astra flips her off as she goes past. ‘Who was that?’ Alex asks, thinking that perhaps it was Astra’s girlfriend. Astra grumbles. ‘Our DA, Lucy Lane. And my sister’s girlfriend’. Astra tells Alex that unless she wants to watch Alura freak out in the middle of the precinct because she’s shy and wants to keep things professional in the work space, she should refrain from mentioning her relationship with Lucy. (‘How dARE yOU detectIVE iN-Ze I AM yOUr suPeRIOr ofFICER!!!’ ‘Sister you’ve been going out for two years’ ‘mE slEEP wiTH a LAWYER??’ Alura learnt a lot from her mentor, Captain Holt)

At the club, Astra fits in easily, and takes it upon herself to ‘fix’ Alex’s look so that she fits in. Alex being flustered and irritated in equal measure when Astra takes a knife to her favourite shirt, rips her pants off, insults her spanks and ruffles her hair so that its no longer straight. Foreshadowing.

You never know what a game of Never Have I Ever can (surprisingly) uncover. As it turns out, someone wasn’t nearly as inexperienced — heart and body considered — as everyone had thought.

Sherlock had always been extremely reluctant to join their Friday evening pub trips. After tonight, however, Lestrade was beginning to think that at least part of the reason had nothing to do with the Consulting Detective being “busy with work” as he so insisted.

Perhaps next time they should try Truth or Dare, thought the Detective Inspector, as he helped John drag a heavily inebriated Sherlock towards the cab they’d hailed.

How absolutely priceless would it be, to have the Posh Boy text something interesting to that secret girlfriend of his.

SCRIPTING MISS FISHER MURDERS

Television scriptwriter, Ysabelle Dean started her career as a story liner for Grundy Productions popular soap ‘Prisoner’ in 1984. She is now writing scripts for the second series of Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries, Melbourne’s own, extremely popular 13-part television series that was first aired in February 2012 on ABC1.

The series is based on Australian author Kerry Greenwood’s novels, the first written in 1989 about the Honourable Miss Phryne Fisher, a daring, glamorous, lady detective that fights injustice with her pearl handled pistol in late 1920s Melbourne. Phryne (pronounced Fry-nee) is a thoroughly modern woman with an acquired taste for the best, but from impeccable working class origins.

Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries starring Essie Davis as Miss Phryne Fisher and Nathan Page who plays detective inspector Jack Robinson, was created and produced by Deb Cox and Fiona Eagger and their production company Every Cloud Productions. The first series was filmed over a six-month period in and around Melbourne from July 2011 with a budget of one million dollars per episode. Since then the ABC drama series has been purchased by 120 territories worldwide including Europe, Canada, USA, Asia and Latin America.

Ysabelle, who has written and edited scripts for many Australian television series, wrote or co-wrote scripts for three episodes of the first Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries, which were‘Murder in the Dark’, ‘Away with the Fairies’, and ‘Murder in Montparnasse’. She also did some over writing and script editing. She is now writing three scripts for the second series, which she said is shooting now and is due to come out later this year.

“I am one of a few scriptwriters for the project,” she said. “I’ve just finished episode 12 and started working on episode 11. When I write an episode, I take one of the stories the producers have developed and work with them through various stages of it to shooting stage. That goes on for three or four months for each script.

“Each scriptwriter does complete episodes but if there are time issues the creative producer Deb Cox, may take over and do a polish on the last draft or running changes. If someone is ill, or a location can’t be used or something goes wrong, then the script is adjusted quickly before going on set.

“We also work with a fantastic bunch of script editors who edit and make adjustments after the scripts are written. We hope after the script writing stages of scene breakdown, first draft, second draft and polish that they don’t have to do a lot of re writing. There are serial strands though that change and evolve as you go and sometimes they have to be adjusted right up to the last minute, and it’s pretty much a team effort.”

She said there’s a lot of respect from the crew for the producers Deb Cox and Fiona Eagger. “Fi and Deb are so great to work with.”

When asked if she knew before they started how successful the series was going to be Ysabelle said she had a pretty good idea. “Kerry Greenwood’s books were already successful and Fi and Deb and their production company Every Cloud Productions have a very strong track record. The work they do is painstakingly crafted and when the ABC take on a project like that they become very involved and operate in the same way, so I knew with that sort of formula it would be a goer, and it has been. With everyone on board, the last detail, the last second of shooting and film editing is so well crafted.

“Initially I didn’t know the series was going to be set in Melbourne, which was exciting. I read the books a few days before going to Byron Bay where we plotted at Every Cloud Production Company. I knew it was set in Melbourne in the books but I still didn’t know for sure if it would be filmed in Melbourne or Sydney.

“What was more exciting was that it was a period piece which gave it a new and interesting flavour. I have worked on several shows set in Melbourne that weren’t able to really make use of the location like this show has. They were shows that were shot in Melbourne because that’s where the studios were. In Prisoner, Cell Block H was in Channel 10.

“Because it’s a period piece, I’ve had to do a lot of research. When I write verbal expressions, I have to stop and think about what was used in 1929 or when someone goes to the fridge, I have to remember they go to the ice chest. There are little things like that all the way through but it makes it really interesting. For Murder in Montparnasse there had to be a French restaurant in Melbourne and French characters so I had to learn a lot of French in a hurry, but Google makes it easier.”

Ysabelle’s first contact with Australia’s film industry was while studying a Bachelor of Arts in Writing and Literature at Victoria College. “In my third year, someone from Grundy’s approached my script writing tutor looking for a trainee to work on Prisoner and I was recommended. I still had the last semester to complete but my tutors allowed me to finish the work at home, which was great and I finished with high distinctions.

“I was a story liner on prisoner because I was a trainee. There were four story liners and we all worked in house to come up with two episodes a week of was called a scene breakdown and the screenwriters wrote from that. They only did one draft for Prisoner and then a script editor would make all the changes.

She said she felt a bit bemused by it all. “At the time there was a bit of a set amongst my fellow university students against television soaps. I was never really interested in them, but when you are asked to write, and given an idea that you don’t know anything about or you have a strong opinion on, you have to try to find a way to become part of it and it has to become part of you so that it’s authentic. That’s what I had to do with prisoner, but once I did that, I was able to get right into it.”

After working on Prisoner, Ysabelle went to Sydney to write storylines and scripts for ‘Son’s and Daughters’. She left Sydney in 87 to come back to Melbourne and started working as a freelance scriptwriter and editor.

Since then she has written or edited scripts for Neighbours, SeaChange, Blue Heelers, Wormwood, Bed of Roses, Home and Away, McLeod’s Daughters, Always Greener, Guinevere Jones, Ship to Shore, Chuck Finn, Return to Eden and The Rogue Stallion, a television movie.

“I have enjoyed script producing, writing and editing children’s shows for Paul Barron of Barron Entertainment in Perth and the series ‘Ship to Shore’ was my favourite. I also wrote scripts for ‘The New Adventures of Skippy’, not the original version – I was too young. You need to make a point of that.

“Of all the adult shows I have scripted, my favourite would have to be Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries although the scripts have been the hardest I’ve written because it is so complex and there’s so much to pack into it, but it’s been very satisfying. Essie Davis is beautiful. She’s just gorgeous on screen and Nathan Page is incredible and they work so well together. I look at it and think this is great, and then I forget how many nights I’ve been up trying to finish the scripts.”
