Potter has done too much for me for me to ever want to shit all over it. I’m never going to say: ‘Don’t ask me questions about that’. I remember reading an interview with Robert Smith from The Cure. Somebody said to him: ‘Why do you still wear all that makeup, don’t you feel a bit past it?’ And he said: ‘There are still 14-year-olds coming to see The Cure for the first time, dressed like that. I’d never want to make them feel silly.’ It’s a similar thing with Potter. People are still discovering those books and films. It would be awful for them to find out the people involved had turned their backs on it. Though sometimes, people do come up and say ‘I loved you in The Woman in Black,’ which is really sweet. That’s them knowing that it matters to me that I’ve done other stuff.

This is my first script from the first Harry Potter film. My mum was cleaning our office the other day and she found it at the bottom of the pile of something. It’s bizarre when you go through it, you know, highlighted all the lines. Then, I don’t know what I did, really. HP Meme ~ Favourite Parental Figures of Harry [¼]: Remus Lupin

Go.’ But the dementor didn’t move, so Lupin muttered something, and a silvery thing shot out of his wand at it, and it turned around and sort of glided away…”

People say to me, “I was so expecting you to be a dick.” It’s incredible when the expectations are so low. In a way it’s great, because pretty much everyone I’ve met in the last 10 years has expected me to be a complete twat. So it’s easy to exceed that. It’s not amazing to me I didn’t grow up to be a twat, because I had great people around me.

I think Harry Potter’s very important. Every opportunity I will get for the rest of my life, I would not have got if it wasn’t for Harry Potter. And it would be height of ingratitude if I was ever anything but proud to be associated with these films.

To the children who loved Harry Potter, I want to say your enthusiasm was the real magic. I so enjoyed being on the journey with you. And to the adults who bought the Harry Potter books and devoured them, I just want to say, those books were for children.
