“Nothing,” Leo says, shrugging easily. “Everything. I dunno.”
“You are incredibly weird, you know that?” Daniela says. She leans into him as she says it, her left arm wrapping around his right. Her chin is resting on his shoulder, and she’s looking up at him in a way that makes him feel like finally, finally, he’s on the same page with someone.
“I-” the words falter on his tongue. “I am so happy that you’re in my life.”
Leo has a feeling she knows that’s not what he was going to say, but she’s also not going to press it. It’s crazy that he knows someone that well. She surprises him a lot, but he can usually read her face like an open book. That still blows him away. The first time they’d ever really interacted, he’d honestly thought she set up an elaborate plan to sleep with him.
Now all she has to do is raise her eyebrow and he’s automatically taking off his shirt.
Not that that’s happening here, at his parents’ wedding anniversary party. Every single one of his siblings is here, most of them with significant others. He’s never had a date to bring to a party before Daniela, and while he already knows he loves her, it hits him in waves sometimes, that he is so lucky to have this woman in his life.
“Leo,” she pokes him, drawing his attention back to her and away from his thoughts.
“Hm?” he says, slowly dragging his eyes away from his brother and Meenakshi slow dancing twenty feet in front of him.
“I love you too.”
