Why do you hate the term “Bollywood”?

First of all, Hollywood is a place. Bollywood is not a place. It’s a term which we’ve been given for some reason… It reduces us to a zumba class or like, a flavor… It’s not like I don’t like the term; I hate the connotation that comes with it. It’s a misunderstanding that we’re just people who break out into random song and dance without any context.

Yesterday, we stopped in Santa Monica on our way to drop off a friend at LAX. From street performers to screaming children & their stressed parents, West Los Angeles is known for its eclectic & creative entertainment. Next to the captivating coasters and cluttered coastline, was a particular performer that struck our attention. “Dancing Dave”, a middle-aged man in a shiny silver outfit, was dancing and singing to any song you suggest. When we walked up, he had attracted a group of high school boys who were helping him out–stealing the show even. They were being entirely themselves, having dance battles, laughing and cheering on Dave as he painfully attempted to sing and dance to overplayed songs. Without the boys, you could’ve counted the amount of people watching on one hand, but there were dozens of people admiring this hilarious group. It made our day, and we laughed so hard watching the boys have so much fun with Dancing Dave, and I bet it made their day too.

I think something that interferes with choosing joy is getting caught in how cool we want to be or already think we are. Of the thousands of people on the pier, very few were straying from the crowd, and I don’t think this is only true of LA. On school campuses, out in public, or even around your family, the pressure to hold back or be glued to your phone is stealing the show. What if we believed that we were already cool just the way we are? and by being our true selves is the coolest way to live? Joy radiates from people when they are being entirely themselves, and it’s contagious, you may even get a crowd of people to join with.

Each of us is created in the image of the one who created all the amazing things around us… how COOL is that? Each hair on your head, each freckle, each strange talent, is created by the same God that created the galaxies, the stars, the oceans, the mountains, the wild animals you see on Planet Earth… but he made us as his most unique creation. I hope we can sit in this truth and come to terms with the fact that you are the coolest person you know, and nobody can take that from you, because it was that way before you were even born.

“Yet you, LORD, are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand.” Isaiah 64:8

Wow, our February week was really great despite the late notice, thank you so much to everyone who participated, followed, and liked and reblogged our Valentine’s Day content. This blog has surpassed 500 followers and that number is growing. So as a treat, I will be hosting Tomco Week 3 in March! Rather than following a set theme, this one will incorporate a variety of prompts so we get varied content from day to day. After that whopper of a finale, I think we need some lighthearted content.

Day 1 - March 12 - Dancing

Let’s be honest, we all enjoy a good dancing scene between our favorite characters. So give our boys the time of their lives as they dance it out, whether it be at a club, or a party, or maybe even prom or a ball or something. Any kind of dance, any kind of song, up to you!

Day 2 - March 13 - Favorite AU

Got a favorite AU? Or do you want to make up your own? Either way, get creative and show us an alternate universe’s version of Marco and Tom getting up to whatever shenanigan you please.

Day 3 - March 14 - Cultural Appreciation

Marco and Tom have their similarities, but I’m sure they also have some major differences when it comes to how their people tend to do things. Let’s explore that, whether it be through the holidays they celebrate, the foods they eat, or even just how they tend to greet a loved one.

Day 4 - March 15 - Cosplay

Oh yeah. Marco and Tom are a couple of dorks. Look me in the eye and tell me they wouldn’t cosplay. Who would they be? Haha, that’s for you to decide.

Day 5 - March 16 - Magic Practice

Star is a magic user. Tom seems to have magic as well. Marco is definitely getting involved in magical shenanigans whether he wants to or not. Why not have some fun and try to learn some things himself?

Day 6 - March 17 - St. Patrick’s Day

It’s St. Patrick’s Day, of course I gotta do a prompt for this one. How do they celebrate it? Partying? Do they get drunk? Or do they just watch other people goof off while staying a safe distance away and gorging themselves on hot wings? Note: If there is any drinking involved, please use the ‘alcohol’ tag for blacklisting purposes.

Day 7- March 18 - Horseback Riding

A favorite hobby of mine (even though I haven’t done it in forever). Tom uses a horsedrawn carriage AND he’s a royal, you can’t tell me the guy doesn’t like horseback riding. Have him take Marco on a trail! Is Tom using a skeleton horse or a fiery demon one? Is he making Marco ride a similar one? How does that go? The possibilities are endless.

I’m posting this a couple weeks in advance and will reblog it in a week or so as a reminder. As usual, the guidelines:

1. Please use the Tomco tag on everything you post for a week. You may of course use main show tags, such as svtfoe and Star Vs, since they are from the show, but just make sure Tomco is also tagged for blacklisting purposes.

2. You may also want to use ‘Tomco Week’ as a tag as well, just to make it easier for me to find your work. I’ll be reblogging everything on the relevant days.

3. You may post entries early, they just won’t be reblogged here until the relevant day comes up. Feel free to shoot me a message but odds are I’ll like it so I can find it later.

4. If you miss the day, don’t worry. I will reblog them as soon as you get it posted. Again, shoot me a message if I miss it. I’ll be tagging things by day for searching purposes.

5. I’m gonna say that NSFW is allowed, but nothing too explicit, please. I’m not going to check ages but if you want to post more mature content, just make sure it’s got the proper tags. I do want this blog to be enjoyed by all shippers, and some may not want to see explicit stuff. Let’s keep it tasteful.

I’ll accept fanart, fanfiction, cosplay, videos, heck, songs, whatever you wanna share.

Have at it, guys! :D Depending on how this goes, I may do another in April. Can’t miss Easter now, can we? But we’ll see~

Mush-y request~ Can I ask your headcanons on MC and RFA + V + Saeran 's first slow dance, during the party? ^^

This one was so sweet!

  • After the bustle of the press conference, you two were swept up into the heat of the party
  • You were constantly crowded by guests, and he was constantly being asked questions
  • You barely got to actually enjoy much of the dancing
  • So, Zen waited until most people had left to have his special moment with you
  • He requested a slow song from the DJ
  • You gently gasp when you hear it
  • “Zen, this is my favorite song!”
  • “I know,” he says with a smile. “That’s why I chose it.”
  • He extends a hand to you and you take it
  • He places on hand at your waist while he holds the other and leads you across the dance floor
  • Those who are still present are so mesmerized by you two, that they let you have the floor to yourselves
  • He presses his cheek to yours and whispers in your ear
  • You shudder, not just because it tickles your ear, but he says such sweet things to you as he continues to swirl you across the floor
  • When the dance is over, you stop moving but you both can’t tear your ears from each other
  • Finally, he just presses a kiss to your forehead and leads you off the floor, still holding tightly to your hand

  • His eye was in bad shape, and nobody in the RFA wanted it to get worse
  • As a result, he was banned from dancing to any upbeat songs to avoid an accident
  • He was a little upset because he wanted to dance with you
  • You noticed, and you also wanted a dance with him, so you requested a slow song so there wasn’t much chaos on the dance floor
  • Before you can even say anything about it, Yoosung grabs your hand and pulls you onto the dance floor
  • He slips his arms around you and his hands rest at the small of your back
  • Your hands slip around his neck, but you’re very careful because of his injury
  • He’s a little off beat as he starts swaying to the music, but it only makes you chuckle
  • You start to see him swerving one direction to the other
  • After a few of these incidents, you know it has nothing to do with his sense of rhythm
  • He has to admit he’s getting a little dizzy at this point because of his eye and all the movement
  • You lead him out into the lobby where fresh air is coming through a balcony
  • You feel bad that it couldn’t be everything he had hoped for
  • But he just holds your hand as you two look over the balcony
  • “It’s okay. This song will still be part of our story.”
  • Even though you can’t dance, you two sway your hands to the music and talk
  • In the middle, Yoosung gathers his courage to steal another tender kiss

  • So, you didn’t actually get to do any dancing during the party
  • You were busy with guests
  • Jaehee was also busy with guests
  • After she proposed that you join as her partner for the cafe, you two barely talked
  • However, Zen proposed there be a small after party for just the RFA members just to cool off and have fun
  • You and Jaehee got dragged into playing a ridiculous board game where you had to follow whatever the card said to get a point
  • Your card happened to be slow dance with the person on your left…which was Jaehee
  • She was hesitant, but you pulled her out into the middle of the room
  • It was honestly like an awkward high school dance
  • She was so stiff and just stepping back and forth
  • Someone in the circle starts playing cheesy slow music on their phone to “help”
  • You finally manage to get Jaehee to loosen up a bit and just have some fun
  • She was doubling over in laughter by the time your turn was up and you both sat down
  • It was all in all very sweet

  • It was in the middle of the party and everything that happened with Sarah and Glam Choi was starting to settle down
  • You two found refuge somewhere in the corner where you could just talk and observe
  • The music started shifting from upbeat to slow
  • You jumped a little when you heard the song, and Jumin noticed
  • “I really like this song,” you explained sheepishly.
  • “Hmm…it’s a good song for dancing,” he says softly before extending his hand towards yours
  • Feeling a bit intimidated, you stop at the edge and admit you can’t really dance
  • He coaxes you out onto the dance floor and says he’ll take care of it
  • He leads you very well, having had dance classes when he was young
  • But mostly it’s because you’re not doing much thinking with him being so close
  • He has a soft smile as he gazes down at you for most of the dance
  • As the song nears the end, he spins you around so your back is towards him and he can whisper in your ear
  • After a few sweet words, he just tells you to follow him
  • He takes you outside of the large hall into a more secluded area
  • You are just about to ask why he brought you here when he gently tucks your hair behind your ear and kisses you abruptly
  • Unlike the first time he kissed you, this one was slow and gentle…just like your first dance

  • Neither of you attended the first party you planned, so this one was pretty special
  • He saw you talking to guest after guest, and then running around doing other things
  • He blocks your way before you could go do something else
  • “Hey, you need a break. Let another member handle this, and we can dance or something.”
  • You point out that there’s no music anyway
  • He drags you out onto the middle of the dance floor and smirks
  • He snaps his fingers and the lights dim and slow music starts to play
  • After you catch your breath, you’re aware of him pulling you closer, resting one hand on your waist and holding your hand with the other
  • You’re vaguely aware of other couples joining you two on the dance floor, but for the most part, you’re just enjoying the moment with him
  • He’s a little nervous of losing the beat, so he’s counting under his breath at times
  • After the song is over, a more upbeat one starts playing
  • You think he’s going to want to stay for that one, but instead he gently leads you by the hand off of the dance floor…to the cake?
  • You don’t mind as you both dig into the last piece there
  • He smears a little icing on your cheek near your mouth
  • Before you can retaliate, he leans over and kisses it off what a sneak

  • It was his first party with the RFA, and for the most part he was sticking to the corners
  • You could tell he was not enjoying himself, as talking to people wasn’t his favorite thing
  • When the music starts, you find the perfect opportunity
  • You go up to him and ask if he would like to dance
  • You gently accept the decline, since you understand
  • Another RFA member asks you to dance a little later, and you accept
  • Saeran is watching you from the distance, and he starts to feel bad that he let you down
  • Feeling a bit jittery, he cuts in and asks if he could dance with you now
  • At first, he’s barely pressing his fingertips against your waist as you start to dance
  • But slowly, he eases into it and gradually pulls you closer
  • As soon as the dance is over though, he’s fleeing to the corner again
  • You go up to him and gently kiss his cheek, thanking him for the dance
  • He’s blushing, but he smiles at you softly

  • When the music starts, V seeks you out
  • He asks for a dance, since he thinks it’s a tradition for the party coordinator and RFA leader to dance
  • You gratefully accept, feeling a bit overwhelmed with everything going on
  • His presence is very soothing, and when he starts to talk to you, you just feel so calm
  • Time passes slowly in a good way as he leads you in the dance
  • You feel the weight of the party and the past few days hitting you
  • You get a little tired and you rest your head against his chest as you continue to dance
  • You can hear his heartbeat quicken, but you don’t say anything
  • You smile and hug him tighter

Check out our other headcanons~ Masterlist

My favorite thing about these dances is that I can match them to any song and somehow they fit. Thanks Blizzard. (best with high volume)

anonymous asked:

Do you know of any websites or books that are good for people who aren't native but just want to learn about the different native American tribes and their history and culture?

I can only recommend what I was shown as a child, which is mostly based around the Iroquois but there are several others thrown in, cause this is a very VERY broad question.

The Education of Little Tree (book) (movie)

Smoke Signals (movie) (It has Slingshot from Suicide Squad and the speaking voice of Pocahontas from Disney’s version)

The Lone Ranger And Tonto Fist Fight in Heaven (book) (This is the book Smoke Signals is based on)

Song of Hiawatha (movie) (“Ma what was that movie you made me watch as a kid?” “Which one” “The one about the Iroquois.” “WHICH ONE” “THE ONE WITH THE JOKE ABOUT THE TURTLE CLAN” “WHICH ONE?!?!?!?”)

The New World (movie) (Basically Pocahontas without the Disney filters.)

Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee (movie)

Powwow Highway (movie)

There is one movie I couldn’t find, however I was able to find clips of it on Youtube and it’s a VHS tape about Hopi Prophecies and this was the only clip I could find online. Please let me know if you can find the whole collection of this very rare piece of film (Youtube).

The Last of the Mohicans (movie

Dances With Wolves (movie) (Ma made me put these two down I didn’t want to as they are pretty standard, but she said the plus to watching Dances is seeing Kevin Costner’s ass).

For movies I would advise being very cautious, same with books. I always look into who made them and who the actors are, sadly because we have had enough frauds in our community passing off lies. Movies like Cheyenne Autumn or anything made in the “Golden Era” of Hollywood, especially the Westerns, I would highly advise you stay away from. Not only did they perpetuate lies but most of the “natives” are just people doing redface.

For articles, I have to suggest Jamie K. Oxendine. He’s a family friend and a hell of an M.C. for powwows. Not only have I read quite a few of his articles, I’ve also been able to use him for my A.P. U.S. History course and other scholarly work. He also runs a foundation based on educating people about natives.

And the best tip I can give you for learning our culture however is to go to Powwows, however I understand that not everyone is in America which is why I included movies and books I grew up with. The best education I ever received on my culture is through powwows and is what a lot of stuff that I say is often unsourced as it is carried on through oral tradition. Here is a link for powwow calendars. Here and here are tips and basic etiquette rules for said powwows.

Connor x musical theatre obsessed reader headcanons

- Connor wasn’t a musical theatre person at all - something about all the unrealistic dancing and bursting into song at any moment. He’d complain that “Nobody is that happy, my god” or that “people don’t sing when they’re upset, they break things”. But that didn’t stop you.

- You could talk for hours about your favourite broadway shows (and you often did) and Connor would listen along because he loved to see how passionate and excited you got about something. He’d not felt excited in years but seeing you bursting with so much happiness made his heart melt, and he could listen to you talk all day. Your happiness is one of the only things that made him happy.

- But when you wouldn’t stop talking about them, Connor would kiss you just to shut you up. “Do you ever stop talking about those fucking musicals?” he’d laugh.

- You’d always put on cast recordings in his car and he’d roll his eyes but he’d be tapping his fingers to My Shot (and if you left your cd in the car then he might even keep it on when your not there)

- He surprised you with tickets to your favorite show for your birthday. He handed the envelope with the tickets over nervously, scratching his neck as he looked at the ground, “I mean … I thought we could go together”. You opened them and squealed, wrapped your arms around him and peppering his face with kisses. And he had never smiled so hard.

- You convince him to listen to the cast recording before you go because you are not having him walk out of the theatre halfway through. He rolls his eyes and  puts his hands up in defeat, but by the time of the show he had secretly listened to it enough times to know the words to a few songs and had actually grown quite fond of it.

- He loved to see you dancing along to cast albums when you make coffee or prepared dinner, and he thought it was adorable when you would sing them in the shower or just burst into song.

- You’d always try to get him to sing along with you. You’d stop singing the male vocals and point at him smiling, but he’d just stare at you or laugh so you’d continue to sing every role. You had nearly given up, that was until one day he whispered out “That works for me” at the right moment in Dead Girl Walking. You dropped the spoon you were using to bake, and turned to look at him. His eyes were wide realising what he had just done. “Oh, fuck, I didn’t -” he started. He was cut off by you jumping into his arms and locking his lips with yours. “If I knew it would have gotten that response, I would have done it sooner” he breathed against you lips. “But I am never doing it again - and don’t tell a fucking soul, I’m serious” he warned, but his protests didn’t carry much weight as you dragged him back to your lips.

[This isn’t great, sorry. I really need to work on writing Connor].
