I consistently forget Wisconsin is a real place even though I live in the state next to it and I’ve visited it many times it still seems like such a cryptic zone only manifested by That 70s Show and dairy farmers
chronological and inconclusive list of my favorite deh moments as someone who has seen the show 5 times in both dc and nyc. other parts can be found here as soon as I make the lists (this is v time consuming)
(it got cut but) in evan’s opening letter to himself he just says things like “your ears, you have great ears, awesome ears, like beautiful seashells on your head— nice head, round head… strong teeth, cool eyebrows”
“he is not high! … are you high?”
the staging parallels between connor and evan and their moms during the opening song (and then throughout the rest of the show)
“that was the beginning of the end, the doctors said, because then she died”
“i’m sort of a tree expert now, not to brag”
“you FELL out of a TREE? what are you, like an acorn?”
seeing connor get angry but seeing the pain and loneliness underneath of it and knowing that exact feeling goodness mike faist’s performance is amazing
“we start with stars in our eyes / we start believing that we belong / but every sun doesn’t rise / and no one tells you where you went wrong”
i guess this is an appropriate time to say i LOVE the sun/sky/forest imagery and will probably make an entirely separate post about that
when the rest of the cast joins in with waving through a window
and then whenever they have their own reprises of the song— it helps show that every single character feels alone, too
evan’s phone calls with his mom
the computer lab scene. seeing connor’s humanity is such an important part of the story. and then seeing him break. just like my heart, breaking.
the way mike faist says “sharpie”
connor signing his name in huge letters over evan’s entire cast
jared and evan’s skype conversations
“it’s right here, ‘dear evan hansen,’ it’s addressed to you”
“literally nothing i tell my parents is true and they have no idea”
“i’ve never seen anyone so sad before” which adds to evan’s motivation to lie !!
“that day…at the…at the apples…apples place”
“he said the apples there were the best” “i thought that place closed years ago” “…exactly that’s why we were so bummed”
evan calling connor “buddy” in for forever (fun fact now i call my friends “buddy” all the time because of this)
i love watching how evan’s narrative of him breaking his arm changes as the plot develops
the violins in this show my gOODNESS
a really sentimental scene and then cut to jared making some sex joke about it omg will roland is wonderful in the role
(it got cut and this isn’t a direct quote but) “dairy farmers of america scholarship…write a short essay about how milk has affected your life” (this is a real scholarship btw i found it when i was applying for colleges two years ago)
“you’re really gonna find yourself in college, I really think so” !!!! such an important line !! it’s so true!!!
“… it says ‘connor’ on your cast…i thought you didn’t know him” “oh i don’t…different connor”
the entirety of sincerely me. also, mike faist’s face during the first dialogue break omg
“i love my parents but each day’s another fight”
“we’re close, but not that way, the only man that I love is my dad”
i’ll only say it once because otherwise i’d say it a million times: ben platt’s performance. wow.
on the same note, every single actor does an amazing job with their role and they have so much depth and their performances are truly top notch !!!
when evan and connor do the same movements while writing the emails
laura dreyfuss’ voice and the way she sings “monster”
larry and cynthia’s parts of requiem and how they all have a different reason for not singing a requiem !!
“that’s just what happens when you’re rich and you don’t have a job you get crazy”
